Guide: Best Funny Games On Switch - Games That'll Make You Wii Yourself

Posted: 01 Apr 2022 10:00 AM PDT

Urine for a treat.

What does it mean to be funny? Merriam-Webster defines funny as "affording light mirth and laughter", and in these dark times, don't we all need a little bit of Light Mirth?

Well, do we have the mirth-inducing games for you! From witty writing to pants-wettingly chaotic co-op games, this list has every kind of light mirth that you could ever want. Not all games are made equal, so your mileage may vary when it comes to what makes you laugh — if you're amused by people getting their legs sawn off or whatever, nothing short of professional help can reach you now — but hopefully you'll find something to make you lol, lmao, or even roflmao (do so with caution, please).

Review: Touken Ranbu Warriors - A 'My First Musou' That Adds Little To The Formula

Posted: 01 Apr 2022 06:15 AM PDT

The way of the Warriors.

At first blush, Koei Tecmo's Touken Ranbu Warriors appears to be something of a "My First Dynasty Warriors", or a "Diet" Musou. It's based on DMM's (popular in Japan) free-to-play browser-based collectable card game, targeted at Japanese women — specifically a subculture of otaku known as "katana women" – ladies who like to pose with historical Japanese swords. Ironically, this trend more or less began with Capcom's frankly superior Dynasty Warriors clone, Sengoku Basara, which became wildly popular and span off into all manner of media, becoming something of a cultural phenomenon on its home turf. Now Koei Tecmo, via developer Omega Force and co-developer Ruby Party, have carved out a niche of a niche of its own. So what's the end result like?

For a game based more or less on a formula established over 20 years ago, Touken Ranbu Warriors – in terms of core gameplay – is nothing new to Musou veterans. It's an almost excessively lax variation on the template, though, in which the actual 'Easy Mode' offers almost no resistance at all. It feels less like wading into a battlefield teeming with bloodthirsty enemies and more like sweeping an endless succession of floors littered with trash. If you let your character – out of a variety of 15 playable characters – stand around on the battlefield, only very occasionally will an enemy step up to poke you before quickly returning to its original position. If it wasn't for the odd time limit, there would be almost no pressure to compete at all.

Don't worry, it'll be 2nd April soon.

April Fools' Day seems to be loved and disliked in almost equal measure nowadays, but when done well it can at least make us think "huh, it would be cool if that was real" or even raise a smile.

We've been looking around at some Nintendo and gaming-themed pranks from this year and there's a decent range of both. Plenty to make you roll your eyes into infinity, but some good ones, too!

Review: Retroid Pocket 2+ - A Vast Improvement Over Its Forerunner

Posted: 01 Apr 2022 04:00 AM PDT

Even more power in your pocket.

You may well look at images of the shiny new Retroid Pocket 2+ and think you've seen it somewhere else before – that's because this is an iteration on the original Retroid Pocket 2, which we covered last year. As before, it's an Android-powered device with a focus on gaming and emulation, but the team at GoRetroid has been hard at work fixing some of the issues we had with the original – as well as boosting its internal specifications.

However, as we alluded to in that opening paragraph, you'd be forgiven for assuming this is the same system as the standard Retroid Pocket 2 at first glance. The body remains identical, as does the 3.5-inch 640 x 480-pixel display – however, the latter now has a touch interface, which solves one of the biggest complaints we had with the original Pocket 2. The handheld is available in a range of colours, and the Nintendo influence is clear – three of those options are based on the SNES, Game Boy and GameCube, the latter being the one we're reviewing here.

Is 'Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium' On The Way To Switch?

Sequel rated for PC in Korea.

Capcom Arcade Stadium is a wonderful collection of legacy titles from the publisher's history, providing excellent value considering the sheer number of titles available (32 in total!) if you bag yourself the lot. Now, it looks like a sequel of sorts may be on the way.

Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium has been rated for PC by The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea (thanks, Gematsu), with a follow-up rating provided for 'Capcom Arcade 2nd Stadium Bundle #1', suggesting that the collection will release in packs, similar to the first game.

Guide: Where To Pre-Order 'Live A Live' On Switch

Posted: 01 Apr 2022 02:30 AM PDT

Update: Stock appears at Amazon.

Square Enix's latest RPG heading to Switch is Live A Live (actually stylised as LIVE A LIVE), which launches on the console on 22nd July 2022.

It's not technically new, of course, being a revival of the original Live A Live that launched on the Super Famicom exclusively in Japan. This new version finally gives those of us in the west the chance to check it out, however, and with it being presented in the same gorgeous HD-2D visual style as Square Enix's Octopath Traveler and TRIANGLE STRATEGY, it looks to be one of the year's more intriguing releases on Switch.
