Nvidia Is Being Sued By The FTC Over ARM Merger Posted: 02 Dec 2021 01:31 PM PST Nvidia has encountered another hurdle in its pursuit to acquire semiconductor design company ARM. The Federal Trade Commission is now suing Nvidia over the potential merger, following complaints by Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, and more after it was announced in September last year. The FTC claims that Nvidia is set to gain an unfair competitive advantage by taking ownership of ARM, given that the open-source designs are used by many of its competitors. The FTC is worried about how Nvidia might steer the future of ARM for its own purposes, as well as use inside information on how its competitors are using the designs to give the company a competitive edge in future semiconductor designs. "Tomorrow's technologies depend on preserving today's competitive, cutting-edge chip markets," stated FTC Bureau of Competition director Holly Vedova, via The Verge. "This proposed deal would distort Arm's incentives in chip markets and allow the combined firm to unfairly undermine Nvidia's rivals. The FTC's lawsuit should send a strong signal that we will act aggressively to protect our critical infrastructure markets from illegal vertical mergers that have far-reaching and damaging effects on future innovations." Spider-Man: No Way Home Gets New IMAX Trailer Posted: 02 Dec 2021 01:22 PM PST A new trailer promoting the IMAX version of Spider-Man: No Way Home has been released, emphasizing the 26% more picture only available in these screenings. The highly-anticipated sequel swings to theaters on December 17. This clip unfortunately doesn't offer any huge reveals or big surprises about the film--though the silver lining is, of course, we won't have to wait too much longer anymore to see Spider-Man: No Way Home start to finish. Ticket pre-orders recently went live, with the added incentive from AMC and Sony to offer exclusive NFTs to the first 86,000 fans who scoop them up before theatrical release. Check out the new clip below.
Spider-Man: No Way Home promises to pit Spidey against a ton of villains, including villains featured in Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, and The Amazing Spider-Man. Holland confirmed in the same interview that Jamie Foxx's Electro, featured in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will appear in the film as well. In addition to Spidey, Holland's Uncharted film is on the way. Meanwhile, Disney recently delayed the entire 2022 slate of MCU films. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

Windows 11 Is Getting Much-Needed Changes To Its Taskbar Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:48 PM PST Windows 11 has been out for over two months now, but you're not alone if you're missing some standard features from Microsoft's previous operating system. One of the biggest, and most confusing changes, is that of the more limited taskbar, something which Microsoft is aiming to fix soon. Some of the most common complaints with Windows 11 and its taskbar involve just how much has been stripped from it. Users with multi-monitor setups have lamented the fact that the time and date aren't mirrored across all displays, making is impossible to check the time when gaming without minimizing or using a third-party app. Similarly, some users are frustrated that you can no longer drag and drop files to applications minimized to the taskbar, making overall navigation a whole lot worse. Users with access to the Windows 11 development channel, however, are already seeing fixes for these issues. The multi-monitor support for the time and date is back, while new options will let you customize the new start menu to have more, or less, pinned apps and folders. The testing also shows that Microsoft is planning to integrate more Control Panel features into the native settings app, with Advanced Sharing settings now being move into their own tab. It seems Microsoft's shift away from Control Panel entirely isn't that far away. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
The Matrix Awakens PSN Leak Suggests Unreal Engine 5 Experience Is On The Way Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:35 PM PST The PlayStation Network may soon be entering the Matrix...or rather, the Matrix may soon be entering the PlayStation Network if an image that's popped up on Reddit is to be believed. According to a user on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, an image for "The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience" has been unearthed by searching through the files in PSN's backend. The image depicts a city with the franchise's iconic green code, with the logo floating in the sky. ![]() Nothing else is known about this "Unreal Engine 5 Experience," those it is worth noting that it is using the newest version of Epic Games' engine. While there are games in development using UE5, nothing has launched yet. New Dying Light 2 Gameplay Shows Off Brutal Combat And Parkour Skills Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:33 PM PST With only a few months left to go before it launches in February, Dying Light 2 developer Techland has been ramping up the gameplay reveals for its upcoming post-apocalyptic sandbox. The latest deep dive into the gameplay was hosted by streamer Leah and Jonah Scott, the voice behind Dying Light 2's protagonist Aiden Caldwell, and focused on new obstacles that players will have to overcome. Those challenges naturally include dilapidated buildings and hordes of flesh-craving zombies, but they're nothing that brutal in-game combat and traversal mechanics can't overcome in this new dark age. The new episode had some handy gear and abilities to show off, such as a paraglider that can be used to get to buildings, a skill that allows you to throw people to their doom, and the handy running dropkick to send enemies flying. FFXIV Full 6.0 Patch Notes Detail Changes To Jobs Posted: 02 Dec 2021 12:25 PM PST FFXIV's Endwalker early access is so close--there's less than 24 hours on the clock--and yet so far away. In the meantime, you can entertain yourself by reading the full FFXIV 6.0 patch notes. A preliminary 6.0 patch notes version was released earlier, and the full version differs by the following major additions: full tweaks and updates to Jobs (located in a separate Job Guide page), details about crafting and gathering classes' new actions and traits, and a list of fixed bugs and known issues. We also know the name and location of the first Main Scenario Quest in Endwalker now. It's called The Next Ship To Sail. To accept the quest, you'll need to talk to Alphinaud in the Rising Stones (X: 6.0 Y: 5.9). Obviously, you'll need to have completed Shadowbringers and have a level 80 job before embarking on the first step into Endwalker. While checking out a few of the Job tweaks--this writer's main, Red Mage, and Yoshida's main, Black Mage--it appears that the changes are generally in line with what was announced during the Live Letter livestream broadcasted a few months ago. Reservation Dogs Co-Creator Sterlin Harjo Developing Heist-Thriller Series For FX Posted: 02 Dec 2021 11:18 AM PST Reservation Dogs co-creator Sterlin Harjo is developing a new FX miniseries with a Native female lead, according to Variety. Plot details have not yet been released, but the show will reportedly be a heist-thriller miniseries. Reservation Dogs was notable for exclusively featuring Indigenous writers and directors--along with an almost entirely Indigenous North American cast and production team. Reservation Dogs was renewed for Season 2 back in September, and recently won a Gotham Film Award for Breakthrough Series. Harjo co-created the series with Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit). "As longtime friends, it was only natural that Taika and I found a project together, and what better than a show that celebrates the complementary storytelling styles of our Indigenous communities--mine in Oklahoma and Taika's in Aotearoa," said Harjo, when Reservation Dogs was announced in 2020. "We're thrilled by the opportunity to tell the Reservation Dogs' story with our amazing cast and crew." Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Destiny 1 Loot Cave Returns In Bungie's 30th Anniversary Dungeon Posted: 02 Dec 2021 11:14 AM PST Bungie's 30th Anniversary content drop is coming to Destiny 2 on December 7, but there are still a lot of details about it we don't know. The new Steam listing for the DLC, as reported by Kotaku, gives more information about what we can expect from its new activities and rewards. The centerpiece of the 30th Anniversary content is a new dungeon, which Bungie previously told fans is based on Destiny 1's Cosmodrome loot cave, where players spent hours farming enemy kills for tons of loot shortly after the game was released. Bungie quickly patched out the ability to exploit the cave, but it's etched in Destiny history. The 30th Anniversary DLC's Steam page finally gives this dungeon a name: Grasp of Avarice. It tells a story about "riches and regret as you follow an adventurer who traded his humanity for treasure." ![]() Seeing that Bungie has been teasing images of Xur while showing snippets of the upcoming activities, it wouldn't be a stretch to think that this story may be about Xur. Guardians have known Xur for years and all we can find is his location, and nothing else. Xur's reflection is visible in the initial image showing the dungeon's treasures during the With Queen showcase. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

How Hawkeye Could Be Introducing The Netflix Marvel Universe To The MCU Posted: 02 Dec 2021 10:20 AM PST
With Hawkeye on Disney+ already hitting the half-way point and Spider-Man: No Way Home just around the corner, the MCU's banner 2021 is gearing up to close out the year with a bang--and, as it turns out, all those theories the internet has been collectively melting down over with regard to the inclusion of some non-MCU Marvel characters might actually be onto something. And no, we're not talking about all the Sony characters showing up in No Way Home. In the third episode of Hawkeye, appropriately titled "Echoes," we got our first look into the life of Maya Lopez, the titular Echo, a deaf anti-hero turned hero from Marvel comics who is making her official MCU debut in the show. Played by Alaqua Cox, this version of Maya has a personal vendetta against Ronin, who took out her family on his bloody, serial-killing rampage during the space between Infinity War and Endgame. This all deviates a bit from her comic book origin--though not as much as you might think. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Dune Survival Game Will Feature Vehicular Gameplay, Pants-Pooping Status Unclear Posted: 02 Dec 2021 10:10 AM PST Funcom is working on a multiplayer-focused survival game set in author Frank Herbert's Dune universe, and now development studio NUKKLEAR is being brought on to help bring the project to completion and lend their expertise when it comes to the game's vehicles. NUKKLEAR isn't a well-known name, but recently has helped develop games like the Destroy All Humans remake and vehicle-focused Everspace. The developer also released helicopter shooter Comanche earlier this year. NUKKLEAR will help co-develop Dune after having recently received a 1.6 million euro grant from the German government. The experience NUKKLEAR brings to the table in terms of vehicle focused games seems to be of special interest to Funcom CEO Rui Casais, who in a press release says Funcom has "benefited particularly from their expertise in vehicular-based gameplay." Casais states that Dune is the most ambitious project Funcom has ever worked on. The game's scope grew in size following Chinese media giant Tencent's acquisition of Funcom in 2020. As such, Casais states that having skilled and reliable partners like NUKKLEAR is a must. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
