'Game Tengoku' Physical Release In Europe Teased, Despite American Copies Still Being MIA Posted: 12 May 2021 01:30 AM PDT The Dispatch Games saga rumbles on... If you've been following the drama surrounding publisher Dispatch Games, you'll be aware that the company doesn't have the best reputation right now. It has offered physical releases of cult Japanese Switch titles like Psyvariar Delta and Game Tengoku, but has failed when it comes to actually delivering the games to its customers. Back in May 2020, we reported that Dispatch Games customers were getting jumpy about the lack of updates, and the firm blamed the delays on the Covid-19 pandemic. Then it went silent again and didn't issue another statement until the start of this year. "Expect updates regularly," it read. "We won't be going dark. We will work to earn your trust." EA Play Live Returns Later This Year On July 22nd Posted: 11 May 2021 04:55 PM PDT "Save the date". 2021 sure is going fast, and now that it's May, it means E3 is just around the corner. The main all-digital event is scheduled to take place between 12th-15th of June, but not every publisher and developer is necessarily participating in the main show. One company that will be doing its own thing again is Electronic Arts. This year will see the return of its EA Play Live event. As noted, it'll be taking place in the following month, on 22nd July. Base One Brings Interstellar Colony Building To Switch This Year Posted: 11 May 2021 12:00 PM PDT No giant sarcastic robot, it seems. If you like managing farms, towns, cities, train services and far more besides, the good 'ol Switch has you covered. Later this year interstellar colony building will come into the mix, with Base One launching on Switch and pretty much every other console. It actually arrives today on PC and Mac, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out. You have to manage a broad variety of areas and requirements, using modular add-ons to bring the base together; it'll be story-driven too, so it'll no doubt throw up some intriguing scenarios and challenges. Review: Subnautica + Subnautica Below Zero Double Pack - An Accomplished Double Dive Posted: 11 May 2021 09:00 AM PDT What Lies Beneath. One of the very best survival titles currently available on any platform, Subnautica is a hugely immersive underwater epic that combines survival, crafting, open world exploration and an intriguing narrative to truly spectacular effect. It's one of our all-time favourite games and so, when we heard that both the original and it's highly anticipated sequel, Subnautica: Below Zero, were headed to Switch, we were understandably delighted. However, it was delight tempered with a certain degree of scepticism as to how developer Unknown Worlds could possibly cram these enormous experiences onto Nintendo's dinky little hybrid console in a properly playable manner. Thankfully, it turns out, we needn't have worried. We're not exactly sure what kind of secret underwater alien technology Unknown Worlds has employed in its porting process here, but both Subnautica and its sequel on Switch feel like nothing short of a minor miracle. Beyond the now expected lowering of textures and graphical bells and whistles across the board - and some asset pop-in that we've actually also experienced whilst playing this one on PC and PS4 - this is one of the all-time great survival experiences, and its excellent sequel, looking and running spectacularly well on a handheld gaming device. Posted: 11 May 2021 08:30 AM PDT A perfectly normal query, if you ask us. Listen, we're well aware that big companies like to do odd promotional stunts to gain attention – who could forget Jedward starring in Nintendo commercials? – but the latest campaign by The Pokémon Company's UK arm really has us scratching our heads. It has enlisted the aid of the England Football Team to create the 'Pokémon Trading Card Game Kick Up Challenge,' and the first player to take part is Manchester United star Jesse Lingard (currently on loan to West Ham United). Trigger Witch Shuns Magic For Guns, Aims For Switch This Summer Posted: 11 May 2021 08:00 AM PDT Shotgun spell. Nintendo Switch already has some high quality top-down shooters, but another hoping to get some love when it arrives is Trigger Witch. It'll have an open world, local co-op support and some fun looking twists in order to try and stand apart from the crowd. It's due on Switch and pretty much every other system this Summer, with eastasiasoft picking up publishing rights for the Rainbite-developed shooter. It's coming to the eShop, but there'll also be physical retail limited editions available through Play-Asia, but we'll have to wait on those details. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Japanese Board Game Company Oink Games Wants To Put Their Games On Switch Posted: 11 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT Step aside, Clubhouse Games. If you're a board game aficionado, you might have the work of Oink Games on your radar. Their compact, stylish game boxes are much more fun to pull out at a party than a massive Monopoly box, and much easier to learn, too. And now, they're hoping to bring those board games to Switch, with a Kickstarter goal of just £19,500 ($27,800). Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Poll: Are You Excited About E3 2021? Posted: 11 May 2021 07:00 AM PDT Come for the reveals, stay for the cringe-factor. It perhaps wasn't surprising that E3 2021 was announced as an online-only affair; the logistics involved in staging an expo, not to mention all of the preparation and traveling for global exhibitors, made an in-person event impossible in the current circumstances. For the vast majority of those that have followed the event over the years, however, that doesn't necessarily change much. Instead of watching live streams being hosted from the show floor and LA theatres, we'll be watching pre-prepared or live broadcasts from company HQs and various other sites. For many years in times gone by, E3 was the event for major reveals of hardware and games. Nintendo chose the show to pull the DS and later the 3DS out of suit jacket pockets, in addition to revealing systems including Wii and Wii U. Some of the biggest games would be kept under wraps until the show, leading to iconic moments of a theatre of fans going crazy as a teaser trailer started up. "The Best Version" Of Turn-Based Strategy Adventure Pathway Comes To Switch This Month Posted: 11 May 2021 06:00 AM PDT Pre-orders go live today. Robotality and Chucklefish have revealed that Pathway, a turn-based strategy adventure that first launched on Steam in 2019, is headed to Switch later this month. The really good news? "Nintendo Switch Has Games" - And Now It Has An Expensive Calculator, Too Posted: 11 May 2021 04:30 AM PDT How much?! As you're no doubt aware, the Nintendo Switch eShop gets a new boatload of titles to choose from with every passing week. Naturally, each week's new arrivals vary in genre, budget, and quality (keep an eye on our eShop Selects series for the best of the latter), but this week sees something a little different appearing on the store. That's right, Nintendo Switch is getting a calculator. It's (rather effectively) called Calculator and is literally a calculator – you know, for calculating. How many times will we say calculator in this article? Calculator. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Flowstone Saga Is A JRPG With Tetris-Style Combat, And It's Coming To Switch Posted: 11 May 2021 04:00 AM PDT In the Tangledeep universe. Tangledeep was an interesting roguelike that arrived on Switch back in 2019 after a successful Kickstarter campaign. It was a solid game with some nice 16-bit era visuals, though was pretty hardcore and challenging as well. Now the development team at Impact Gameworks is back with another project, albeit this time it's opted to produce a JRPG-inspired adventure. Flowstone Saga promises a 'grand story', lots of characters to meet and an 'epic, adventurous soundtrack' among other things; it does look rather good and is targeting a 2022 release. Video: Pokémon Launches New 'PokéToon' Animation Starring Pancham Posted: 11 May 2021 03:30 AM PDT Watch it here. Last June, The Pokémon Company launched a new series of animations called 'PokéToon', reminding us of old classics like Warner Bros.' Looney Tunes. The first show starred Scraggy and Mimikyu, and seemed to go down really well with fans. Now, the series has returned with a new, longer animation starring Pancham (thanks, link3710). It boasts a different animation style to the first release and follows Pancham's story as it tries to overcome its troubles to become a hero. The video is featured on Pokémon Kids TV, a YouTube channel that produces all different types of animated videos for younger viewers, and can be viewed in full up above.
