Dying Light 2 says exciting news is coming soon despite departure of narrative designer Posted: 08 Jan 2021 03:43 PM PST didn’t have much in the way of news to share throughout 2020, but it seems Techland are hoping to change that for 2021. In January 2020, they announced a delay without naming a new release window for their next zombie romp and have been rather quiet since. Although narrative designer Paweł Selinger has now announced his departure from the company, Techland say he’s “left a large piece of himself” with Dying Light 2 and that they’ll have news about the game to share soon. |
Twitch are swapping in a new PogChamp emote every 24 hours Posted: 08 Jan 2021 02:01 PM PST Earlier this week, Twitch made the decision to remove the PogChamp emote from their platform after the person whose face it was based on made inflammatory comments about the violent riots at the US Capitol. Referencing the shocked face emote has become something of a staple both on Twitch and in gaming circles more generally, so they didn’t want to leave the spirit of PogChamp gone for good. For the time being, they’ve decided to “roll with it” and replace the emote with a new face of surprise every 24 hours. |
Monster Train is letting everyone try its upcoming DLC this weekend Posted: 08 Jan 2021 12:45 PM PST The developers Shiny Shoe have revealed their hand on the upcoming DLC for roguelike deckbuilder Monster Train. It’ll be called The Last Divinity and you can try it out in a public beta through this weekend. Along with announcing the name of the DLC, Shiny Shoe have also revealed details about its new clan and features. |
League Of Legends shows off Viego, the first of four new champions coming this year Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:55 AM PST Riot Games have tossed out some details about what League Of Legends players can expect in 2021. The big ticket is four new champions coming throughout the year, kicking off with the Ruined King himself this month. Down the line, three other new champions will join the game as well, though their identities are still a bit of a secret. |
Hey, update your Nvidia drivers for security fixes Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:06 AM PST Nvidia have released their first new set of graphics drivers for 2021 and no, they don’t bring big performance boosts to hot new games or make another old game look worse with weird raytracing. Nope, the 461.09 drivers focus on unglamorous yet important security fixes. Though if you like to see exactly how high your framerate is while in Windows Mail, these drivers have a disappointing twist for you. |
Steam is beefing up Xbox and PS5 controller support Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:18 AM PST If you, like me, prefer playing your PC games with a controller pilfered from the household console box, good news a’coming. Steam is testing out expanded features for PS5 and Xbox controllers including extra customisation and button mapping. I’m still rocking a pretty old Xbox One controller myself, but hey, by the time I do upgrade it sounds like all the new features may just be ready and waiting for me when I plug one in. |
Acer Predator Helios 300 review Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:00 AM PST Acer’s Predator gaming laptops have always impressed in the past. Their high-end Triton 500 laptop remains one of my favourite gaming laptops to date thanks to its sensible specs and quiet fans, and their flagship, swivel-screen Triton 900 is both brilliant and bonkers in equal measure. The Helios 300 on test today sits at the other end of Acer’s Predator line-up. As their entry-level gaming laptop, the Helios 300 isn’t quite as slick as the Triton 500 when it comes to its overall design, but the Core i7, RTX 2060 model I’ve been sent for review still packs a pretty decent punch all the same. |
Let's remember 2020 in this week's Mystery Steam Reviews Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST During this week’s episode of The PC Gaming Weekspot, we said goodbye to the absolute bin of a year that was 2020, as we looked to the future and chatted about all the games we’ll be playing throughout 2021. However, given that 2020 is pretty fresh in our minds, we thought we had a better chance of looking very clever if we focused on games that came to PC last year for this week’s Mystery Steam Reviews. So… welcome back to 2020, everyone! |
Star Wars Battlefront 2 is free on the Epic Games Store next week Posted: 08 Jan 2021 07:24 AM PST Load you blasters and whip out your lightsabers, because Star Wars Battlefront 2 is the Epic Games Store’s big freebie next week. I think I quite liked that one, it had a well fun mode where you got to run around and beat people up as General Grievous. You’ll be able to claim it from Thursday the 14th January. Before we get there though, this week’s free game is the tactical roguelite, Crying Suns. |
Hitman 3's murder mystery parody level is the most fun I've had playing Hitman Posted: 08 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST Ian Hitman is imminently to return in Hitman 3 and, like Bourne off of Bourne, he faces near insurmountable odds in his struggle against a giant secret society that controls the world. Except who cares about that, really, because with all due respect to the writers, the overarching plot of the Hitman series was never the most fun or interesting bit. Hitman is about exploring big complex levels to learn all about them, and then killing someone in a ridiculous and elaborate way, without being noticed. Possibly whilst dressed as a clown. A preview of Hitman 3, comprising the first two levels, indicates that this is still very much the case. Although the second, an excellent level set in Dartmoor, which gave me the most fun I think I’ve ever had playing Hitman, has convinced me that Ian “47” Hitman missed his true calling as the detective protagonist of an Agatha Christie novel and/or ITV daytime series. |
Twitch suspends Donald Trump's channel Posted: 08 Jan 2021 04:44 AM PST Donald Trump’s Twitch account has been suspended, following the violent pro-Trump riots that took place at the US Capitol on Wednesday night. He isn’t fully banned, mind you – Twitch says they’ve only disabled his channel for now, and will “reassess” the account after his presidency ends. I do hope that assessment ends in Twitch deplatforming a man who incited a coup mere weeks before the end of his presidency, but we’ve been let down before. |
Ranch Simulator looks like a gritty Stardew Valley Posted: 08 Jan 2021 03:55 AM PST Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: your grandfather’s farm was once the jewel of the valley, but it’s in ruins and tatters by the time you arrive to take over. So you set about rebuilding the farm, renovating the house, acquiring new tools, and rearing new livestock, by yourself or with pals in multiplayer. Oho, but in this Stardew Valley-esque farm ’em up, it’s all first-person, and it’s got a bit of grit too: you’ll have guns to hunt as well as defend your herds. Come see Ranch Simulator in this new trailer. |
