Gallery: Take A Look At The Official Pokémon GO Trading Card Game Expansion Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:45 AM PDT Go on, have a nose! The Pokémon GO expansion for the hugely popular Pokémon Trading Card Game is out this July, and we've listed all of the sets that you'll be able to pick up when the new cards drop. But yesterday, The Pokémon Company gave us a little look at some of the upcoming cards themselves and, as is to be expected with Pokémon cards, they look decidedly lovely. The are on these cards puts many different Pokémon in real-life settings, as if you were finding them while playing Pokémon GO. Though we'd be pretty terrified if a life-sized Gyarados was rampaging through our streets with that much water in real life — that could cause a flood! Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Feature: What's Your Biggest Nintendo Launch Day Regret? Posted: 29 Apr 2022 06:00 AM PDT Regrets, we've had a few. There are few moments more exciting than a console launch, especially for a whole new generation. Objectively speaking it's not the best time for a system - the pricing of everything is at its peak, there won't be many games, and early titles may also struggle to fully show off the technology. Yet the buzz is captivating, and nabbing a launch date console, handheld or Switch-like hybrid on launch day is a special time for plenty of us passionate gamers. All of the excitement can impair judgement, though, or sometimes the hype falls flat once you've settled down to actually play games. You might spend hundreds of pounds / dollars / euros / whatever and think "oh no, I've made a mistake". Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Fans Have Created Their Own Metroid 64, And It Looks Incredible Posted: 29 Apr 2022 02:30 AM PDT What could have been. The Metroid series famously skipped the Nintendo 64 back in the '90s. The "lost game" Metroid 64 was never in development, with Super Metroid director Yoshio Sakamoto saying that he "couldn't imagine" how Samus would move around a 3D environment with the N64 controller. We only ever got to see and play as Samus in the very first Super Smash Bros. on the console, and that just feels wrong! Despite offering the opportunity to an outside studio, it couldn't come up with an idea for the 64-bit console. Alas, we had to wait until 2002, when we would get two Metroid games within a day of each other — Metroid Prime and Metroid Fusion. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Originally launched in 2009 for Windows platforms, the game is heavily influenced by Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, but also injects plenty of 'Touhou' bullet-hell style gameplay for good measure. Koumajou Remilia: Scarlet Symphony is due for launch worldwide on July 28th, 2022. Japan will be getting a fancy physical edition, but since the Japanese release will feature English language support, it may well be worth an import if you're a fan of the original release. Sega of America's social media manager, Katie Chrzanowski, has touched on this once again in the latest Sonic Official YouTube livestream - reiterating how a physical release currently isn't planned right now. The good news is the team (we guess that's Sega) is "aware" of the demand for a physical version. Fingers crossed. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
It's Official, Knuckles Is Now A VTuber Posted: 28 Apr 2022 05:55 PM PDT Amy has also been teased. One of the ways Sega celebrated 30 years of Sonic the Hedgehog last year was by transforming the blue blur into a VTuber. This was followed by his lovable sidekick Tails receiving the same treatment and now it's Knuckles' time to shine. Yes, that's right - in another official Sonic livestream in Japan, Knuckles has made his debut as a VTuber - delivering a message alongside Sonic. It seems like the perfect time, considering how much success Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (featuring Knuckles) has had at the box office. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Digital Foundry Explores Whether 'Impossible Port' WRC 10 Stays On Track On Switch Posted: 28 Apr 2022 01:00 PM PDT "Is it really that bad?". The Switch is home to a number of fascinating ports, including some considered 'impossible' that nevertheless hold up well on the system - high quality examples include DOOM (2016) and The Witcher 3. There are some games where it's tough to decide whether the port is worth the sacrifices, with one example perhaps being WRC 10. The officially licensed rallying game is impressive in some ways, such as the complexities of a rally-sim converting well onto the Switch. In our own review we were pleased with the driving mechanics and the sheer depth of content, but in terms of visuals we said that "WRC 10 looks noticeably worse than its already ugly predecessor", and in portable mode at times it had a framerate "rougher than a cheese grater made of sandpaper". Yet, despite that, if you can live with the flaws it's impressive it's on Switch at all. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Mini Review: Arise: A Simple Story - An Audiovisual Treat With Emotive, Elegant Storytelling Posted: 28 Apr 2022 12:00 PM PDT Arise and shine. Is a platform game a good medium in which to tell a story of agonising tragedy? When the tears fall on the joysticks, is it appropriate to say, "Now, jump from there to there"? It's hard to see how it wouldn't be insensitive, after a heart-rending calamity, to chime in, "Chin up! Swing on your grappling hook over that lava pit." With Arise: A Simple Story, developer Piccolo took on this seemingly intractable problem and delivered a very simple solution. Arise, released on PC and consoles in 2019, is a story told without words. However, it bucks the trend of a vague-so-probably-profound story and provides straight-up plot and character development. It draws on visual art and music in themed levels, some static illustrations, short cutscenes, and – without expecting it to tell a whole story on its own – platforming gameplay with a time-control mechanic. City Builder 'As Far As The Eye' Is A Nomadic Roguelike Take On 'Civilization' Posted: 28 Apr 2022 11:00 AM PDT And you can start building today on Switch. Developer Unexpected's reflective, Nomadic take on the city building genre As Far As The Eye launches today on the Switch. Published by Goblinz Publishing, the game's warm colour palette and soothing music might lull you into a false sense of security, as you have to build and maintain a mobile village while avoiding the rising waters. The game released on mobile and PC via Steam and GOG back in 2020, and this release marks the game's debut on consoles. Taking inspiration from the Civilization series, you must help guide the Pupils to the centre of their world, called the Eye. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

We've got the sales figures from the latest Famitsu Japanese charts, and during the week of 18th - 24th April, Kirby and the Forgotten Land was dethroned by a double-assault from eBaseball Powerful Pro Baseball 2022. The latest entry in the hugely popular eBaseball series smashed the competition to sell a total of 147,263 retail copies between the Switch and PS4 releases, with the Nintendo version selling a whopping 92,724 units alone. Kirby is still in a pretty healthy place — another 29,281 sales have helped push the pink puffball well over 600,000 sales in Japan alone, which is really impressive. Memory Pak: The Best And Most Chaotic Way To Play Puyo Puyo Tetris Posted: 28 Apr 2022 10:00 AM PDT Pi pi pi pi! PI PIIII. Today, Puyo Puyo Tetris turns five years old. I think that maybe very few people will care about this — it's just Tetris with more colours and annoying characters, really — but for me, Puyo Puyo Tetris was the foundation upon which my current relationship was built. Come back in time with me to 2017, and I'll tell you a story of love, tetrominoes, and one talkative egg... In March 2017, the Nintendo Switch came out. As I've written about before, I was travelling the world at the time, and it became almost as important to me during that period as my passport. In April 2017, Puyo Puyo Tetris came out, combining the massively-successful Japanese arcade game Puyo Puyo with the massively-successful Tetris game, Tetris. Several new characters were created for the game, who were all based on tetrominoes — Tee, Ess, Ai, Jay, Elle, and so on — but the most important of all is O.
