Chinese Game Juggernaut Tencent To Acquire "Majority Stake" In Don't Starve Dev Klei Entertainment

Following on from Vicarious Visions merging with Blizzard, it's now been announced Chinese video game giant Tencent - known for titles like League of Legends and Clash of Clans - will acquire a "majority stake" in Klei Entertainment.

If you're not familiar with this Canadian-based developer, it's the studio behind games like Don't Starve and Mark of the Ninja. Klei Entertainment founder, Jaime 'Bigfoot' Cheng, says Klei will retain "full autonomy of creative and operations across all aspects of the studio, including projects, talent and more".

There Are No Plans Right Now For A Cyber Shadow Physical Release

Next week sees the arrival of the new 8-bit ninja platformer Cyber Shadow on the Nintendo Switch eShop.

If you were planning on holding out for a physical copy, it seems you might be waiting a while. In an interview with Comicbook.com recently, developer Aarne Hunziker said he was all for a physical release, but had nothing planned right now.

People have been having a field day when it comes to creating Breath of the Wild 2 leaks, with title guesses ranging from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of Evil to The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of the Past. We've had rumoured release dates that have come and gone, time and time again, and dates for Nintendo Directs that failed to materialise. We've grown tired of leaks, but we'll never grow tired of people trying to make up believable Zelda game titles.

The latest "leak", from 4Chan, promises a February 3rd Direct centered around first-party games, with news on playable Wario in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, a new Donkey Kong game, a new Kirby game, a new WarioWare game, an HD re-release of Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Rayman in Smash. The final "and we have one more thing to show you..." game will be the much-awaited Metroid Prime 4. Apparently.

7-Eleven In Japan Is Running A Super Mario Merch Lottery, With New Mario-Themed Food

Starting on February 5th, the massively popular American-built, Japanese-owned chain store, 7-Eleven, will be running the "Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Campaign", which adds a few new Mario-themed food items to the menu.

The only item detailed so far is the "Mario's Mix Roll", a bun stuffed with a red ketchup croquette, egg salad, and mushroom pasta with tomato sauce.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's Latest Single Featured On Ninjala Advert In Japan

It's part of a ten-year anniversary celebration for the singer.

In Nintendo's latest TV advert for Ninjala, the hugely popular Switch exclusive that just hit six million downloads, singer Kyary Pamyu Pamyu appears alongside Japanese comedy trio Yonsen Toshin to promote the game, as well as her latest single, "Gum Gum Girl".

This isn't the first time the Japanese songstress has worked with Nintendo - she's promoted Animal Crossing: New Horizons by pinching Tom Nook's squishy tummy, she was in adverts for the decorative 3DS Kisakae faceplates, and last year she appeared in a livestream for Ninjala.

Technology is incredibly unfriendly to our frail human bodies.

It's a little embarrassing to say that I permanently messed up my wrists by playing too many video games, but it's true. Well, partly true. I don't imagine having a job that requires this much typing is particularly good for them, either.

My path to chronic tendinitis is like something that my mum would have said after a Saturday eight-hour marathon of Ocarina of Time: if you play too many games, you'll end up with square eyes, bad posture, and no job. Well, I have a job (even if it is about video games), but the other two came true: I wear glasses, and I look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. And now, I also have wrists that go on strike if I play games for too long. Sorry, mum. I should have listened.

Nadir Is A Visually Striking Dark JRPG Now In Development For Switch

Shockwork Games, the developer behind last year's Switch release Alder's Blood, has announced that a new, "dark" JRPG called Nadir is now in the works for Switch.

The game will have players controlling a team of three "powerful, yet extremely blemished characters" as they try to escape a seemingly endless city. The city contains different themes, enemies and challenges, and you'll need to adapt to these differences by building a variety of character builds to maximise your team's efforts.

Warframe Gets An Update As Operation: Orphix Venom Arrives On Switch

Warframe's Operation: Orphix Venom has been and gone for PC players. Going live on December 18th for a whole month, console players have had to wait patiently for this limited-time event. Announced yesterday by developer Digital Extremes, the new update means that Switch players can now join in the action until February 22nd.

Dead By Daylight Is Getting A Colourblind Mode Following Provocative Comments By One Of Its Designers

Dead By Daylight's been a hit amongst players these last few years. We had issues with the Switch port – awarding it 6/10 stars – but this multiplayer horror game still offers plenty of fun with friends. With over 25 million players signing up, Behaviour Interactive has now revealed a colourblind mode is on the way – though we wish it was arriving under better circumstances.

Accessibility campaigners have requested this option for years, and this recent incident is regarding the Version 4.5.0 update. It hasn't gone live yet, but it'll make several changes to the HUD, which fans have criticised for being difficult to read if you're colourblind.

New Pokémon Funko Pops Announced, Including Meowth, Psyduck And A Fresh Pikachu Variant

There's no end to Funko Pops' ever-expanding march. Pokémon joined the lineup back in 2019, bringing us a set of almost exclusively Gen 1 critters. That includes the three Kanto starters, Pikachu, Mewtwo, and the original Eeveelutions. With Funko Fair 2021 now in full swing, we've just learned which Pokémon are arriving next.

This time around, Meowth and Psyduck have made the cut, marking two new Pokémon to join the Funko Pop range. New variants of Pikachu (Attack Stance) and Bulbasaur with a Metallic Silver coating have also been revealed, and all four are due to launch later this year.

With Pokémon's 25th-anniversary celebrations kicking off, we're hardly surprised that more Funko Pops are coming. They join the line-up of recently announced merchandise, which includes a TCG re-release, shirts, watches, and some tasty looking Pikachu treats.
