Leaked images seem to confirm WW2 setting for Call Of Duty: Vanguard

Rumours earlier this year suggested that the next shootybang Call of Duty game would be called Call Of Duty: Vanguard, and that it would bring a World War 2-themed Warzone map.

New images leaked online today on social media seem to lend further credence to those rumours, showing a Call Of Duty: Vanguard logo and a background featuring four characters holding WW2 equipment.

Eastward's Quake City dungeon has me stoked for its September release

Retro RPG Eastward has been on my most anticipated games list for actual years. When I first saw it at EGX back in 2019, I quickly fell in love with its characterful pixel art and nifty pair of protagonists - miner and frying pan extraordinaire John and his mysterious ward Sam - and couldn't wait to see what post-apocalyptic wonders lay beyond the mutated forests and run-down hub town I saw in that first demo. This week, I got to see a glimpse of its Quake City dungeon, a toxic wasteland you'll be picking through around ten hours into the game. With carnivorous plants, pesky crows and lots of poison-spewing hogs to contend with, Eastward has a surprising amount of bite hidden beneath its charming visuals, and I'm now more excited than ever to play it in full when it comes out next month.

Apex Legends lead designer fired over old racist and sexist comments

Daniel Klein, the now-former lead game designer on Apex Legends, has been let go from Respawn Entertainment, due to sexist and racist remarks he made in 2007. A video and screenshots of his old DeviantArt blog posts began circulating online last month, referring to women as having "moron chromosomes" and comparing African people to animals. Klein has since apologised, though it seems his days working on Apex are over.

Diablo 4 director reportedly let go from Activision Blizzard

Three long-serving Activision Blizzard developers have reportedly been let go, following allegations that the company fostered a culture of sexual harassment and discrimintation in an ongoing lawsuit. Activision Blizzard have confirmed that Diablo 4's director Luis Barriga, lead designer Jesse McCree, and World Of Warcraft designer Jonathan LeCraft have all left the company, though they haven't explicitly provided a reason why.

Metal Slug Tactics' latest gameplay trailer teases some towering boss battles

Metal Slug Tactics adding a third-dimension looks to have been an excellent idea. As we saw during E3, the traditionally 2D platformer has spawned an isometric strategy game. Aesthetically, it’s lost nothing in translation. The pixelly characters look lovely in any dimension, and the levels are delightfully detailed dioramas filled with fun little battles. Metal Slug also had giant bosses to cap off levels, and though there's a new perspective in play, the latest gameplay trailer for Metal Slug Tactics shows the bosses are as meaty as before.

Here's when Back 4 Blood's open beta kicks off today

While some folks had a chance to play Back 4 Blood's beta last week, today the open beta goes live so everyone can give the new Left 4 Dead-like a go. If you haven't had a chance to try it out yet, players get access to a bunch of campaign missions, with a different objective in each. It's a decent chunk of content that gives a good sense of what to expect in the full version of the first-person zombie basher, plus you can try out the PvP versus mode.
