PSA: You Might Not Need To Unbox The New Smash Bros. amiibo To Use It

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 09:45 PM PDT

See for yourself.

As you've probably seen, the new Min Min Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo is now available in-store. If you are planning on adding this one to your collection, here's your PSA that this new amiibo based on the fighter from the ARMS series might not actually need to be unboxed to be used.

As highlighted by a user (with a North American Min Min model) on the amiibo subreddit, this new amiibo's packaging may not have an "NFC blocker tag", which prevents Nintendo fans from scanning the NFC figure while it's still inside the box.

Former Nintendo Of America Boss Reggie To Appear On G4TV Next Week

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:30 PM PDT

"As an executive, I hated Donkey Konga".

The former Nintendo of America president, Reggie Fils-Aimé, is currently doing the rounds online to promote his new book Disrupting the Game. If you thought you've heard everything he's had to say, perhaps not.

In a new teaser (that lacks context and is clearly poking fun) for an upcoming G4TV XPlay interview, Reggie can be seen answering some hard-hitting questions. We do hear him say a little bit in this short time frame, but possibly the most shocking (and hilarious) line is the following: "As an executive, I hated Donkey Konga."

Deal In "Fleshly Wares" In Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, Out Now On Switch

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 12:00 PM PDT

With a physical release coming later.

Strange Scaffold's hit indie title Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator launched on PC and Xbox via Game Pass last December. However, in a surprise move, the developer has announced that its organ trading sim is out right now on Nintendo Switch. Well, that's the quickest deal we've seen in a while!

With a name like Space Warlord Organ Trading Simulator, you can tell this is going to be something very different. You are an organ trader who makes profits from body parts. Throughout space, you'll be trading and selling with unusual clients such as a mysterious astronaut-looking dude named Quartermaster, a fungus (maybe?) called Farmer Popkin, and "legally not a dog" Chad Shakespeare, who looks like a dog.

Mini Review: Waifu Impact - Single-Player 'Fortnite With Fan Service', Minus The Fun

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 10:00 AM PDT

Sometimes fan service just isn't enough.

When something becomes popular enough, it is bound to attract imitators. Sometimes those imitators will smash as many different genres together to try to capitalise on multiple other games' popularity. In the case of Waifu Impact, the developers took the principles that have made Fortnite a bewildering success and combined them with a healthy dose of fan service to attract players, plus a lick of Genshin Impact-style presentation. There's nothing wrong with taking what has been popular in the past and serving it up in a new way; players sometimes need a little familiarity to help them settle into a new game. However, a high level of polish is required, and with Waifu Impact that polish just isn't there. Even worse than awkward and clunky gameplay, it simply isn't fun.

Waifu Impact sees players dropped onto glorious 'Waifu Island', a place visited nightly in the dreams of many; a tropical paradise hosting cute girls running around shooting each other with water guns. It is the basic premise that we saw in Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash, but with stripped-back features. Instead of different teams vying for control of the arena, it is a free-for-all against the AI-controlled enemies who all look and play the exact same. Instead of the barely contained chaos, with action coming at you from every angle — the things that make other arena shooters fun to play — this feels like a slog.

Gallery: Take A Look At The Official Pokémon GO Trading Card Game Expansion

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:45 AM PDT

Go on, have a nose!

The Pokémon GO expansion for the hugely popular Pokémon Trading Card Game is out this July, and we've listed all of the sets that you'll be able to pick up when the new cards drop. But yesterday, The Pokémon Company gave us a little look at some of the upcoming cards themselves and, as is to be expected with Pokémon cards, they look decidedly lovely.

The are on these cards puts many different Pokémon in real-life settings, as if you were finding them while playing Pokémon GO. Though we'd be pretty terrified if a life-sized Gyarados was rampaging through our streets with that much water in real life — that could cause a flood!

Feature: What's Your Biggest Nintendo Launch Day Regret?

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:00 AM PDT

Regrets, we've had a few.

There are few moments more exciting than a console launch, especially for a whole new generation. Objectively speaking it's not the best time for a system - the pricing of everything is at its peak, there won't be many games, and early titles may also struggle to fully show off the technology. Yet the buzz is captivating, and nabbing a launch date console, handheld or Switch-like hybrid on launch day is a special time for plenty of us passionate gamers.

All of the excitement can impair judgement, though, or sometimes the hype falls flat once you've settled down to actually play games. You might spend hundreds of pounds / dollars / euros / whatever and think "oh no, I've made a mistake".

Fans Have Created Their Own Metroid 64, And It Looks Incredible

Posted: 29 Apr 2022 02:30 AM PDT

What could have been.

The Metroid series famously skipped the Nintendo 64 back in the '90s. The "lost game" Metroid 64 was never in development, with Super Metroid director Yoshio Sakamoto saying that he "couldn't imagine" how Samus would move around a 3D environment with the N64 controller. We only ever got to see and play as Samus in the very first Super Smash Bros. on the console, and that just feels wrong!

Despite offering the opportunity to an outside studio, it couldn't come up with an idea for the 64-bit console. Alas, we had to wait until 2002, when we would get two Metroid games within a day of each other — Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion.

Publisher CFK has showcased a brand new trailer for the upcoming remaster of Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony. Originally launched in 2009 for Windows platforms, the game is heavily influenced by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but also injects plenty of 'Touhou' bullet-hell style gameplay for good measure.

Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony is due for launch worldwide on July 28th, 2022. Japan will be getting a fancy physical edition, but since the Japanese release will feature English language support, it may well be worth an import if you're a fan of the original release.

It's Official, Knuckles Is Now A VTuber

Posted: 28 Apr 2022 05:55 PM PDT

Amy has also been teased.

One of the ways Sega celebrated 30 years of Sonic the Hedgehog last year was by transforming the blue blur into a VTuber. This was followed by his lovable sidekick Tails receiving the same treatment and now it's Knuckles' time to shine.

Yes, that's right - in another official Sonic livestream in Japan, Knuckles has made his debut as a VTuber - delivering a message alongside Sonic. It seems like the perfect time, considering how much success Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (featuring Knuckles) has had at the box office.
