This free fangame blends Hotline Miami with Team Fortress 2 Posted: 23 Jul 2022 03:08 PM PDT ![]() Hotline Miami inspired a lot of topdown, ultraviolent copycats, most of which failed to replicate its propulsive action. Midnight Mercenaries does it better than most - while also being a free fangame that mixes that Hotline Miami structure with characters and weaponry from Team Fortress 2. |
Ex-Zodiac is heavily Star Fox-inspired and out in early access now Posted: 23 Jul 2022 02:37 PM PDT ![]() Last year, the demo for Ex-Zodiac offered a sugar rush of Star Fox-inspired checkboard floors, glowing weak spots, and hibber-jibber radio chatter. Now Ex-Zodiac has entered early access, and it looks like it's got more going on than straight homage. Fox McCloud never rode a motorbike, for one. |
Hytale devs are redeveloping its engine, say no release in 2023 Posted: 23 Jul 2022 02:19 PM PDT ![]() The developers of blocky survival and construction game Hytale say they've made the decision to "redevelop" its engine. In a lengthy development update, they say the switch should make it easier to patch and maintain the game after release, among other benefits. They also show off some fancy creator tools, and say Hytale won't release in 2023. |
Marvel's Midnight Suns new trailer explains how to make Spider-Man from a deck of cards Posted: 23 Jul 2022 12:43 PM PDT ![]() I've been experiencing Marvel fatigue for, oh, around seven years now. To compensate, I decided to watch Marvel's Midnight Suns latest trailer while pretending it wasn't about Marvel superheroes, but just a Firaxis-made tactics game with character classes who have wildly divergent skillsets. The video focuses on the spider-powered class - and heck, it does look pretty cool. |
What are we all playing this weekend? Posted: 23 Jul 2022 01:00 AM PDT ![]() It feels like Not-E3 only just ended and suddenly my inbox is full of Gamescom? We're going to need to rethink this 'time' thing. Yet I cannot escape time because I must ask: what are you playing this weekend? Here's what we're clicking on! |
Fortnite taunts us all with the No Sweat Summer event Posted: 22 Jul 2022 09:35 AM PDT ![]() It’s fair to say that this hasn’t been the coolest week on record in many places around the world, so I’m giving Fortnite the side-eye for the No Sweat Summer event that’s running until August 9th. It’s a bit daft, as you’d expect from Epic Games’ battle royale by this point. You’ll get the opportunity to boogie down, race boats and help rebuild Tilted Towers. Watch the trailer below and marvel at how they can all dance without keeling over. |
Ultimate Audio Bang #22: have shooters become too demanding? Posted: 22 Jul 2022 09:00 AM PDT ![]() On this week's episode of the Ultimate Audio Bang, we turn our attention to shooters and their demands. They all want our undivided attention and for Hayden and I, it's fast becoming a bit much. Believe it or not, we're adults with clothes to fold and ovens to pre-heat! Daily quests and inane challenges aren't bringing us back, if anything, they're beginning to drive us away. |
Lady Dimitrescu is coming to Resident Evil Village's Mercenaries mode Posted: 22 Jul 2022 08:59 AM PDT ![]() There’s so many dodgy things I could say about Resident Evil Village’s upcoming DLC’s The Mercenaries Additional Orders mode and its inclusion of a playable Lady Dimitrescu, along with magnetic Nic Cage wannabe Karl Heisenberg and perennial favourite Chris Redfield. Instead, I’ll be a nice lad and keep shtum. Aside from the extra characters, Additional Orders brings more stages and some other improvements to Mercenaries that Capcom haven’t elaborated on. Watch the trailer for it below and imagine being inside Lady D. Oh crap. |
Bicycle commuting in PUBG is fun, silly, and sometimes even smart Posted: 22 Jul 2022 08:56 AM PDT ![]() Cycling in video games leans towards the extreme and the exciting: bombing downhill at murderous speeds, professional racing, treasure hunt, and such. I'd like to see more of the mundane too. For many adults, a bicycle is simply a way to get to work, to the shops, or to see your pals. So after battle royale shooter PUBG: Battlegrounds added bicycles, I decided to commute around the stag & hen weekend warzones by bike as much as possible. |
I am not good at The Final Earth 2 Posted: 22 Jul 2022 08:36 AM PDT ![]() I like a building game that doesn't need constant babysitting. I also like one where you get to be a bit creative and build according to your whims as much as to necessity. The Final Earth 2 is an ant farm kind of game that places very few limits on what you can build where, and lets you cheaply restructure as needed even if you mess it up. The idea is you build vertically, with each building taking up a block, and your people freely travelling through all of them to get to work or home or the pub. Everyone else who plays it seems to build enormous, elaborate, impressively well organised structures that are even kind of beautiful. I build a random pile of crap. I am absolutely rubbish at it. |
This horror game challenges you to beat and refund it in under 2 hours Posted: 22 Jul 2022 07:56 AM PDT ![]() A new indie horror game released today has challenged players to beat it within Steam's two-hour window to claim a refund. Creatively styled Refund Me If You Can, the game puts you in the unenviable shoes of Sarah as she tries to evade monsters in her nightmare and escape a darkened maze. If you did take up the challenge like RPS vid-bud Liam did then you’d have two hours to beat the game, and two weeks from purchase to claim your refund. It didn't go well for Liam, as you can see in the video below. |
The Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 series and the problem with leaks Posted: 22 Jul 2022 07:21 AM PDT It’s kind of remarkable how little we really know about Nvidia’s next gaming graphics cards, the RTX 40 series. AMD are openly working on next-gen, RDNA 3-based Radeon GPUs, and Intel are gearing up for the full launch of their Arc Alchemist cards before the end of summer – yet there’s not been so much as a single presentation slide on Nvidia’s wares. Not the kind of hype-building you’d expect, given how many of the current generation’s best graphics cards have GeForce badges. Arriving to fill that info void are, inevitably, leaks. If you don’t regularly hang out in PC hardware circles, know that there’s a veritable cottage industry of in-the-know insiders: anonymous but widely known tipsters like Greymon55 and kopite7kimi, who’ve shared enough accurate details on previous GPU and CPU launches that at least some of their sources are solid. Recently, unannounced Nvidia cards like the RTX 4070, RTX 4080 and especially the RTX 4090 have become this industry’s hottest commodities, meaning leakers are also the primary source of GeForce details for the gaming tech world at large. |
AI-generated Baldur's Gate character portraits put players' to shame Posted: 22 Jul 2022 07:19 AM PDT ![]() Choosing a character portrait is one of the key decisions to spend hours mulling over in any decent CRPG. That’s why it’s awesome to see someone using the power of publicly accessible AI to generate fantasy mugshots for classic examples of the genre such as Baldur’s Gate. Indie app dev and documentary editor Alex Hay has created some great examples, which he’s shared on Twitter with Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition devs Beamdog and their CEO Trent Oster. |
Sci-fi strategy Phoenix Point sees its final official update for PC Posted: 22 Jul 2022 04:34 AM PDT ![]() X-COM creator Julian Gollop’s turn-based tactics sci-fi strategy Phoenix Point has seen its final official update on PC to coincide with the release of a complete edition of the game. Out now, Phoenix Point: Complete Edition includes all six DLC released to date. You can take a look at everything included in the package by watching the trailer below. |
Naughty Dog detail new The Last of Us remake features trailer after "disheartening" leaks Posted: 22 Jul 2022 02:27 AM PDT ![]() A new video revealing more details about what to expect from The Last Of Us Part 1 remake has been shared by developers Naughty Dog following what some of their senior staff call “disheartening and frustrating” leaks. The video shows off new modes coming with the remake, such as speedrun mode and the brutal permadeath, along with more sophisticated AI for NPCs. You can watch the ten-minute video for yourself below. |
