Random: There's A Project Aiming To Make Super Mario 64 Fully Ray Traced

Let there be next-gen light.

It took some time, but with the release of Super Mario 3D All-Stars we got an official version of Super Mario 64 that was fully modernised for the HD era, to a degree. It retained its original screen ratio and ran at 30fps, but Nintendo did nonetheless sharpen up the visuals and produce what is arguably the definitive official version of the game.

Of course, Super Mario 64 is a game that draws in lots of modders, programmers and enthusiasts. A rather eye-opening unofficial project is from Daríosamo with additional elements provided by Render96; the goal is to make a version of the game that is fully ray traced, and Digital Foundry has been checking it out.

Random: Video Game Companies Seem To Be Loving The Removal Of Twitter Crop

Twitter users this week got quite the surprise when the social media platform announced it would allow "bigger and better" images to be shared within tweets. Basically, photos will now be displayed in all their glory.

Apart from users, video game companies have also joined in on the celebrations by sharing extra tall and wide photos. Earlier today, Nintendo of America tweeted a full-size render of Pokey from the Super Mario games.

Level-5 Announces Layton’s Mystery Journey 'Plus' Version For Switch

Launches in Japan this July.

It seems Level-5 isn't done with Layton's Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires' Conspiracy - Deluxe Edition just yet.

In a new announcement on social media, it's revealed it will be launching a slightly enhanced 'Plus' version - allowing players to swap the game's original voice actors with the TV anime Layton Mystery Detective Agency: Katri's Puzzle Solving Files' voice actors. Beyond this, it's unknown what else it might include.

The Iconic Action-RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance Is Out Today On Nintendo Switch

A classic returns.

The action-RPG Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance is today being released on the Nintendo Switch eShop and multiple other digital platforms for $29.99 / £29.99 / €29.99.

The original version made its debut on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in 2001 and was ported across to the GameCube. This latest iteration of this Dungeons & Dragons classic is not a remaster or remake but a re-release - with widescreen support.
