Posted: 28 Jun 2021 02:00 AM PDT

And they said pigs wouldn't fly.

While it's a relatively niche series, especially in the West, Valkyria Chronicles has a dedicated fanbase. With the original and Valkyria Chronicles 4 - which story-wise is around the same timeline as the first game - both available on Nintendo Switch, meanwhile, we've been able to enjoy this quirky take on turn-based strategy/combat.

Anyone unconvinced in Japan, or those that have a valid Nintendo Switch Online account for the country, will have the chance to try out the first game in a Trial from next week, between 5th - 11th July. After the trial concludes both the original and 4 will be discounted by a third on the Japanese eShop.

Review: Mushihimesama - A Cave Classic With The Right Kind Of Bugs

Posted: 27 Jun 2021 06:00 AM PDT

A bug's life.

Note: At the time of writing, sales of Mushihimesama on the EU Switch eShop have been temporarily suspended. Publisher Live Wire has stated that it will return to the store "in the near future".

Arcade shoot-em-ups in the 1980s may have started out as largely science fiction, but there have long been efforts in the genre to differentiate games with unique themes. One of the most interesting of these is Cave's Mushihimesama ("Bug Princess"), which takes place in a world filled with enormous insects. It was initially released in 2004 in the arcades, with a middling 2005 PlayStation 2 conversion, an iOS port in 2011, and then finally an HD release for Xbox 360, Windows, and now the Switch.

Posted: 27 Jun 2021 01:00 AM PDT

Focus will be on gameplay features first.

It's been an uphill battle for developers porting next-generation titles to the Switch since the system arrived in 2017.

While we've seen some "impossible" ports like The Witcher 3 and DOOM, often studios have to make serious comprises to get certain games up and running on Nintendo's hybrid hardware. When it comes to Overwatch 2 it will unsurprisingly be no different. During the same fifth anniversary Reddit AMA with the Overwatch team at the end of May, concerns were raised about the Switch iteration of the upcoming release and if it would even be released.
