Random: This Zelda: Breath Of The Wild As A Polly Pocket Is All We've Ever Wanted Posted: 29 Mar 2021 02:30 PM PDT If you think about it, Minish Cap is just a Polly Pocket Zelda, too. It used to be that the only time our favourite games and our childhood toys met was in our dreams, where a horribly mutated My Little Pony would chase us through Resident Evil's halls while a Care Bear and a Cabbage Patch Kid chanted nursery rhymes menacingly in the background. Isn't it much nicer to witness someone else's mash up of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Polly Pocket? Finally: A Link we can shove right up our nostrils. We've been begging Nintendo for years. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: Concept Artist Antonio Demico Imagines Lil Nas X As A God In Hades Posted: 29 Mar 2021 01:30 PM PDT This one might not be entirely SFW, folks. Obviously this is not the image we're talking about Nintendo Life is a family-friendly website, so although Lil Nas X's music video for his newly-released single, 'Montero (Call Me By Your Name)' is an absolute banger, we shan't be sharing it here for a number of reasons. If you have a search engine and a guardian's approval, we have no way of stopping you from finding it, though. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Reminder: Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light Disappears Very Soon Posted: 29 Mar 2021 01:00 PM PDT The darkness is coming. It's not just Mario that inexplicably suffers a cull on 31st March; you'd be excused for forgetting that another Nintendo title is due to drop off the Switch eShop at the end of this month. Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is in its final hours on the store; it was pretty big news when it was announced and then finally released on 4th December last year. Previously a Famicom exclusive, it was the first time that the series debut had been released outside of Japan, with a handsome physical edition catching the eye. Talking Point: Which Old Game Series Would You Like To See Revived? Posted: 29 Mar 2021 12:00 PM PDT Be careful what you wish for... Picture this: You're on a beach. You're digging a big hole, because that's the best thing to do on a beach, maybe second only to eating an ice cream or finding a reaaaaaally smooth rock. But suddenly, your neon-pink plastic spade hits something hard. You claw it out of the wet, dark sand with your fingers, too excited to continue using the spade that you bought an hour ago from the beach shop for an exorbitant £25 price tag - and now you have, in your gritty, wet hands, something unexpected. What is that? An oil lamp? Buried beneath the Cromer sands? How unusual. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Review: Narita Boy - Pay Homage To The '80s In This Marvellous Metroidvania Posted: 29 Mar 2021 10:00 AM PDT A digital utopia. It's 2021, yet it somehow still feels like we're in the 1980s. We're at a point in time where those who were born or grew up in the '80s are now expressing their love for the decade through the arts, resulting in cultural behemoths like Stranger Things and Ernest Cline's Ready Player One. Unfortunately, nostalgia has often seemingly taken precedence over good storytelling, resulting in some rather questionable throwbacks (looking at you, Mr. Cline). Thankfully though, with so many '80s-themed books, movies, and games to choose from recently, it's gotten incredibly easy to filter out the great from the poor. Let's be clear right from the start: Narita Boy is a great game. It's an action-oriented Metroidvania that absolutely leans into a heavy '80s, Tron-like aesthetic, but never lets it overshadow the world or its characters. The pixelated visuals feel retro and yet distinctly modern at the same time, with beautiful animations, bold environment design, and an optional CRT filter that enhances the overall tone of the game (though can occasionally feel a bit too much). For newcomers of the Metroidvania genre, Narita Boy isn't the most accommodating title to start with, but it's certainly one that rewards patience and exploration. These NES-Style Switch Game Card Holders Are Adorable, And Make Them Harder To Lose Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:30 AM PDT Carry your games around in style. We're not sure about you, but it's our personal opinion here at Nintendo Life that those teeny, tiny (and tasty?) Switch game cards are frustratingly easy to misplace. We might just be very accident-prone or absent-minded (or both), but we've spent many an hour scrabbling around the house trying to find a game that has fallen out of our Switch carry case – usually when we're just about to leave for work. Thankfully, there's a solution to this weirdly specific problem, and it comes in the form of tiny NES-shaped Switch game card holders. Produced by Retro Fighters, these little plastic cases allow you to store your games in style, and they even have a little sping-loading mechanism, just like the Switch's cartridge slot does – a little push down on the top of the game card, and it pops right up out of the case. Neat! Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Soapbox: Monster Hunter Rise Is The Perfect Hybrid Game Posted: 29 Mar 2021 08:00 AM PDT Rising to the challenge. A little game called Monster Hunter Rise launched last week, shipping an impressive four million copies through its opening weekend. Its release was so significant in Japan, particularly, that many players tried to book days off, with one CEO getting attention for giving in to the craziness. The Game Of Life 2 Goes For A Spin On Switch eShop Today Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:30 AM PDT Press A,B,B,A to start. Nintendo's systems have attracted their share of board game conversions over the years, and the Switch has been particularly well suited to the genre. It's easy to disregard them, but titles like Monopoly on Switch shift copies, and now we have an established Hasbro property jumping into the fray. Marmalade Game Studio has confirmed that The Game Of Life 2 arrives on the eShop today, albeit with a relatively premium price of $29.99 / €29.99 / £29.99. It's already available on smart devices and PC, and though most would play something like this in local multiplayer it will support online and cross-platform play. UK Charts: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Sees Huge Sales Spike Ahead Of Its Removal From Stores This Week Posted: 29 Mar 2021 07:00 AM PDT And Monster Hunter Rise goes straight to number one. UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 27th March, revealing that Monster Hunter Rise has claimed top spot in its debut week. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Monster Hunter Rise's physical launch sales were "more than twice the size" of those achieved by Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS, but 43% lower than Monster Hunter: World – although the latter did launch across both PS4 and Xbox One, we shouldn't forget. A 1999 Holo Charizard Pokémon Card Just Sold For Over $300,000 On eBay Posted: 29 Mar 2021 06:30 AM PDT Have you got one of these sitting in the attic? It's time to kick yourself for throwing out all of your old Pokémon cards again, because this latest mega-auction proves that their ludicrously high value isn't falling any time soon. Yesterday saw the end of an online auction held on eBay, where one lucky bidder was set to walk away with one of the most sought after cards in the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The 1st Edition Base Set Charizard has been popular with fans ever since its introduction back in 1999 – if you had one of these you'd be the king or queen of the playground and, while you didn't know it at the time, you were sitting on an absolute goldmine. Review: Balan Wonderworld - A Charmless, Confusing Fossil From The Creators Of Sonic Posted: 29 Mar 2021 06:00 AM PDT A relic of another age. Balan Wonderworld is a strange game. Mascot platformers were all the rage around the turn of the century, but that fad has long since died off. Yet here comes a brand-new seemingly high budget entry in the genre that feels straight out of 2001 (not in a good way) and it's produced by Square Enix no less. Unfortunately, Balan Wonderworld feels like a period piece in many respects... only it's a new release and not a relic of two decades ago. Stiff controls, uninteresting level design, and many other issues all come together to make for a game that simply fails to properly achieve what it sets out to do. The story starts off with you selecting either a boy or girl character, followed by a short (though well animated) cutscene which thoroughly fails to explain any of the events which follow. The children are both unhappy(?) and as they wander the streets of their city, they happen across a mysterious entrance to a place called Wonderworld in a back alley. Upon crossing the threshold, they're quickly accosted by a grinning and vaguely menacing showman figure named Balan who whisks them away to a fantasy land to presumably do something good for other people. Random: Who Needs Fancy-Pants Graphics Cards? Now You Can Mine Bitcoin With A Game Boy Posted: 29 Mar 2021 05:00 AM PDT Obviously! It drops blocks with the best of 'em. Are you a retro gamer with an original Game Boy just lying around doing nothing? Well, firstly, shame on you — the Game Boy has a brilliant library of classics that you should be enjoying in any spare moment! Then again, perhaps you play your old-school monochrome games on a GBA, or maybe you've got multiple 'Boys — Pockets, Lights, Colors — collecting dust around the house. Well, YouTuber stacksmashing has decided to make use of the latent computing power sitting in the backs of drawers and cupboards all around the world. Yes, with the aid of a Raspberry Pi Pico serving as a Link Cable to USB adaptor, stacksmashing has managed to harness the massive power of the vintage handheld to chip away at the block. Japan Voted On Final Fantasy's Best Games And Characters - Do You Agree With The Ranking? Posted: 29 Mar 2021 04:30 AM PDT Which is your favourite? Final Fantasy is one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, building up a hugely dedicated army of fans over the years since first launching back in the '80s. With so many games to choose from – and with so many players having their own favourite titles – there are few series that lend themselves to a good old ranking better than this one. It probably makes sense, then, that Japan's public broadcaster, NHK (think the BBC in the UK), has held its very own poll to see which Final Fantasy game is the 'best' of all time. The poll asked viewers to rank their favourite games, characters and more from the series, with a whopping 468,654 votes being cast in total. Let's see how it went down, shall we? Site News: After Our Best Year Yet, Things Are Changing Here At Nintendo Life Posted: 29 Mar 2021 04:00 AM PDT And that includes the return of a familiar face... 2020 might have been a bit of an odd year in terms of life on this spinning chunk of rock we call Earth, but it was an astonishing 12 months in the world of Nintendo – and, by extension, the world of Nintendo Life. We posted the best traffic numbers in the site's 15-year history, spurred on by the increased popularity of the Switch and (we like to think) our amazing editorial coverage. During 2020, visits to Nintendo Life rose by a staggering 49% year-on-year – not too shabby when you consider that 2019 had been our best year ever up to that point. Page views rose by 30% year-on-year, too. Meanwhile, our YouTube channel burst past the 500K subs marker and currently sits at just over 570K subs. Congratulations all around – we couldn't have done it without you (quite literally, in fact). Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Super Nintendo World's Mario Kart Ride Was Built In A Game Engine, Allowing Future Patches Posted: 29 Mar 2021 03:00 AM PDT New characters can be added "overnight". You know that future we all dreamt of as kids where we hoped to one day live inside a giant video game? Well, it looks like we're one step closer to that becoming a reality. Japanese Charts: Mario's Still On Top As Nintendo's Dominance Continues Posted: 29 Mar 2021 02:30 AM PDT Switch and Switch Lite see week-on-week boost. Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 21st March, revealing that Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is still leading the pack. With another estimated 37,396 physical copies sold, Mario's latest adventure managed to fend off Square Enix's new release, Densha de GO!! Hashirou Yamanote Sen, to snag the top spot. Three newcomers actually made their way into the top ten this week, including a physical release of Apex Legends which landed in seventh. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
