Smash-Style Brawler Rivals Of Aether Is Getting A Sequel With 3D Graphics, Launching In 2024 Posted: 02 Apr 2022 10:00 PM PDT Dungeons of Aether also announced. If you were a fan of Dan Fornace's Smash-like 2D fighter Rivals of Aether, you might want to keep an eye out for Aether Studios' next project Rivals 2. It's a 3D-style sequel to the original game and is currently targeting a 2024 release. At the moment, no systems have been confirmed, but the aim is to release it on as many platforms as possible. While competitive play will be the main focus during development, the team says it's laying the foundations to create an "amazing single player" experience. As for the mechanics, the second game will be taking inspiration from other platform fighters by introducing shields, grabs and ledges. Many of the same mechanics will also be returning. You can learn more on the official Rivals 2 FAQ page. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Japanese publisher City Connection has announced it will be bringing Layer Section & Galactic Attack S-Tribute to the Nintendo Switch eShop and multiple other platforms on 28th April. It follows on from a rating earlier this year in February. Layer Section is a 1995 home console port of the Taito arcade shoot 'em up RayForce. The updated game on Switch combines the home console Sega Saturn version with the international release (known as Galactic Attack). It includes music enhancements, quality of life features like rewind and slow functions, along with quick save. Adding to this is a new online ranking mode and the ability to change difficulty settings. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Kirby And The Forgotten Land Is Apparently Japan's "Biggest" Kirby Launch Ever Posted: 02 Apr 2022 08:00 AM PDT It's outperformed Kirby Super Star Ultra on DS. Earlier this week, we found out Kirby and the Forgotten Land had become the biggest Kirby launch ever in the UK. Now, in related news - the game has been crowned the "biggest" Kirby launch in Japan. As highlighted in Japan's Famitsu sales charts this week, the new Kirby game managed to take out the top spot as the best-selling release of the week. It's sold 380,060 copies - outperforming titles like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokémon Legends: Arceus and even FromSoftware's hit Elden Ring. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Mini Review: A Memoir Blue - Annapurna's Latest Is Short But Just Not Sweet Enough Posted: 02 Apr 2022 06:00 AM PDT Front crawl, back stroke, ego stroke. We'd be lying if we pretended we hadn't experienced impressive games published by Annapurna Interactive in the past; What Remains of Edith Finch, Outer Wilds, and Sayonara Wild Hearts are just scratching the surface of the critically acclaimed titles that have passed through their avowed art-game doors. The hit factory though, such as it is, seems to be on a bit of a stumble lately. The hotly-anticipated Twelve Minutes was the dampest of damp squibs, your mileage will absolutely vary with The Artful Escape and now we've got A Memoir Blue, a "interactive poem" (red flag emoji) about a competitive swimmer's relationship with her mother. Is that too cynical? Perhaps. We fear that these introspective games — while certainly having their place in this enormous, diverse, joyous hobby — need to offer a little more meat on the bone to be truly worthwhile. And we don't mean in their core gameplay, necessarily; storywise, this is a flaccid experience, on top of being mechanically uninteresting. We can forgive one, but not both. Guide: Best Nintendo Switch 3D Platformers Posted: 02 Apr 2022 04:00 AM PDT Workin' the Z-axis. Updated with new entries. Enjoy! Ah, the 3D platformer. Ever since Super Mario 64 landed and showed everyone just how good three-dimensional platforming could be there have been developers hoping to capture just a smidgen of that game's magic. It was a tough act to follow, even for the plumber himself, but his bespoke Switch outing finds him at the very top of his game. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 2nd) Posted: 02 Apr 2022 02:00 AM PDT It's April already?! It's the weekend - hooray! We hope you've all managed to get through April Fools' Day in one piece. It's been another week of bombshells, with possibly the biggest news being something we all *kinda* expected but didn't want to admit, and that's the news of Breath of the Wild 2 being delayed into 2023. We also got three new games for the Nintendo Switch Online service, which was a delightful surprise. Finally, we all predicted it, and it was confirmed that E3 2022 has been cancelled, with no in-person or digital event taking place. Now it's time to chill out and discuss our weekend gaming plans. A few members of the Nintendo Life team have done just that below, so feel free to give our entries a read and then join in with your own via our comment section. Enjoy!
