Bonus Pokemon Go Kanto Tour Event Coming After Non-Paying Players Got Access

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:47 AM PST

Pokemon Go developer Niantic has announced an extra event for those who purchased Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto tickets. Because technical issues allowed some players to access that paid event without a ticket, the studio will hold a bonus event for those who did purchase a ticket.

"Trainers, Thanks for your patience while we looked into the Pokémon GO Tour: Kanto ticket issues. We will be hosting a bonus event for all paid ticket holders at a later date," the studio explained on its official support Twitter account (via Eurogamer).

No other details about the event have been announced just yet, but the Pokemon Go Tour: Kanto event took place on February 20. Tickets for that event ran for $12, making it one of Pokemon Go's priciest activities to date, but fan reception to the event was generally positive.

Snyder Cut Of Justice League Will Feature Huge Cameo, And Green Lantern Is A Safe Bet

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:43 AM PST

Zack Snyder's Justice League will be arriving to HBO Max on March 18, and the movie will feature a big cameo from the DC Universe. Of course, Twitter already has some guesses as to who it could be.

A Vanity Fair piece revealed that Snyder had "reshot the ending [of Justice League] with a hero cameo that will blow hardcore fans' minds." While the cameo has not been revealed, it has gotten people talking on Twitter about who they think will appear in the Snyder Cut.

There are quite a few fans that think Green Lantern will show up at the end, which isn't out of the question, as the DCU's space police should probably be involved if there are major threats from other planets attacking Earth.

The Muppet Show Gets Content Warning On Disney+

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:00 AM PST

Disney+ has added a disclaimer that automatically plays before 18 episodes of the recently added The Muppet Show, warning viewers about "negative depictions" and "mistreatment of people or cultures… these stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now." The message displays before the corresponding episode will play, but does not indicate what specific content it necessarily refers to.

While The Guardian recently reported on the disclaimers being added, it also speculated the addition of these messages was favored instead of cutting the flagged episodes. But as Entertainment Weekly points out, this doesn't seem to be the case: Two episodes from Season 5 (featuring guest stars Brooke Shields and Chris Langham respectively) feature major, noticeable edits, perhaps due to music licensing issues. However, as Disney has not yet commented on the matter the reasons for these changes are unclear.

But you can always count on eagle-eyed fans on Reddit to try to fill in the blanks. On r/Muppets, ItachiIshtar has made educated guesses on why this disclaimer was added to each episode--sparking a conversation about the irony of Disney's use of these warnings to "spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together," but needing to go to Reddit to find explanations and discussions.

Watch Dogs Legion Online Puts A Serious Emphasis On Teamwork

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 09:00 AM PST

Ded_Sec is about to get a little bit bigger when Watch Dogs: Legion finally adds in online multiplayer on March 9. And while it's fun to just get into trouble with your friends in the game's giant open-world rendition of London, hacking everything and creating havoc, the really interesting stuff in the multiplayer mode is going to require you and your teammates to get serious about your revolution against Albion and big tech.

We recently got a chance to spend a few hours trying Watch Dogs: Legion Online, doing everything from dancing on top of cars to taking on high-level endgame content. And Legion runs the gamut, borrowing ideas from similar live games like Destiny 2 or The Division 2 to provide players with a bunch of options for how they want to spend their time. Watch Dogs: Legion's most interesting idea--recruiting any character you come across in the world and using them as a member of your revolutionary hacker group--carries forward in the online mode, and it's even cooler when you can work together with teammates to put together the perfect hacker squad for a mission.

The experience is at once very similar to Watch Dogs: Legion's single-player mode, and very different. The online side of the game offers a lot of variety in stuff you can do, ranging from solo missions and low-key public events to very involved, multi-stage cooperative operations. The best part is the opportunity to combine all the tools you get in Legion, like hacking surveillance cameras to recon an area and calling giant drones that let you ride high above roaming security, with the teamwork you get from other human players. But that combination can also make Legion Online very tough, with the game expecting you to work together in combat and to solve problems. This is likely not an online game you want to take on with random players on your squad.

Harry Potter Hogwarts Legacy Lead Designer Criticized For "Anti-SJW" Videos

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:56 AM PST

The lead designer of Harry Potter game Hogwarts Legacy, Troy Leavitt, has been criticized online for his YouTube videos, which express reactionary political views and "anti-SJW" positions. These videos include defenses of "canceled" cultural figures like Atari founder Nolan Bushnell and ousted Pixar boss John Lasseter, as well as critical takes on the work of influential feminist essayist Anita Sarkeesian.

Bushnell has been accused of fostering a sexist work environment in his time at Atari. Lasseter was accused of serial sexual misconduct to his fellow employees in 2017, which led to his exit from Pixar in 2018.

Though the channel has always been publicly available, a series of tweets by Did You Know Gaming contributor Liam Robertson has brought new attention on Leavitt's channel. Robertson described the videos as "anti-feminist" and "pro-GamerGate," and stated that he's "not trying to 'cancel' [Leavitt]." Robertson cited the John Lasseter video as particularly revealing: In it, Leavitt describes the MeToo movement as a "moral panic" and says that he'll likely be branded a "rape apologist" due to his views on Lasseter.

Anthem Was Released Two Years Ago: A Quick Recap Of Its History And What Could Come Next

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:25 AM PST

Esteemed RPG studio BioWare released its sci-fi game Anthem on this day, February 22, in 2019, meaning the game is now two years old. Billed as an exciting new franchise from the developer of classic Star Wars games and the Mass Effect and Dragon Age franchises, Anthem wasn't a hit like BioWare's other franchises were, either critically or commercially. But the game might not be dead and buried just yet.

Following the game's release in 2019, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said in no uncertain terms: "The launch of Anthem did not meet our expectations." EA was predicting the game to sell between 5-6 million units by the end of March 2019, but it didn't reach that.

While the game might not have met EA's lofty sales expectations right out of the gate, the game achieved the second best first-month sales for any BioWare game in history in the United States, only behind Mass Effect 3.

Marvel vs. Capcom Arcade1Up Cabinet Review — Are You Ready, True Believers?

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:14 AM PST

In the realm of video games, nothing screams '90s more than Capcom's Marvel mash-up fighting games--you were greeted by a "Winners Don't Use Drugs" screen seconds before being inundated with the overwhelming bliss, color, and sound of '90s-era Capcom that drugs only wish they could match up to. It was a great time for fighting games. Arcade1Up's latest cabinet attempts to capture some of that magic, and while seasoned fighting veterans may raise an eyebrow or two at its concessions, the company's Marvel vs. Capcom cabinet serves as a wonderful throwback that's as exciting to play as it is striking to look at.

Gameplay

Arcade1Up's Marvel vs Capcom cabinet features five games from Marvel and Capcom's beloved history. The first four are fighting game classics that called Capcom's CPS-2 arcade hardware home: Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. Each game is as enjoyable as the last thanks to Capcom's trademark style of bombast--I'll never get tired of hearing "Shoryuken" and "Berserker Barrage'' from my Ken and Wolverine team in X-Men vs. Street Fighter.

All of the games are presented well, too, with the 17-inch screen shining bright enough to do the colorful ensembles justice. And while the cabinet's built-in speakers lack some much-needed bass, each game's iconic audio is able to shine through that shortcoming. This Arcade1Up cabinet is by no means the best way to play these games, but it's hard to deny just how attractive the whole experience is, especially when you're standing next to a friend and playing these classic games in a way that represents them well.

Zack Snyder Isn't Getting Paid For Snyder Cut, Reshoots Cost $70 Million

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 08:12 AM PST

Ahead of the release of the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League, Zack Snyder has shared some new insights into his work on the re-cut version of the film. Among other details, he shared that he isn't being paid to create this version of the movie, nor has he ever seen the original theatrical version of Justice League.

This was shared as part of a new Vanity Fair profile, which is bursting with new insights that will likely be revelatory for hardcore and fair-weather fans alike--including the fact that the persistent rumors that Snyder himself asked Joss Whedon for help finishing the film were false. Instead, says Snyder, at the time he tried to make the best of a bad situation and remained optimistic that "maybe he could write cool scenes. I thought that would be fun." And as it turns out, Snyder--at his wife Deborah's (who produced the film) insistence--he has never seen the version Whedon made.

But even before the death of his daughter Autumn, Snyder and the project were facing mounting headaches, ulcers, and conflicting marching orders from Warner Bros. Chief among them, says Snyder, was an expectation to make the film shorter.

Final Fantasy 16 Will Be More Action-Oriented But Not At The Expense Of Its Story

Posted: 22 Feb 2021 07:56 AM PST

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida appeared this week on the Tokyo FM radio show One Morning, where he briefly talked about the development of the upcoming game. Much like Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy VII Remake, the latest chapter in Square Enix's long-running RPG series will be more "action-oriented," but not at the expense of its story.

"Final Fantasy XVI is quite action-oriented. It's a Final Fantasy featuring story and action," Yoshida said during the radio show as translated by Gematsu. "We really want players to enjoy the story, so we're preparing a mode for players who want to focus on story. Since we have quite the substantial support actions, we're of course preparing something easy to operate and smooth to play."

As for the actual storyline, Yoshida hinted at a tale of hardship that adults could relate to, as he felt that certain challenges could only be understood by an older generation that had experienced "the good and bad of reality."
