Sony Ad Shows PS5 Upside-Down

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 09:26 AM PDT

A new Sony advertisement for the PlayStation 5 shows the console placed upside-down. The visual goof can be seen only for a moment, but it does go to show that the unique PS5 body can create some confusion--even among ad makers, apparently.

The moment comes at the end of a heartwarming ad shared on Sony's Twitter account. A little boy asks his dad to tell him a story, and the father obliges by retelling the story of the 2018 God of War (presumably without all the disemboweling). Then the dad sits down to play some God of War on his upside-down PS5.

The telltale giveaway is the disc slot, which is visible on the top half of the console on the right side. When oriented correctly according to Sony's own manual, the disc slot should be on the bottom left. That's also how it would sit with the console base attached in horizontal orientation. This setup would also mean the good dad in this story has been putting discs in upside-down, or else he'd be getting disc read errors.

Marvel's "What If" Releases August 11, New Trailer Shows Starlord T'Challa, Captain Britain, And More

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 09:09 AM PDT

The first trailer for Marvel's What If....? has been released. The animated show hits Disney+ on August 11.

The series dives into various Marvel multiverses and the many possibilities for its characters beyond what has happened in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The trailer opens with a familiar scene of Tony Stark from the first Iron Man movie, but the sudden appearance of Black Panther's Eric Killmonger quickly reveals that this isn't the MCU as we know it.

From there we see familiar characters such as Dr. Strange, Spider-Man, and Thor mixing with Howard the Duck and Captain Britain--who, in this case, is the alias of Captain Peggy Carter. T'Challa is now the leader of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and there's a voiceover from the all-seeing Beyonder, played by Westworld's Jeffrey Wright, who teases a "journey to face the unknown." Check it out below:

Now arriving on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (via the Epic Games Store) on September 7, the most obvious tweak will be the inclusion of several HD updates that add re-vamped lighting and improved graphics, with the game now running at 4K resolution and 60fps.

New The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Trailer Shows Off 60 FPS

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:58 AM PDT

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword is coming to Switch, as announced previously in Nintendo's February Direct. Ahead of the impending release, Nintendo dropped another new trailer.

In contrast to the first trailer released in February's Direct, the trailer below shows more of Ghirahim--the main villain who tries to kidnap Zelda. Also noticeable is Skyward Sword's new framerate of 60 FPS, making the game look smoother and graphically better.

The HD version will differ from the original with quality-of-life improvements including smoother motion control through Joy-Con sticks, with an alternate option of a button-only interface. The original Skyward Sword game was built heavily around the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, and the gameplay suffered from the controllers' lack of stable sensitivity and accuracy.

Monster Hunter Stories 2 Switch Physical Edition Does Not Require A Download

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:54 AM PDT

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin comes out on July 9, and a lot of people are wondering if they have enough space for the game on their Nintendo Switch. Well, we now know that the physical version of the game doesn't require any downloads to start playing.

However, there is a day-one patch that is 0.5 GB in size, which is pretty small as far as the usual day-one patches go. Additionally, Capcom also noted that the digital version of the game is 13.5 GB in size, not including the day-one patch itself.

This is in response to a post on the Nintendo site Nintendo Everything, which noted that the box packaging of Monster Hunter Stories 2 seemed to say that a download of at least 15 GB was required to play. However, it seems that this notice was a misprint. Not only has Capcom confirmed that the game runs fine without the day-one patch, players who have obtained advanced copies of the game report no problems.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Beta Is "Creeping Closer," Will Test Game At Scale

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:54 AM PDT

A multiplayer technical preview for Halo Infinite is coming up relatively soon, and developer 343 Industries really wants people to sign up. Community director Brian Jarrard said one of the goals of the beta is to test Halo Infinite at scale, so it needs a lot of people to sign up to Halo Insider.

"With each week we're creeping closer and closer to the Halo Infinite multiplayer technical preview! A key goal is hardening and validating at large scale--help us out, spread the word, opt-in, verify your email, and be ready!" he said.

Jarrard reminded people that they can update their Halo Insider profile at any time--for example, you might want to if you got a new console or PC with different specs. Jarrard also told fans to ensure they have opted in to receive communications from 343 and that they have verified their email address. This is how invites will go out.

Bong Joon-Ho Shares Details About Parasite HBO Series At Cannes

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:12 AM PDT

South Korean film director Bong Joon-Ho has finally shared some meaty details about the upcoming Parasite HBO series at the Cannes Film Festival, according to IndieWire. Explaining that he never expected Parasite to become such a hit--including several Oscars and a Palme d'Or win--the director has said his goal for the series is for it to rise to those accolades by "be[ing] something of great genius."

"Parasite is a film on wealthy and poor families, and that is a problem everywhere," said Bong. "The subject continues to have resonance in France and elsewhere… Many of [us] would like to be rich, but I think in all of us there is a fear of becoming poor."

All we've really known until this point is just that it exists, is happening, and Bong is collaborating with writer-director Adam McKay (Succession) for it. Even with McKay's involvement, we really had no insight into another fact that Bong shared--that the show will be a black comedy. The pair seized on much of 2020 in isolation to collaborate on the series, though there haven't yet been important announcements to finally seeing it, such as casting or a production start date.

Flying Wild Hog's Space Punks Heads To Early Access On July 14

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 08:00 AM PDT

The recently revealed Space Punks from developer Flying Wild Hog is a new free-to-play action RPG that blends top-down shooting action with co-op gameplay, and it's launching as an early access title on July 15 exclusively on the Epic Games Store. Along with other games from Flying Wild Hog, which includes Shadow Warrior 3 and Trek To Yomi, Space Punks is another title in the developer's tradition of fast-paced action titles that have some clever gimmicks to offer rewarding combat. Described as a "living game" by its developers and publisher Jagex--known for the Runescape series--Space Punks will see new content and evolve over the course of its development.

For the uninitiated, Space Punks is a sci-fi co-op dungeon crawler starring a crew of space-exploring misfits who take on different jobs to gain glory and score some sweet loot. In a similar vein to Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy, this ragtag crew is often at odds with one another, but when things go south when facing off against rogue targets, their unorthodox and weird approach to action make them quite a team. Each of the four playable characters at launch has their skills and arsenal of weapons to upgrade and advance, which opens up different possibilities to use special combo attacks with other players during online missions, such as pairing one hero's alien tentacle attacks with another squadmate's tech-focused gadgets.

Though Space Punks is planned to be a free-to-play game, it will debut in paid early access, which you will have to buy into with the different founders packs at launch. This does put a clear barrier for entry for those looking to check out the game early, but the developers are looking to incentive those who are down to make the jump at the game's debut. During the early access launch on July 14, players will be able to dive into the game's missions with its slate of characters. Eventually, the game will enter open beta during Winter 2021, which will see the beginning of the game's free-to-play model for all players. Later in 2022, Space Punks--and all of its new content released thus far--will launch on consoles. If you don't want to spend money on the game's packs to dive into the game's early access launch, you can also sign up to register for the chance to get a free key on the game's website.

Netflix's Red Notice Starring The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, And Gal Gadot Releases On November 12

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 07:13 AM PDT

One of Netflix's biggest 2021 films, Red Notice starring The Rock, Ryan Reynolds, and Gal Gadot, now has a release date. The action movie will premiere on November 12. "You've been put on notice," Netflix said in its announcement.

The streamer also shared an image from the film, showing off The Rock, Reynolds, and Gadot inside a very fancy-looking building.

In his own tweet, The Rock said Red Notice is Netflix's "biggest movie ever," though he didn't say by what metric. It was previously reported that the film has a budget of $200 million, which is the most ever for a Netflix movie, even eclipsing The Irishman. Reynolds and Gadot are making $20 million each on the movie, while The Rock stands to make much more given he's also a producer, according to Variety.

Jada Pinkett Smith Had Some Bad Ecstasy And Passed Out On Nutty Professor Set

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 07:06 AM PDT

Actor Jada Pinkett Smith talked at length about her past struggles with substance abuse on this week's Red Table Talk--which features her mother and daughter as co-hosts--and had an open discussion about drugs and alcohol, and the dangers of combining the two. The episode was focusing on the rising cases of women facing addiction.

On the set of the 1996 film The Nutty Professor, Pinkett Smith talked about one particularly bad cocktail and blacked out. In the past on the show, she's been very candid about her struggles with drugs and her coping mechanism for depression, but how it only made things exponentially worse.

"I had one incident on Nutty Professor. I passed out," she said. "I went to work high, and it was a bad batch of ecstasy. And I passed out, and I told everybody that I must have had old medication in a vitamin bottle."

God Of War Is Available On PC If You Have A PS Now Subscription

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 06:58 AM PDT

More PlayStation games are coming to PC, including 2018's God of War. You won't find Sony Santa Monica's latest title on the Steam store, though, as it's coming to PC via PS Now.

God of War is one of the many titles heading to PS Now this month, along with Red Dead Redemption 2, Nioh 2, and Judgment. PC users can stream all of these games using the PC app for PS Now.

While the possibility of playing God of War on PC is exciting, don't expect the experience to be much better than what you'd get playing on console. Playing God of War on PC by using PS Now is vastly different from playing a port of the game to PC. Players won't have access to the myriad of graphics options that come with a full PC port and will need a solid, stable internet connection to stream the game, as well as a controller. Thankfully, any wired or wireless controller should do the trick.
