WizKids Reveals DnD Collectibles Of Efreeti And Wand Of Orcus

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 09:00 AM PDT

WizKids has been taking recognizable items and characters from the world of Dungeons & Dragons and bringing them to life in collectible form. Earlier this year, WizKids debuted the Hand and Eye of Vecna--familiar magical items from D&D. Now, WizKids is making collectibles of Efreeti and the Wand of Orcus.

First is an infamous character familiar to Advanced D&D players, a statue of Efreeti. Modeled after its appearance on the Dungeon's Master guide, the statue stands at 12 inches tall and features a pose ripped from the cover and brought into your home. Check out some image renderings below, and obviously, this may not be what the final product looks like when it arrives this November for $250.

No Caption Provided

"It's a really good 'Goldilocks' size for a statue like this--large enough to be well-detailed and have presence on a display shelf, but not so big that it's hard to find a home for," explained WizKids creative producer Mat Smith. "Matching the style of the artwork and how the anatomy was depicted did offer some interesting challenges."

YouTuber Claims To Have A Permanent Fix For Joy-Con Drift

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:57 AM PDT

A YouTuber named Victorstk says that he's fixed his Joy-Con drift permanently, and now you can too. In a lengthy video, Victorstk (also known as VK) discusses many of the suspected causes for the joystick drift that has impacted the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers on a massive scale, noting that his alleged fix is the only one that seems to work permanently.

While VK's video is well put-together, as usual with these sort of claims, it's best to regard them with a grain of salt, or perhaps a spoonful. Still, VK's fix--which is placing a 1 mm piece of paper or card stock on top of one area of the Joy-Con after taking it apart--is substantially less invasive than sending the Joy-Con to Nintendo, or attempting to replace the stick yourself.

VK's analysis concludes that the Joy-Con drift is caused by the metal casing that holds the stick slowly loosening over time due to use, which makes the metal prongs lose contact with the graphite pads that detect the input.

Cracked Version Of Resident Evil Village Offers Drastically Better Performance On PC, Report Finds

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:49 AM PDT

Following indications that the cracked version of Resident Evil Village on PC was offering players a better experience than paying customers, a report into the issue has proved that the removal of DRM from the game drastically improves overall performance.

Digital Foundry conducted tests on both the retail and cracked versions of Capcom's latest sequel, coming away with the conclusion that the game's anti-piracy features are currently behind the poor performance of the game on PC. Since launch, Resident Evil Village has exhibited issues with frametimes, causing large stutters during normal gameplay sequences such as shooting. The issues are worse in certain scenarios, such as the early encounter with Lady Dimitrescu's daughters, which can plummet the frame rate from the high 100s all the way down to the low 30s.

The Possibility Of Final Fantasy X-3 Being Made Isn't "Zero"

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:26 AM PDT

Square Enix has suggested that it could one day return to the world of Final Fantasy X with a Final Fantasy X-3 sequel. In a new interview with Famitsu as reported by Japanese blog Ryukutya via RPGSite, several key members of Final Fantasy X commented on how the project even has a plot written by Kazushige Nojima, who served as one of the scenario writers on the 2001 game.

"If we are to make X-3, we somehow have a synopsis written by Nojima-san," character designer Tetsuya Nomura explained. "It's sleeping right now, but the plot itself does exist."

As RPGSite also noted, a recent audio play could be used as another potential storyline springboard. Taking place a year after the events of Final Fantasy X-2 and focused on two new characters called Chuami and Kurgum, Final Fantasy X Will reunited several of the original game's voice actors and dealt with the return of Final Fantasy X's main antagonist, Sin.

Don Cheadle "Doesn't Get" Why He Was Nominated For Falcon And Winter Soldier Cameo

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 08:17 AM PDT

Actor Don Cheadle, who over the course of his career has now earned 11 Emmy nominations, took to Twitter to admit he's pretty confused over his most recent nomination. It was recently announced Cheadle's in the running for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series--which means he landed a spot in the category on the strength of a three-minute cameo in the pilot of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

In response, Cheadle tweeted: "I don't really get it either." This isn't the actor's way of being humble or falsely modest--Cheadle only speaks in one of the two quick scenes where he reprises his Marvel Cinematic Universe character James Rhodes. In the other scene, he's merely listening to Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson give a speech about donating Captain America's shield to a museum. Cheadle's was the only acting nomination for the show.

The 73rd annual Emmy awards are set to air live on September 19 at 8 PM ET on CBS and Paramount Plus. Marvel has a strong showing at this year's Emmys, with WandaVision being a particular standout, earning nominations for Best Limited Series, Best Actress in a Limited Series (Elizabeth Olsen), Best Actor in a Limited Series (Paul Bettany), and Best Supporting Actress in a Limited Series (Kathryn Hahn).

Spider-Man: No Way Home Hot Toys Figure Shows Best Look Yet At Spidey's New Costume

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:41 AM PDT

Hot Toys usually unveils new figures based on popular films after they've launched, but this week the Hong Kong-based manufacturer is unveiling its new slate of collectibles a few months early. In addition to a concept art version of Doctor Strange decked out in Iron Man armor and Boba Fett on a throne fit for a Hutt, the company revealed its Spider-Man: No Way Home figure that features Peter Parker in a new black and gold costume.

There's a hint of red to remind you that this is a Spider-Man underneath all that gold, but it's an otherwise massive departure from the costumes that actor Tom Holland has worn since he took up the mantle of the web-slinger in 2016. As a Hot Toys figure, this particular collectible has an astonishing amount of detail that shows off a mixture of science and sorcery, with Spider-Man's costume looking magically enhanced and capable of firing off mystic web-blasts that look very much like one of Doctor Strange's signature spells.

On the suit are layers of circuitry and golden webbing that would make Iron Man proud. There's also a decent number of extras available with the figure, such as spare eyes to create different masked facial expressions, spare webbing to recreate some dynamic scenes, a themed base, and a head sculpt of Holland if you feel like taking his mask off.

Phil Spencer Says Seeing Older Games Succeed On Game Pass Could Help Greenlight Reboots

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:38 AM PDT

Banjo-Kazooie fans may have just been given the avenue they need to make Banjo-Threeie a reality. Xbox head Phil Spencer has revealed that seeing legacy Xbox games succeeding as part of the company's Game Pass service could help justify future reboots.

Speaking on the Kinda Funny Gamescast, when asked if Game Pass data helps justify potential reboots Spencer said "absolutely it does," naming games like Prey and Fable as recent examples.

"Seeing more people playing something like Prey, or Dishonored or going back to Fable and [that] you can talk about those games, for us as we sit back as a creative organisation and watch what people are interested in," Spencer said. "It gives us more data to think about things that we might pick up and take forward with new ideas and new teams that might want to go do that."

Netflix's Fear Street Part 3 1666: Watch The Creepy Trailer For The Final Movie

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 07:19 AM PDT

The full trailer for Fear Street Part 3: 1666 has been released. The third and final part of the three-movie adaptation of RL Stein's young adult horror series hits Netflix this Friday, July 16.

While the previous two movies were set in 1994 and 1978, this final part takes us back to the 17th century. It's set in a rural community gripping by a fear of witchcraft and focuses on a witch hunt that will have repercussions three centuries later. The film will also be intercut the other timelines, as the teenagers in '94 and '78 try to finally end the curse of Shadyside.

The trailer suggests that Part 3 will have a very different, creepier feel to the other movies, and will hopefully deliver a satisfying conclusion to this hugely entertaining series. Check the trailer out below:

Here's What The Bloodborne Gascoigne Fight Would Look Like On PS1

Posted: 14 Jul 2021 06:45 AM PDT

Bloodborne PSX takes the PS4-exclusive action-RPG and turns it into an original PlayStation game, complete with primitive 3D graphics, heavy scanlines, and the slightly fuzzy audio that defined Sony's first console. The fan-made project isn't complete yet, but its development team has released a new video showing off the iconic Father Gascoigne fight. If you thought it was hard in 1080p, you haven't seen anything yet.

Beginning with the same cutscene--albeit as a "demake"--as the PS4 version, the footage clearly isn't just run through some sort of PS1 filter. Instead, we see classic retro-style blood effects and completely redone characters and environments. Though the dialogue sounds like it's still the original voice actors, the effect put over the recording resembles the low-fidelity audio of the original PlayStation.

The basic flow of combat is the same, with blood vials and bullets still visible alongside the health and stamina bars, and the Insight system is even represented on the retro UI. What could make the game even harder than trying to play it on an original PlayStation controller (is it even possible without a DualShock?) is the 4:3 aspect ratio, along with the CRT filter giving it such heavy scanlines that it's harder to make sense of what is happening.
