The Simpsons Co-Showrunner Would Love To See Hit & Run Return But Admits It's "Complicated"

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 04:00 PM PDT

A "corporate octopus" stands in the way of a remaster.

The Simpsons might not be quite as popular as it once was, but there's still plenty of demand for the famous American family's retro video games.

One title fans of the long-running cartoon would love to see make a return is The Simpsons Hit & Run - a Grand Theft Auto-like game set in the fictional town of Springfield. It got a release on the Nintendo GameCube back in 2003 and since then there's been growing support for a remaster or remake.

Talking Point: What's Your Switch Game Of 2021 So Far?

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Decisions, decisions...

We're well over halfway through 2021 and we're steadily sliding down the back half of the year, having negotiated the six-month hump. Holiday season is waaaay off in the distance and we've still got several months to go before we get into video game 'silly season', but while recently discussing the upcoming Sonic Colors Ultimate remaster and lamenting that it wasn't arriving until September, it suddenly struck us that that's little more than a month away. Before you know it we'll be knee-deep in Metroids, Marios and OLED screens. Lovely!

So, we thought it was worth getting a read on the room and seeing what games Nintendo Life staff have most enjoyed in the first half (and a bit) of 2021. Below you'll find a selection of the hottest Switch games of the year so far with some words explaining why they left such an impression on us.

Spindle Is A Zelda-Like Where You Play The Role Of Death... And A Pig

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:00 AM PDT

Featuring "grim dungeons and mind-bending puzzles".

It's easy enough to get on board with games that follow the tried and trusted Zelda formula based on that simple fact alone, but what if we told you there was a Zelda-like that lets you play as both Death and a pig. You're sold already, right?

Spindle is an "old-school Zelda-esque" action-adventure that's hoping to secure a launch on Switch; the small team of developers behind the project have started a Kickstarter campaign to help them through the game's creation. They're looking for 55,000€ in total, which will help push the team over the line and get the game published on Steam and, eventually, Switch too.

Random: This Early Pokémon Anime Character Looks Suspiciously Like Hunter x Hunter's Gon

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 06:00 AM PDT

It has to be a coincidence, right?

We don't care what anyone says, Pokémon's anime will never again match the lofty heights of its first ever season. Is that the nostalgia talking? Maybe. But episodes like Pikachu's Goodbye and Bye Bye Butterfree still bring tears to our fully grown adult eyes to this day, so explain that...

Ahem. Anyway, the reason behind that unnecessary rant that you didn't ask for is to set up a quick chat about the first season's final episode, Friends to the End. Nintendo Life reader @PsimplePsych got in touch with us to share an interesting discovery from one of its scenes, where three characters only seen in silhouette appear on-screen.

If you're a Nintendo Switch Online subscriber who hasn't yet taken the opportunity to pick up the NES and SNES-inspired controllers for Switch (which just so happen to be perfect for playing the NES and SNES games available as part of your subsciption), you now have another chance.

Both controllers are once again available on the My Nintendo Store across Europe; as before, the NES controllers are bundled in a two-pack, while the SNES controller comes on its own. Fuka & Desco Get A Flashy Trailer For Disgaea 6: Defiance Of Destiny DLC

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 04:00 AM PDT

Grand slam?

About a month ago Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny landed on Nintendo Switch, and despite some performance issues we gave it a hearty recommendation in our review. Its early sales, combined with plenty of predecessors, recently tipped the franchise past 5 million sales - not bad, Dood!

It's a full price - and meaty - experience, but there are also various DLC add-ons available now (with a couple still to come). Characters Fuka and Desco are among the options (as you can see in the trailer above), if you want a baseball fanatic and a wannabe end boss in your roster.

Nintendo's Selling Miniature Versions Of Its Iconic Nintendo Store Statues

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 03:30 AM PDT

Available starting this weekend.

If you've been lucky enough to visit Nintendo's world-famous store in Tokyo (or even if you've just watched hundreds of videos of other people visiting it on YouTube instead like us), you'll no doubt have seen the four statues that proudly adorn the shop floor.

Mario, Link, Isabelle and an Inkling can all be seen on large podiums in the centre of the store – the four characters serve as the store's mascots, often being used in its logos and even being plastered all across the store's windows. Now, Nintendo's giving you the chance to take these statues home. Kind of.

Capcom Reports Record Q1 Profits, Monster Hunter Rise Continues To Grow

Posted: 29 Jul 2021 03:00 AM PDT

The hits keep coming.

A sentiment we've shared in Nintendo Life Towers, and we suspect is also shared by a number of Switch owners, is that Capcom is on a roll. In this calendar year we've had Monster Hunter Rise, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, Ghosts 'n Goblins Resurrection and just recently the brilliant The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles. A mix of new titles, sequels, reimaginings and remasters that have all done well. Add Resident Evil Village into that mix and it's been quite a year.

The company has now published its Q1 financial results - yes, it's that time already - and reported record sales and profits. Both net sales and net income were up over 100% from the equivalent period last year, as momentum from key releases pushed the results forward.
