Swery's Quirky 'Debt Repayment RPG', The Good Life, Is Due On Switch This Fall

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 12:00 PM PDT

Now published by PLAYISM.

Hidetaka Suehiro, better known as Swery, has a loyal fanbase that adores his off-the-wall titles - Deadly Premonition and Deadly Premonition 2 are among the best known, of course. While the actual game quality can be hit or miss in his releases, his creative and oddball storytelling certainly brings intrigue to each new project. Next up will be The Good Life, which is certainly one to watch.

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign way back in 2019 it was initially planned for PC, then Switch was announced as a platform for a 2020 release. It then slipped to Spring 2021, and now PLAYISM has taken over publishing duties and it has a new target release window of Fall this year. It's being developed by Swery's team at White Owl, and also Grounding Inc. – a team 'led by Yukio Futatsugi, creator of Panzer Dragoon and Phantom Dust'.

Feature: Our Predictions For Nintendo's E3 2021 Direct

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Switch Pro, BOTW2, and high, high hopes.

It's been a long, weird year, but E3 is back after last year's COVID cancellation. It's still a digital event, as we're not out of the woods yet, but that means we'll be seeing all the big names on the (virtual) stage again. But will Nintendo give us everything we've hoped for, or will we be left a little disappointed?

Here are the predictions from the Nintendo Life editorial team, including Kate Gray (Staff Writer, Crab News fan), Gavin Lane (Editor, needs a haircut), Tom Whitehead (Deputy Editor, part-time Monster Hunter), and Ryan Craddock (News Editor, wants a cat).

Colourful Action-Adventure Awaits In Trifox, Launching On Switch In 2022

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Inspired by classic 3D platformers.

Publisher Big Sugar and developer Glowfish Interactive have announced a brand new action-adventure game, Trifox, which will be launching on Switch and other platforms in 2022.

The game has players taking on the role of the titular Trifox, setting out on an adventure to track down mysterious looters who attacked his home and stole his TV remote. We're guessing that TV remote's pretty important to him, because we'd probably just give in, leave a disgruntled tweet and buy a new one. That wouldn't make for an interesting game though, we suppose.

Mini Review: Astalon: Tears of the Earth - Likeable, High Fantasy Metroidvania Action

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 06:00 AM PDT

The Three Musketeers.

Astalon: Tears of the Earth is yet another retro-inspired action platformer on Switch eShop, with a sprinkling of light RPG elements. It tells the tale of an unspecified planet that falls into chaos after an endless battle between its many kingdoms. After decades of surviving in the wasteland, a band of three heroes journey into the Tower of Serpents in the hope of saving their village. It's a fairly bog-standard plot, but one that ultimately feels quite lean, with little fat to distract from the strong gameplay on offer here.

You play as all three heroes, interchangeable at various campfires set up within the tower: there's Arias, the keen fighter who prefers close quarter combat; Algus, a stoic wizard who can shoot powerful orbs towards enemies; and Kyuli, a sultry rogue with a slow, but accurate long-ranged bow. Each character has their own stats which can be upgraded via the mighty Epimetheus, a fearsome beast who grants our heroes new abilities in exchange for the soul of Algus.

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 03:00 AM PDT

No need to worry about "Game Over".

Sonic games aren't always the easiest to speed through and it seems Sega is taking this on board with the upcoming remaster of Sonic Colors: Ultimate.

In a recent interview with Famitsu (as translated by Tails' channel) Sonic Studio creative officer Takashi Iizuka spoke about how the developers of the remaster wanted the game to be more accessible to beginners, so they made a number of adjustments.

Watch: INDIE Live Expo 2021

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 01:45 AM PDT

Over 300(!) games apparently being shown.

After confirmation last week that it plans to show 'over 300' games across various platforms, it's time to see whether INDIE Live Expo delivers; the broadcast begins at 2am Pacific / 5am Eastern / 10am UK / 11am CEST and will stream in the video above. It's worth being realistic of course, there's zero chance of them all being new games, and of course not everything will come to Switch, but it's nevertheless a fun Indie warm-up ahead of a glut of major shows over the next two weeks.

Which brings us to the absence of a live blog. With this being the final weekend before the madness of Summer Game Fest and E3, and with little indication of how long this Indie Live Expo stream will last, we decided that a standard article with chatting via comments made sense. We'll definitely be watching some of the stream with you, but next weekend will likely involve live blogs and more. Heck, we need weekends too, and this is our last chance to relax for a little while!

Video: EarthBound's "Lost Secrets" Have Been Revealed Thanks To The Recovery Of Localisation Source Files

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 10:30 PM PDT

Never-before-seen content, cut ideas and much more...

New secrets about the SNES game EarthBound have been uncovered thanks to efforts of the Video Game History Foundation.

In 2018, former Nintendo of America employee Marcus Lindblom (and the guy responsible for the English-language script in EarthBound) discovered an old floppy disk which were used during EarthBound's localisation process. Unfortunately, he had deleted the EarthBound files long ago, so he passed the disk onto the Video Game History Foundation.
