Posted: 26 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PDT

Buyers are flocking like sheep.

Holy cow! Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town might be the best-selling Story of Seasons title so far, although don't make us do the whole "what counts as a Story of Seasons game" thing right now because it is Friday and we are SLEEPY.

Marvelous Japan, the publisher for Story of Seasons (or Bokujo Monogatari, as it's called over there) in the East, posted to their blog today, stating that Pioneers of Olive Town has sold a total of 700,000 copies worldwide. Sure, some of those might be people who bought the digital edition because their Deluxe Edition physical release has been delayed, but still - that's a huge number of sales for a relatively niche game.

Offering a reintroduction to our protagonist, Crisbell, this new trailer also offers a closer look at five of her allies. That includes Willhelm, a fellow time mage with a youthful appearance; Matias, an absolutely delightful talking Frog; JKR-721, a fist-fighting robot, and more.

Demon Turf Is Coming To Switch This Summer, Thanks To Playtonic Friends

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 11:30 AM PDT

Latest news was revealed during ID@Xbox Showcase.

It's been a while since we had an update on Demon Turf. Developed by Fabraz – who previously released 2017's fantastic Slime-san – this stylish 3D platformer was announced last June, targeting a release date by early 2021. That never materialised, but we know now Demon Turf's coming to Switch this Summer.

Announced during Microsoft's ID@Xbox Showcase earlier today, Fabraz released a brand new trailer, one which also confirms Playtonic Friends is publishing the game. Considering Fabraz was named in Playtonic's announcement last month, that's not especially surprising to hear.

Guide: Best Game Boy / Game Boy Color RPGs

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 11:00 AM PDT

Rock and Role.

The humble Game Boy was a revolution when it launched at the close of the 1980s. Despite its monochrome visuals, it offered true portable play, and played host to some amazing pint-sized versions of classic hits, as well as all-new experiences which played to the hardware's modest strengths.

While the Game Boy (and its successor, the Game Boy Color) didn't get anywhere near as many RPGs as the Game Boy Advance, there are still plenty of role-playing adventures to choose from – and we've pulled together some of the best in this guide. Before you pull out your pitchfork, remember: these are presented in no particular order.

Collector Offers A Look At One Of Nintendo's Rarest Pieces Of Hardware

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 09:30 AM PDT

Every nook and cranny of the 64DD Development Kit detailed.

We absolutely love seeing rare hardware emerging from Nintendo's past. Between those Nintendo 64 development cartridges, news of the DS Lite's unused video output, and the prototype Game Boy Advance, we've also got a rare look at a development kit for the Nintendo 64 Disk Drive (64DD).

This comes from Shane Luis, who hosts YouTube channel Rerez. He received a brand-new developers kit, five unused 64DD Development Disks – which are notably blue, compared to the grey retail units – adapters, and an N64 Cartridge, and this Twitter thread offers a carefully documented technical breakdown:

Review: Stubbs The Zombie In Rebel Without A Pulse - A "Cult Classic" That Has Aged Like Milk

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Stub it out.

It would probably be the most clichéd thing in the world to make this observation, but Stubbs the Zombie In Rebel Without a Pulse is something of a zombie itself; a game that wouldn't die, despite widespread apathy. It has something of a reputation as a "cult" hit, but we're not entirely sure that's justified. The main selling point of the game was always that it was made in the Halo engine – a fact that becomes most apparent when you hop in the Sod Cannon tank in the second area. Unfortunately, the game seems to have inherited the worst aspects of the classic Bungie series, with enormous, featureless areas and poorly-defined objectives without the salve of having some of the best shooting action ever.

Taking control of the titular Stubbs, you'll journey through a 1950s Americana-inspired world engaging in rudimentary combat, possessing people and – of course – chowing down on lovely, buttery brains. "Being the zombie" is a compelling idea, and initially it seems like you're going to have some almost Wonderful 101-esque fun recruiting the undead to your side and forming a groaning army of flesh-eaters, but it quickly becomes clear that these zombies are as dense as you'd probably expect. Fitting for zombie lore, not so great for enjoyable gameplay.

Poll: Which amiibo Arrived On Your Doorstep Today, Then?

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 07:30 AM PDT

All six, or just one? Let us know.

Happy amiibo day, everyone! Yes, today's the day that Nintendo has chosen to unleash several new lumps of NFC-enabled plastic on the general populace, including Banjo & Kazooie (from, ahem, Banjo-Kazooie), Terry Bogard (from Fatal Fury and King of Fighters) and Byleth (Fire Emblem: Three Houses). Because it's also Monster Hunter Rise launch day, there are three new amiibo related to that game, as well: Palamute, Magnamalo and Palico.

As you can see from the images below, the Nintendo Life office now has its very own miniature Banjo & Kazooie and Terry Bogard, but what we want to know is: which amiibo did you order?

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 07:00 AM PDT

All the idea, no gear.

To celebrate the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, we're running a series of features looking at a specific aspect — a theme, character, mechanic, location, memory or something else entirely — from each of the mainline Zelda games. Today, Gavin struggles to gather the necessary items to get his multiplayer quests going in the first place...

First up, let's preface things by saying that this isn't going to be some sad story about a 'Billy No-Mates' who couldn't scrounge up a few friends to play video games with. Promise.

Random: Nintendo Shares 40-Second Clip Of Goombas Getting Demolished Through The Ages

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 05:30 AM PDT

Goombas Galore!

Nothing says 'TGIF' quite like 'let's stomp on a Goomba or fifty', so what better time to relive the history of one of Mario's most iconic enemies?

Yes, the good old Goomba has been around since the very beginning (of Mario games, not of time itself), making its debut appearance in Super Mario Bros. on the NES back in 1985. From there, Goombas have appeared in countless Mario games, often being the first enemy you see – and therefore stomp on.

Poll: Monster Hunter Rise Is Out Today On Switch, Are You Getting It?

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 05:00 AM PDT

And will this be your first MH game?

The day for tracking down mighty foes and slaying them with your closest friends has finally arrived, as Monster Hunter Rise launches today on Nintendo Switch.

In some ways, the Monster Hunter franchise is a bit of an odd beast; we tend to see a divide between players who find the prospect of jumping into the series hugely daunting (likely because there's an awful lot to learn and you need a decent amount of free time to enjoy it properly), and those who are absolutely smitten with anything and everything it has to offer, knowing the game and its mechanics inside and out.

Balan Wonderworld's Final Boss Fight Could Potentially Trigger Epileptic Seizures

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 04:30 AM PDT

"My husband complained of feeling dizzy before he threw up".

Cyberpunk 2077 made the news for many reasons when it launched late last year, but a more pressing concern related to the game's "braindance" sequence causing seizures.

After some debate, it was quickly patched, and Microsoft confirmed it would improve certification procedures to avoid it happening again on its consoles. However, reports suggest that Square Enix's newly-released Balan Wonderworld also contains a scene that could potentially induce seizures.

There's Another Evercade Console In The Works

Posted: 26 Mar 2021 04:00 AM PDT

Just what is the "Evercade VS"?

We've given the Evercade handheld plenty of coverage on this site, mainly because it's a fantastic way to appreciate old games – many of which are former NES and SNES classics.

In case you're unfamiliar with the machine, it's a handheld games console that runs physical cartridges rather than downloadable games. We've seen a host of old-school titles on the system, including offerings from the Dizzy series and vintage cuts from Namco, as well as "modern" retro games like the fantastic Xeno Crisis.
