We're up to the fourth month of 2022 already, and the releases are starting to ramp up. April is wasting no time getting underway with the release of the new LEGO Star Wars game on 5th April.

Following on from this we've got something for sports fans with MLB The Show 22, and it just keeps getting better and better with games like Chrono Cross and 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. The second half of the month is then filled in with some more Star Wars and the long-awaited release of The Stanley Parable

It seems that online expo season is here, and New Game+ Expo has brought a whole bunch of interesting game announcements. It's often a good show from a Switch perspective, with the participating developers and publishers typically being from the Indie scene, which still very much loves Nintendo's little hybrid.

Remember that trend where everything was cake? You'd see a video of someone's dog on Twitter, and then they'd stick a knife into it and BOOM. It was cake, stupid. Or you'd go to your mum's house for Mother's Day only to find out that some wily pâtissièr had replaced her with pastry, as a fun joke. It was a nightmare! You simply didn't know who to trust any more!

Thank god that's over. Now, we have the Among Us cake instead, which is an impostor pretending to be a cake, but unconvincingly, because it is sold by a cake shop. Sus indeed!

Here are the brass tacks: Kitsune Tails is a platformer inspired by games from late in the 8-bit generation, and it's coming to the Nintendo Switch in 2023. Developer Kitsune Games has just announced that they're also making a prequel: Kitsune Zero, which will be released this year as paid DLC for free "electoral activism platformer" game, Super Bernie World (which is Linux and PC-only).

Heart Machine Reveals Open-World Hyper Light Drifter Sequel, 'Hyper Light Breaker'

Heart Machine, the original makers of indie darling action-adventure RPG Hyper Light Drifter, announced today that they've already begun work on a sequel — just three months after the release of their last game, Solar Ash. It's called Hyper Light Breaker, and it takes the gorgeous 2D pixel-art look of the original game and replaces it with a stylish 3D aesthetic, with massive open biomes to explore.

According to the Steam page, Hyper Light Breaker is set in the Overgrowth, a new land in the world of Hyper Light, and will allow you to play solo or co-op with friends to explore the world and defeat monsters. It's described as an "action rogue-lite adventure", which already sets it apart from Hyper Light Drifter, but the snappy movement of the original looks like it will be maintained — you'll be using a wall-dash, hoverboard, and glider to traverse the land.

Among Us has just been updated, and the update brings one of the most requested features yet: A Friends List!

There are also other changes too, including new cosmetics — on the Switch, you can get Ghostface cosmetics, but Xbox gets an exclusive Master Chief look and PlayStation gets a Ratchet and Clank one too. But they're all free!

The game is a sequel to Valthirian Arc: Hero School Story and continues with the same themes, allowing you to build your school as you see fit as its principal, nurturing the students as they tackle fearsome foes with classic turn-based combat.

You'll be able to completely customise what kind of school you'd like to create, whether it be focusing on building a legion of warriors, or practicing magic to rival that of Hogwarts. Once you cultivate a set of competent students, you can then send them out into the wild to prove their worth and raise your school's prestige.

In fact, it's already 1st April in some parts of the world, and video game companies will insist on making silly-and-obviously-joke announcements alongside silly-but-actually-real announcements.

One of the most eyebrow-raising ones we've come across today is the site metalgear35th, which appears to be an official repository waiting for some anniversary related content from Konami, the holders of the keys to the Metal Gear franchise.

As you're likely aware, Nintendo bolstered the NES and SNES Switch Online line-ups with three new games, but there are a couple of other additions to check out. We have another two 'Special' editions to try, both for iconic games in the Super Nintendo app.

First up we have 'Champion Edition' in Super Punch-Out!!, which basically has all the circuits and content unlocked as if you'd fully beaten the game. Its execution is pretty basic; you need to select a save file called 'Nintendo' and everything is available.

It's that time, once again, for the Famitsu Japanese charts; this time they cover the week of 21st to 27th March/

Of course that brings us into the launch of Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which we already knew had enjoyed a fast sales start in the UK. The good news for fans of the pink one is that has also been evident in Japan, where it shifted a substantial 380,060, way out ahead of everything else and representing a terrific start.

Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 Is Shooting To Switch This July

Keiji Inafune reveals the date in a new trailer.

Nearly two years on from its initial announcement, Inti Creates has revealed that Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is coming to Switch this summer — on 28th July to be precise.

The game was first introduced back in June 2020, so it's taken a while for this 2D action series to officially become a trilogy. Keiji Inafune has served as 'action supervisor' on the project and introduced the update as part of the NGPX stream showcasing various new releases and announcements.

Now Parents Are Getting Their Kids To Sue Nintendo Over Joy-Con Drift

Another class-action lawsuit against Nintendo over Joy-Con drift is being proposed in North America, but this case hinges on the question of whether or not two kids can sue the Japanese giant.

Lawyers for families suing Nintendo in the case 'Sanchez et. al. v. Nintendo of America' claim that an arbitrator has ruled that the two mothers involved in the legal action cannot proceed with a class-action suit. Given this ruling, the mothers have now decided to press on – with their children filing the suit.

Review: Dark Deity - A Shameless But Satisfying Fire Emblem 'Homage'

Well, it's about time someone really, properly ripped off Fire Emblem: Three Houses. No, really, don't get upset; that is truly not the insult it reads like. After all, with no new mainline series title on the horizon — no, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes doesn't count — don't fans deserve a new title to flock around? Thankfully, Dark Deity is here to fill the hole of both Fire Emblem games and alliterative titles featuring two letter "D's". Move aside, Divine Divinity!

And, boys oh boys, this is a shameless lift of Fire Emblem from bottom to breakfast. Everything about its visuals, both on the field and in battle, directly recall the Game Boy Advance instalments of the venerable think-'em-up series (in the West that's the self-titled and Sacred Stones, kids). It's so close, in fact, that questions have to be raised as to how a still-active series can receive such a faithful... ahem... homage on the host system of its own inspiration.

Random: Fan Creates A Stunning Custom Sleeve For Kirby And The Forgotten Land

Physical games are often made even more beloved with the addition of sleeves or steelbooks. Unfortunately, Nintendo rarely offers up such extras for its products (rare examples include steelbooks for the collector's editions of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and Xenoblade Chronicles 2), with most of their fancy special editions generally containing art books, postcards, stickers, and other such trinkets.

With that in mind, Twitter user @CartoonHijinks bucked the trend and created their own sleeve for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and we think it's absolutely stunning - not to mention hilarious! It plays on the idea that Kirby essentially wolfs down anything and everything he can get his hands on, with the opening of the sleeve presumably in place of Kirby's mouth.

Roguelite Action Game 'Astebros' Is Coming To Sega Genesis And Switch

If you're someone who's just itching something new for your Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, then you'll want to keep an eye on Astebros, a new roguelite that will be making its way to the retro console, along with a digital release on Switch.

The project has been funded via Kickstarter via developer Neofid Studios, with 799 backers pledging $64,476 to surpass the target goal of $50,000 at the time of writing. There are still 10 days left to support the project, with the $20 pledge tier bagging you a digital copy of the game on Switch. Higher pledges are more focused on the physical copies for the Genesis, or you could even design your own NPC or boss, if you're rich enough!

A new dongle promises to automatically upscale the Switch to 4K with zero lag, and it's coming to Kickstarter this April.

The 4K Gamer Pro is the follow-up to the 4K Gamer+, which was launched in Asia in 2021. It's a plug-and-play device that takes the 1080p output of the Switch (and other devices) and converts it into 4K.
