Slither and puzzle through dungeons in Temple Of Snek

I like a good puzzle dungeon. Give me a tiled floor littered with switches and spikes and I'll probably have a merry time.

Temple Of Snek gives me that and more, by crossing those puzzle concepts with the classic rules of Snake. Which are: you are a snake, you are always moving forward, and you get longer the more you eat. Can you wind your way out of each puzzle room before you get long or skewered?

I'm slowly coming around to the charms of large monitors. As my eyesight gets worse and my focus on good posture strengthens, the prospect of a nice big monitor that I can read at a distance is appealing more and more. That's why I went for Samsung's 32-in Odyssey G7 when it briefly dropped to £469, and it's also why I'm today recommending another 32-inch monitor: the LG 32GN600-B, which today is available from Overclockers for just £249, 28% off its RRP.

That's a great deal for a 32-in 1440p 165Hz monitor based around a flat VA panel, with a quoted 3000:1 contrast ratio and 1ms MPRT pixel response time. The nearest comparable monitor on Amazon costs £30 more, with other monitors of this spec retailing for £100 extra!

Quake gets a new expansion, enhanced graphics and splitscreen multiplayer for its birthday

Quake, the classic 1996 first-person shooter, has received a major new update enhancing its graphics, adding dedicated deathmatch servers, cross-play with consoles, splitscreen multiplayer, and a brand new expansion developed by Machine Games.

Ancient action platformer returns in Zool Redimensioned, out now

I'm squinting, but I don't see a single Chupa Chup anywhere in the trailers or screenshots for Zool Redimensioned. Playing the original platformer back on the Amiga was the first time I encountered product placement in a videogame, but it seems Zool's love for a particular brand of lollipops has been lost amid the switch to modern resolutions.

Splitgate will stay in beta indefinitely so the devs can continue improving it

The new Portal-meets-Halo shooter Splitgate has been doing a bit bloody well recently, so the developers have decided to keep it in beta until further notice so they can carry on scaling up their servers. Made by 1047 Games, Splitgate was supposed to release in full this month. Since the beta launched, they've been surprised by how quickly its popularity has grown, getting more than 10 million downloads since it first went into beta in July. It's full release is now delayed indefinitely, and the devs say they have more content coming down the line.

Dino teen drama Goodbye Volcano High delayed to next year

It looks like we'll be waiting a bit longer to play as sad teenage dinosaurs, because Goodbye Volcano High has been delayed. The upcoming dino drama anime is being developed by Ko_op (the folks who previously made Gnog) and was initially supposed to come out sometime this year. Alas, much like the real dinosaurs of old, it seems disaster has struck - the devs weren't hit by a meteor though, they just want to redo the narrative, and the ongoing pandemic has impacted their plans. Goodbye Volcano High is now looking at a 2022 release.

Mechajammer isn't quite an isometric Deus Ex yet, but there's potential here

As far as we know, cyberpunk RPG Mechajammer has neither mechs or jam in it. It does, however, have goopy red lava pools in its dense, alien forest, and as you bust out of a military base lined with rows upon rows of chunky pixel brains floating in big, bubbling fluid jars, you stumble across the remains of a huge, metal Vykinaut.

Mechajammer's distinct, grungy art style makes it hard to tell exactly what the Vykinaut actually is, but my best guess would probably be a kind of tank with a big, black, fleshy head jutting out of it, accompanied by large meaty arms. It might be a mech, but not as we generally know it. Its head lolls to the side, exposing what appear to be sharp white teeth, and surrounding it are dozens upon dozens of bodies. Your pal and fellow escapee Barry urges you to move on and not wait around for whatever equally monstrous thing did this to the Vykinaut, but in this hands-on demo, this scene of carnage is the least of your worries.
