Hitman 3 Recovers Its Development Costs Within A Week

Posted: 28 Jan 2021 02:00 AM PST

Excellent work, 47.

Hitman 3's been out for just over a week and, no pun intended, it's been quite the hit.

Whilst Switch owners received a Cloud Version of the game, we still thought highly of Agent 47's latest adventure, and it successfully topped the UK Charts last week. As a result, it isn't too surprising that IO Interactive's stealth sandbox game has already reclaimed their development costs within the space of a week. The news comes from GamesIndustry.biz, who got to speak with IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak.

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 04:55 PM PST

Purrfect!

While we sort of already know what to expect from amiibo functionality in Nintendo Switch games nowadays, it's always nice to know exactly what will happen when they're scanned in a certain game.

In the case of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, it's a game divided into two different adventures.

Resetti Finally Makes An Appearance In New Horizons, But Only As An In-Game Item

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 01:00 PM PST

Before you turn the power off, SAVE! You gotta SAVE!

Life has been far too quiet without our favouritest angry mole yelling at us about resetting our copy of Animal Crossing. Mr Resetti no longer lives in our town, in his underground lair or otherwise, except for the likely possibility that he's the chap running the rescue service (a theory recently proved on Reddit).

In a tweet today, Nintendo revealed some of the new items that will be added to the game with the latest update, including a bunch of stuff to celebrate the "big game" (which appears to be American Football, and not the Premier League final) as well as an adorable Resetti figurine to place on top of a table.

Modders Just Made It Possible To Play Skyward Sword Inside Breath Of The Wild

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 12:30 PM PST

Forget Lynels, it's all about Groose now.

We miss Skyloft. Out of all the towns Link's ever lived in, it sure was the floatiest. Breath of the Wild modder Waikuteru - who you may remember from the revamp of Link's House, turning it from "rubbish shack" into "actually functional domicile", or their discovery of an unused shrine - has just had a breakthrough, and it involves everyone's favourite motion-based Zelda game.

In a new video, Waikuteru shows off how modders can actually edit the overworld in Breath of the Wild, which could mean... anything, really. Make a DOOM level in Hyrule. Build a café, and invite all your favourite horses. Create a twenty-foot statue of Link picking his nose. The possibilities are endless!

What Exactly Is Going On With GameStop's Stock Prices?

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 12:00 PM PST

People are making millions of dollars because of a Reddit meme.

To cut a long story short, Reddit is trying to bankrupt hedge fund managers for the lols.

Basically, a bunch of investors bet on GameStop stock crashing - which it probably would have done, considering how the chain has been suffering during the pandemic and, in the longer term, due to increased digital game sales. They did something called a "short call option", which is, to put it way more simply than it actually is, agreeing to sell your shares at a fixed price within a given time frame.

Point-And-Click Adventure Willy Morgan And The Curse Of Bone Town Comes To Switch Soon

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:30 AM PST

The curse will probably be removed by sticking chewing gum to cat hair.

It's a great day for fans of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle, and LucasArts adventures, isn't it? Two new games, announced within hours of one another, have specifically named retro point-and-clicks as their inspiration. It's like we're back in the '90s again!

Willy Morgan and the Curse of Bone Town, a title that somehow got past Nintendo's approval system, is an interactive storytelling game based lovingly on the aesthetic stylings of Monkey Island.

Root Film Is A Murder-Mystery Visual Novel That's Like Ace Attorney, But You Get To Fight People

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST

Phoenix Wright should have been allowed to punch people.

For fans of Ace Attorney, Persona, and Danganronpa - first of all, wow, you really like solving murders, huh? Secondly, Root Film may be just what you need to scratch that murder-itch you've been having lately. Like the rest, it's a visual novel with a huge dollop of spooky goings-on, as you play aspiring filmmaker, Rintaro Yagu, who keeps getting emails saying things like "you're in grave danger!"

In a twist that will probably shock none of you, someone gets brutally murdered, interrupting Rintaro's first shot at being a director. He takes it upon himself to solve the crime, gathering clues, interrogating people, and confronting suspects.

Cyberpunk Meets Noir In The Sundew, A Point-And-Click Adventure Coming To Switch This Summer

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:30 AM PST

It's like Monkey Island, but cyborgs instead of pirates.

Made by a one-woman team based in France, The Sundew is a new point-and-click game in the style of old LucasArts classics. You'll play as a cyborg police officer in Japan named Anna Isobe, living in the dystopian city of Shibukawa where cyborgs - once a symbol of technological possibility and advancement - have become taboo.

The Sundew, which is modelled after retro point-and-click adventures, is presented in detailed pixel-art graphics made entirely by Agnès Vuillaume, the same woman who does the programming, the narrative, and everything else on this game. She's been working on it for several years, founding the studio - 2054 Games - in September last year.

Soapbox: Grinding Is Poor Gameplay Design That Doesn’t Respect Your Time

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST

Who wants to spend hours mowing down low-level enemies?

Soapbox features enable our individual writers to voice their own opinions on hot topics, opinions that may not necessarily be the voice of the site. In this piece, Henry discusses how he's fed up of being ground down by grinding...

We really are spoiled for choice these days and, in part thanks to digital distribution, more games are releasing than we can keep up with. In Europe alone, the eShop had 43 new launches last week. They can't all be winners, but for a traditionally quieter month, we've seen already big names like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Hitman 3 and Cyber Shadow. Factoring in other platforms with big releases like The Medium being added to the infamous "List", there's no wonder most of us have a backlog. Despite this pandemic, many of us still lead busy lives and when we get that chance to sit down with a game, you want to make the most of it.

Review: Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & The Secret Fairy - The Best Game In The Series To Date

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST

On the Ryza.

Hot on the heels of 2019's excellent Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout, developer Gust has wasted absolutely no time in releasing this second epic adventure for Reisalin "Ryza" Stout, a protagonist who's proven so popular with fans that she's the very first since the Atelier series kicked off back in 1997 to get a second crack in a starring role. Far from being any sort of quick cash-in, what we've got here is the twenty-second entry in a long-running franchise that elevates combat, dungeon-crawling and the game's signature alchemy to new heights, while rectifying the previous outing's somewhat sluggish pace with a campaign that hits the ground running.

Taking place just three years after the events of its predecessor, Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends and the Secret Fairy sees Ryza travel from her quiet home on Kurken Island to the bustling city of Asha-Am-Baird where a now grown-up Tao Mongarten requests that she joins him in exploring a series of mysterious alchemy-related ruins. Before leaving for the city, Ryza is gifted a strange glowing rock which promptly reveals itself to be an egg when it hatches a creature known as Fi, who is tied in some strange way to the goings-on at the ancient ruins she must now explore.

EU Calls For Investigation Into Switch Joy-Con Drift Following More Than 25,000 Complaints

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:45 AM PST

"Nintendo must now come up with proper solutions".

Following more than 25,000 complaints from consumers in countries such as France, Portugal, Italy, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia and Greece, the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) has called for Nintendo to properly investigate Joy-Con drift (thanks, Eurogamer).

Acting as the EU's joint consumer programme, the BEUC has submitted its own complaints to the European Commission and national consumer protection authorities throughout Europe, claiming that in most cases (88%, in fact), Joy-Con drift became apparent within the first two years of ownership. The BEUC claims that Nintendo is breaking rules which are in place to prevent "premature obsolescence and misleading omissions of key consumer information".

Official Rabbids Username Tweak Fuels Speculation Over A Mario + Rabbids Sequel

Wishful thinking, or cause for excitement?

Speculation over a potential sequel to 2017's Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle has started to grow online following a social media username change.

As spotted by Reddit user ThemeParkFan2020, the official Rabbids Twitter account, previously '@RabbidsOfficial', has been changed to '@MarioRabbids'. The account is using an image of Rabbid Mario as its profile picture, and while the name change appears to be recent, its most recent Tweet was posted way back in August of last year.

Factor 5 Boss Muses On The Possibility Of A Mario Maker-Style 2D Turrican

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:30 AM PST

"That would really excite me".

Factor 5 studio founder Julian Eggebrecht has been musing over the future of the Turrican series and thinks that a Mario Maker-style approach might be the way forward for new 2D entries in the franchise.

Turrican began life on personal computers before moving over to consoles like the SNES and Mega Drive, and after years of the rights being in limbo, we're finally getting a collection of Turrican titles in the form of Turrican Flashback, which launches on Switch soon.

Hands On: We've Played Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, And Here's What We Think So Far

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:00 AM PST

Cat's entertainment?

When it started to become clear that Nintendo was porting many of its Wii U games to the Switch, a lot of fans naturally hoped that Super Mario 3D World would be one of the games making the jump. It's hard to believe it's taken nearly four years, but we're finally just a matter of weeks away before this much-requested Mario gem gets a second chance at the spotlight, and this time, in the guise of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury, it's packing an extra mode to boot.

For those who missed it the first time around, Super Mario 3D World is the sequel to the brilliant 3DS game Super Mario 3D Land and attempts to build a sort of halfway house between the linear 2D gameplay of the New Super Mario Bros. games, and the more free-roaming 3D gameplay of the likes of Galaxy and Odyssey.

Switch Is Getting Its First NASCAR Game This Year

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 05:15 AM PST

"Both us and NASCAR are excited about that move".

NASCAR games have been notably absent on Nintendo consoles for almost a decade. We last saw it with Activision's NASCAR Unleashed on the Wii and 3DS. Publishing rights have changed hands multiple times but Motorsport Games' recent series, NASCAR Heat, has been excluded from Nintendo platforms.

That's about to change, however, as its has now confirmed NASCAR will arrive on Switch later this year. Speaking about this with Motorsport.com, Motorsport Games CEO Dmitry Kozko teased the news within a brief statement:
