Dragon Age 4 - What We Want To See At E3 2021

Posted: 05 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Developer BioWare first teased a new Dragon Age-related project in December 2018. Two years later, BioWare officially confirmed that it is working on a fourth, currently untitled Dragon Age game (which we will henceforth refer to as Dragon Age 4). Since then, we've heard small nuggets of information about the upcoming role-playing game.

With Anthem abandoned and Mass Effect: Legendary Edition now out, it stands to reason that BioWare is now fully focusing on its next projects, namely Dragon Age 4 and a still untitled new Mass Effect game. So there's a chance that we learn more about either game at E3 2021, which is right around the corner.

Below, we go over everything we currently know about Dragon Age 4, as well as what we might see of the game at E3 this year.

All Switch Games Confirmed For E3 2021 (So Far)

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:11 PM PDT

After E3's forced cancellation back in 2020, the video game industry's biggest event of the year is back and merely a week away. On June 12, E3 2021 is kicking off and in addition to hours of exciting showcases, we're bound to get a whole lot of new titles for everyone's favorite portable platform, the Nintendo Switch. While the Nintendo Direct presentation on June 15 is definitely the one to watch for an update on all your favorite first-party games from Nintendo, there are a handful of E3 events that are sure to be filled with Switch titles. The Guerilla Collective showcases, which take place on June 5 and 12, are two of them.

Over the course of the Guerilla Collective showcases, over 80 indie games will be featured--many of which are coming to Nintendo Switch. On June 5, titles such as Kung Fu Kickball, Endling, Beasts of Maravilla Island, and The Lightbringer will be making appearances. On June 12, you'll get a closer look at Archvale, Black Book, Death Trash, Batora: Lost Haven, and more. In addition, the June 12 event will feature a Wholesome Direct, a Nintendo Direct-esque showcase of feel-good games, many of which are indies and may be coming to Nintendo Switch

On June 14, Capcom is hosting their own showcase, and while they've yet to announce just what games they'll be presenting, the studio has a close relationship with Nintendo, making it likely they'll have some Switch titles there. For instance, both Great Ace Attorney Chronicles and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin are coming to Switch in 2021, making it highly probably we'll see a bit more of them during the conference. A leak earlier this year alleged a new Resident Evil game is coming to Switch, though that's still extremely up in the air. It is also possible we could see a new entry in the Mega Man series there, as a Mega Man film is currently in production, making the time ripe for Capcom to release a new game to help support it.

Destiny 2's Story Has Never Been This Good

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 05:00 PM PDT

Saint-14 is one of Destiny's greatest heroes. Unlike the powerful figures who rose in the game's distant history with the power of the Light, granted immortality but not guidance for how to use it, the "Risen" known as Saint-14 never became a tyrannical warlord who sought his own power. Instead, he was always a protector of the rest of humanity, wandering the post-apocalyptic wilds to save humans from the many alien threats on Earth that sought to destroy them. Saint-14 is beloved by children and animals--a big, cuddly, Russian bear of a guy.

He is also a rampaging, bloodthirsty monster, from a certain point of view.

We got that point of view in the latest weekly story quest in Destiny 2's Season of the Splicer. A quick catch-up: the robotic Vex have done some kind of weird computer simulation shenanigans, and that has blanketed the Last City, where most humans and Guardians live, in an "endless night." That night is sapping electrical power, spreading sickness, and straining the City's resources. The Guardian leadership known as the Vanguard has recruited the help of the House of Light--a friendly group of Eliksni aliens, the species otherwise known as the Fallen throughout the game--to help deal with the Vex threat. In exchange, those Eliksni have been allowed refuge in the Last City.

All proceeds will go directly to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

Dwayne Johnson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Join Cast for Action Film Emergency Contact

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:52 PM PDT

Actors Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II are teaming up for Emergency Contact, an action film to be produced through Warner Bros., according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Emergency Contact is an original concept, not based on an existing property, so plot details are light. The film will reportedly be a "high-octane action film set amid the underground music scene of Austin, Texas."

Johnson is currently filming Black Adam for Warner Bros., and the upcoming Disney film Jungle Cruise is completed. Abdul-Mateen II is all over the place recently, having starred in HBO's Watchmen as Cal Abar, and in Aquaman (and the upcoming Aquaman 2) as Black Manta. He also stars as the titular character in the completed Candyman, and will appear in The Matrix 4 and Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse Sequel Casts Issa Rae As Spider-Woman

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:10 PM PDT

Issa Rae will dive into the Spider-Verse for the upcoming Into the Spider-Verse sequel, where she'll voice Jessica Drew--better known as Spider-Woman--according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Rae is best known for her HBO series Insecure and the 2020 film The Lovebirds. She's also the first new addition to the Spider-Verse sequel's cast. Only stars Shameik Moore and Hailee Steinfeld are confirmed so far.

Details on the movie--and Rae's character--are light. The original film had Shameik Moore's Miles Morales discovering his self confidence with help from Peter B. Parker (Jake Johnson) and Spider-Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld) to defeat the Kingpin and stop the multiverse from collapsing, but the end of the film left the multiverse open for future adventures. Writer and producer Phil Lord has previously hinted that Japanese and Australian Spider-Men could join the cast of characters in addition to Rae's Spider-Woman.

All The PC Games Confirmed For E3 2021

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 03:02 PM PDT

E3 2021 and all of the gaming events around it are rapidly approaching, which means that it's time for game announcements and surprises. While there usually is an air of mystery around what games will and will not be at the show, there are some games that we do know will be there. Below, you can find the full list of games coming to PC that are confirmed to be at E3 2021.

The majority of PC games that are appearing at E3 will be featured in the Guerrilla Collective's two showcases, which take place on June 5 and 12 and will show off a variety of indie titles. Games like Anno: Mutationem, Moonglow Bay, and Loot River will all be making an appearance and are confirmed to be coming to PC.

Another showcase that is confirmed to have some PC games is the Xbox and Bethesda showcase on June 13. Details on what games will be present are scarce, but the art used to announce the showcase included images from both Halo Infinite and Starfield. Halo Infinite is confirmed to be coming to PC, although Bethesda currently hasn't announced what platforms Starfield will release on. That said, Bethesda's previous titles have been on PC and Microsoft puts most of its first-party titles on PC at launch, so Starfield will probably be coming to PC. In addition to those two titles, other Xbox Game Studios games, like Avowed, the new Perfect Dark, Fable, and more might make an appearance at the show, but no guarantees.

The Other Real Life Event That Inspired The Conjuring 3

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 02:30 PM PDT

While The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It's "true story" may be extremely loose at best, it does pull elements of another very real phenomena that swept through pop culture in the 1980s. The Satanic Panic, as it came to be known, described a specific type of moral outrage that was stoked by everything from fundamentalist groups to concerned parents well into the early '90s. In fact, it even persists in some ways today, though the form it takes has changed overtime.

The following contains spoilers for The Conjuring: The Devil made Me Do It, so please proceed with caution.

When things really begin to diverge from the source material in The Conjuring 3, we learn that Warrens have identified a curse placed on the Glatzel family, left by a Satan-worshiping witch. Said curse invited the demon into their home that attacked Julian and then wound up possessing Arne, which lead him to commit the murder the story revolves around. Naturally, none of this happened in the real case--there was no heretical totem hidden in the house's crawlspace, no string of related ritual murders, and of course, no villainous witch for Lorraine to fight with psychic powers.

All The Xbox Games Confirmed For E3 2021

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 01:03 PM PDT

E3 2021 is fast approaching, which means that game showcases, both as part of E3 and E3 adjacent, are going to be happening. Microsoft always has a big presence during E3, unlike Sony, which stopped attending in 2019 and will not be attending in 2021, and this year is no different. Xbox and Bethesda will be having a joint showcase on June 13, and while no games were confirmed to be present, the key art for the presentation teased both Halo Infinite and Starfield. There are a number of games coming to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One that are confirmed to be appearing at E3 2021 and you can check out the full list of titles below.

The Xbox and Bethesda showcase isn't the only place where Xbox games can and will show up during E3. On June 5 and 12, the Guerrilla Collective will have two showcases, which will feature over 80 indie games across the two shows. Xbox is one of the sponsors of the event and regularly gets indie titles on the console and on Xbox Game Pass through its ID@Xbox program, so there will probably be some indie titles coming to Xbox during the presentations.

The June 12 Guerrilla Collective showcase will feature the Wholesome Direct, which features cozy and feel-good games. Moonglow Bay, a voxel fishing game, is set to be at the show and has already been confirmed to be coming to both Xbox and Xbox Game Pass later in 2021. Devolver Digital is set to have a showcase on June 12 and will be making an appearance at Summer Game Fest on June 10. Devolver is publishing Shadow Warrior 3, which is set to release in 2021 on Xbox.

MLB The Show 21's First 3rd Inning Boss Is Grady Sizemore

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:21 PM PDT

Former Cleveland Indians outfielder and the sports world's heartthrob Grady Sizemore will be MLB The Show 21's first 3rd Inning boss. Each Inning program gives players a chance to score rewards through packs by playing the game, rewarding them with more ballplayers for their Diamond Dynasty team as well as other goodies across the game's modes.

In order to acquire a boss, you have to hit an XP threshold and win them via a special card pack. The bosses represent the characters at the very peak of their abilities, which for Grady Sizemore was his 2008 season. During this season, he was a member of the 30-30 club, hitting 33 home runs and stealing 38 bases. He subsequently dealt with lingering injuries that caused him to miss a significant amount of playing time. Also, he once shattered a light with a foul ball when I saw him play the Pirates in Pittsburgh.

Prime-era Grady Sizemore will certainly add some pep to the top of your lineup, and he also won a Gold Glove for his fielding work in 2008, so you'll have the gaps locked down.

All The PS4 And PS5 Games Confirmed For E3 2021

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:15 PM PDT

It seems Sony is poised to skip this year's E3, though it may host its own presentation at a later time. Still, several PS4 and PS5 games will make an appearance when the trade show (and its surrounding events) kick off. Below is a list of every game planned for PlayStation consoles slated to show up during E3 2021.

The list of confirmed PS4 and PS5 games showing up at E3 2021 isn't too long (right now), but it spans a variety of genres. There's a hot springs management simulator blending Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away and Ghost Town Games' Overcooked called Onsen Master by developer Waking Oni Games that looks charming. (We will feature several indies, including Onsen Master, during GameSpot's Play for All Showcase happening on June 15 at 3:35 PM PT.) Studio Stormind Games' Batora: Lost Haven, a frenetic Diablo-esque twin-stick action-adventurer, will also make an appearance. Likewise, the recently announced Ghostrunner sequel is supposed to attend.

One I'm excited to see is Severed Steel, Greylock Studio's gravity-defying FPS that looks like Mirror's Edge meets Superhot. Announced in March, Severed Steel features some stylish gameplay of a one-armed protagonist slowing down time and flipping around various destructible environments while shooting dudes up. It looks bonkers in the best way video games can be. Check out the trailer below.

Doctor Strange 2 Inspired By Anthony Bourdain And Indiana Jones

Posted: 04 Jun 2021 12:12 PM PDT

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has revealed some of his inspirations for the upcoming sequel, and they might not be what you'd expect.

He told Vanity Fair that the late chef and traveller Anthony Bourdain and the fictional adventurer Indiana Jones were two of his inspirations for the sequel. Stephen Strange and Bourdain are obviously very different in a lot of ways, but Bourdain had an "intense intellect" not unlike Strange, Waldron said.

"I gravitated toward Anthony Bourdain," Waldron said. "Strange is an elitist as a neurosurgeon and a sorcerer. Anthony Bourdain was a man of the people, but there was that intense intellect. You always felt like he could eviscerate anybody with his words at any time. But yet, Anthony Bourdain never really punched down. That was the first ingredient in the stew for Doctor Strange.
