The Yakuza Remastered Collection Hits Xbox Today in Glorious HD

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 04:10 PM PST

The Yakuza Remastered Collection hits Xbox Game Pass today, bringing Sega classics Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 restored in glorious HD to Xbox Game Pass members!

The first of three games in this collection, Yakuza 3, picks up from where the events of Yakuza Kiwami 2 left off (also available on Xbox Game Pass). But for those just swearing into the family, the games provide just the right amount of context recapping key events. If you've recently played Yakuza: Like a Dragon, this is your opportunity to experience Kamurocho through the eyes of the Dragon of Dojima.

Yakuza Remastered Collection

The Yakuza titles in this collection are all brutal and flashy action brawler games. Master several martial arts, weapons, and savage Heat Actions that reward quick reactions with big damage and over-the-top moves! Resourceful fighters can weaponize their surroundings, swinging bicycles in the streets or luxury furniture when you storm a yakuza headquarters uninvited.

Yakuza Remastered Collection

Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 (all available with Xbox Game Pass) follow individual stories within the saga of Kazuma Kiryu — a steely yakuza with an indomitable spirit and heart of gold — as he navigates the complex politics of the Japanese underworld and the action, betrayal, and tragedy that follow. From the Tojo Clan's home turf in Tokyo to the tropical retreat of Okinawa, Kiryu will travel all over Japan as conflict unfolds.

Yakuza Remastered Collection

Here's what you're getting into:

  • Yakuza 3: His heart at peace, Kazuma Kiryu leaves his yakuza life behind to settle into running an orphanage on the breezy and idyllic Okinawa coast. But when the land that it's on becomes a dispute between politicians, the local gangs, and the Tojo Clan, Kiryu's past rears its ugly head, and he will have to choose a side.
  • Yakuza 4: In the absence of the Dragon of Dojima, Kamurocho becomes a jungle without a king, and a power struggle brewing behind the scenes ever since an infamous hit job in 1984 boils to the surface. Witness events through the eyes of Shun Akiyama, a loan shark known as the "Lifeline of Kamurocho," Taiga Saejima, who must escape from prison to confront his past, Masayoshi Tanimura, a cop on the wrong side of the law, and Kazuma Kiryu, who finds himself embroiled in the events that shaped his present-day life.
  • Yakuza 5: The Omi Alliance is on the verge of a war of succession, and to prevent it, Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan, Daigo Dojima, seeks to unify the yakuza from around Japan. The echoes of this underground power struggle reach five playable characters: Kazuma Kiryu, who is laying low in Fukuoka as a taxi driver, Taiga Saejima, who returns to prison to finish what he started, Shun Akiyama, who lends money to a client that is more than meets the eye, Haruka Sawamura, who dreams of becoming an idol, and Tatsuo Shinada, a disgraced baseball star who finds himself in over his head. Five characters, five cities, and five dreams converge in an explosive conclusion.
Yakuza Remastered Collection

Of course, there’s more to yakuza life than fisticuffs. With Kiryu, you will explore real-world Japanese cities faithfully recreated in detail, play zany mini-games, and help citizens in sub stories, who in turn may help Kiryu in unexpected ways.

Yakuza Remastered Collection

Ready to pledge your loyalty to the family? Head to your console's dashboard and download the Yakuza Remastered Collection today for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S! Yakuza 3, 4, and 5 are also available individually for Xbox Game Pass members. In addition, prequels Yakuza 0, Yakuza Kiwami, and Yakuza Kiwami 2 are also on Xbox Game Pass for those that want to start at the beginning.

Dead Cells: Fatal Falls DLC Available Now on Xbox One

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST

Hey everyone,

We're back with our second paid DLC for Dead Cells and we're super proud of what we've pulled together! I wanted to talk a little bit about why we've chosen to continue with our "outdoorsy" theme and what you can expect to come up against in our latest installment.

Back when we started work on our first paid DLC The Bad Seed we sat around the whiteboard and thought about what was missing from Dead Cells. Someone said something flippant like "fresh air" and we went from there.

Dead Cells: Fatal Falls DLC

Both that first DLC and Fatal Falls are designed to bring a bit of fresh air into the world that was previously mostly contained to claustrophobic dungeon-like levels. We've brought in more color, more verticality and more danger of falling to your death.

Fatal Falls in particular focuses a lot on managing your positioning when you're moving through the levels. Should you really go and fight that huge statue monster where there are a bunch of kamikaze birds threatening to push you off the platform? Should you rush in to a complicated fight without a clear escape path free of traps? These are the questions that we hope you'll be asking yourself as you play through the new content.

Dead Cells: Fatal Falls DLC

Right now you can take on two new levels and a boss:

  • Fractured Shrines: Features floating platforms, spear-chucking snakemen, and giant statues that have forgotten they're statues.
  • Forgotten Shores: Necromantic sorcerers bringing failed experiments back to like… Impromptu games of tennis under the pouring rain… And of course the constant risk of falling off the cliff.
  • The Scarecrow: Formerly known as the Royal Gardener. He's very protective of his flowers… It'd be a real shame is someone were to… Step on them…

As you can see not only did we stay outdoors but we've tried to stay in line with our nature/water themes. There's some hidden logic to this, which hopefully will become clear as we continue to update the game.

At the end of the day it's also just an excuse for our artists to use a bunch of brighter colors that can be hard to use in underground levels, so that's also a lot of fun for them.

Feel free to come by our official Xbox Club, Discord server, or social media channel and ask any questions you might have about what we're up to.

We hope you enjoy the DLC and the new little animated trailer we've released, as usual this will keep us chugging away on all of the free updates that we've got planned for the game.

Thanks for your support and have a good one!

Inside Xbox Series X|S Optimized: Rogue Company

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 10:00 AM PST

One of the biggest benefits of all the power in the Xbox Series X|S is giving developers the ability to make games that are Xbox Series X|S Optimized. This means that they've taken full advantage of the unique capabilities of Xbox Series X|S, both for new titles built natively using the Xbox Series X|S development environment as well as previously released titles that have been rebuilt specifically for the console. In our Inside Xbox Series X Optimized series, these creators will share the behind-the-scenes accounts of how they're optimizing their titles for Xbox Series X|S and what that means for the future of gaming. Today, we'll be chatting with Scott Lussier, Lead Designer, First Watch Games about optimizing Rogue Company for Xbox Series X|S.

Q: What excites you most about developing and bringing Rogue Company to life on next-generation hardware?

A: We are excited to bring 120 FPS gameplay, short loads, cross play and cross progression to Rogue Company players on Xbox Series X|S. The fast paced tactical-action combat of Rogue Company is best played on a lightning-fast next gen system like Xbox Series X|S.

Q: In addition to benefiting from the power and performance of Xbox Series X|S for quicker load times etc. what Xbox Series X|S features were you most excited to explore leveraging in the development of Rogue Company?

A: We love how Xbox Series X|S sets our players up to capture and share their top clips from Rogue Company.

Q: How will these enhancements impact a player's experience with Rogue Company?

A: Our goal, as a company whose main focus is cross play and cross progression, is equaling the playing field. 120 FPS in a shooter gives the Xbox player equal footing against PC players in combat.

Q: Why did your development team choose to focus on improved graphics and frame rate modes as enhancement areas for Rogue Company?

A: In a fast-paced action game like Rogue Company being able to clearly spot the competition is crucial to success. The improved graphics and frame rate modes help our players have the crispest visual experience to flex their skills.

Q: How do you expect fans of Rogue Company will respond to playing it on Xbox Series X|S with these enhancements?

A: So far, we have seen an outpouring of enthusiasm from our fans when playing Rogue Company on Xbox Series X|S. In my personal experience the 120 FPS and enhanced graphics make my gameplay sessions buttery smooth. I'm certain that it's me, not the hardware that is resulting in my losses.

Q: What is it like developing on Xbox Series X|S?

A: Developing Rogue Company natively for Xbox Series X|S has been a rewarding experience. Getting the opportunity to imagine Rogue Company at an even higher performance level and see it in action has been a real treat. The best part was taking the base code straight to the Xbox Series X|S dev kit and it is already running more performant without any code change. From there it was just a matter of tweaking the code base vs. a full rewrite.

Q: Which enhancement were you most excited about to explore leveraging for Rogue Company on Xbox Series X|S?

A: For an action-based shooter game being able to deliver an enhanced graphics experience AND 120FPS gameplay is an absolute dream. So often, shooter players have to choose between great looking games and high frame rates – we are excited to not have to compromise on the Xbox Series X|S.

Q: What does Smart Delivery mean for your game and how you're bringing Rogue Company to fans?

A: We love the fact that Smart Delivery ensures consumer get the right product for their hardware so it runs performantly regardless of where you are playing.

Q: What does Xbox Series X|S development enable in current or future projects that you could not have achieved with the previous generation of consoles?"

A: Gaming is about community and bringing everyone together regardless of the hardware they are playing on. As a multiplayer focused company we are excited to ensure that our console audience feels like they can compete at the same level as the highest end PCs which is why we are excited that Rogue Company is running at 4k resolution and 120 FPS. As we explore additional features in 2021 and beyond we hope to also bring RTRT (real time ray tracing) and other high end features to Xbox so all our users can experience the same amazing visual as well.

The Dawn of Babylon is here in Smite Season 8

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST

Announced during the Hi-Rez Showcase, Season 8 brings a larger, more strategic map for Smite's core Conquest mode. The new map is resplendent in Babylonaian architecture — the work of Tiamat reshaping the world. And it features new gameplay mechanics, like base gates and scorpion monsters. Best of all: For the first time ever, this Conquest map will be living – players can expect the map to change quarterly throughout the season.

Smite Season 8

The other major highlight of Season 8 is a complete revamp of the Starter Item system. Some old favorite items like Death's Toll and Bluestone Pendant make their return, alongside new items like War Flag. Even better: Each of the 16 new starter items can be upgraded into one of two unique forms once reaching level 20; will your Sands of Time become the Pendulum of Ages, granting more mana and power, or The Alternate Timeline, giving you a second life?

If you're worried about being overwhelmed by the new map and items, don't worry: An all-new guided role system helps you learn to play Conquest while you're playing, and an improved automatic purchasing system ensures you're buying the right items. We believe that the best time to hop into Smite is right now!

Smite Season 8

What to make sure that you don't miss out on Season 8 content? The Season Pass 2021 has you covered. You'll get all of the following incredible content for each Season 8 god as they are released in 2021: Voice Pack, Limited Ascended Skin, Additional Tier 1 Skin, Emotes (Wave and Clap.) Plus: Instantly unlock three cosmetics you can only get in the Season Pass: The Limited Grand Magus Anubis Skin, Grand Magus Loading Screen, and the Tyrant Title. As a special bonus, you'll also receive 1000 Gems to spend on in-game. If you don't own the God Pack, you'll also unlock all new Season 8 Gods.

Smite Season 8

Also in this update: The heist is on with the Most Wanted Battle Pass. Unlock Safe Breaker Kali when you purchase the Premium Most Wanted Battle Pass in-game for 600 Gems. Then, earn Battle Points while playing Smite to unlock more incredible content such as Bunny Bomber Aphrodite and Mastermind Yemoja. Every Smite player earns rewards, even without purchasing the Battle Pass. Begin leveling on day one and unlock awesome loot from the free track including Heistblade Pele, chests, and more!

Smite Season 8

For Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members, you can get a head start on the new season with the Season 8 Starter Pass for free. This bundle includes two exclusive skins (Enyo Bellona and Buccaneith Neith), three goddess for the Most Wanted Pass (Aphrodite, Kali, and Pele), a three day account booster, and a Deal of the Day Token.

Before I sign off, I want to let you know that the Season 8 Update has much more incredible content. From new skins in the Dawn of Babylon event to the Valentine Chest to the Ranked Reward skin and more, Smite Season 8 is just getting started. Business is Booming with MegaCorp, the Latest Expansion for Stellaris: Console Edition

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:00 AM PST

The time has come for you to stake your claim in the galaxy with an exciting new expansion for Stellaris: Console Edition. I’m so excited to tell you about MegaCorp, the latest addition to Stellaris: Console Edition's third expansion pass. This new entrepreneurial focused expansion adds a litany of business focused features for all of you budding tycoons to implement and it’s available now on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

MegaCorp introduces you to a variety of new tools that will help you become Stellaris: Console Edition's next Elon Musk or Andrew Carnegie. Start up a private enterprise, and work your way to controlling (or even replacing) the role of the State.

Stellaris: Console Edition

Feel like you’re better suited to the black market than the world of traditional business? Then control a Criminal Heritage MegaCorp, an intergalactic crime cartel that has decimated and taken jurisdiction over all local governments. Or maybe you're more of a cult figure, in which case you can use your charisma to indoctrinate your Spiritualist Ideology across the galaxy as the leader of a MegaChurch. Regardless of your tactics, space-capitalism is all about winning – at any cost.

We've added a host of new civics centered around the corporate culture of your empire. These new principles will allow you to conduct business on a galaxy wide scale, wheeling and dealing your way to utter domination.

MegaCorp will also allow you to build a Ecumenopolis, or a planet wide city. Use these city worlds to increase the population density, up to a point that you are quite literally "too big to fail". You needn't even limit yourself to one world – spread your megacity to multiple planets, and bully your galactic neighbors into subservience.

Stellaris: Console Edition

While you're traversing the galaxy to network your way up the corporate ladder, you'll need to look out for fleets of roving Caravaneers. These pesky, nomadic traders walk the fine line between charming salesmen and flat out scammers, staying aloof of galactic politics. If you ask me, you're best off avoiding deals with them altogether – but if you must visit one of their home systems, just know that their goal is to take you for all that you're worth.

In addition to all of these new gameplay features, we've added new Ascension perks, more Megastructures, 3 additional advisors, and 4 new music tracks for you to enjoy as part of MegaCorp. Think what you have what it takes to make it in the world of big business? MegaCorp is available now for purchase via the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. We'll see you amongst the stars!

City World: With Ecumenopolis, players can increase the population density of core worlds to truly epic proportions, eventually creating a planet-spanning megacity. Caravaneer Fleets: Keep an eye out for the Caravaneers, nomadic interstellar wheelers-and-dealers who stay aloof from galactic politics, and always have a bargain up their sleeve.
