Watch Mythic Quest's Game Testers Test Other Stuff In New Season 2 Promo Posted: 27 Mar 2021 10:00 AM PDT Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet was one of our favorite shows of 2020, and Season 2 is almost here--it arrives on Apple TV+ May 7. To celebrate, Apple has released a promo featuring our favorite game testers, Rachel (Ashly Burch) and Dana (Imani Hakim), testing a variety of non-video-game objects. Rachel and Dana's storyline throughout Mythic Quest Season 1, during which an adorable romance between them began to blossom, was one of the show's highlights. It's fun to see that the actors have great chemistry together as well. Check out the video below. Mythic Quest is a workplace comedy from the creators of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as well as Ubisoft Film & Television and Lionsgate TV. It stars It's Always Sunny's Rob McElhenney as Ian Grimm, the creative director of the titular game Mythic Quest. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Every Game Delayed In 2021 So Far Posted: 27 Mar 2021 09:44 AM PDT With COVID-19 bringing the entire planet to a halt for most of 2020, we saw video games start to get delayed last year. However, the real effect of the pandemic seems to be in games planned for 2021, as teams had to use new work-from-home setups that delayed processes and ultimately often slowed down development. We aren't too far into the year yet, but a number of games have already been delayed, and we've rounded up a list of them all. Games on this list had either concrete release dates or a release window, so certain games announced for 2022 like Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4 were not included. A game also didn't have to be delayed out of 2021 to be on the list--it just had to be delayed. Gran Turismo 7![]() Sony confirmed back in February that Gran Turismo 7 had been delayed into 2022. The decision came as "critical" parts of the development process were affected by the pandemic, and because of the changing nature of the global situation, a firm date wasn't set. As we get closer to next year, that will likely change. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

Astria Ascending Is A Vanillaware-Like JRPG From A Dream Team Posted: 27 Mar 2021 06:12 AM PDT The ID@Xbox stream on March 26 featured more than 100 games and ran for well over three hours, and one of the most-impressive games announced was Astria Ascending. A JRPG from Artisan Studios, it blends a Vanillaware art style with turn-based combat, and its development team includes some of the biggest names in Japanese gaming. Written by Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy VII Remake scribe Kazushige Nojima, and with music composed by Final Fantasy XII's Hitoshi Sakimoto, Astria Ascending stars eight heroes known as the "Demigods," and they're "charged with the fate of the world." The game features a number of different races as well as 20 different classes to choose from, and its story seems to be focused on a fruit known as the "harmelon" that keeps peace between the various groups in Orcanon. "… their fates are doomed, but the world is not," says a line on the Steam page. If you were looking for a story that was all sunshine and rainbows, you should probably look elsewhere. Alongside Final Fantasy and Bravely Default developers, Astria Ascending's team also includes Nier: Automata veterans, and that game isn't exactly known as a lighthearted romp. Monster Hunter Rise Weapons Explainer - Which Weapon Is Right For You? Posted: 26 Mar 2021 06:30 PM PDT One of the most important decisions you'll make in Monster Hunter Rise is which weapon you'll use. While you can switch between weapon types at any point in the game via your item box, you ideally want to only brandish and invest your time into one, and that choice can be somewhat intimidating. After all, there are 14 weapon types in total, each with unique attacks and mechanics. Part of what makes Monster Hunter Rise such a complex game is the rich nuance of each weapon type's capabilities, so locking in on the weapon type that best suits your playstyle takes some time. Fortunately, we've experimented enough with the game's weapons to give you a general overview of what to expect. Below, you can find essential details about each weapon to help you decide which one is right for you. Table of Contents [hide] Close-Range WeaponsIf you prefer being up close and personal with your prey, then you'll want to look to the weaponry below. Close-range weapons make up most of Monster Hunter Rise's armaments, but what makes them fun to use is just how diverse they are in their mechanics and capabilities. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

What To Keep From Zack Snyder's Justice League: A More Humble Batman Posted: 26 Mar 2021 04:49 PM PDT Even wearing a mask with its forehead forever drawn into an angry point, Ben Affleck's Batman seems really sad in Zack Snyder's Justice League. The movie kicks off with Superman's death, and the entire rest of the story is funereal because of it. And almost nobody is mourning harder than Batman--because really, this is all his fault. And here's the thing about Sad Batman: It's one of the best conceptions of the character we've had in a while. To understand why Sad Batman is a good thing for the Dark Knight, we have to understand what, exactly, is making him so sad. That takes us back to Batman v. Superman, the Zack Snyder Superman movie that sets the stage for Justice League. That movie opens with a callback to the movie before it, Man of Steel, in which Superman wrecked a big chunk of Metropolis as he fought the evil Kryptonians led by General Zod. Turns out, Bruce Wayne was in town that day and lived through the horrific destruction wrought by two godlike aliens kicking the crap out of each other in the vicinity of mere mortals. This made Batman angry, and he started to think Superman was not such a great dude. Batman v. Superman is about the two heroes each thinking the other is a bad guy who needs to be brought down. The situation is exacerbated by Lex Luthor, who passes notes between the heroes like he's in middle school. Then Batman and Superman have their iconic "Martha" moment, find common ground, and unite to fight Luthor's new monster, Doomsday. Also Wonder Woman is there. Anyway, Superman dies beating Doomsday and saving the world, but the entire situation could have been avoided if Batman hadn't been so dang stubborn and self-assured about judging who's good and who's bad. Suicide Squad Creator Cameos in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad Posted: 26 Mar 2021 04:15 PM PDT The Suicide Squad's "red band" trailer hit today to near-universal praise. The short trailer was so full of characters and lines that it would be easy to miss even a big Easter egg, so director James Gunn called out his favorite on Twitter.
The cameo was called out first by comics writer (and top-tier Twitter troll) Gail Simone, who has previously worked on Suicide Squad. "Did you see him in the trailer?" Gunn wrote. "It only makes sense that the actual creator of [The Suicide Squad] is the one to put the bombs in the their heads (and it helped that John Ostrander was actually a former actor.)" You're not going to know Ostrander from anything, as he was a theater actor up until the early 1980s, when he moved into writing comics. Since then he's written stories about the Suicide Squad, Batman, Aquaman, the Punisher, the X-Men, and a whole bunch of Star Wars comic books. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Studios Weren't Interested in John Wick At First Posted: 26 Mar 2021 03:48 PM PDT It's not hard to see how much the cinematic landscape has changed in the last 15 years. Record-breaking comic book movies dominate the box office, punctuated by the occasional Fast and Furious film. Keanu Reeves' John Wick is a huge property now, but it took a Fantastic Fest viewing to get executives excited about a small, low-budget action film with spartan VFX and a dense mythology, according to co-director David Leitch in an interview with Deadline. "For [co-director Chad Stahelski] and I, [John Wick] was a struggle financially," Leitch said. "We were first-time directors, co-directing, but we were very cohesive in our vision of what we wanted. I think that we just knew with all the restrictions we had, we wanted to get real good material every day and stay true to the character and get the great performance out of Keanu, and just keep focused on that. Because at that financial level, for all the things that we wanted to do in our minds, we'd had second unit budgets that were bigger than this production's budget and so our appetite was always to pushing the box out. We got the movie cut and edited, and we had a great editor who helped us carve out the story." "We presented that movie to the buyers and..." Leitch began. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Valheim Hearth And Home Expansion: Release Date, Features, And Everything We Know Posted: 26 Mar 2021 03:36 PM PDT Valheim's first big content update will expand your options when building the ultimate Viking purgatory residence, adding new features and objects for developing your bases in the open-world survival game. It's called Hearth and Home, and it's specifically aimed at base improvements, as well as adjustments to food that should make survival in the wilds of Valheim a little more practical. Since Valheim has racked up some six million players, developer Iron Gate Studio has said it's mostly focused on bug fixes, and the massive influx of players has been more than the developer anticipated. But right now, there are four big updates planned for the game, with Hearth and Home being the first. Here's everything we know about it so far. Valheim Hearth And Home Release DateBack in February, Iron Gate released a roadmap of planned additions for Valheim that are coming to the game as it continues in Early Access. That roadmap includes several updates for 2021, the first being Hearth and Home. The roadmap doesn't include firm dates, but given that Hearth and Home was the first on the list, we can probably expect it sooner rather than later. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Fox "Exploring" An Ally McBeal Revival Series - Report Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:50 PM PDT Ally McBeal, the popular Fox legal dramedy that ran for five seasons from 1997 to 2002, is reportedly being considered for a revival, according to Deadline. The report, which repeatedly makes it clear nothing is yet officially moving forward on such a series, says as of this writing the idea of bringing Ally McBeal back is only being "explored." Unnamed sources have told Deadline that original series creator David E. Kelley (Netflix's The Lincoln, ABC's Big Sky) is "expected to have some involvement in the project, but likely not as a writer." Calista Flockhart, who became a household name in the titular role, "has been approached about reprising her role, but there have been no formal talks." In the largely pre-internet and pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe, the series had both the distinction of commanding over 11 million viewers on average across its first three reasons, and also casting Robert Downey Jr., before he ultimately bowed out due to substance abuse issues. In 2021, the series is likely best remembered for it launching Lucy Liu's career, plus featuring a co-ed bathroom and vivid fantasy sequences, including the early internet sensation dubbed "Dancing Baby." GameStop's Big Spring Sale Kicks Off On Sunday Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:42 PM PDT GameStop is gearing up to kick off its next big sale this weekend. The retailer's annual Spring Sale will begin this Sunday, March 28, and run all next week, ending Saturday, April 3. As usual, the GameStop Spring Sale will bring a medley of game deals for PlayStation, Xbox, and Switch as well as discounts on collectibles and accessories. GameStop has released a preview of its Spring Sale deals ahead of time, so we're rounding up the best ones here. The sale doesn't have any particularly mind-blowing offers, but there are a few things worth calling out. There's a preowned games sale that's a good opportunity to snag a bunch of older games for relatively cheap--the offer lets you pick five games for $50 (they must be preowned games under $20 though). In terms of new games, some of the best game deals include Yakuza: Like a Dragon for $40, Little Nightmares II for $20, and Persona 5 Royal for $30. You can also pick up Splatoon 2 for $50--that's not a huge discount, but Splatoon 2 rarely crops up in sales like this, so it's notable. Game deals
Aside from games, accessories and gaming tech are seeing discounts in the GameStop Spring Sale as well. If you have more than one pair of Joy-Cons, you can snag PowerA's Joy-Con Charging Dock for $20, letting you charge four Joy-Con controllers at once. GameStop is also releasing a Razer PC gaming bundle that gets you the Cynosa Lite gaming keyboard, Viper Mini gaming mouse, and Gigantus V2 gaming mouse mat for $70 during the Spring Sale. And if you're in need of a cheap gaming chair, the Victorage gaming chair will be $40 off and is made of thick PVC faux leather, reclines up to 145 degrees, and comes with head and lower back pillows. Two Apex Legends Players Banned For DDoS Attack On Xbox Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:35 PM PDT A pair of top Apex Legends ranked players, or Apex Predators per the game's tier system, have been banned by developer Respawn Entertainment for a DDoS attack on an Xbox server. They'll not be able to play the game again, meaning they're the ones getting a denial of service, if you think about it. A couple of videos hit the Apex Legends subreddit that showed an in-progress game crash after an Apex Predator was knocked down. When the server reconnected, the knocked Apex Predator was revived and standing over the player responsible. The fourth and sixth ranked players in the match were then accused of colluding and performing the "distributed denial of service" (DDoS) attack that overloaded the Xbox servers. The usernames of the Apex Legends players have not been revealed, but the two have been banned, according to Respawn security analyst Conor "Hideouts" Ford. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Nobody's Bob Odenkirk Trained For Two Years To Do His Own Stunts In The Movie Posted: 26 Mar 2021 01:01 PM PDT The recently released revenge-action film Nobody, starring Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Mr. Show), seemed to pop up out of nowhere with a sudden announcement and subsequent theatrical release on March 26. But as Variety is reporting, its star "underwent two years of training to do his own stunts." For the everyman turned action star, it's an impressive amount of dedication, but hardly a shock as hardcore Better Call Saul fans have heard Odenkirk's fitness regimen discussed for years on the Better Call Saul Insider Podcast. (Particularly around the comic actor being directed to make his character less athletic onscreen and pretend to be winded more easily.) In addition to that work, while also filming Better Call Saul, Variety says Odenkirk "trained twice a day for 45 minutes in martial arts with stuntman Bernhardt." Once production got underway for Nobody, that 45 minutes became a total of two hours minimum. "When you have a star who is willing to learn complicated bits of [fight choreography], it becomes a bit easier," director Ilya Naishuller said. "We could do everything without cheating the camera."
