Batman Invades Hot Wheels Unleashed in Latest Expansion Pack Posted: 02 Dec 2021 02:00 PM PST Batman will finally land in Hot Wheels Unleashed! You can only imagine the team's excitement when we managed to have a chance to work with DC Comics… with the Batman himself! All the dev team was trembling in excitement to see what kind of amazing stuff we could do. People started to instantly brainstorm ideas, pitching concepts about the environment, finding new cars to add and, last but not least, creating a new module for the Track Editor! The Batcave was one of the biggest and most challenging features we had to face. Its creation took a lot of time and effort, trying to recreate the same vibes that people are used to when they refer to the Batman. The Batmobile was one of the main pillars around the entire environment had to revolve around: we wanted to recreate it at its finest, so that players could sprint, drift and race all around it, spotting all the small details that make it so unique and fascinating. ![]() I may not say this, but I suggest you to explore the entire Batcave, though: we had the chance to sneak in some nice Easter Eggs directly from the DC Comics world that we think you'll enjoy. I'd love to see if you'll manage to find them all. With heroes you can expect villains as well: that is why, together with the Robin 2.0T, Batman Rebirth, and Armored Batman cars, you'll get The Penguin and The Joker GT. Get ready to compete with your friends and see who's the fastest! ![]() On top of all of this, we'll be adding the Joker Funhouse Split: this is a new animated module for the Track Editor that you'll see inside some of the tracks that we've created specifically for the Batcave. The Joker Funhouse Split will keep on your toes as you'll have to decide which side to race around the Joker while his hammers will smash you into the ground or send you flying! Working with DC Comics and being able to portray the amazing Batman's Batcave and some of the different car's from DC Comics has been an honor and it was fun to see this world getting together with Hot Wheels. Hope you'll enjoy racing in the Batcave at least as much as we enjoyed creating it! The Hot Wheels – Batman Expansion is available now on the Xbox Store. HOT WHEELS™ – Batman ExpansionMilestone S.r.l. $14.99 Batman™ fans -one and all- certainly can't miss this expansion dedicated to the Dark Knight, which puts you among the most famous criminals and heroes of Gotham City. They will have to face the power of vehicles like Armored Batman™, Batman™ Rebirth and Robin™ 2.0T, who are ready to do battle with anyone who stands in between them and justice… or in this case, the finish line. A fantastic new environment is waiting for you to race and build tracks worthy of this epic challenge between good and evil, with a new themed module! The Season Five Plunder Pass can also be purchased separately, enhancing your pool of Seasonal rewards with premium goodies not yet available anywhere else! Find out more in our Seasons Explained and Plunder Pass Explained articles. Quest for Treasure Enough of only digging up other pirates' spoils – finally, you can bury your own! Season Five now allows you to fulfil that crucial part of any pirate fantasy, by letting you bury almost any item and create a map leading right back to it. You can do this purely for safekeeping, or post your map on the new Quest Board at the nearest Outpost and challenge other crews to seek it out. ![]() If another crew successfully finds the location of your buried treasure, you'll earn a healthy dose of Renown. Just be careful when following other players' maps taken from the Quest Board – you can never be sure if what's been hidden away is prime loot or something not quite so desirable… Set Things Off with a Bang Whether you're kicking off celebrations or just sending up a flare, Season Five brings in some explosive ordinance for pyrotechnically inclined pirates! Fireworks come in a spectrum of different colors and designs, and can be found in barrels around the Sea of Thieves or bought in themed Firework Crates from the Merchant Alliance. If you've found yourself in a spot of trouble, there are also Signal Flares to help you signal to passing crews that you'd appreciate a little help. ![]() Fireworks and Signal Flares alike can be fired from cannons, even from the prow of the Cannon Rowboat – a new mini-craft for any pirate who likes the idea of being a one-person demolition team! These new features are accompanied by numerous quality of life updates to improve in-game immersion, whether it's sitting and sleeping, passing the time on board with new shanties and dice emotes, whispering to crewmates by turning your speaking trumpet around or watching rats scurry around your sinking ship. Plus of course there's a new crop of time-limited Events, kicking off with our annual celebration of charity, the Festival of Giving, and the traditional end-of-year bash, Grogmanay. Throw yourself into the spirit of the season to earn some festive cosmetics! Also included is the evolving Creeping Cold Costume, which transforms as you progress through the Season's 100 levels, and the adorable Sand Angel Emote. A special festive haul of 750 Ancient Coins is also included, which – combined with the 250 already earnable through Seasonal progression – lets you recoup the cost of the Plunder Pass if you reach a high enough level! ![]() The Pirate Emporium's range of wares inspired by Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean also gets a boost in Season Five: the fearsome Royal Revenge ship and weapon sets, Captain Barbossa Costume and Mutinous Mutt pet all evoke tales of one of the most treacherous captains who ever sailed the seas… Find Out More For more information on the Sea of Thieves Season Five update, including full release notes, visit the Sea of Thieves website. Townscaper, the Instant Town-Building Toy, Is Now on Game Pass Posted: 02 Dec 2021 08:00 AM PST When the pandemic hit, Oskar Stålberg (who worked on another Raw Fury title, Bad North) hit the keys and brought to life one of the most charming titles (we’re definitely #notbiased) to come out this year — Townscaper! Townscaper is more like a toy than a game. By using a grid situated over a serene sea, each click seamlessly creates structures both large and small. Combining buildings will allow you, beautiful builders, to create quiet hamlets or sweeping cathedrals, lighthouses, or soaring sky-cities. Townscaper‘s accessible gameplay can be easily enjoyed by all with its simple controls, no time limit pressure, and an underlying algorithm that allows players to intuitively create their dream ocean-side town with only a few button presses. ![]() The uses of Townscaper extend past its original intent as a relaxing, meditative experience. Folks from around the internet are using Townscaper in the most ingenious ways to create brand new works of art! We’ve got a few faves, but you can find lots more by searching #Townscaper on Twitter To top it all off, those with access to a 3D printer will love that you now have the ability to export models straight from the game (texture maps and all) to print at home! From fan comics, art projects, and even tabletop RPG map generation, Townscaper is finding its home all over the internet and beyond! The Townscaper community has already blown us away with their creations which we’ve started sharing on the Raw Fury Twitter each week for those that tag us in their social post! What are you doing still reading this — Go grab your controller and get building already! ![]() TownscaperRaw Fury $4.99 PC Game Pass Xbox Game Pass Build quaint island towns with curvy streets. Build small hamlets, soaring cathedrals, canal networks, or sky cities on stilts. Block by block. No goal. No real gameplay. Just plenty of building and plenty of beauty. That's it. Townscaper is an experimental passion project. More of a toy than a game. Pick colors from the palette, plop down colored blocks of house on the irregular grid, and watch Townscaper's underlying algorithm automatically turn those blocks into cute little houses, arches, stairways, bridges and lush backyards, depending on their configuration. Warframe: The New War Launches December 15 Posted: 01 Dec 2021 02:00 PM PST A Cinematic Quest Guide to Help Players Prepare for Warframe’s Biggest Expansion YetWe are just two weeks away from Warframe's biggest and most anticipated cinematic expansion, The New War, arriving on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S on December 15. Our next Quest is the latest chapter of a storyline that has spanned several years in the making. This climactic event will deliver all the twists our players have come to expect from us and answers some big questions players have been asking over the years. There might even be a few new questions presented to players, teasing a bit of where we may take the story of Warframe next year. For new and returning players who are trying to catch-up before The New War launches, we've developed a quick guide to help assist in your efforts of preparing for the action ahead.
Warframe is Not Just a Looter Shooter. We Also Offer a Massive Story Driven Campaign. Old and new enemies will emerge to wage war and a new Warframe will arrive, so players should prepare for the imminent invasion by catching up on some of the best kept secrets in gaming, our spoiler heavy, single-player story-based quest campaign. Most gamers know Warframe as a cooperative action game, but they might not know that we also have a cinematic space opera-level storyline spreading over 6 years and unfolding for players across 16 Planets, 3 Open Worlds, 47 Warframes, and 13 Cinematic Quests. We encourage you to embark on your very own action-packed cinematic story of space exploration and self-discovery before The New War arrives in order to have the full context for all the events that will unfold. Step: #1 Begin Your Personal Space Opera Today with Warframe's Cinematic Quests New players don't need to wait until The New War arrives to begin an action-packed adventure as an unstoppable space warrior. There are more than 30 hours of Quests available for you to experience today, all for free. As a new player, you'll uncover the critically-acclaimed Cinematic Quest that has left the Origin System in a state of all-out-war. Playing as Tenno, you'll find your power through an intimate journey of self discovery as you attempt to restore balance in the Origin System. For additional in-game quest guidance, players can now reference the Tenno Guide, a newly added UI improvement introduced into Warframe to help guide players to completing their next steps. Step: #2 Enhance Your Arsenal and Battle Through Warframe's Epic Star Chart The Sentients are a powerful invading threat coming with The New War and you'll need to be prepared with more than just a Warframe that has some powerful abilities to get the job done right. The New War leverages some of Warframe's most thrilling features that you'll unlock on your journey across the Origin System. Some of this equipment is built over time in the Orbiter Foundry and some is unlocked by completing certain quests.
![]() Step: #3 Unlock The New War By Completing the Quest Codex Warframe is an ever-expanding game – there's a lot to do and experience if you're a new player. While all our content is visually rich and full non-stop action-combat that players love, there are select quests which can be revisited at a later time and are not considered a critical path to joining the action of The New War on launch day. The following Quests below outline the critical path to prepare for The New War when it arrives for Xbox players on December 15.
New players are able to experience the full storyline, from the first Cinematic Quest, Vor's Prize, where Tenno Awaken, to NATAH where they learn more about The Lotus and The Second Dream, where players discover who they really are and learn more about The Old War. The story gets even more expansive with The War Within and The Chimera Prologue, where Tenno uncover the truth of their past to help shape their future, ultimately destabilizing the Origin System leading to all-out-war and setting the stage for The New War, the latest expansion coming December 15. Warframe is now available and is free to play and download for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. ![]() WarframeDigital Extremes Warring factions have brought the Origin System to the brink of destruction. Rainbow Six Siege Kicks Off New Season, High Calibre, with New Operator and More Posted: 01 Dec 2021 11:00 AM PST There's a deadly new gadget popping up in Rainbow Six Siege matches today with the launch of its new season, titled High Calibre. The new season introduces an Irish Defender named Thorn – available now through the premium track of the High Calibre Battle Pass – who brings proximity-triggered sticky devices called Razorbloom Shells that she can deploy on pretty much any surface. What happens when the device is triggered, you ask? Well, after a short arming period, a bunch of sharp blades are propelled with deadly force in all directions! It's great! Or terrifying, depending on which side you're on. Because of the trigger delay, Razorbloom Shells pair well with Defenders who can slow Attackers down and keep them in its lethal radius, like Melusi, Clash, or anyone with barbed wire. Attackers can destroy or disable the devices in a variety of ways, but the Razorblooms aren't the only new threat Thorn is bringing in High Calibre. ![]() She's also packing a new weapon: the UZK50Gi submachine gun, an entirely new firearm created by the Siege team. Imagine an SMG with a particular vendetta against destructible walls and floors, and you've got the general idea. The UZK50Gi has serious destructive power, thanks to its 50-caliber rounds that give Thorn the ability to reshape the map to suit her strategies. Even if Attackers manage to scout the location of her Razorbloom Shells or react quickly enough to get out of harm's way, Thorn is likely to be waiting nearby to take advantage. And if it's not her UZK50Gi that gets you, she can also select the M870 shotgun as a primary weapon, and the 1911 TACOPS pistol or C-75 Auto machine pistol as her sidearm. You can play as Thorn and wield her impressive loadout today by unlocking the premium track of the High Calibre Battle Pass; she will also be unlockable in two weeks with Renown or R6 Credits. ![]() High Calibre is also bringing some free updates to all Xbox players as part of the season launch. The Outback map has been fully reworked, with an emphasis on better flow, cleaner navigation, and improving bomb sites for more balanced conflicts. Garage heads will find less space dedicated to vehicles and more viable cover positions, giving Defenders a better shot at holding off Attacker ingress. Instead, Attackers might choose to focus on a new exterior breakable wall upstairs near the Party Room & Office bomb site, or to use the new covered-and-restructured Terrace entrance to gain a foothold. Dead by Daylight Delivers Surreal Terror in Portrait of a Murder Chapter Posted: 01 Dec 2021 10:00 AM PST Dead by Daylight's Portrait of a Murder is out now, a visually striking chapter that captures horror through a surreal and nightmarish lens. As our players know, crows have been a long-time staple in the Entity's Realm. The new Killer, The Artist, brings her own murder to the Realm in both her narrative and her gameplay. With the ability to summon Dire Crows and unleash them on a devastating flightpath, she brings dynamic new gameplay possibilities to the action-packed world of Dead by Daylight. Portrait of a Murder also introduces new Survivor Jonah Vasquez — a brilliant codebreaker haunted by a recurring numerical pattern — as well as the Forsaken Boneyard, our first original Realm in nineteen months. Inspired by the fascinating world of surrealist artwork, players will be able to explore a fragment of The Artist's haunted imagination, gaining deeper understanding of her backstory through environmental storytelling. ![]() In celebration of the Portrait of a Murder chapter release, I spoke with Dead by Daylight's Creative Director Dave Richard about the process of bringing The Artist and Jonah Vasquez to life. Q: The Portrait of a Murder Chapter is now releasing. Could you tell us about the production process that led to its creation? A: The idea of a Killer using crows has been with us for as long as there have been crows in Dead by Daylight! As Hitchcock once proved, there is something extra anguishing about being pecked to death by beady-eyed birds. After so many Chapters with so many different fantasies, we wanted to re-explore themes close to our roots through a dark story of inescapable torment and death. The surreal art style of The Artist binds all these elements into the nightmarish landscape, character visuals, and intense gameplay of this Chapter. ![]() Q: Can you tell us a bit about Carmina, The Artist? A: The Artist's soul has been tainted by grief and torment since her brother's tragic death, for which she takes the blame. On the verge of suicide, a murder of crows gathered around her to stop the irreversible. This event was gift and a curse: Carmina lived to accomplish many great deeds, but anguish and torment always followed. The Black Vale ripped her tongue out and cut both her hands to stop her from exposing them through her art. In this moment of ultimate darkness, the crows came back. Fueled by her rage, they killed everyone around and took her back to the realm of The Entity. The Artist is incredibly fun to play. She gives the thrilling sensation of being a raptor on the hunt. Her power is to summon ink crows (known in-game as Dire Crows) that can attack or scout for Survivors. They are incredibly helpful when used strategically to reveal hiding Survivors and begin a frantic chase. Add three Perks with unique twists — including a brand-new Perk type, the Rekindled Totem — and you have one fantastic new character to master and face! ![]() Q: Who is Jonah Vasquez, the new Survivor? A: Jonah is a brilliant agent that is extremely capable in mathematics. Numbers, patterns, and codes speak to him, and he understands it all; it's like magic. One specific pattern of numbers has followed him all his life, eluding him for the longest time. When he finally discovered its meaning, it led him directly to The Entity. Jonah's high intellect and field expertise bring a balanced set of beneficial Perks for solo and team play. "Overcome" extends the speed burst players get when they are hit. "Corrective Action" helps teammates by their ignoring failed skill-checks, which can happen while repairing generators or healing fellow Survivors. "Boon: Exponential" is a brand-new Boon Totem Perk that allows Survivors within its radius to recover faster while in the dying state, picking themselves up from the ground without the aid of another Survivor. Gameplay, narrative, and art design converge in a dynamic and game-changing new addition to the expanding world of Dead by Daylight. Explore the Forsaken Boneyard as The Artist and Jonah Vasquez in the Portrait of a Murder chapter, available now in the Microsoft Store. And that's not all. The holidays are around the corner, and plenty of chilling surprises will be waiting for you in The Fog. But remember, these birds don't fly south for the winter. ![]() Dead by DaylightBehaviour Interactive Inc. $29.99 Xbox Game Pass Ever wished to play as one of the characters from your favorite horror movies? Cracking the Code to Level Design in Rubber Bandits, Coming To Xbox December 2nd Posted: 30 Nov 2021 12:00 PM PST With the upcoming party brawler soon launching on Xbox Game Pass, we go behind the scenes of Rubber Bandits with gameplay and level designers Bo Strandby and Noel Toivio, into the world of game level design at Flashbulb Games. How Did You Decide on the Concept of Rubber Bandits? "Rubber Bandits began as a ragdoll controller similar to QWOP", says Strandby. "Players had to independently move their arms and legs to pass each level." "We developed in different stages, from rampaging Godzilla-style through a tiny city being shot at by tanks, to a physics-based brawler where characters smashed environments and fought with proper weapons." ![]() "It was originally going to be a knight-themed brawler called Just A Flesh Wound, like Monty Python's 'Holy Grail'movie", adds Toivio. "That's true," laughs Strandby, "Then Lasse (Middelbo Outzen, Lead Artist at Flashbulb Games) came into the office really excited one day and announced, 'We're going to call it Rubber Bandits, and it's about cops and robbers.' He came up with the idea of collecting loot, and we built it up from there." How Did You Start Designing the Levels in Rubber Bandits? "We had five levels to start with," Strandby begins. "We had a dodgeball level, a hurdles level, and one where players had to rush gold bars from a tank to a truck." "The level is supposed to be a canvas for the gameplay," says Toivio. "While we had some level design ideas already, we wanted the themes to come second to the gameplay. "The team decided it would be more fun if you could interact with environmental elements in the game, like cars. So, we created the 'Streets' city level with high-speed obstacles to avoid." "We had to be careful with Rubber Bandits, though," Toivio continues, "as many popular games have these big shifting levels, like factories, that didn't work with the theme of bandits." "I mean, who's trying to rob a factory?" laughs Strandby. "Exactly!" agrees Toivio. "If it didn't correlate strongly with the theme, we just didn't use it. Instead, we adapted this into an airport level, which uses conveyor belts, luggage, and jet engines as obstacles instead." ![]() What Level Design Aspects Changed Most During Development? "Previously, we used a countdown for remaining players when one player escaped the level," explains Strandby. "Then, Mikkel (Thorsted, Creative Director at Flashbulb Games) had the idea of re-introducing players as cops to take down other bandits." "Noel was skeptical," Strandby continues, "but then it helped to enforce the cops-and-robbers theme. Sometimes you imagine it differently in prototype, and then it makes more sense when you play it." "The cops aspect also plays into the players' instinct to protect their own win, and take down their friends," explains Toivio. "People really want to win, and they don't realize just how much." What were the Biggest Obstacles When Creating the Rubber Bandits Levels? "We struggled with telling people that they're still playing, even if they think they've finished," says Toivio, regarding players' changeover from bandit to cop. "We tried to keep attention with UI, text elements, countdowns, and other ways to hold attention to the character." ![]() "We learned to create a fun level design that doesn't 'take over'. If your character swings a weapon, you don't want too many tight spaces. Otherwise, the weapon collides with the environment, rather than the opponent. Frustrating!" "And we didn't want to fatigue players," Toivio continues. "There's a few 'breath of fresh air' levels to the gameplay per theme. The breaking floor level in the Museum is ambitious and needs lots of new stuff, but also keeps players on their toes." What were Some of Your Favorite Levels that Didn't Make the Full Game? "We got rid of the hurdles," says Strandby. "That was one of the hardest levels to kill for me." "It's difficult to know when to stop as a developer," agrees Toivio. "Hurdles were there before the Rubber Bandits idea even came about. But it didn't fit the theme." "Some levels are cut-out remnants of the old hurdles level," Strandby continues, "so at least it lives on." What was Your Favorite Level to Design? "The trucks level," says Strandby. "Movement is an illusion – only the trees are moving properly, so you're constrained to throwing stuff at other players, or catching what they throw." "I liked the Bouncy Castle level," laughs Toivio, "but all 25 of them were fun to make. ![]() "My favourite is the Bank hatch level. You flip a switch to flip the bridge over and make players fall. It uses interesting interactive mechanics that feel unique to Rubber Bandits. "Plus one super secret spicy level at the end of Arcade mode…" —Rubber Bandits launches on December 2nd 2021 for Xbox consoles and Xbox Game Pass.
