Diplomacy and dating sim Ambition: A Minuet In Power has entered the party Posted: 18 Aug 2021 03:13 PM PDT ![]() I can barely survive a two hour dinner party on most occasions, which is how I know I'd not survive life in the 1700's aristocracy—especially not right before the French Revolution. I do enjoy a good read though, so perhaps I'll stand a chance leaving with my head attached in the diplomacy and dating simulation Ambition: A Minuet In Power. This high society dating sims is out now, so you can take your own chances navigating your social scene without visiting the guillotine. |
The Myst remake brings its classic puzzling to PC next week Posted: 18 Aug 2021 02:22 PM PDT ![]() Oft re-released classic adventure Myst is getting re-released yet again, this time as a remake with snazzy modern updates. Cyan Worlds launched a VR remake late last year but mentioned plans to bring the new version to us regular "flat screen" PC folks as well. The time is nearly upon us at last, because Cyan say that you'll be venturing back into Myst next week on August 26th. |
Pretty apocalypse puzzler Cloud Gardens is outgrowing early access Posted: 18 Aug 2021 12:57 PM PDT ![]() Urban decay and environment puzzler Cloud Gardens emerged in early access last September and has now announced that it's blooming into full release nearly a year to the day later. These little post-apocalyptic dioramas have levels with challenges for you to complete campaign style and a creative mode for sandbox building creations. After spending a year tweaking features, the developers have announced it will be leaving early access on September 1 with an update bringing 15 new levels, 120 new objects, and lot more. |
Epic Games Store is testing a Steam Direct style self-publishing program Posted: 18 Aug 2021 11:39 AM PDT ![]() In their continued effort to court more games and customers, Epic are getting ready to expand the options for developers releasing on the Epic Games Store. Until now, Epic say they've had an internal, manual process for publishing to the store, which they'd like to now start getting into the hands of developers. They're opening up a closed beta program for their self-publishing tools, which will allow developers to set up their own product pages, pricing, game updates, and more on the EGS. |
Get a brand new Intel Core i7 11700K CPU for £279 (30% off) Posted: 18 Aug 2021 10:42 AM PDT ![]() The Intel Core i7 11700K is a very strong processor for gaming, inheriting the same huge single-core uptick as other 11th-gen processors while offering eight cores and sixteen threads, the exact same count as the flagship Core i9 11900K. That means nearly flagship-level performance for a much lower price - and now an Ebay seller is offering the 11700K at £60 off its normal price, just £279. That's a deal worth knowing about, so here's the link - and a little more on what makes the 11700K a suitable choice for your next PC build. |
Highlights from Gamesplanet's biggest sale of the year Posted: 18 Aug 2021 10:17 AM PDT ![]() UK and European retailer Gamesplanet is running their biggest sale of the year right now, offering deep discounts on a range of PC games from classic titles to modern marvels until August 23rd. Here are our some of our favourites from the sale, including from today's Flash Deals and options from the promotion proper. |
Dreamscaper is a roguelike that's a bit like Hades meets Life Is Strange Posted: 18 Aug 2021 10:00 AM PDT ![]() Continuing my recent trend of "Ed tries an indie game and realises he quite likes it", I have another one for you. It's called Dreamscaper and it's a bit like if Hades and Life Is Strange had a child that's both murderous and heartfelt. So if you're up for adopting a new roguelike, then this might be worth taking a look at. |
Here's 13 minutes of new Life Is Strange: True Colors gameplay Posted: 18 Aug 2021 09:11 AM PDT ![]() Deck Nine's next supernatural drama 'em up Life Is Strange: True Colors is just about to land in September and Square Enix have now queued up a longer look at an early part of the game while you wait. The new 13 minutes of gameplay show off protagonist Alex Chen's first meeting with two other main characters—and potential romantic interests—at the local record store. Perfect place for a bit of bants about Smash Mouth and Kings Of Leon, naturally. |
Twelve Minutes review: not quite enough time Posted: 18 Aug 2021 09:00 AM PDT ![]() Our experience of time isn't fixed. If you're told you've got two minutes to put away the washing then it doesn't feel like any time at all. If a stranger is staring at you on a train, however, unblinking and silent, then you realise that two minutes is, in fact, an eternity. 12 minutes would seem like a luxurious amount of time in many contexts, but when you have that amount of time to incapacitate a cop, untangle a murder and escape a time loop, all from your one-bedroom flat, it turns out it's quite short. Nevertheless, this is the challenge presented to you in the puzzle game Twelve Minutes. You play a man voiced by James McAvoy who comes home for a nice evening with his Daisy Ridley wife, only for a Willem Dafoe policeman to burst in, zip tie you both, and strangle you to death for objecting to these circumstances. Luckily, every time you are murdered by Willem, or even try and walk out of your flat, or burn out the 12 minutes, you start the loop all over again. |
Indie ratcapade Tails Of Iron is Dark Souls meets Redwall Posted: 18 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT ![]() I had to write guides for Dark Souls III, so I am in the position of being acceptable at playing Soulslikes games, while also not being mad about them. I appreciate the artistry involved, and the accomplishment at being great at them, but I'm just not often in the mood for a game to be outright mean to me. Tails Of Iron kind of tricks you into thinking it's not mean, because it's a nice 2D kingdom of little rats who all flute at each other like Clangers (because, producer and designer Jack Bennett told me, they tried squeaks and it was too annoying). Aw, how sweet! You can give your little rat armour and a sword! They think they're people! Oh. Oh dear, I have just ripped the intenstines out of a giant frog that was trying to crush me. My goodness. |
"There isn't something secret embedded in the Steam Deck" like the Steam Controller, says Valve Posted: 18 Aug 2021 03:33 AM PDT ![]() When Valve first released the Steam Controller, it had a hidden, latent gyroscope inside it that Valve switched on later to get it extra hardware functionality. Alas, anyone hoping for similar technological surprises inside their upcoming portable Steam Deck PC are going to be disappointed, as Valve designer Greg Coomer has assured me there "isn't something secret embedded in the Steam Deck that we're going to turn on later" (if only because it already has a gyro built-in). It will, however, continue to get plenty of additional post-launch updates that will give it new features on the software side, he said, including a bunch of nifty cloud capabilities. |
