Introducing a New Fortnite Experience: Impostors

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 01:00 PM PDT

Will you ensure the safety of The Bridge, or follow Jones' footsteps to enforce its demise? Everyone has a role to fill in Fortnite Impostors.

Impostors is an all-new Fortnite experience where players assuming the role of Agents aim to maintain order at the IO's top secret facility: The Bridge. An Impostor (or two Imposters in matches with 8-10 players) seek to disrupt it.

Secure Victory as an Agent

It's up to the Agents of the Imagined Order to keep The Bridge functioning at full capacity. Take part in unique assignments, such as cleaning the Battle Bus, delivering Storm reports, or button mashing on the arcade machine. Be on the lookout for eliminated allies as you complete your Assignments!

Complete your Assignments with haste, Agent. You never know what dubious Impostors lurk in the shadows waiting to strike (or turn you into Peely). As you complete your Assignments, be on the lookout for your eliminated allies. Find an ally's Fragment? Report it! Agents will then be called to the bridge to root out the Impostor.

It's up to the crew to point out any suspicious behavior, but be on your toes! Any fellow Agents could be masquerading as an Impostor.

Fortnite Imposters

Disrupt the Flow as an Impostor

Who's ready for a little chaos? The Impostors must do anything it takes to stop the Agents from protecting The Bridge, before having their true identity revealed. Shut down Assignments, displace everyone, and even throw a Peely Party! All of these are ways the Impostor can throw a wrench into the Agents’ plans.

  • Momentarily halt all progress on Assignments. Doing this will give you more time to take down The Bridge.
  • Teleport Players – The good ole' switcheroo. Relocate all Agents and Impostors to somewhere else on the bridge. This confusion should be enough to cover your footsteps.
  • Peely Party – For a short time, turn all Agents and Impostors into Peely, so you can blend in with the crowd and split!!

Impostors will also have a list of Assignments they should complete, if they want to earn the Agents' trust; but don't be too diligent with your work. Completing Assignments will put the Agents closer to completing their goal.

Fortnite Imposters

Communication is Key!

Communication is the key to securing a safe Bridge, Agent. While public voice chat is disabled to keep gameplay fair, you can still chat with your group in party chat, and use the newly added Emotes and Quick Chat menu to communicate with your fellow Agents (or Impostors).

Select the "Private" option when queuing into Impostors if you only want to play with your group of friends. This option does require at least four players in your party to launch this custom version of Impostors. For the best experience, we recommend a full group of ten or fill your group into a public lobby.

Four to seven player matches will only have one Impostor, while eight or more will result in two Impostors to disrupt The Bridge. Additionally, you can change your party settings by selecting the Gear icon in your friends list. There are a few options here that can let you customize how many players you let into your party.

Vote Out The Impostors!

Make sure to have Discussions with the party to check in on fellow Agents and to discuss the Impostors' infiltration efforts. Discussions can be called by discovering and reporting eliminated Agents, or by interacting with the Discussion panel in The Bridge's center room. Agents and Imposters can communicate with each other via Emotes and the Quick Chat menu. It's up to the Agents to ask the hard-hitting questions and accuse the right suspect — before ejecting them.

Fortnite Imposters

At the end of every Discussion, Agents and Impostors will either vote to eject someone, or skip the vote. Listen closely to what your fellow Agents are telling you, as they could be trying to deceive you! If the player voted out was actually an Agent, then the Imposters become one step closer to eliminating everyone and taking over The Bridge. (Note: Playing with a keyboard plugged into your console? Players using AZERTY keyboards or non-default keybinds will need to join a Fortnite Impostors game to adjust their Keybind Settings for this game mode.)

The Fate of The Bridge is up to you, Agents (or Impostors). Choose wisely in this new mode!!

QuakeCon 2021: Signature Panels, News, and Updates

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 12:00 PM PDT

The annual QuakeCon event is back for another weekend of panels, tournaments, charitable giving and more! Day 1 featured a series of signature panels packed with new insights and exciting announcements from a range of Bethesda games. From a deep dive into Fallout 76's upcoming Fallout Worlds update to a surprise Quake announce, we've got the full rundown of everything discussed on day one below.

Quake

It's not often that we get to see three industry legends together in one panel, but a celebration of 25 years of Quake is the perfect excuse to have id Software's Studio Director Marty Stratton and Senior Producer Kevin Cloud share their Quake (and QuakeCon) memories with MachineGames' Executive Producer Jerk Gustafsson. Announced during this all-star panel: Quake is back! Experience the dark fantasy FPS that inspires today’s retro-style shooters, now enhanced with cross-play, four-player co-op, multiplayer with up to eight players, improved visuals, four expansions and more. Quake is out now for PC and Xbox One with Xbox Game Pass and is backward compatible for Xbox Series X|S.

Fallout 76

Fallout Worlds comes to Fallout 76 on September 8, bringing unique adventures to Appalachia with rotating Public Worlds and granting players the tools to customize their own Custom Worlds. Check out the full panel as Fallout Worlds Lead Bo Buchanan and Design Director Mark Tucker run us through the latest game updates along with the full scoop on Public Worlds, Custom Worlds, and everything that's possible with Fallout Worlds.

Doom Eternal

Hell shall have no shortage of slain demons with Update 6.66, coming soon to Doom Eternal. Get the scoop on this major update from id Software Executive Producer Marty Stratton and Game Director Hugo Martin as they discuss the two new Master Levels, waves of demons to best in Horde Mode, an all-new Battlemode arena and improved matchmaking.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Come along for a lively ride on that iconic cart as original developers Ashley Cheng, Will Shen, and Matt Carofano sit down together for Skyrim's 10th anniversary to share memories and insider stories while playing through the opening of their game. To ring in the occasion, Bethesda Game Studios announced The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Anniversary Edition, which contains the full game plus all three expansions – DawnguardHearthfire, and Dragonborn – as well all the enhancements found in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. The Anniversary Edition also contains over 500 unique pieces of Creation Club content, including quests, dungeons, bosses, weapons, spells and more. Eligible console owners will receive a free upgrade to an Xbox Series X|S Optimized version.

Also announced during the panel was the anniversary celebration concert featuring the game's original score performed by the London Symphony Orchestra, livestreaming on Bethesda's Twitch and YouTube channels on November 11.

The Elder Scrolls Online

Studio Director Matt Firor and Creative Director Rich Lambert give us a guided tour of The Elder Scrolls Online and talk about the latest additions and updates coming to their game – and why now is the proverbial "perfect time" to join 19 million players in this epic and welcoming fantasy adventure. During the panel, ZeniMax Online Studios also debuted a new trailer for the upcoming Waking Flames DLC, launching on August 23 for PC, and September 8 for consoles. Players can try ESO now through August 30 during the Free Plays Event.

Shadow the Stalkers in Vigor: Season 9

Posted: 20 Aug 2021 11:00 AM PDT

Hei Outlanders!

It’s already August and you'll soon see why we've decided to say goodbye to summer with a bang! By the way, do you know what else is in August? That’s right, it's our anniversary this week! We're celebrating our second birthday with style and we couldn’t be happier to share our excitement and gratitude with the community by releasing a new Season packed with a bunch of cool features. But before we go through what Season 9 has in store for you, let’s take a look at what happened during Season 8, shall we?

Season 8 was released back in April when we introduced a group of Outlanders called Trappers who live in harmony with nature and can be identified by their animal face paints and inventive backpacks. We brought in a new Battle Pass with two new packs: the premium Hunter Pack for $69.99 and the Prey Pack for $19.99. We also added a new weapon (the PH M82 sniper rifle) and 2 POIs (Loot Events) in every Encounter! After all of that, update 8.1 in late June saw us introduce Legacy Seasons, starting with Legacy Season 1: Preppers. Besides the Legacy Seasons, update 8.1 also offered the “Thank You Charity Pack”. Some pesky bugs were fixed as well, like the weapon crosshair bloom bug, the bug where your weapon gets jammed after shooting the locked container, the rapid fire glitch, and the compass issue.

Now then, let’s move on to the good stuff!

Season 9: Stalkers

We heard your feedback and took into consideration your request for a more military oriented Season with darker shades of clothes. That’s why we’re proud to introduce this military/apocalyptic side of the Outlands.

The Stalkers are the children of the apocalypse. They were born to survive the Outlands and you can recognize them by their gas masks, muzzles, rusted weapons, and hauntingly glorious title. They also come equipped with grenades and the formidable A74-KSU, so make sure to shadow them across the land and discover all the enhancements they bring!

Speaking of the A74-KSU, it’s a powerful assault rifle, so give it a shot in the Outlands (literally) and let us know what you think!

Vigor: Season 9

The Next Big Thing Has Arrived

Grenades are finally here! We know you’ve been asking for them for a long time and the wait is finally over. Some players might remember when we had them back in the very early stages of the game’s development. But we decided to remove them, do a complete overhaul on them, and re-introduce them once they were ready. And that time is now!

First of all, they are fragmentation or “frag” grenades, meaning that if one explodes close to you, you can die instantly! Since they are a “Special Issue” rarity, you can only carry 2 into an Encounter. They are the perfect tool to force out other players who might be hiding inside a house or at an advantageous point. They can help in situations when you feel like you might be walking into an ambush because you can throw a preemptive grenade. If there’s someone waiting for you, the grenade will definitely get them moving. Now you can go into the Encounters better prepared for these kinds of stalemate situations. Ultimately, they will bring some versatility to the game and will allow players to pursue a faster-paced game style. So make sure to use them whenever you find the opportunity.

You can throw a grenade inside a house through an open window or through glass! You can also choose how you want to throw the grenade. If you’re going for a long throw, an arch will appear to show you the trajectory of the grenade. Be careful of any obstacles along the way though, as the grenade can bounce off objects. You can also opt for a quick throw at close range. In case you’re wondering if an Armor Plate can save you from a grenade, the answer is no! But if someone throws a grenade close to you, the game will show you a warning signal, giving you a few precious seconds to escape the blast range in one piece.

One of the struggles with the development process for the grenades was the fact that we don’t have any animators on the Vigor team. As a result, we had to work with the animations we had. Thankfully, one of our scripters, who is really skilled at animating stuff, was able to take our existing animations and make them look smoother and more natural.

Vigor: Season 9

Performance Enhancements For Next Gen Consoles

Here's another thing that our community was asking for that we managed to introduce in Season 9: players on the Xbox Series S|X will be able to enjoy Vigor in 60 fps! And this is only the beginning. What we plan on doing next is to use the additional power we get from the Xbox Series X to boost image quality. Our team would like to increase the target resolution, boost the quality of the shadows, and sharpen the overall image. But we still have to investigate it. However, even though we’ve brought 60 fps to the Xbox Series S, it doesn’t provide us with much room to introduce further enhancements like the Series X does.

Now’s The Time To Try Elimination Mode

We decided to give some love to the Elimination mode with this Season, which is why a lot of important changes were made. First and foremost, we switched off team killing! Hooray! On top of that, we added more weapon load outs before each round. Last but not least, we're introducing an Elimination crate as a reward, similar to the Shootout crate!

Here's how the Elimination crate works. Each member of the winning team will receive one Elimination crate, as well as XP rewards based on their score. The only way you will not receive any rewards is if you keep shooting your teammates, which will result in 0 XP and no crate. The Elimination crate has 6 slots, each one representing a different item you can receive. Check out the table below to get a better understanding of how rewards from the crate are distributed.

  • Slot 1 Reward: Weapons
  • Slot 2 Reward: Consumables
  • Slot 3 Reward: Weapon Plan/Materials
  • Slot 4 Reward: Resources
  • Slot 5 Reward: Weapons and Consumables
  • Slot 6 Reward: Food, Cosmetics, Crowns

The question now is, “What if I’m on the losing team?” Don’t worry, you won’t leave empty handed! If your score is over 1000, you will receive a common crate, as well as an XP reward to compensate your time spent in Elimination mode. This applies to all team members, except for those with a score less than 300.

Vigor: Season 9

More Bug Fixes And Changes

You’ll be happy to know that the Portable Signal Detector bug has been fixed! The PSD will no longer ping a random person in the lobby but the closest one to your location as intended. In addition, we have also fixed the Legacy Season visual bug where the icon of a crate is displayed instead of the icon of the reward once you claim it. We have also made a few fixes on the AK-M and RPK recoils so they should feel much smoother now. The last batch of fixes include the fix on the H-BAR bi pod clipping with sights, and in the crafting menu you can now equip consumables 1-by-1 as a default instead of stacks. Last but not least, we have swapped the “git gud” text while the leaderboards are loading with something more appropriate.

Czech Out Our New Localization

Great news for people who want to play Vigor in Czech. You can finally do so with Season 9 because we’ve added Czech localization to the game! You might find it funny that a Czech game developer didn’t have the Czech language included in the game from the beginning, but better late than never, right?

Stay Tuned For More Anniversary Events

We want to thank you again for sticking with us through thick and thin over the last two years! We really appreciate our community because without you and your valuable feedback, we wouldn’t be able to push ourselves to constantly improve the game and provide you with a better gaming experience!

We've prepared a lot of fun and interesting activities during our anniversary week, so keep your eyes open for more info. And here’s to another year full of vigorous events!

We hope you're as excited for Season 9 as we are, and that you’ll enjoy throwing a grenade or two around.

As always, see you in the Outlands!
