Fire Breaks Out At Super Nintendo World's Yoshi Ride, Park Forced To Temporarily Close Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:30 AM PST Thankfully no one was harmed. Japan's Super Nintendo World, located at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka, looks like a place where dreams are made. It boasts an assortment of glorious Nintendo-themed decorations, a couple of rides, more merch than you could ever afford and more, but it's sure had its problems, too. Things didn't get off to the best of starts when, just after a single month of being open, the park was forced to close due to a significant spike in COVID-19 cases in the area. In the summer, a large Goomba tower decoration fell down, sparking an investigation to ensure visitor safety. And now, a fire has broken out at one of the park's rides – thankfully, no one has been harmed. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Looks Like Street Fighter VI Will Be Revealed Next Year, But Will It Come To Switch? Posted: 24 Nov 2021 07:00 AM PST "We look forward to providing you more information next year". As Capcom winds down its development work on Street Fighter V, it has dropped serious hints that the next game in the series is going to be revealed in 2022. In its latest development update for the fifth game, Capcom concludes with the message "we'll be back with more news about the future of Street Fighter". Street Fighter V launched in 2016 and has remained a PlayStation console exclusive since then, although it has also been released in arcades and on PC. Capcom has supported the game with regular seasonal updates and DLC characters, with the final character, Luke, arriving on 29th November. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
A Year Later Than Planned, Puzzle-Platformer 'Ever Forward' Launches On Switch Next Month Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:30 AM PST Physical pre-orders now live. Pathea Games, a studio you'll likely know as the developer behind My Time at Portia, will be bringing its latest release Ever Forward to Switch next month, it's been confirmed. Originally expected to be launching this time last year, Ever Forward has now been in the works for several years. A press release for the game's launch date announcement notes that the team at Pathea has been busy creating puzzles "with the puzzle gamer in mind"; it reads, "the story and art style are both attractive and good in catching the player's initial attention, but the puzzles are everything." Review: Ruined King: A League of Legends Story - A Brilliant Experience Beyond Its Franchise Posted: 24 Nov 2021 06:00 AM PST Comfortably out of League's league. It feels like the world of Runeterra has just entered the first stages of a great expansion. After being mostly confined to the MOBA for years, things like the new Arcane show, an impending MMO, and some spinoff games are starting to bring this rich universe to audiences that aren't reached by the main title. Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, is one of those spinoff games, but don't be fooled into thinking that this is some half-hearted throwaway advert to get more people to play League. Riot knew what it was doing when it handed this project to Airship Syndicate — of Battle Chasers: Nightwar fame — and we're happy to report that Ruined King has turned out to be a tremendously well-designed RPG. Featuring a memorable cast of characters, incredibly deep gameplay and an attractive art style, this is perhaps one of the most surprising must-have releases of the year. Ruined King features an ensemble cast of some popular League champions, primarily setting around a group of six protagonists that are ultimately led by Miss Fortune. The main narrative takes place in the nautical-themed city of Bilgewater, of which Miss Fortune has only just recently gained control. Things quickly go awry, however, when evil ghosts — brought in by a substance called Black Mist — begin wreaking havoc in the town, and the crew set out on a journey for the Shadow Isles to try to put a stop to it. Everyone on the team has a different reason for going to the Shadow Isles, and the interplay of their goals makes for some fascinating plot developments as the journey goes on. Blasphemous: Wounds Of Eventide Free DLC Arrives Soon On Switch Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:30 AM PST The Penitent One isn't done yet. Back in August it was announced that the rather excellent Blasphemous would be getting another (and final) free DLC expansion titled 'Wounds of Eventide', while Blasphemous II is in development for 2023. Though it's a crowded genre on the eShop, this writer's view is that it's a standout Metroidvania / Souls-like / insert-iffy-comparison-here game from developer The Game Kitchen, so the prospect of more is rather pleasing. As confirmed by publisher Team17 as part of a sizzle reel from the 2021 Golden Joystick Awards, the final update arrives on all platforms on 9th December, so we don't have long to wait to see what it's all about. Details are still thin on the ground beyond an initial tease that "His end was just the beginning", along with some new footage in the video. It looks like a setting that could be a dried out sea, and there are clips of impressive boss battles - including a giant snake that looks particularly deadly. NEO: The World Ends With You Has 'Underperformed Expectations', Square Enix Says Posted: 24 Nov 2021 05:00 AM PST Square's net sales and operating income see year-on-year drop. Square Enix has revealed that NEO: The World Ends With You hasn't met the company's early sales expectations, despite being well received by fans and critics alike. In a newly published results briefing covering the first half of the financial year, the company notes that net sales and operating income within its digital entertainment business have fallen year on year. This is despite the fact that titles like Outriders, NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139..., NEO: The World Ends with You, and Life is Strange: True Colors were all released during that time frame – something that Square puts down to the "challenging comparison" created by the previous year's launches, which include Final Fantasy VII Remake. Posted: 24 Nov 2021 04:30 AM PST Are we in the best timeline, or the worst? If you could hop into a time machine and fly back to the early '90s and tell a young gamer that one day, Nintendo would make a piece of Sega hardware, they'd probably spit out their sugary Sunny D and laugh in your face. "Sega and Nintendo are mortal enemies," they would retort; "what planet on you from, poindexter?" (Or words to that effect, at least). However, despite the '90s being the 'in' decade right now, we no longer occupy that particular time; today, these two Japanese companies are on much better terms, so much so that – yes – we do now have a piece of Sega consumer hardware produced by Nintendo. Rumour: Chrono Trigger Sequel Chrono Cross Might Be Getting A Remaster Posted: 24 Nov 2021 01:30 AM PST "They told me it wasn't PlayStation exclusive". Remasters are all the rage at the moment, so a recent rumour which claims that Square's Chrono Cross is getting the same treatment should come as no great shock. Originally released on the PlayStation in 1999 (Japan) and 2000 (North America), Chrono Cross takes place in the same universe as Chrono Trigger, the classic SNES JRPG. The game was developed by many of the same people who made the 16-bit outing, including Masato Kato, Yasuyuki Honne and Yasunori Mitsuda. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Random: Xbox's 20th Anniversary 'Metaverse' Acknowledges The Time It Tried To Acquire Nintendo Posted: 23 Nov 2021 04:55 PM PST And the rest is history. Xbox, as you've probably heard by now, is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary. It's come a long way over the past few decades, and as part of this milestone, it's gone and created a virtual museum, which some users and media outlets are referring to as a 'metaverse', where you run around as an avatar in a 3D world and look at the company's history. Epic Games Acquires Harmonix, Makers Of Rock Band, To Work On Fortnite Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:45 PM PST Rockfort Bandnite. In the latest tale of giant-company-buys-smaller-studio, Epic Games has acquired Harmonix — a "monumental" deal that will welcome the 26-year-old Rock Band developer into Epic's growing stable of studios that also includes Rocket League developer, Psyonix. In a developer blog published on Tuesday, 23rd November, Harmonix answered a few questions that their fans might have, confirming that they would continue to support Fuser, Rock Band, and other games with DLC, servers, and new seasons: Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: A Bunch Of Little Pikachus Danced Around A Ten-Metre-Tall Pikachu To Celebrate Mall Opening Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:30 PM PST The ritual is complete. Normally, if you heard the news that a bunch of creatures were spotted dancing around a much, much taller version of said creatures, you'd be a little concerned that some sort of arcane rite was being performed. We can't say for certain that that's not the case, but at least it's cute. Back on November 18th, games industry insider Daniel Ahmad posted a few pictures of a mystery, ten-metre-tall Pikachu outside a new Shanghai mall. Today, the reason for the large boi has been revealed: he's part of a partnership between The Pokémon Company and the grand opening of Songjiang INCITY, and he's also a totem around which the smaller dancing Pikachus (which get trotted out at pretty much every event, and sometimes deflate) can gather. Talking Point: 5 Reasons That Nintendo Switch Is Still A Hot Product Posted: 23 Nov 2021 12:00 PM PST Even if it doesn't feel that way to long term fans and owners. Many reading these pages have owned a Switch for nearly 5 years. We likely have extensive game libraries, a wonky Joy-Con stick or two, and a lot of fond memories. Yet the feverish attempts to wish a Switch 'Pro' into existence this year, as opposed to whenever Nintendo is good and ready to release an upgrade or successor, spoke to that desire for something shiny and a bit more powerful. While millions of Sony and Microsoft players - the lucky ones anyway - are enjoying a new generation of hardware the Switch is looking increasingly creaky, while some ports in recent times are either extremely rough or 'Cloud Versions'. Back Page: We Forced A Bot To Read Nintendo News, And It Wrote Its Own Headlines Posted: 23 Nov 2021 11:00 AM PST We're out of a job. In the game magazine business, the Back Page is where you'd find all the weird goofs that we couldn't fit into the rest of the pages. Some may call it "filler"; we prefer "a whole page to make terrible jokes that are tangentially related to the content of the mag". We don't have pages on the internet, but we still love terrible jokes - thus our Back Page features. Today, Kate outsources her job to technology, which seems like one of those cautionary tales... Here at Nintendo Life HQ, we're constantly trying to think up new ways to add a little pizazz to our front page. Stories about Pikachu? We've heard 'em all. New Smash Bros characters? Too easy to guess. Waluigi gets snubbed again? We knew it. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
6Souls Is A Promising Retro-Style Adventure Of 'One Dog And His Faithful Man' Posted: 23 Nov 2021 10:00 AM PST Yes, you can pet the dog. You can't swing an 8-bit cat around at the moment without hitting a retro-style eShop game, but that doesn't mean they're not good. One that we're intrigued by is 6Souls, which arrives on 3rd December priced £7.99 / €7,99 / $7.99USD. Developed by BUG-Studio and published by Ratalaika Games, on the surface it looks like a hybrid of Castlevania and Celeste, with decent mobility, locations full of skeletons and more. It certainly seems to have its own identity too, however, including sections where you play as faithful dog Butch, which is no bad thing. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Trash Quest Is A Tough Platformer With A Retro Vibe Posted: 23 Nov 2021 09:00 AM PST Also a bit of a 'metroidvania', if you can forgive the term. If you like games that are so challenging you're tempted to hurl your controller out of the window, Trash Quest may be one for your radar. Previously released on PC, a small number of user reviews are pretty positive about it as a short, fun and challenging title. Though it's a 'metroidvania', it's a small map (with the game likely to have a budget price too) in which you always spawn back at the same point each time you die. You will keep your goodies, though, so there'll be plenty of memorisation and practice of each tricky screen or boss encounter. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
