Feature: Remembering Super Mario 3D Land, 3D World’s Oft-Forgotten Predecessor Posted: 10 Jan 2021 08:00 AM PST A stepping stone in Mario's history that's worth a second look. You don't need me telling you how 2020 was a challenging year, but for dedicated Super Mario fans there were small comforts to be found. After months of rumours, Nintendo celebrated the series' 35th anniversary in dramatic fashion and this brought about no end of content. Before that, even, Super Mario Maker 2 got a huge update in April that added a World Maker, and 3D All-Stars brought us 64, Sunshine and Galaxy onto the Switch in a singular package. Heck, we even got a battle royale game in Super Mario Bros. 35 for some reason, and that doesn't even account for the spin-offs games. Even if the last two games are supposedly only available until March 31st — a fact that's caused no end of controversy — the celebrations aren't yet over. Whilst fans have continued to ponder Galaxy 2's exclusion from 3D All-Stars (something we've got a few theories on), Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury is releasing on Switch next month, joining that ever-expanding line-up of Wii U ports. Amidst these anniversary plans, most 3D entries are getting some renewed love from Nintendo, but 3D World's predecessor has been left in the dark a little, and it scored relatively low in our poll of which remasters you'd like to see on Switch in June last year. For many players, it seems, it barely registered. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

This is our weekly-ish look at two or more retro gaming cover variants from around the globe, and we've got another three contenders lined up to duke it out for your vote. Last time, we took to the slopes for some festive 1080° Snowboarding on N64. Ultimately, it was North America and its CG 'boarder which brought home the bacon with close to half of the overall vote; Europe and Japan shared second place on the podium with 28% each (at the time of writing there's only one vote in it). Video: Here's How Animal Crossing: New Horizons Looks Running At 4K, 60FPS Posted: 10 Jan 2021 05:45 AM PST Now this is island living. Ever wondered what Animal Crossing: New Horizons might look like at a higher resolution and frame rate? Well, wonder no more, as YouTuber SnazzyAI has returned with a brand new video - this time showcasing what Nintendo's island paradise simulator would like in 4K and running at a silky smooth 60fps. Provided you have a 4K screen, you can see it in all its glory. According to SnazzyAI, the art style of Animal Crossing "really meshed" with the AI upscaler, and the AI interpolation also "killed it" this time around. In reality, Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Nintendo Switch renders at 1920 x 1080 docked and 1280 x 720 in portable mode, with the frame rate running at 30fps across both modes. Switch eShop Game Prices Can No Longer Be Below $1.99, Says Death Squared Dev Posted: 09 Jan 2021 09:05 PM PST Nintendo has supposedly implemented "new rules". Nintendo is supposedly putting a stop to small-time developers gaming the Switch eShop charts with dirt-cheap deals by placing a limit on pricing. This information comes from SMG Studios via Reddit. In a brief reply message, it's highlighted how a 99 cents sale on the game Death Squared would be its "lowest price" ever on Nintendo Switch, as "new rules" in place on the Switch eShop now apparently prevent developers from pricing games below $1.99 USD. Obviously, this excludes free-to-play titles. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
