Harvest Moon: One World Update Promises Longer Days And More Time With Your Animals

Posted: 14 May 2021 02:00 AM PDT

Tweaks based on player feedback.

If you've been enjoying Harvest Moon: One World on Nintendo Switch, you'll be pleased to know that Natsume has dropped a new update addressing a couple of quality of life issues raised by player feedback.

The patch, available to download as we speak, focuses on the length of your in-game days and the lifespan of your animal buddies. Essentially, in-game time now passes more slowly, giving you more time to farm, mine, and adventure before having to pack up for the day, while your animals and pets have been upgraded to enjoy longer lifespans, meaning you can enjoy their company for longer than ever before.

Sam & Max Save The World Gets A 'Beefy' Demo On Switch

Posted: 14 May 2021 01:30 AM PDT

Way to take the short view, little buddy.

In the history of Telltale Games, which ultimately had a rather sad ending, it was Sam & Max that gave the studio one of its earliest hits, which itself was a revival of the classic '90s IP. When Sam & Max Save The World arrived last year on Switch, remastering all of the content from that first season, we rather enjoyed it.

There's more to come, but for now Skunkape Games is making a couple of moves to tempt more players into the current release. First of all there's a 'beefy' demo available now, which seems like a good way to draw in anyone unsure if they fancy jumping in. It includes 'almost' all of episode one, with save progress that will then carry over to the full game; the full game also happens to be 20% off until 31st May, which is the first discount of it to date on the eShop.

Video: Pokémon Fan Reimagines The Diamond And Pearl Remakes As Full 3D Games

Posted: 13 May 2021 06:55 PM PDT

Introducing "Pokémon Adventures Sinnoh".

When Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl got revealed earlier this year, one of the major talking points was about the graphics and top-down chibi art style. In our very own poll, fans said they expected more from Pokémon games on Switch and wanted the remakes to look more like Sword and Shield.

Around the same time, a fan shared their own two-minute concept trailer - showcasing the Sinnoh region in a style similar to Sword and Shield. Now, months on, the same digital artist millenniumloops has released an extended concept - renamed Pokémon Adventures Sinnoh, with some assistance from @dream_caster95.

Mojo Bones Is Working On A New Switch Project - Chrono Faction

Posted: 13 May 2021 12:00 PM PDT

"A completely unique fusion of action/strategy".

Way back in the distant mists of time, also known as 2013, Nintendo first introduced Siesta Fiesta - by developer Mojo Bones - on 3DS as part of its Indiecade showcase; we then saw it at a Post-E3 'Nindie' event the following year, and rather enjoyed it in our review. It was a fun game that took the idea of Breakout, dialled it up with creative sidescrolling stages and boss fights, and did all of that against a visually impressive backdrop.

Review: Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition - Princely Patience Is Required

Posted: 13 May 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Waiting for Space-Godot.

Another day, another Animal Crossing-meets-Harvest Moon-with-a-twist game. Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition is a farming, fighting, fishing and foraging game set in space, with a tiny, spherical planet upon which to do all of those activities: New Leaf by way of Le Petit Prince, if you will. And you are, in fact, a petit prince, although what exactly that means is something you'll discover as you play.

Deiland: Pocket Planet Edition slowly drip-feeds you the plot of the game as you eke out a mostly-solitary existence on your pocket planet, tending to your tiny garden and occasionally upgrading your tools, or adding a new well. For the most part, existence here is quite lovely, if lonely; like its video game inspirations, the slow, methodical passing of the days gives you a surprising amount to do, whether that's catching bass in the little pond, or planting a row of trees around your little house.

We're Getting A New Fatal Frame, But It's A Pachinko Machine

Posted: 13 May 2021 09:30 AM PDT

Aww, snap!

Fatal Frame – also known as Project Zero – is one of the horror genre's most famous franchises. Created by Koei Tecmo, it began life on PlayStation 2 in 2001 but has more recently been exclusive to Nintendo hardware, as Nintendo has co-funded and co-developed recent instalments.

2008's Mask of the Lunar Eclipse was exclusive to Wii, while 2012's Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir was only released on 3DS. The most recent entry, Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water, arrived on Wii U in 2014.

Japanese Charts: New Pokémon Snap's Off To A Good Start, But Resident Evil Village Is A Major Threat

Posted: 13 May 2021 09:00 AM PDT

Monster Hunter Rise settles for second.

Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the two weeks spanning 26th April - 9th May, revealing that New Pokémon Snap has had a great start to life in Nintendo's home country.

In the ten of those 14 days that Snap was available, the game managed to shift a total of 194,385 copies to top this double-week chart. Resident Evil Village sold an impressive 149,884 copies in just two days, however (it launched on 8th May), and would therefore have beaten Snap in this week's rankings if they had been published weekly as usual.

Cave's DoDonPachi Is Coming To Switch, But It's Not The One You Want

Posted: 13 May 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Another 'feature phone' port for Japan.

Cave's DoDonPachi series really pushed the 'bullet hell' shmup style back in the '90s, and the company has kept the franchise going over the years with sequels and ports – including the 2002 arcade release DoDonPachi Blissful Death, known as DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou in Japan.

The good news is that the Switch is about to get its first helping of DoDonPachi – the bad news is that it's DoDonPachi Blissful Death DX, a 'feature phone' port of the game that was available on the G-Mode service in Japan.

Nintendo Switch Production Is Struggling To Keep Up With Demand

Posted: 13 May 2021 08:00 AM PDT

"The fact is that our production plans are more uncertain".

Though it's not a particularly glamorous topic and isn't talked about as much as it should be, there is currently a manufacturing crisis engulfing aspects of the technology industry, including video games. The woes of Sony and Microsoft in trying to produce enough new consoles to meet demand have been widely reported, yet even with established products like the Switch the issues are starting to bite.

The basic summary is that semiconductors of various kinds aren't available in enough volume, as there is currently a fundamental shortage of manufacturing supplies. Nintendo, perhaps due to its established processes and technology in the Switch, was able to ride this out to achieve outstanding hardware sales over the past year as stock of PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S were slow to roll out. However, the ongoing issues were cited in Nintendo's most recent financial results, with the company stating that its sales estimates were based on successfully acquiring all of the materials it needs for production.

Nintendo President Outlines Reasons For Increased R&D Spend, Including Next-Gen Hardware

Posted: 13 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT

Next-gen development "needs to begin years before launch".

Last week Nintendo delivered its annual financial results, and it's fair to say it had a spectacular year. We wrote about some key takeaways, and one that was worth noting was that Nintendo had set a new record for its spending on R&D (research and development).

Many leap to conclusions about new hardware of course, which is understandable in the 2 years+ of frenzy over a revised 'Nintendo Switch Pro', which is still - in reality - a mystery despite the rumours. However, R&D costs going up is also exciting for everything else it can cover, such as new technology for making games and some of the services and products that can surprise us each year. Ranges like Labo and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit don't all take off, but it shows Nintendo is always trying new ideas.

Momotaro Dentetsu Surpasses Three Million Sales On Switch, Yet It's Still Exclusive To Japan

Posted: 13 May 2021 06:30 AM PDT

Global launch when?

Anyone who follows our regular Japanese chart updates will likely remember Momotaro Dentetsu: Showa, Heisei, Reiwa mo Teiban!, Konami's super-popular train simulator exclusively available on Switch. The game was hoovering up sales like crazy for months, fending off the competition to remain in first place for eleven consecutive weeks.

Now, Konami has now revealed that Momotaro Dentetsu has surpassed a mighty three million sales on Switch. To put that into perspective, Nintendo's own Paper Mario: The Origami King, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, and Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics have all sold just over three million units each in their lifetimes (correct as of March 2021), and games like Pikmin 3 Deluxe and Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition are still yet to reach the figure.

BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION Is An Intriguing Sci-Fi Adventure That Looks Tasty On Switch

Posted: 13 May 2021 06:00 AM PDT

The all-caps is the way the title's written, by the way.

May has been a decent month on the eShop with a variety of intriguing new releases either out now or arriving imminently, and another title is looking wishlist-worthy. BEAUTIFUL DESOLATION, aside from its insistence on all-caps - ASTRAL CHAIN says hi - looks like a rather fascinating top-down adventure.

Its console release was confirmed a few weeks back, with its arrival on Switch and PS4 due on 28th May. With a top-down view and post-apocalyptic vibe it draws comparison to some classics, which developer The Brotherhood is keen to clear up. This is a game primarily focused on a neat story, exploration and puzzle solving, so it's keen to avoid comparison to titles like the original Fallout, for example.
