Posted: 08 Jan 2021 10:04 AM PST

League of Legends' opening day stream for the 2021 season brought a ton of announcements for the game's future. New Pat Morita Documentary Tells The Bigger Story Of Karate Kid Star

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:31 AM PST

A new documentary has been announced that will explore the life and career of Karate Kid star Pat Morita. Entertainment Weekly has posted the first trailer for More Than Miyagi: The Pat Morita Story, which promises to dig into how and why the Japanese-American actor was able to break through so many barriers in an earlier Hollywood landscape that wasn't always known for inclusion.

Sixteen years after his death at the age of 73, Pat Morita--star of The Karate Kid and honorary star of the Netflix hit Cobra Kai--is largely remembered for his role as the Okinawan karate master who mentors Daniel LaRusso and Julie Pierce in the Karate Kid films. Director Kevin Derek has compiled a film that tells the comedian-actor's life story, complete with archival interviews and new conversation with many of his co-stars, including The Karate Kid's Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, Happy Days' Marion Ross and Henry Winkler, and fellow comics Larry Miller and Tommy Chong.

Cobra Kai recently--and thankfully--bumped up the release of Season 3 to New Year's Day. You can check out our (spoiler-laden!) coverage of the new episodes here.

Pokemon Sword And Shield's Shiny Skwovet Event Is Back This Weekend

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:30 AM PST

Pokemon Sword and Shield's Shiny Skwovet event has returned for a limited time. From January 8-10, you'll have a chance to find the Shiny Pokemon--along with a handful of other monsters--in Max Raid dens and earn some rare berries and other rewards.

Throughout the event, Shiny Skwovet and Shiny Greedent will be appearing in five-star Max Raids, although they'll be quite rare, so you'll need a bit of luck and persistence to find them. On top of that, Amoonguss, Cherubi, and Shiinotic will also be appearing more frequently in Raids, and you'll earn extra berries for capturing or defeating the featured Pokemon.

The Shiny Skwovet event runs until 3:59 PM PT / 6:59 PM ET / 11:59 PM UTC on January 10, so you only have a limited time to participate. This marks the second time this event has been held in Sword and Shield, opening the possibility that other limited-time Shiny Pokemon events could be brought back in the future, although nothing has been confirmed in that regard.

Nintendo took to YouTube to announce that its mobile action-RPG Dragalia Lost will get a brand-new crossover event featuring the characters from the upcoming Persona 5 Strikers.

The event is scheduled to go live later this month for Android and iOS devices, though Nintendo hasn't provided an exact start date for the raid. More information will be posted inside Dragalia Lost and on the game's official website and social media channels. Okada said players should keep their eyes locked on these spaces.

Destiny 2: Where Is Xur This Week? Exotic Items / Location Guide (January 8-12)

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:08 AM PST

Xur is back in the Destiny 2 solar system as we get close to the end of the Season of the Hunt, bearing new Exotic gifts for Guardians. That's handy, since this week saw the return of the Iron Banner, as well as the launch of the Season of the Hunt's High Celebrant mission. Head to The EDZ, to the Winding Cove area, to find Xur this week. For his weapon, Xur is offering Telesto. Hunters can pick up the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps gauntlets; for Titans, there's the Antaeus Wards leg armor; and for Warlocks, Xur has the Getaway Artist gauntlets.

Xur Location

Climb the cliff at the north end of Winding Cove to find Xur standing beside a crashed Fallen dropship.

Head to the Winding Cove transmat zone and spawn in, then jump on your sparrow and head north. Make your way to the northern edge of the area and either climb the rock wall there or find a cave pathway on the left side, near the curving highway road. You'll find Xur above, standing beside a crashed Fallen dropship.

Xur Exotic Items

Xur's weapon for this week is Telesto, a longtime mainstay in a lot of Guardians' arsenals. It's a fusion rifle that fires sticky explosive energy, which means that even if you miss your shot, Telesto can still be deadly. If you're not a fan of his other options, Xur also sells an Exotic engram that will decrypt into an Exotic you don't already own. He also has the new Xenology Quest, which rewards an Exotic Cipher you can use to purchase Exotics from either Xur or the Tower's Monument to Lost Lights. The quest requires you to either complete Strikes or win matches in Gambit and the Crucible.

Witcher Star Henry Cavill Says He's Recovering Well After On-Set Injury

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:05 AM PST

Netflix's fantasy hit The Witcher was one of several shows and movies that resumed shooting in the UK last summer, but production faced a setback last month when star Henry Cavill suffered an on-set leg injury. Now Cavill has updated fans on his recovery.

The actor revealed that his injury, which he sustained while in an elevated safety harness, was healing well. In a post on Instagram he stated, "We are in lockdown here in the UK so I'm using my once a day outdoor exercise to go for my first jog since my hamstring injury. It wasn't fast, and it certainly [wasn't] far, but it has been a major step in my recovery, and my first step to getting back into the groove after a Christmas that may have involved more than a few cups of mulled wine, and an exceptionally fat Turkey." Check Cavill's post out below:

Studio Ghibli's Earwig And The Witch Sets February Release Date

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 09:04 AM PST

Studio Ghibli, the legendary Japanese animation house, recently premiered Earwig and the Witch on December 30, 2020 overseas. Thankfully, stateside release dates have been announced and reported via The Hollywood Reporter: Select theaters will feature subtitled and English-dubbed versions starting February 3, with an HBO Max streaming debut not far behind on February 5. HBO Max is the exclusive US streaming home for the entire Studio Ghibli catalog.

Earwig and the Witch is Ghibli's first film since 2014's When Marnie Was There. The movie is about a young girl growing up in an orphanage in the British countryside. Earwig, the girl, "has no idea that her mother had magical powers. Her life changes dramatically when a strange couple takes her in, and she is forced to live with a selfish witch." The rebellious young girl then gets ushered into a world of spells, potions, "and a mysterious song that may be the key to finding the family she has always wanted."

The story is based on a children's novel of the same name by Diana Wynne Jones, whose 1986 novel Howl's Moving Castle was also the inspiration for Studio Ghibli's animated 2004 adaptation. Earwig and the Witch similarly keeps things in the Ghibli family as it's directed by Goro Miyazaki (From Up on Poppy Hill), who is the son of the esteemed studio co-founder Hayao Miyazaki. This is Studio Ghibli's first 3DCG animated feature.

Jason Isaacs Recalls A Totally Bananas Audition Story For The Nic Cage Movie Con Air

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:13 AM PST

Actor Jason Isaacs is known for portraying evil men, as he did in the Harry Potter series as Lucius Malfoy and as William Tavington in the Mel Gibson movie The Patriot. Before those films, he auditioned for a different bad guy, Cyrus the Virus from 1997's Nicolas Cage movie Con Air, and now the actor has shared a wild story about his audition.

Speaking to Collider, Isaacs recalled that his audition involved performing a scene involving a handgun. Isaacs wanted to use a nearby pencil as a prop. However, a camera operator in the room had a real gun tucked under his belt and lent it to Isaacs for the scene.

"I grabbed a pencil and I said, 'I'll use a pencil as a gun.' The camera assistant, operating the camera, went, 'Hold on. Hold on a second. Here, grab that,' and held out a gun to me. I shat myself, obviously. He went, 'Look, you're cool. The safety's on.' My voice shot up three octaves."

How To Get The Streetsweeper In Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War And Warzone

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:10 AM PST

Though some players have reported the challenge required to unlock it being bugged, the powerful Streetsweeper shotgun is available to unlock via Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The shotgun seems like it's going to decimate enemy players, and the challenge to unlock it is actually pretty easy to unlock.

How to unlock the Streetsweeper

Unlocking the Streetsweeper shotgun requires getting a three-kill streak using Black Ops Cold War shotguns at least 15 times. This means that any shotgun in Black Ops Cold War is eligible for the challenge, along with those same shotguns within Warzone. You can only do this once per match, however, so getting repeated kill-streaks in the same match won't add to your total. Warzone matches are also eligible if you don't play Black Ops Cold War.

You can also get a special version of the weapon called the Surge Protector as part of the Shock Value pack for 1,200 Call of Duty Points. If you go this route, that variant will be available instantly without having to complete the challenge. The pack also includes a legendary charm, legendary emblem, and epic sticker.

Fortnite Players Want Fewer Cosmetic Restrictions

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST

Every Fortnite battle pass has added a number of new skins that come alongside an emote, back bling, glider, and other accessories that are unlocked as players level up. These additions could be used with any skin, but Season 4 introduced special versions of these items that were tied to specific characters. Players worry that these new cosmetic restrictions will continue into future seasons, limiting their ability to customize as they see fit.

This change was introduced with various Marvel characters. Thor's hammer, Mjölnir could only be used by characters that were worthy like Captain America and Thor. Dr. Doom's glider and emote, alongside a number of other items, were also tied to specific heroes.

Mave's glider can't be used with other skins.
Mave's glider can't be used with other skins.

"I get Marvel, but Mave's glider is stupid," said Redditor ExtraTime101. This change was believed to only apply to Marvel characters, but now it's continued into Season 5. Mave, one of the hunters you can unlock, features a glider specifically made for her. It can't be used on other characters.

CS:GO Update Removes Bots From Competitive Games, But Valve Doesn't Say Why

Posted: 08 Jan 2021 07:38 AM PST

The newest update for Valve's incredibly popular free-to-play shooter CS:GO has arrived, and one of the most notable changes pertains to a feature that has been removed.

The patch notes state that, when a player disconnects or is kicked from a classic competitive or wingman mode match, a bot will no longer replace them. Should the entire team vanish, a single bot will be spawned in for the other team and remain idle.

Valve provided no rationale for why it made this decision to remove bots. The appeal of bots was that, should a teammate get disconnected for any reason, the squad would still have a fighting chance instead of being forced to play one team member down.
