Rare Sealed SNES Trove Discovered By German Retailer

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:34 AM PDT

Vintage video games aren't hard to come by these days, but finding a game in mint and sealed condition? Now that's a rarity. As spotted by Nintendo Life, German retailer Galeria Kaufhof happens to have stumbled on a box of forgotten SNES games and has even put a few of them up for sale.

If you've been looking to add Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals--which was known simply as Lufia in Europe--to your collection, you can grab the game for a modest $95 for a copy that still has that factory-fresh smell sealed inside of it.

The catch here is that you can only reserve a copy on Galeria Kaufhof's website, as you'll need to go pick it up yourself in person. This version also includes a strategy guide to go along with its manual, adding to its value.

WoW: Burning Crusade Classic Adds Two New Raids, Guild Banks, And More

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:13 AM PDT

Players can now venture into Serpentshrine Cavern to confront Lady Vashj or ascend to The Eye of Tempest Keep to defeat Kael'thas Sunstrider in World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Classic's first content update, Overlords of Outland.

While the update, which goes live today, makes it so the new raids are technically available, a lengthy attunement process is required to step into each instance. Players will need to have completed multiple other raids, lengthy quest chains, and heroic dungeons in order to actually get the ability to participate in Burning Crusade Classic's new content. The update also marks the start of a new Arena season, complete with new gear to earn, as well as introduces two new factions to earn reputation with in exchange for rewards.

Outside of new content, the update adds heavily anticipated features like guild banks. Prior to this point, guild leaders would often make multiple level one characters and use their bag space and bank storage to hold the guild's various crafting materials and supplies. That process became cumbersome quickly, with those operating the guild banks needing to log out of their main character, log in with a bank character (or several), and coordinate materials between them all. Guild banks simplify this process greatly, letting members deposit and withdraw items with ease.

Star Wars And Game Of Thrones Star Joins Netflix's Wednesday

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:09 AM PDT

Actor Gwendoline Christie, who played Captain Phasma in the Star Wars franchise and Brienne of Tarth in the Game of Thrones franchise, has joined Tim Burton's upcoming series reimagining of The Addams Family for Netflix.

The announcement came via a release from the streaming service, which also indicates that Christie will play Larissa Weems, "the principal of Nevermore Academy who still has an axe to grind with her former classmate Morticia Addams." Christie is the latest to join an ever-growing ensemble, which also recently added 10 actors in August. All these names round out the already impressive recent announcement that Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzman will be starring, respectively, as Morticia and Gomez Addams.

Burton will serve as director and executive producer on the eight-episode series. Al Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville) will serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Burton and Andrew Mittman for 1.21, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman for Glickmania, and Gail Berman.

Destiny 2's New Trials Of Osiris Is Great, But Needs One Big Change

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Last week saw the relaunch of the Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2's Season of the Lost, which has been drastically improved by Bungie's recent changes to how it works. For years, even with some recent tweaks to make it more rewarding, Trials was an exclusionary mode that drove away lower-skill players because it was so dominated by higher-skill ones. If you wanted to play some sweaty multiplayer matches and get stomped for your trouble, you jumped into Trials--but that's not the case anymore.

Still, the first weekend of the Trials of Osiris identified one glaring weakness in the mode that's antithetical to what it's supposed to be. Loathe as I am to suggest a tweak to Trials that will make it more difficult for average players like me to "go Flawless" and reach one of Destiny 2's highest peaks, it's something that makes Trials unfair. That weakness is the ability to see that the people who are matching into your game aren't on a team, but rather, queuing in solo, and Bungie needs to change it.

Since its inception back in Destiny 1, Trials was a top-tier competitive multiplayer event that was, essentially, the toughest PvP challenge you could take on. Up until now, you could only play the mode if you had a custom-made team that included two other people. The goal in Trials is to win seven matches of Destiny's Elimination mode--where you only get one life and your teammates have to revive you to keep you in the fight--without losing. Doing so is considered a "Flawless" run and earns you special guns and mods you can't get anywhere else in the game, to say nothing of the bragging rights that come with it. There's even a special social space, the Lighthouse, only available to Trials winners.

Lawn Mowing Simulator Briefly Had More Viewers On Twitch Than Call Of Duty: Warzone

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 08:33 AM PDT

Streaming platform Twitch's most-viewed games are usually easy to predict. Apex Legends, Fortnite, and Valorant regularly top the charts, but for a brief time, the newly-released Lawn Mowing Simulator rose to the top of the streaming charts. Lawn Mowing Simulator even surpassed Call of Duty: Warzone with its gameplay, which delivers exactly what it promises on the box.

While developer Skyhook's yardwork simulator has since been eclipsed on Twitch by Warzone, the game has a dedicated following and fans of what it has to offer. So how did Lawn Mowing Simulator earn more viewers than Warzone for a brief moment in time? By being passionate and authentic about its subject matter, according to Skyhook.

"Lawn Mower Simulator has been a labor of neatly-trimmed-love from day one," the developer explained in a blog post. "Every single thing we've crafted--from the gloriously green maps to the specifications of the equipment people like Atlas use in everyday life--has been done with care. We take pride in every detail, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant to some, and want our players to experience the authentic --and sometimes literal--highs and lows of lawn mowing."

Amazon's I Know What You Did Last Summer Reboot Show Gets First Trailer

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 08:12 AM PDT

The first trailer for the new I Know What You Did Last Summer series has been released. The reboot of the hit '90s slasher movie hits Amazon Prime Video on October 15.

The trailer is short but sets up the show's basic plot. A group of teenagers are attending a wild, lavish graduation party that is filled with the sort of things you'd expect--sex, drugs, booze, and rivalries. Later that night there is a fatal accident on the highway, and the kids cover up their crime. But of course, someone knows about it and a year later, sinister text messages start arriving. The trailer has a modern, hand-held feel more reminiscent of shows like Euphoria than the glossy vibes of the original movie, and with any luck, it'll deliver the chills and gore as well as the teen angst. Check it out below:

The first four episodes of I Know What You Did Last Summer hit Prime Video on October 15, with subsequent episodes releasing weekly. It will run until November 12. The show stars Madison Iseman (Annabelle Comes Home), Bill Heck (The Ballad of Buster Scruggs), Brianne Tju (47 Meters Down: Uncaged), Ashley Moore (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), Fiona Rene (Underwater), and Brooke Bloom (Homecoming). The first episode is written by Shay Hatton (Army of the Dead), and James Wan is one of the producers.

Netflix Tudum Fan Event Will Have First Looks At Cowboy Bebop, Stranger Things, And Much More

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 07:50 AM PDT

Netflix has unveiled the full list of over 70 series, films, and specials that will be joining Tudum's virtual stage on September 25. Like Comic-Con and DC before it, and as was recently announced, the streaming service is now getting into the streaming virtual fan events--this one, naturally, getting viewers pumped for upcoming content.

Dwayne Johnson, Jennifer Aniston, Adam Sandler, and Zack Snyder are just a handful of roughly 45 names newly announced as talent that will help take on co-hosting and announcing duties. Tudum (think, the sound the streaming service loudly makes when it boots up) will spotlight some of Netflix's most popular returning shows such as Stranger Things, Bridgerton, The Witcher, The Umbrella Academy, Money Heist, and Cobra Kai, as well as blockbuster films like Red Notice, Don't Look Up, Extraction, The Harder They Fall, and The Old Guard, among many others. Also of particular note is the highly-anticipated Cowboy Bebop, which is expected to have a presence.

Fans can co-stream the event by registering on the Tudum website. Netflix assured co-streamers will be able to stream on Facebook, YouTube, and Twitch without fear of getting DMCA'd due to copyright strikes because the event will have content cleared for global use for three months. Just to be safe, Netflix recommends streamers turn off clips, highlights, and post broadcast vods of the events on Twitch.

Deathloop PC Stuttering Issues Are Being Investigated As A Priority

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 07:43 AM PDT

Deathloop launched this week behind rave reviews, including a 10/10 here at GameSpot, but the game's release hasn't gone over entirely without issue. Some players on PC are reporting "stuttering issues," and the developer is on the case.

Posting on Reddit, a community manager for the game said addressing this issue is a main focus for the team right now. "We are aware of reports that some PC users are experiencing stuttering issues in Deathloop," the community manager said. "We're actively investigating the issue right now as a priority, and will update you with more specific information as soon as possible."

Deathloop's aggregate review score on Steam is labeled as "mixed," due in part to various issues players are reporting. Beyond stuttering, players are reporting crashes and slowdowns, with some putting the blame on the game's anti-piracy software.

Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley Gets Moody Poster Ahead Of Trailer Release

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 07:10 AM PDT

The poster for Guillermo Del Toro's Nightmare Alley has been released. The dark period thriller stars Bradley Cooper and Cate Blancett and it hits theaters on December 17.

The poster is a close-up of Cooper, wearing a suit and hat appropriate to the movie's 1940s setting, while behind him are several provocative posters for various carnival attractions. The ominous tagline simply reads, "Man or Beast." Check it out below:

The poster arrives ahead of the Nightmare Alley trailer, which is expected later this week. The movie is based on the classic 1946 novel of the same title by William Lindsay Gresham, and the movie's official synopsis reads, "An ambitious young carny with a talent for manipulating people with a few well-chosen words hooks up with a female psychiatrist who is even more dangerous than he is." The novel was previously adapted into a movie back in 1947.

Toem Review: Look At This Photograph

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 06:43 AM PDT

Toem begins when your nana gifts you a camera as you head off to see the "Toem" phenomenon. She nearly shows you her own photo from when she did the same thing at your age, but hastily hides it. Seeing the Toem phenomenon is presented as a rite of passage, and something you really just need to experience for yourself. She never describes exactly what Toem is, just that it's spectacular and life-changing. But maybe what she's really remembering is the journey to see it.

Most of Toem is essentially a series of photo puzzles. When you first journey away from home, you learn that you can collect stamps on your community card by performing acts of kindness for townspeople (which almost always involve a camera, somehow) or fulfilling photo challenges. You might be asked to find a cartoonishly shady character hanging around town, or to point a lighthouse keeper in the direction of boats that need help using your zoom lens. Collecting enough stamps gets you a free bus pass to the next area. It's a simple, clever construct that creates a broad space for different types of puzzle challenges.

All of this is presented in a stark black-and-white style that feels boldly minimalist. The view is isometric in a way that often limits your ability to see all of your surroundings, so you'll look from behind the camera lens to get a better view of things. The interplay between these views is constant, and despite a sparse visual style and monochrome presentation, it never feels confusing. Everything is perfectly readable in both views, which is a testament to the strength of the art design.

Age Of Empires 4 Invites Everyone To This Weekend's Stress Test

Posted: 15 Sep 2021 06:34 AM PDT

Microsoft's next stress test for Age of Empires 4, in which it sees just how many people it can throw at the game before breaking it, finally has a date. From 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET on September 17 and until September 20, you'll be able to grab the game from its Steam page or the Xbox Insider app.

Provided that your PC can meet the moderate minimum requirements for the real-time strategy title, the goal behind this weekend's test is to ensure that matchmaking, lobbies, and additional systems can hold up when the full game launches.

Age of Empires 4 will automatically check your PC to see if it can handle its visuals, and will assign graphics settings based on what it finds. Much like last week's stress test, the content on offer will include a tutorial mission, AI skirmishes, and a chance to throw down with real people in multiplayer.
