British Gas Advises Consumers To Turn Off Games Consoles To Save Money Posted: 27 Apr 2022 10:30 AM PDT "Vampire devices" strike again. British Gas has ruffled a few feathers today. In a report published by the BBC, the UK's biggest energy company has recommended that households should switch off what the company has dubbed "vampire devices". That's not a switched-on TV showing one of the many Dracula films on repeat, or even your Switch running the Castlevania Advance Collection 24-hours a day, but rather a device that still consumes power even then they are on standby. The company has stated that turning off these devices instead of putting them into standby mode could save the average UK household around £147 a year. According to British Gas' research, leaving a games console on standby costs up to £12.17 a year, while leaving a computer or laptop plugged in on the same setting will set you back around £11.22. Guide: Best Star Fox Games Of All Time Posted: 27 Apr 2022 10:00 AM PDT Every Star Fox game, ranked by you. Like any long-running group, the Star Fox team has been through some ups and downs over the years, with some incredible gaming highs serving to make any titles less that life-changingly awesome feel, well, a bit disappointing by comparison. The sentiment that the Star Fox franchise never got better than its first sequel is relatively common — and understandable — yet the series has played host to some wonderful non-64-bit games. From the tactical nuance of Q-Games' Star Fox Command, to Rare and Namco's dalliances on GameCube, and Nintendo's own experiments during the Wii U era, the series has been a test bed for interesting game design ideas and has produced some fascinating, if flawed, results. They may not be all-round, cohesive classics like Star Fox 64 — which celebrates its 25th anniversary today — but each of them offers something intriguing, often many things. There's a reason the fandom flame still burns bright for this foxy franchise. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Round Up: The Internet Celebrates Kirby's 30th Anniversary Posted: 27 Apr 2022 09:30 AM PDT They grow up so fast... It's official, folks: the Kirby franchise is now 30 years old - can you believe it? When HAL Laboratory's debut title in the series - Kirby's Dream Land - launched on April 27th, 1992, we doubt that anyone truly believed the little pink blob would go on to be one of the most widely recognised and celebrated figures in the gaming space. With the launch of Kirby and the Forgotten Land on Switch, the franchise shows no sign of slowing down; in fact, we daresay that Kirby's first proper foray into 3D has done nothing but reignite interest in the franchise. There's a lot of love for the series on a global scale, and folks have been taking to Twitter to celebrate the huge milestone in the best way possible: with beautiful artwork. Review In Progress: Nintendo Switch Sports - Familiar Fun With Friends, But Little More Posted: 27 Apr 2022 06:00 AM PDT Wii haven't come far. Note: At the time of publication the online functionality is not yet live for this game. As it is such a crucial part of the experience, we have decided not to score the game until we can have sampled the full online experience. Once we have, we will update the review accordingly and add a score. When Wii Sports came out in 2006 it was nothing short of a revelation; beforehand video games had been all but relegated to buttons, knobs, and sticks as a means of controlling them, but the Nintendo Wii and its titular pack-in sports title bust that idea wide open. You all know the story — waggle waggle, tennis racquet moves, mum's besotted, dodgy elbow next morning — but now Nintendo's trying to have another pop at the formula (after Wii Sports Resort and we suppose Wii Sports Club) with Nintendo Switch Sports. It's been 16 years, but are we looking at 16 years' worth of improvement? Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Video: A Look Back On The Switch's First Year Of Life Posted: 27 Apr 2022 05:00 AM PDT Felix reveals how the Switch won him over. It's still hard to believe that the Switch has now been in our lives for over 5 years. Granted, there were about 2 years there that many of us would probably rather forget thanks to the "Virus That Shall Not Be Named", but to think that Nintendo's latest console came out in 2017 and we're now barrelling through 2022 is frankly bonkers. Our lovely video producer Felix has been feeling the wistful threads of nostalgia recently, and - likely due to a recent purchase of the Switch OLED - has sat down to talk through his first year with the console, the games he played, and what pushed him to purchase the system in the first place. Namco's Yokai Dochuki, Renamed 'Shadowland', Is The Next Arcade Archives Game On Switch Posted: 27 Apr 2022 04:15 AM PDT A platformer to close out Namco month. We're getting another Arcade Archives release on Switch tomorrow, as the Japan-only platformer Yokai Dochuki is the next game to launch in the series, but with a slightly different name in the West, however — Shadowland. Originally released in arcades in 1987, the game sees you platforming through jigoku (essentially, hell or purgatory) to reach Yama, the Buddhist deity who will determine your final fate. There are five levels to play through, and all of them are based on different regions within jigoku. You can fire spirit energy bullets — ki — at your enemies and run and jump your way through each level. Shadowland truly embraces its mythology and Buddhist inspirations. Gorgeous Switch-Bound Metroidvania 'Afterimage' Smashes Kickstarter Goal Posted: 27 Apr 2022 03:30 AM PDT By over 600%. And today, the company has announced that they have smashed their target by over 600%. Aurogon Shanghai aimed to hit $117,384 HKD ($14,978 USD) but that target was surpassed within 40 hours of the Kickstarter launching. Today, the final total sits at $729,949 HKD, which is over $92,000 USD! Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Nintendo Shares Advice For Those Suffering Switch Battery Issues Posted: 26 Apr 2022 02:00 PM PDT Pretty simple, really. In recent months some Switch owners (notably with relatively new OLED models) have been highlighting issues with their system's battery. An example of the problem would be the battery draining rapidly overnight when the console's in sleep mode, or potentially having less stamina than normal during gameplay. Nintendo's official customer service department has now shared a set of steps (in Japanese), which are rather basic but worth following if your battery is draining unexpectedly. Below are the translated steps. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

If you're a fan of extremely cute story-led management adventure games, you'll likely have Bear and Breakfast on your radar — you play as the titular bear, Hank, running the titular "and breakfast", which is short for "bed and breakfast", which is a type of cosy hotel that offers a bed, plus food. In this new gameplay video, one of the developers of the game, Rares Cinteza, speaks to Game Informer about where the idea came from (playing Theme Hospital as a kid) and what you can expect from the game itself.
