Level-5 CEO Reveals The Inspiration For Professor Layton And The Risks Of Self-Publishing Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:30 AM PST "There was a lot of risk involved with the project". Since arriving in 2007, Professor Layton's had quite a successful history. From humble beginnings in a Curious Village to Ace Attorney crossovers, it's been a few years since a new entry in this puzzle-adventure series has appeared, but that hasn't stopped Level-5 CEO and Professor Layton producer Akihiro Hino reminiscing about it. Speaking recently with Yahoo Japan (translation credit to Nintendo Everything), Hino talked about Level-5's early beginnings. When asked about comparisons to book series Atama no Taisou, he shed some light on his initial inspirations for Professor Layton. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
UK Charts: Super Mario 3D All-Stars Bounces Back As March 31st Withdrawal Looms Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:10 AM PST Other Switch titles rise up the chart, too. Last week saw some key Switch titles slump slightly in the UK charts, but fast forward seven days and things are looking a little more encouraging, despite the absence of any new major physical releases. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury holds onto the top spot, despite shedding almost 20% of its sales compared to last week. The fact that Super Mario 3D All-Stars is being withdrawn from sale at the end of this month is perhaps a key reason for its rise up to sixth place – last week, it was sitting just outside of the top ten. Review: Blizzard Arcade Collection - Dig Into The Vaults Of The Creator Of Warcraft And Overwatch Posted: 07 Mar 2021 10:00 AM PST Is it dominating the race or about to blow? Blizzard Entertainment turns 30 this year and, to mark the occasion, BlizzCon last month saw the announcement of Blizzard Arcade Collection. This birthday package rummages out three SNES classics from the early years of the company, blows off the dust, spruces them up a bit, shuffles in some artefacts of company history, then wraps them in colourful paper and ties the whole thing up with a big, sparkly bow – then unabashedly slaps on a brand new price label. So are these games the gifts that keep on giving? Or are we hoping they kept the receipt? The three games in question are 1992's The Lost Vikings, 1993's Rock 'n Roll Racing and 1994's Blackthorne. These were the relatively humble beginnings before Warcraft came out in 1995, and started the snowball for Blizzard's million-selling, multimillion-selling and tens-of-millions-selling mega-franchises that are cultural touchstones for generations of gamers. World of Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and Overwatch: unimaginable achievements for the three UCLA graduates we see in the 'Early years' photo gallery, renting a bare office and taking lunch breaks on the floor with no furniture. But here we are in 2021, Blizzard aged 30, and the three vintage games are getting a modern makeover. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Memory Pak: Taking My First Starter Pokémon All The Way To The Elite Four Posted: 07 Mar 2021 06:30 AM PST Making my parents proud by beating a video game. My first Pokémon was a Chikorita named Chicky, and I loved that tiny green horse-thing with all my heart. I came to Pokémon a little later than many of my friends and peers, having missed out on Pokémon Red and Blue by not owning a Game Boy, but I spent many hours watching others wander around Lavender Town's creepy little graveyard, or showing off Pikachu's smiling face in Pokémon Yellow. I knew I wanted to be a part of this craze, so by the time I finally got my hands on a Game Boy Color, I made sure to tell my parents to get me Pokémon Gold. My little brother got Pokémon Silver, and we shared ownership of a Link Cable. It was a magical time. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
