Random: VTuber Korone Plays Gyro-Enabled GBA Title WarioWare Twisted! With A GameCube

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 07:15 PM PDT

Not even Wario is this crazy.

VTubers (known in full as Virtual YouTubers) have become incredibly popular over the past decade. While we're used to seeing these digital characters voiced by real people playing video games, it's not every day we see something this weird...

Japanese VTuber 'Korone' - who has 1.7 million subscribers on YouTube - recently broadcast a gaming stream where she apparently used a GameCube instead of a Game Boy Advance to play the gyro-enabled GBA classic, WarioWare Twisted!. It's all because she wasn't able to use a GBA to stream, so she just plugged in a "whole console" instead. And although it was a lot harder to play, it was quite the experience, as you can see above.

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 06:15 PM PDT

Techland is trying to get it lifted.

As you might have heard, Dying Light Platinum Edition has arrived on the Nintendo Switch and it's been described by the folks over at Digital Foundry as another "intelligently designed port" for the hybrid system.

If you happen to be located in the UK, across Europe, or even Australia and New Zealand though, you might not actually be able to purchase it. Yep, if you are in any of these regions - the digital version of the game isn't actually available on the Switch eShop right now.

Anniversary: We've Almost Been Watching Nintendo Direct Presentations For 10 Years Now

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 05:30 PM PDT

Can you believe it?

Nintendo is obviously one of the pioneers of the games industry, and from time to time, it still comes up with groundbreaking ideas that change and shape how people consume and play video games around the world.

One of its more genius moments over the past decade (at least from a business/marketing perspective) was the creation of "Nintendo Directs" - special broadcasts that were able to take place at any time and on any date and were entirely focused on Nintendo's systems and the games coming to these platforms.

Tunche Gets A Switch Release Date, So You Can Save The Amazon Rainforest As Hat Kid

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 12:00 PM PDT

Five playable characters and co-op supported.

Initially expected back in March, there is now a confirmed release date for Tunche on Switch; it arrives on 2nd November. A fun little fact about the game is that one of its playable characters is Hat Kid from A Hat In Time, if you fancy a blast from the Indie past.

If you haven't come across Tunche before it's a beat 'em up with a hand-drawn aesthetic, which you can play solo on in local co-op for up to four players. There is a roguelike feel as each run will gain you experience to learn new abilities, but with five playable characters to master there should be decent variety.

Feature: 8 Games That Missed Nintendo Hardware

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 10:00 AM PDT

The most mysterious omissions in Nintendo history.

Any longtime Nintendo fan knows that the company's third-party publishing partners can be fair-weather friends. Plenty of the industry's biggest franchises have been absent from Nintendo hardware for quite some time. In some cases, Nintendo's own bold decisions over cartridges and standard definition gaming have cost them key entries in series that were once synonymous with their brand.

But, thanks to the Switch's popularity, some of the most infamous games to skip Nintendo hardware have come home. Square's ambitious Final Fantasy VII was once too big to fit on an N64 cart, a factor in driving the longtime Nintendo partner to opt for optical disc media on Sony's PlayStation. The move apparently had Nintendo telling Square "never come back."

Super Animal Royale Adds A New Mode For "Howloween" Event

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 08:30 AM PDT

Yep, Zombie Chickens.

There are quite a few decent free-to-play options on the Switch eShop, and one of the quirkier offerings is Super Animal Royale. Yes, it's in the Battle Royale category, but opts for top-down gameplay and a quirky vibe; it's not perfect, but we gave it a recommendation in our review.

Today at noon Pacific / 3pm Eastern / 8pm UK / 9pm CEST it'll update and launch its "Howloween" event, which will run until 9th November. The headline addition is The Bwoking Dead, an infection mode of 40 players in which four will be chosen at random to be 'infected' and target others. Meanwhile there'll be a 'candy corn' currency to collect and earn which can be used on seasonal bits-and-bobs.

Developed by Fabraz (Slime-san), it blends 2D and 3D platforming with a broad range of environments and some big-scale boss fights.

As you can see in the trailer above it's got a rather quirky style to help it stand out; like Slime-san it looks set to throw in a lot of content and replayability, too:

Review: Crysis Remastered Trilogy - A Slick FPS Package That Runs Fine On Switch

Posted: 19 Oct 2021 06:00 AM PDT

Nothing to cry about.

When we first heard that Crytek was bringing Crysis to Switch in remastered form, we seriously doubted that Nintendo's dinky little console could handle the stress of running this PC-melting behemoth, even if it was now 13 long years down the line in terms of technology. As our review of that game points out, however, we were absolutely wrong to doubt the slick porting skills of Saber Interactive.

Now the full Crysis Remastered Trilogy has finally landed, but with two sequels (available separately or as a trilogy bundle) that up the ante in terms of both spectacle and graphical intensity, can the Switch still deliver? Well, yes it can. In fact, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3 run even better than their predecessor here, probably thanks to Crytek taking scalability into consideration when the sequels were originally developed. So grab your Nanosuit, get your cloak engaged and let's go hunt some Ceph.
