Of Course Scalpers Are Already Flogging Metroid Dread's Special Edition And amiibo

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 05:30 AM PDT

Don't fall for it.

The prospect of Metroid Dread's upcoming launch has fans of Samus' 35-year-old series super-excited, but sadly – and surprising no one – scalpers have already arrived on the scene to ruin everyone's day.

As you may know, the game's being treated to a Special Edition release which comes with extra physical goodies, as well as an amiibo double pack which is sold separately. amiibo can be hard enough to secure at the best of times with pre-orders often selling out fast, and we've seen a number of stores already sell out of the Special Edition, too.

It Appears This Mario Party Superstars Minigame Has Been Adapted For Accessibility

Posted: 18 Jun 2021 04:00 AM PDT

You love to see it.

Mario Party Superstars looks set to revamp some of our favourite boards and minigames from the series' history – and early footage suggests that it's going to look fantastic – but here's something even better.

Mushroom Mix-Up, a minigame that Nintendo 64 owners might remember from the very first Mario Party, is making a grand return in Superstars. It's been given a visual makeover, as you'd expect, but it appears that Nintendo has also put a bit of thought into how the game can be more accessible for a wider audience.

It's analysis and speculation time!

In Nintendo's E3 Direct, we finally got a new look at the upcoming sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It was an intriguing trailer for lots of reasons – not least because it seemed to hide Link's face at every opportunity. What's up with that?

Our lovely video team have been hard at work dissecting and analysing every single frame of the new clip, hoping to come up with some answers to the many questions the trailer left us with. We've already seen plenty of wild fan theories surrounding the new footage, so it can't hurt to add our own, right?

It'll make its debut on Steam this year, before landing on Switch and other systems in early 2022.

Developed by En House Studios and published by Digerati, it promises "a wild RPG full of fourth-wall breaking fun".

Our most anticipated Switch games.

We've updated the list below with some new announcements and removed the 2021 Switch games that have come and gone already. Loads to look forward to!

2020 is but a dim and distant memory (at least, we wish it was!) and it's time to look to the future. We saw some fantastic games come to Switch last year — several of them released within a matter of weeks of their surprise announcement — but we also saw some big names slip into 2021, for understandable reasons.

Get Ready For Cris Tales With Its Gorgeous Opening Cinematic

Posted: 17 Jun 2021 12:00 PM PDT

It's close.

The Switch has plenty of extremely interesting games on the way, one of which is undoubtedly Cris Tales. A title that'll likely plenty of nods to classic JRPGs, it'll also have its own ideas and is pitched to make particular use of 'time-bending' mechanics.

It looks like a very strong effort from developer Dreams Uncorporated, and now publisher Modus Games has released the opening cinematic (above) to give a taste of the setting, and of course the cast of characters and their foes. It's a particularly stylish opening cinematic, in our view.

Guide: Metroid Games You Need To Play Before Metroid Dread

Posted: 17 Jun 2021 11:00 AM PDT

Here's how to catch up on Samus' story.

After 19 years away, the Metroid series is finally returning to its roots with a brand new entry into its mainline 2D series. Metroid Dread will be the fifth game in the beloved franchise's core lineup when it launches on Switch this October, and if our chat with the game's producer is anything to go by, that 19-year gap will have been more than worth the wait.

It makes us feel painfully old to say it, but we've no doubt there are plenty of you reading this who weren't old enough to be playing games – or perhaps not even old enough to have been born yet – when the series' last entry arrived on store shelves. Metroid celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, too, so even series veterans might be feeling a little rusty on their Chozo lore.

Posted: 17 Jun 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Not a bad start, eh?

Famitsu's Japanese chart figures are now in for the week ending 13th June, revealing that Game Builder Garage has gone straight in at number one in its debut week.

The game – which was treated to a physical edition in both Japan and North America, don't forget – managed to sell an estimated 71,241 copies at retail to keep Square Enix's updated Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade release off top spot. It leads a top ten with a healthy number of new entries, mostly for PlayStation systems.

Posted: 17 Jun 2021 08:00 AM PDT

And fans are hoping for more.

Mario Party Superstars is set to receive Brazilian Portuguese localisation from launch when it releases this October, becoming the first of Nintendo's first-party titles to do so.

Over the past few months, Nintendo has been increasingly improving its product availability and services across Brazil, with the Switch officially launching in the country last September. Fans were forced to import Nintendo games and consoles from elsewhere up until that point, but now have access to legitimate local purchase options and a fully functioning Nintendo eShop.

Cyber Hook Swings Onto Nintendo Switch Very Soon

Posted: 17 Jun 2021 06:15 AM PDT

Adds motion controls for a new experience.

It's not so long ago that so many games had 'Cyber' in the title that it was becoming a genre of its own, but the passing of time and some controversies for the source of that rush of cyberpunk has calmed it all down. Nevertheless, 'cyber' and 'punk' are still cool when used well in a game, and Cyber Hook is a fun title that's bringing frantic action to the Switch eShop soon; it arrives on 24th June priced at $14.99USD.

This is a title that found an eager audience when it initially arrived on PC last year; it's a fast-paced first-person runner where you shoot and grapple your way through some rather tricky stages. As you can see in the trailer above this is a game that will be pretty darn challenging, and it includes worldwide leaderboards for the competitive among you that want to master each run. New for the Switch version will be motion controls, too, presumably for aiming.
