Black Widow Review Round-Up: What Do The Critics Think? Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:38 AM PDT After long delays thanks to an unprecedented viral pandemic, Marvel Studios' latest movie, Black Widow, is finally here--well, at least the reviews are. The movie will hit theaters on July 9, and it will also arrive to Disney+ that day under Premier Access for an additional $30. Now that critics are talking about the movie, here's what they had to say. Over at GameSpot's sister-site, Metacritic, Black Widow has scored a 69 so far, out of 28 reviews, one of which was negative, 6 of which were mixed, and 21 of which were positive. Over at Rotten Tomatoes, Black Widow sits at 86% fresh currently. This is still over a week from theatrical release for the movie, so these scores will likely change. Below, you will find a selection of some of the many reviews for Black Widow, and you can check out some early social reactions as well. For more from Marvel, you can check out Disney+'s Loki, which airs on Wednesdays. Recently, the series revealed that Loki is bisexual and where TVA agents really come from. Marvel Future Revolution iOS and Android Pre-Registration Is Now Live Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:14 AM PDT Pre-registration for Marvel Future Revolution is live across iOS and Android, developer Netmarble has announced. Having previously worked on Marvel Future Fight, Marvel Future Revolution follows in the footsteps of that game with open-world and action-RPG elements featuring Marvel's mightiest heroes. Set in a reality stitched together from multiple dimensions that have all collapsed into each other to form Primary Earth--Think the more recent Secret Wars comic book event--it'll be up to you to lead Omega Flight in the fight against numerous supervillains and earn some fashionable new clothing in the process. Costumes will be a major part of Marvel Future Revolution, with each hero having four-piece sets that can be mixed and matched to create a unique look or an actual fashion crime. As for modes, the game appears to have plenty on offer: PvE content will include a dedicated campaign that can be played either solo or with friends, as well as Blitz, Special Operations, and Raid modes to try out online. WoW: Shadowlands Chains Of Domination Update Highlights Big PvP Changes - Full Patch Notes Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:09 AM PDT World of Warcraft players have patiently waited more than seven months for the first major content drop for Shadowlands, and at long last it's finally here, with the game's full patch notes detailing all the new content and big changes players will be able to sink their teeth into with the Chains of Domination update. A new raid, new mega-dungeon, and new zone are the highlights of the content update. In the new raid, the Sanctum of Domination, players will finally be able to confront Sylvanas Windrunner, who has been serving the game's new big bad, the Jailer, for multiple expansions now. That will have big implications for the story moving forward, as will the fact that Anduin Wrynn, the leader of the Alliance, looks to have been brainwashed by the Jailer for his own nefarious purposes. In the new Korthia zone, players will team up with the various covenants of the Shadowlands to fight back against the Jailer's forces in new story-campaign quests, while in Tazavesh, a new mythic-only difficulty eight-boss dungeon, players will discover more about the mysterious group known as the Brokers. Players will be able to unlock the use of ground mounts in the Maw after completing the introductory quest in Korthia, while earning renown and completing covenant campaign quests will unlock the use of flying mounts in the other Shadowlands zones. Square Enix Will Soon Stop Selling The Final Fantasy V and VI Remasters Everyone Hates Posted: 29 Jun 2021 10:05 AM PDT The remasters of Final Fantasy V and VI available on PC will be delisted from storefronts on July 27, according to the Steam store description of both items. Twitter user RobotBrush was one of the first to spot the notice, while also commenting that these remastered versions are generally considered to be a bad way to play the game. Final Fantasy V and VI are widely-regarded as two of the best entries in the storied series. However, the remasters available on Steam are ports of the mobile versions of the game, which redrew all of the game's sprites in order to give it a less pixelated look. Fans complained that these new sprites were blurry and uninspired, and several of the top Steam reviews for each game cite major bugs such as save corruption.
Given that Square Enix recently announced that it will fully remaster the first six Final Fantasy games and release them in one package on PC and mobile, it makes sense that the company would want to distance themselves from these less-than-popular remasters. These new remasters are trying to recreate what pixels looked like on a CRT television rather than just simply recreating the original raw pixels. As Chris Kohler of Digital Eclipse notes, the raw pixels were never meant to be seen by the player. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

Minecraft Alpha Version Was Missing For A Decade, But Someone Finally Found It Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:44 AM PDT Minecraft alpha version 1.1.1, an extremely rare build of the game that was only available for a few hours back in 2010, has finally been recovered thanks to some digital sleuthing. Back in the early days of Minecraft--before it was the gaming behemoth that we know today--the game was often updated at a weekly or even daily clip, which could sometimes confuse players. As a result of this, alpha version 1.1.1 was only available for three hours and 25 minutes before it was replaced with 1.1.2. This is because 1.1.1 introduced a nasty bug that could lead to the game becoming unresponsive, and Mojang stomped out the bug very quickly. Since it was known as a bugged version, most Minecraft players who downloaded the build quickly deleted it once they downloaded 1.1.2.
As a result, many in the community thought that it was lost forever, including those at the Omniarchive, which is a group dedicated to dredging up old versions of Minecraft. However, that changed when a digital archivist noticed that Twitter user @LunaSorcery had tweeted that she downloaded the new build on the day it came out. Luna dug around in an old external hard drive and managed to find the lost version of the game, which caused many hardcore Minecraft fans to jump for joy. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

Original Star Fox Dev Says He'd Like To Make A No-Nonsense Sequel Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:10 AM PDT If you don't count the release of the canceled-at-the-last-minute Star Fox 2, which debuted on the Super NES Classic Edition in 2017, Nintendo's Star Fox series has been dormant since the release of Star Fox Zero on the Wii U in 2016. Now, the original Star Fox's co-programmer, Giles Goddard, is offering insight on what he would do were he to ever work on a new entry in the series. "I think I would just dial it back a lot and not put in gimmicks like, you know, the stuff Star Fox Zero had, and maybe not even put in the free roaming aspects and stuff like that," Goddard says in a new interview with GameXplain. "I would just bring it back, pull it back into what made the original Star Fox fun, and just make one based on that. I don't know how popular it would be, but it would be cool to try." Star Fox Zero, co-developed by Platinum Games, released to mediocre reviews, with critics and players criticizing the game's Wii U GamePad functionality, which required them to aim weapons using the GamePad's gyroscopic controls. The game was bundled at launch with Star Fox Guard, a tower-defense-esque game also co-developed by Platinum Games in which players monitored security cameras in an effort to defend a base from robotic enemies. Black Widow Review: Awkward Timing Posted: 29 Jun 2021 09:00 AM PDT In 2019, Spider-Man: Far From Home gave us a glimpse at the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Avengers Endgame. More recently, various MCU stories have continued in Disney+ shows like WandaVision, The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, and Loki. Now, two years after the last MCU movie's release, we're finally getting a new big screen entry in the most impactful superhero movie franchise in existence. Unfortunately, it's a prequel. Obviously, that doesn't come as a surprise. Black Widow died in Endgame, and we've known all along that this story would take place earlier. After a thrilling opening sequence set during Natasha Romanoff's (Scarlett Johansson) childhood, the film jumps to the period in between Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, when half the Avengers, including Natasha, were fugitives on the run. On the lam, she hides out in a remote trailer watching James Bond movies on a laptop powered by a finicky generator. It's an intimate scene, and it reveals more about Natasha as a character than all the past MCU films combined. That's part of the problem: Black Widow has its work cut out trying to explain Natasha's backstory, reveal more about her as a character, fill in a brief gap in the MCU's overarching story, and set up future events. The story itself is simple: Natasha gets a package from her once-sister, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), that makes her a target of a masked villain known as Taskmaster. The sisters reunite, then track down Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour) and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz) to help them take down the man responsible for the child-indoctrinating Black Widow program once and for all. F1 2021's Reveals The Stars Of Its Braking Point Mode Posted: 29 Jun 2021 08:44 AM PDT Codemasters' F1 series of games have never been short on story elements as players created their own narrative for their custom racer, but this year's entry in the long-running annual series features a new narrative component called Braking Point, and it stars a cast of new and returning characters. In a blog post, Codemasters revealed who players will be able to play as in Braking Point. Aiden Jackson is described as a young and promising driver with talent that lifted him out of F2 and into F1, although he's not yet sure of his place in the main event of motorsports. Contrasting Jackson's turn as the newest rookie in F1 is his veteran teammate Casper Akkerman, described as having an ice-cold and no-nonsense approach to F1 as he struggles to remain at the top of his game while also realizing that his career is slowly coming to an end. On the more antagonistic side of the cast is Devon Butler, a brash and talented driver who is determined to cement his legacy by any means possible. Over in the pits, Brian Doyle can be found, where he serves as the direct liaison to the team principal and spends a lot of his time as the go-between, passing on messages, race strategies, or ironing out any grievances within the team. Rounding out the cast is Zoe Akkerman, Casper's wife and confidante. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
