Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:45 PM PST "Nintendo I think you need to learn what an Apple is". In the upcoming Switch release New Pokémon Snap, it seems there's a fruit that looks just like an apple (and might even taste like one) but isn't actually an apple. Nope - according to a tweet by Nintendo of America's Twitter account, this apple-like fruit pictured above and below is actually known as a "fluffruit" and is located in the Lental region. As noted, it can be used to catch the attention of pocket monsters in the wild, and then you can take some stunning snaps while they eat it. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Will Feature Around 300 Playable Characters Posted: 25 Jan 2021 05:30 PM PST And 28 unique locations to visit. Star Wars fans are in for quite the treat this Spring when LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga arrives on Nintendo Switch. During a recent interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine, the game's Lead hub designer, Dawn McDiarmid, confirmed the number of playable characters you'll be able to take control of in this epic saga. There are "around" 300 playable Minifigures and "about 800 unique characters" all up have been constructed. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Apex Legends' Switch Launch Date Appears To Have Been Revealed (Again) Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:45 PM PST Could it be arriving next week? Afterparty, From The Studio That Made Oxenfree, Gets Physical Switch Release Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:15 PM PST Drink Satan under the table to escape Hell. Do the folks at Limited Run Games ever take a break? Just days after their massively successful release of Scott Pilgrim vs The World: The Game, the publisher has announced a physical release of Afterparty, the narrative game (by Oxenfree creators, Night School) that's all about drinking your way out of Hell. Kinda like Hades, but with more bad decisions. The four-week preorder period for the physical version of Afterparty will begin on Friday, 29th January, at 10am Eastern Time. Alongside the physical box and game card, customers will also receive a folded illustration of the map of Hell. Anyone with a record player may also be interested in the Afterparty OST, by Oxenfree composer @scntfc, printed on hellish blood-red vinyl and available in the same period. Feature: 6 Huge Video Game Franchises Missing From Nintendo Switch Posted: 25 Jan 2021 12:00 PM PST They've all played with power in the past. Unless you've been living on a deserted island for the past four years (hey, lucky you — wish you'd stayed there now, right?), it's hard to miss how Switch has taken Nintendo back to the sort of mainstream success is achieved with the Wii two console generations ago. Wii U might have bombed commercially (although it had a pretty spectacular library of games), but its hybrid successor has put Nintendo back on top, attracting the most talented developers and the biggest names in the industry to put games on the console. However, there remain some famous franchises and luminary studios that haven't come to Switch yet. No, we're not talking about ports from PC developers or mobile gaming giants bringing unlikely ports of their world-conquering MOBAs and clickers; rather, devs and publishers with a storied console history — which includes Nintendo systems — that haven't showed up to the Switch party for some reason. New Sail Forth Trailer Awakens The Wind Waker Fan In Us Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:45 AM PST Belayed after delays. It's been... 83 years... since we last played The Wind Waker. Despite our repeated cries for the Wii U version, which only Wii U owners played, to be ported to the Switch, we have not yet seen the slightest glimmer that this hope will come true. Sob. No, This Nintendo Ad Didn't Raise The Price Of The Switch - It's Just Canadian Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:30 AM PST Sorry, eh. The latest Nintendo Switch ad, featuring Canadian actress Annie Murphy, went up today on the Nintendo YouTube channel. Having published a few adverts lately featuring various celebs and actresses, like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu for Japan, and Brie Larson for the US, it seems like Nintendo reached out to Murphy following the huge success of Schitt's Creek, in which she plays down-on-her-luck socialite, Alexis Rose. In the advert, Murphy plays Ring Fit Adventure, Clubhouse Games, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Just Dance 2021 - and notably doesn't use Nintendo's own voice chat service to play with friends. Random: Pokémon Fan Finishes Challenge To Play Every Game Without Using Pokémon Twice Posted: 25 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST It took two and a half years to complete the series. Pokémon fans love making things harder for themselves. There's the Nuzlocke Challenge, in which you can only catch the first Pokémon you meet in every area, and fainted Pokémon are considered "dead" and must be released. There's the original Twitch Plays Pokémon, which keeps popping up with more variants, like playing Pokémon Red and Blue simultaneously. Reddit user Volman99 probably isn't the first person to play through the entire Pokémon series without repeating a single Pokémon, but he certainly is thorough. His rules include playing all the variants, like Red, Blue, and Yellow; being able to have, but not use "HM slaves" - a fan term for a Pokémon used to learn all the useful game progression moves, but generally not a member of the final team - and allowing himself to count Pokémon with multiple evolutionary branches as two separate entities. Players Are At Least Halfway To Killing 3.5 Million Bowsers In Super Mario Bros. 35 Challenge Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:15 AM PST Every player will receive 350 Platinum Points if they beat the challenge. A couple of weeks back, Nintendo announced the Super Mario Bros. 35 World Count Challenge, celebrating the reveal of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury by asking players to... kill Bowser. Like, a lot. If players across the world have collectively beaten 3.5 million Bowsers by the 25th January, 11pm PT, then every participating player who has beaten at least one Bowser will receive 350 Platinum Points as a reward. The game will cease to exist on March 31st, of course, so what better way to celebrate its last days than by mercilessly dumping Bowser into a vat of lava over and over again? It's what he would have wanted. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Review: Calico - Bursting With Heart, But Crippled By Bugs Posted: 25 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST Glitchy and scratchy. As part of the "wholesome games" trend, Calico promises quite a few of the hallmarks of the genre: cats, cafés, gentle music, soft colours, cooking, and befriending fluffy animals. The gameplay is unchallenging, but it's meant to be that way; your in-game avatar – a magical girl you design yourself with a fairly in-depth character creator – will spend most of her time performing good deeds for the townsfolk that live on the same star-shaped island. The tasks that you'll perform over the course of the game are entirely made up of either fetch quests or more general requests. This usually means travelling from one person to another, often on different sides of the map, in order to complete the objective. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Super Mario 3D World's Platforming Will Be "Snappier" On Switch, Gyro Support Included Posted: 25 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST New improvements will "spice up" the adventure. We're only a few weeks away from the launch of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury on Switch, and while the Bowser's Fury expansion might be the biggest selling point for those who already own the Wii U original, the base game will be receiving some very welcome tweaks, too. On its official website, Nintendo has gone into a little more detail on the platforming present in the main game, specifically highlighting how the new Switch release will enhance the original's already impressive gameplay. "As an enhanced version of Super Mario 3D World, some brand new gameplay improvements have been made to spice up this adventure," the site reads. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Is Officially The Best-Selling Musou Game Ever Posted: 25 Jan 2021 07:00 AM PST 3.5 million units sold so far. Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity had a pretty great launch for the most part. Though sales for Koei Tecmo's hack-and-slash series aren't usually brilliant, its status as a Breath of the Wild prequel undeniably elevated it. Within a week of launching, Age Of Calamity had already sold an impressive 3 million units within a week. Outlined in their latest financial report, Koei Tecmo has now revealed it has shipped 3.5 million units worldwide, as of the end of December. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
UK Charts: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Dethroned After Three Consecutive Weeks On Top Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:30 AM PST But it's still another great week for Switch. UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 23rd January, revealing that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has finally been knocked off the top spot after three weeks leading the pack. The Switch exclusive has lost out to Square Enix's new release, Hitman 3, which incidentally sold best on PS5. Switch's Cloud Version of the game is naturally absent from the listings owing to the fact that it only released digitally. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Posted: 25 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST All aboard with the chart-topping hit. This digital board game's only been out a few months, and yet in that short period of time, Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban! has utterly dominated the Japanese charts and sold over 2 million copies (digital and physical sales combined). It topped the Japanese multi-format charts when it launched at the end of November (beating Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity to number one), and, at the time of writing, is still there. Although now owned by Konami, the Momotaro Dentetsu series was initially created and developed by Hudson Soft (of Bomberman fame) and began life on the Famicom way back in 1988. It's been consistently successful in Japan ever since, popping up on every major format (and several minor ones, too) for over three decades, from the Game Boy to the PlayStation 2 and beyond. It's A Real Shame This "Lemon Yellow" Game Boy Advance Was Never Released Posted: 25 Jan 2021 04:30 AM PST And it was all yellow. Many of us remember the bright yellow Game Boy Color units. It's a good colour choice, but we never saw an official lemon yellow unit for the original Game Boy Advance – however, a new prototype unit has been uncovered with that exact colour scheme. This reveal comes via Developer Jeff on Twitter, who often showcases prototype models for different hardware. His latest post shows us a prototype Game Boy Advance, which sports the lemon yellow design and we have to say, it looks really nice. Jeff also confirmed that this particular model was used as a controller for the "IS CGB/AGB Emulator kit ver.1", which he also tweeted about later on. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

New Letter Details Why Donkey Kong 64's Innovative "Stop 'N' Swop" Feature Was Removed Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:30 AM PST "We must ask that you remove this feature". Stop 'N' Swop was undoubtedly one of the N64's biggest mysteries, and even now, we're still learning new things about it decades later. With six coloured eggs and an ice key scattered across Banjo-Kazooie, it was designed as a means of unlocking special content in the sequel, Banjo-Tooie. It was never used in the end, but Rare had plans for it beyond the Banjo-Kazooie series – back in 2018, Rare software developer Paul Machacek confirmed it was intended for more games, including Conker's Bad Fur Day. Donkey Kong 64 was another one of these games, and now, Paul Machacek has revealed the letter from Nintendo which ultimately put an end to its functionality in that particular title. Releasing this via Rare Gamer, the letter was directly addressed to Chris Stamper, former joint head of Rare. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
The Man Behind The Ninja Gaiden Reboot Thinks Ryu Hayabusa Is Perfect For Smash Bros Ultimate Posted: 25 Jan 2021 03:00 AM PST "I think it's a stage big enough for Ryu Hayabusa to play an active role". We haven't seen Ryu Hayabusa on a Nintendo console for nearly nine years now. Though Ninja Gaiden 3: Razors Edge made its way to Wii U back in 2012, rumours had previously surfaced about a reboot trilogy compilation on Switch. Like many popular characters, Ninja Gaiden's protagonist Ryu Hayabusa has been often requested for Smash, and reboot director Tomonobu Itagaki has weighed in. Having worked on the aforementioned Ninja Gaiden reboot, Ninja Gaiden II and Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword, Tomonobu Itagaki recently spoke with Dexerto about the series. When asked if he believed Ryu could ever come to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, he gave the idea "two thumbs up". Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: Yuji Naka Has Never Heard Of Sonic's "Official" Codename Posted: 25 Jan 2021 02:30 AM PST "Even though I was the one who made it!". Sonic is one of video gaming's most enduring characters, so it's little wonder that there's been plenty of attention given to his origins over the years. It's been commonly accepted that the mascot's codename during the initial development of his Mega Drive debut was "Mr. Needlemouse" but it would seem that doubt is being cast on this particular piece of trivia by none other than Yuji Naka himself, the lead programmer on that game and former head of Sonic Team, the internal Sega studio responsible for many Sonic outings. Hideki Kamiya Was "A Shoulder To Lean On" During Astral Chain's Development, Says Director Posted: 25 Jan 2021 01:00 AM PST "I don't think I've ever felt a sense of distress like that before". Takahisa Taura has worked on plenty of amazing video games, including Madworld, The Wonderful 101 and Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but Astral Chain was his first time working as a director – and he's been speaking to Famitsu about the experience (thanks, Nintendo Everything). It's natural to have nerves on your first big project, but Taura points out that Hideki Kamiya was on hand to offer advise and steady the ship when development waters got a little choppy (Yoko Taro from Square Enix, who worked with Taura on NieR: Automata, was also part of the interview): Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
