Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:31 PM PDT

343 Industries have often stressed that launch day for Halo Infinite is just the beginning of the journey for the next Halo. That's only getting more true as they announce two big features that aren't making it in for launch. 343 got together for a development update video since the first big technical test to talk results and plans for the future. What do you suppose is next for the 3rd Street Saints? Volition's unapologetically bombasic action series Saints Row is about to give us the lowdown. We're slated to find out more next Wednesday at the Gamescom kickoff, but here's what we know right now.

Skyrim is getting fishing and yet another new edition

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 10:41 AM PDT

Ten years after the release of Skyrim, Bethesda will revisit their fantasy RPG series with... another edition of Skyrim. Yep, still no Elder Scrolls 6 news. But at QuakeCon yesterday, Bethesda did announce a new 'Anniversary Edition' crammed with hundreds of wee bits and pieces of extra content from their Creation Club store. Perhaps more interesting than that, they also revealed that they're adding fishing to Special Edition, in a slightly fiddly way.

Murder puzzle sandbox Deathloop's release date is approaching, and Arkane Lyon have turned up at QuakeCon to talk more about their next supernatural FPS adventure. Particularly PvP, which they'd yet to get deep into the details on. You can catch their panel right here with a good dive on how each side of the PvP coin is a bit different and why you'll want to leave it enabled.

G String is like Half-Life 2, except that I like it

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:47 AM PDT

Old school shooters are still in vogue and that's basically a good thing. But I wonder where it'll lead.

G String might offer a clue. As well as having possibly the worst name in history, it's a strange sort of throwback to the early/mid 2000s, an era you might, if you had to say these things for a living, call "middle school". I'm surprised at how refreshing I found that.

Best Marshal loadout in Warzone Season 5

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:32 AM PDT

The Marshal is an early Season 5 addition to Warzone, and it’s a fun one. This handgun is really a tiny shotgun, with all the expected properties. It has options for Dragon’s Breath Rounds and Akimbo, so there’s a lot of fun to be had even if it won’t be meta. If you want to give the Marshal a try, we’re here to help with our guide to the best Marshal loadout in Warzone.

The best Genshin Impact Amber build

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:25 AM PDT

Want to learn how to create the best build for Amber in Genshin Impact? Amber is widely regarded as Genshin Impact's least desirable party member, but as the second playable character you unlock in the game's prologue questline, you're going to be playing as her for a while regardless of your opinion of her as a fighter. Furthermore, as one of only a handful of completely free characters in the game, this Pyro Bow user is your friend if you're looking to keep costs down in this free-to-play RPG phenomenon.

EWS podcast episode 152: another nightmarish gameshow special

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 08:00 AM PDT

This week Matthew is away doing other things - how dare he! But Alice and Nate are here with another episode of the Electronic Wireless Show podcast where we play Sweeten The Deal, featuring travelling around the world on a raft with Geoff Keighley, and every live games event being a Psychonauts-style level about your subconscious. How sweet would those deals need to be for you to say yes?

We do also chat about some games as well, including some actual current releases! But the most important question is: if you had to eat an entire gorilla, which celebrity chef would you choose to prepare it for you? Also, apologies in advance for getting the episode number wrong yet again.

Tails Of Iron's villains are frogs because they have an "innate evil-ness"

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 07:40 AM PDT

Soulslikes are like, so in right now. Truthfully I don't remember when they weren't in, so it's nice when one comes along that has a slightly different vibe than just doom, gloom and big swords. Tails Of Iron has doom, gloom, big-ish swords and a rat kingdom that's been overthrown by frogs. Lead designer at developers Odd Bug Studio, Jack Bennett, tells me the frogs are the bad guys because "obviously frogs have this innate evil-ness to them", which is a statement and a half to say to someone who quite likes frogs.

Bennett also told me a bit about what it was like working with Doug Cockle (voice actor of Geralt in The Witcher series) who narrates this game, their plans for more stories in the Tails Of Iron world, and why he thinks the genre is so popular. But honestly, I'm a little hung up on why he thinks frogs are evil, so we'll get to all that in a bit.

Dandy Dungeon dev's History of RPGs series has just got English subtitles, and it's ace

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 07:30 AM PDT

For me, Little King's Story and Dandy Dungeon dev Yoshiro Kimura is one of the great national treasures of the Japanese gaming industry. He's worked at Square Enix, Grasshopper Manufacture, and in the last few years he's set up his own independent studio Onion Games, making quirky, oddball adventures that I love very much. He may not have achieved the same kind of mega fame as your Shigeru Miyamotos, Hideo Kojimas or Tetsuya Nomuras, but his games have always managed to make me laugh and smile whenever I've played them.

Recently, he started a YouTube series on the history and theory of RPGs, and last month Onion Games started putting English subtitles on some of its earliest episodes. They're a great watch, and I'd highly recommend making some time for them over the weekend if you're a fan of the genre.

The best Genshin Impact Traveler build

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 06:40 AM PDT

Want to learn how to create the best build for the Traveler in Genshin Impact? The Traveler is your starting character in Genshin Impact, and they're a little different from the other playable characters in the game. For one thing, you get to choose their name and gender (though both characters will play a role regardless of which you choose; and, by default, the male Traveler is called Aether and the female Traveler is called Lumine). Secondly, their elemental relation is unaligned and can adapt during gameplay.

Despite these unique features, the Traveler has a lot in common with the rest of your character roster in that you can still customise their build with your choice of weapons, artifacts, ascension materials, talents, abilities, and constellations.

Black Myth: Wukong's new trailer has an epic fight with a snowy dragon

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 03:29 AM PDT

It's been a few months since we last saw any newness for the upcoming soulslike Black Myth: Wukong, but it's looking as gorgeous as ever in a new gameplay trailer that dropped today. This new Nvidia DLSS footage is designed to show off all the lovely visuals in Unreal Engine 5, and it does a very good job. Have a watch below to be taken through dramatic boss fights on snowy mountains, a scenic flight through rocky outcroppings, and catch a glimpse of a sparky dragon I'd like to look at but never meet.
