Bomb Rush Cyberfunk's Nintendo Switch Exclusivity Might Only Last One Week

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 05:05 PM PDT

Funky news for other console platforms.

Last week's Indie World Presentation got off to a high-energy start with another look at the Jet Set-inspired release Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

It was confirmed then and there that the game would be a 'timed console exclusive' - in other words, it won't be out on "other" platforms like Xbox or PlayStation at the same time as the Switch release. While there was no mention of how long this period would last, not long after the show - Team Reptile shared the following message on social media:

Fortnite Copies From Among Us' Homework With New 'Impostors' Mode

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 10:30 AM PDT

Real sus.

Fortnite has never shied away from its pop culture references (and stealing things from other creators) so it's not hugely surprising that their new mode, Fortnite Impostors, does a little bit of both.

The mode is... well, it's very similar to Among Us: up to ten players are assigned either an Agent or Impostor role, with the Agents having to complete assignments to keep The Bridge running, and Impostors trying to win by sabotaging assignments, teleporting players, and manipulating people into thinking they're Agents, too. Impostors can even complete assignments to look less suspicious.

Soapbox: Chiptune Is Great, But The Impact Of A Full Orchestra Is Unbeatable

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Elevated storytelling.

It's wonderful to see the love for video game music in our current Nintendo Life Video Game Music Festival; it'll rightly celebrate all sorts of audio and soundtracks across varied games and genres. When the right music combines with an outstanding game, there is arguably no more satisfying experience in entertainment; the fusion of storytelling, visuals, audio and player agency make gaming truly unique.

For this little article I'm focusing on one specific vibe and style, however — orchestral game music.

Young Souls Shows Off Cool Co-Op Boss Fights, Due This Fall

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 09:00 AM PDT

"Our goal from day one was to make boss fights the core of the game experience".

Stylish fighting games are in relatively plentiful supply, but another one ready to make its pitch is Young Souls from the development team 1P2P. The studio's name is a giveaway, as there's a focus on co-op play in this one - albeit you can also tackle it solo if you like.

As you can see in the trailer above this is a game with a big focus on bombastic boss fights, a point made by the developers over on the PlayStation blog. This one is heading to Switch soon, too, targeting a Fall release.

'Best Month Ever' Will Take Us To The 1960s For An Emotional Road Trip

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 08:00 AM PDT

A modern point-and-click.

The Switch has proven to be a good home for a number of 'point and click' games, albeit it's more 'point and tap' or dragging a cursor around with the stick. Either way, lounging in a comfortable spot with the portable Switch makes it ideal for working through stories and puzzles. Perhaps, then, Best Month Ever could be one to watch.

The Hori Flex Assistive Controller For Switch Is Now Available In The US

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 07:00 AM PDT

And with a nice price reduction, too.

Last year peripheral manufacturer HORI announced it was producing an accessibility controller for Nintendo Switch, the HORI Flex, and back in June we were lucky enough to try out the multifuncional Flex controller and some accessories courtesy of UK distributors Pretorian UK.

Well, the controller is now available to purchase from Inclusive TLC in the US and after various behind-the-scenes discussions, the impressive controller also has a reduced base price in both the UK and US — £149 exc VAT / $265 respectively, plus tax and shipping. Increased availability of units from Hori and discussion with distributors has resulted in a lower base price, which obviously makes the controller more attractive and accessible to players.

Feature: Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix, Or That Time Mario Got Movin’ To Mozart

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:00 AM PDT

The funky rhythm comin' at ya!

On the surface Dance Dance Revolution: Mario Mix appears to be the ordinary and obvious by-product of Konami and Nintendo continuing to operate in the same creative space.

After all, by the time of the game's 2005 release, Mario had already been doing non-Mario things for a very long time — he could paint, ride karts, run a hotel, star in his very own RPG, administer medication, and so much more. Dance Dance Revolution had not only included smattering of licensed tunes since the original's 1998 arcade release, but had also proved it was more than happy to cooperate with high-profile brands, even to the point of producing a few Hello Kitty LCD DDR games.

A Night At The Races Aims For A Unique Story And Arcade Mix On Switch

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 05:00 AM PDT

Arrives next month.

'A game within a game' is a fun idea when done well, and A Night at the Races - developed by Mushy Jukebox and published by Nakana.io - aims to deliver on the premise soon on Switch eShop; it arrives on 3rd September priced at $9.99 / 9.99€.

You can get a taste for it in the trailer above; its narrative is that you've been invited to play in a clandestine tournament, and you need to win in order to 'get the prize, pay your debts, escape hell'. The game your character plays, and the leaderboards they try to top, are those that you'll engage in most of the time. You can see some specifics in the game details below.

Random: Fan Transforms N64 To Play Switch Games, Complete With Cart Reader And USB Inputs

Posted: 17 Aug 2021 04:00 AM PDT

Meet the 'NS64'.

Modern games are ace, but there's also nothing quite like the clunky plastic of older systems, so how can you enjoy the best of both worlds at the same time? Well, just rip out the insides of an N64 and stick a Switch in there, apparently.

Yes, one fan going by the name QnadianBacon has taken an old and broken Nintendo 64 – bought as 'for parts' on eBay – and placed all of the necessary components that make a Nintendo Switch tick inside. Thanks to their hard work, the N64 casing now features a Switch cartridge slot (so no console docking required) and the controller ports have been transformed into USB ports, allowing for four wired controllers to be used at once.
