Nintendo's Metroid Dread Marketing Campaign Is Well Underway In Japan Posted: 11 Sep 2021 05:00 PM PDT Samus returns. Nintendo has been criticised in the past for not giving the Metroid series enough spotlight compared to certain other franchises, but it seems things will be different this time around. Quick Beats: Pulstar, Mega Man, And Final Fight Composer Talks Joe Hisaishi And The Beatles Posted: 11 Sep 2021 11:00 AM PDT "I wish I had done one of the Mario games. Maybe Mario Party". Throughout the Nintendo Life Video Game Music Festival we're speaking to a range of composers and musicians for a mixture of in-depth interviews and shorter, sharper (and perhaps a little goofier) Q&As where we ask just ten rapid-fire personal questions; we're calling these shorter features 'Quick Beats'. Today we're talking to Harumi Fujita, a former Capcom composer whose work includes classic arcade games such as Final Fight, Bionic Commando, and Pulstar, and a host of 8-bit Nintendo titles including Mega Man 3, Strider, Gargoyle's Quest, and — an absolute personal favourite — Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers. She's also contributing to the upcoming (and long-awaited) Windjammers 2. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

The Analogue Pocket Has Now Been Delayed Until December Posted: 11 Sep 2021 08:55 AM PDT "We understand how frustrating this is". The Analogue Pocket - a portable FPGA-based device compatible with the entire Game Boy library and other systems via adapters - has been delayed yet again. Following on from its delay at the start of April, which pushed it back to an October release, Analogue has now shifted the shipping date to December. "New Covid restrictions" are to blame, according to the official website - and the company understands how "frustrating" this update likely is for anyone looking forward to getting their hands on this device: Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Posted: 11 Sep 2021 08:00 AM PDT We talk with the Hades composer, and Zagreus himself. We recently spoke to award-winning composer Darren Korb as part of our Quick Beats series, where he kindly answered ten quickfire questions about his musical tastes. However, that small snippet was just part of a much larger conversation we were lucky enough to have with Supergiant Games' in-house composer and audio designer a little while ago. The studio's first game, Bastion, first released on Xbox 360 in July 2011 and would eventually come to other platforms, including Switch in 2018. After falling in love with it nearly a decade ago (played on an iPad, of all places), we couldn't resist double dipping on Switch and the game's incredible atmosphere held up very well years later, and its rich soundscape and smart audio design is key — not to mention the unforgettable tones of Logan Cunningham as the narrator. Platinum Would "Definitely" Port Star Fox Zero To Switch, If Given The Opportunity Posted: 11 Sep 2021 07:05 AM PDT But design decisions would likely be up to Nintendo. The Nintendo Switch has seen a lot of games ported across from the Wii U generation, but one many fans are still waiting on is Star Fox Zero. PlatinumGames noted last August how it had no idea if Nintendo would bring the game to the hybrid system, and mentioned how a future port might not even be something it's necessarily involved with. Now, just over a year later, Platinum's head Atsushi Inaba has told our friends over at VGC how the studio is "definitely" up for porting the Wii U Star Fox entry - if the chance came up. Part of the reason Inaba wants to do this is simply to make the game available to more people: Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Review: Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions - Comes Out Swinging On Switch Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:00 AM PDT That's how winnin' is done! The Rocky series has deservedly cemented itself as one of the most iconic franchises of modern cinema. It naturally spawned a number of games over the years, with developer Survios turning out the latest efforts: the 2018 VR title Creed: Rise to Glory and Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions. The latter is a departure from the studio's usual VR efforts, billing itself as a straight up arcade beat-em-up featuring 20 characters from the Rocky franchise. Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions doesn't feel like a true boxing title. It's more of a cross between pure beat-em-up games like Street Fighter or Tekken and the more traditional boxing games like Fight Night. That's no bad thing, either. Big Rumble Boxing fundamentally feels fun to play, despite some obvious limitations to the core gameplay. It's an accessible game that features several difficulty options, but maintains a fairly bog standard control scheme throughout the game, allowing even boxing newcomers to pick this one up with ease. Quick Beats: Save Me Mr Tako! Composer Talks Flyrule, Ravel And Star Wars D6 Posted: 11 Sep 2021 04:00 AM PDT 10 quick Qs for Marc-Antoine Archier. Today we're quizzing Marc-Antoine Archier, the composer of Save Me Mr Tako! who we previously spoke to as part of a roundtable retro-flavoured interview alongside Manami Matsumae and Jake Kaufman. That was a more serious affair, though — this time we're asking Marc-Antoine the real important questions, like the instrument he'd take on a magical quest. We're regular Jeremy Paxmans over here.
