Xbox March Update Prepares For The Xbox Wireless Headset And Refines Backwards-Compatibility

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:19 AM PST

The Xbox March Update has begun rolling out, with support for Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Wireless Headset, feature toggles for backwards compatible games, and more.

Headlining the update is new software support for the Xbox Wireless Headset, which is officially launching later this month. The update will enable you to update your headset wirelessly, but also adjust specific features on the accessory. This includes auto-mute sensitivity for the microphone, equalization profiles, bass-boosting options, and more. These updates will be made available through a Windows 10 update if you plan on using the headset on your PC.

Included in the update is more options for your backwards-compatible games, giving you control over the application of Auto-HDR and FPS Boost. Both features are meant to elevate older gaming titles with modern flourishes, but if you're looking for the unedited experience the March Update will now let you toggle these enhancements on and off for games that support them. You'll find the options in your console settings menu.

World Of Warcraft Shadowlands Patch Notes For 9.0.5: Adds Valor Points, Rebalances Classes

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 09:16 AM PST

World of Warcraft's latest patch drops very soon, and it introduces a litany of small changes that will definitely make a difference to your average player. Though this isn't the major Chains of Domination update that was announced back in February, it does tackle a significant issue that players have been reporting with Shadowlands: an inability to progress through its endgame without participating in PvP, or other content that they might not enjoy as solo players.

In order to alleviate this persistent issue, Patch 9.0.5 reintroduces Valor Points, a currency that players can use to upgrade Mythic+ gear. Though the Valor Points system is still in early stages, it's essentially a currency that players earn when they complete Mythic+ dungeons that they can spend to augment their existing gear, for those times when you don't quite get the drop you wanted from the dungeon. Rare and epic Covenant Callings also award players with Valor.

In terms of other changes, the patch brings minor shifts to many aspects of the game, particularly individual classes. These changes are quite detailed, so if you're looking to learn how your preferred class has been changed, it's probably best to scroll down to the patch notes below. The patch also adjusts Covenant companions to make them slightly more effective in combat.

Watch This Call Of Duty: Warzone Player Get Instant Karma In A Brutal Way

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:43 AM PST

A Call of Duty: Warzone player has been handed a brutal loss after attempting a slick finishing move, only to catapult themself off the map and to their death.

The instant karma moment was captured on the Warzone subreddit and you can watch it below (via GamesRadar). Here's how it went down: the final two players are facing off in the final circle, and one player goes down. The other attempts to conclude the match in style with a punishing finishing move, but the animation of the finisher propels the player into the sea and to their demise.

The downed player ends up winning when they certainly thought all hope was lost. It's a tough way to lose a match, but you have to admire the confidence to try the finishing move in the first place. It certainly would have been an epic way to end the match had it worked out.

Call Of Duty: Warzone's Rumored March 11 Nuke Event May Change The Game Forever

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:31 AM PST

Over the past few weeks, rumors have swirled that Call of Duty: Warzone will soon experience a catastrophic event that will change the face of the game overnight. According to several notable leakers, this hypothetical "nuke event"--named for the nuclear warhead that was found in Bunker 11 back in 2020--will totally destroy the game's Verdansk map on March 11 to coincide with the game's one-year anniversary, clearing the way for a totally fresh locale.

That said, given that these rumors are largely based on the work and opinions of leakers, there's no way to know for sure if anything will happen on March 11. Given that other battle royale games like Fortnite have utilized terrain-changing disasters such as meteor strikes to change up their maps, it doesn't seem too far-fetched to expect Warzone to follow suit, but the exact timing is a mystery to everyone right now.

Back in February, VGC published a report that claimed that Activision would blow up Verdansk in order to transition Warzone from the setting of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare to the '80s-themed Black Ops series. VGC also reported that the nuke was originally scheduled to correspond with the release of Black Ops Cold War last year, but it was delayed. That report suggested that the nuking itself would take place sometime in March or April.

Last Of Us Dev Is Hiring An Economy Designer For A Multiplayer Game With Live Service Elements

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:24 AM PST

The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog is hiring an "economy designer" to help the team with a multiplayer game that includes live operations and player progression.

The job ad states that the successful candidate will help Naughty Dog "create avenues for self-expression for our players, ensure robust longevity to our games, and give our players great rewards to strive for." This all sounds like Naughty Dog is working on a new multiplayer game with cosmetics that players can unlock to personalize their characters.

None of this would be a surprise, as Naughty Dog confirmed more than a year ago that it's working on a standalone Last of Us multiplayer game. However, Naughty Dog has kept very quiet about this in recent months. Many studios are now adopting and embracing live services for their new games, so it would be no shock to see Naughty Dog follow suit in some capacity.

Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin Will Launch On PC Day One

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:17 AM PST

Monster Hunter fans weren't exactly thrilled when Capcom announced that the latest mainline entry in the series, Rise, isn't making its way to PC until 2022. That said, if you're looking for another Monster Hunter game to play in 2021, Monster Hunter Stories 2 will come to both PC and Switch on the same day, July 9.

Rather than focusing on the monster-slaying of the core Monster Hunter titles, Stories instead focuses on Riders who tame the giant beasts of the series in order to saddle up and fly around. A PC version of Stories 2 was rumored as part of the massive leak of Capcom information that happened last year, but this is the first official word on the topic.

Stories 2 will focus on the mysterious disappearance of MH favorite Rathalos and will include familiar monsters such as Pukei-Pukei and Nergigante. (If, like me, you still have bad memories of getting utterly wrecked by Nergi back in Monster Hunter World, hopefully he'll be a little nicer this time.) The first Monster Hunter Stories game originally released on Nintendo 3DS and was later ported to mobile, and it was received fairly well by critics.

Epic Games Buys The Maker Of Photogrammetry Tools To Help Make Games Look More Realistic

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 08:04 AM PST

Fortnite and Unreal Engine company Epic Games is buying another company, this time snapping up the photogrammetry developer Capturing Reality. Epic has spent an unspecified sum to acquire the company to bring its software--RealityCapture--into the Unreal Engine.

Photogrammetry is the process of scanning real-world people, places, and things and using software to convert those images into scans for use in video games or other media. You can check out the video below to get a closer look at how it works.

In a statement, Epic said the Capturing Reality team will "continue to grow and work closely" with Epic's own Unreal Engine team. The goal is to make the Capturing Reality technology more accessible and affordable. This starts right away, as Capturing Reality has already cut prices of its software for new and existing customers.

Outlander's Sam Heughan Would Love To Play James Bond But He Doesn't Want To Jinx It

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:43 AM PST

Actor Sam Heughan, known for his starring role on Outlander, has commented on the possibility of playing James Bond someday. Speaking to Esquire, Heughan said that he would be interested in the part, but he's wary to talk about it over fear of jinxing it.

"I think any actor would never say they're not interested," he said. "Of course, you'd be interested. I mean, it is all rumors, and sometimes you think, should I, should we even talk about it? Because you don't want to jinx it."

Heughan said the producers of the Bond film series "must be sick of it" when it comes to actors throwing their hat into the ring. But the actor said he loves James Bond as a character and would be interested in getting involved in the 007 series if it ever came to be.

WWE's Peyton Royce Gives Passionate Promo Demanding Asuka Match

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:23 AM PST

Peyton Royce is a former WWE Women's Tag Team Champion and has been branching off the past year as a solo star but hasn't received much of a chance in terms of being in the title picture. After Monday Night Raw this week, Royce, real name Cassie McIntosh, delivered one hell of a promo in arguing her case of getting a title shot.

"I'm not here to hide my talents," she said on Raw Talk, Monday night's post-show. "In fact, my talents are hidden by the opinions of others. Why not let me go? Why not let me go and see what happens? Our Raw Women's Champion Asuka is out and, yes, that sucks for her, but when a talent goes down, a spot opens up. And that spot is massive. So why not me?"

Royce went on to say how difficult it was to relocate and pack up her life and move to an entirely different country with no real support system to chase this dream of being a professional wrestler, but she found herself stuck in the system.

Watch Dogs: Legion Update 3.20 Adds Online Mode

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:20 AM PST

Ubisoft has released the long-awaited online mode for Watch Dogs: Legion in its 3.20 update. The title update is now available across all consoles, though as previously announced players on PC and Amazon Luna will have to wait at least a bit longer.

The Legion Online Mode lets you construct a team of DedSec operatives, using the full suite of abilities granted by the game's core "play as anyone" mechanic. That means there are multiple ways to deal with missions depending on the makeup of your team, like a construction worker that grants you special avenues of attack. You can also take part in co-op world events and earn exclusive rewards for playing through with your squad.

Aside from the big online update, the 3.2 patch also includes some general bug fixes. One of those is a missing mask bug that has been a community complaint recently, and all of your missing masks will automatically pop back into your wardrobe after you've downloaded the patch.

Jetpack Joyride 2 Emerges After Almost A Decade

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:11 AM PST

Almost 10 years after the first game was released, Jetpack Joyride is finally getting a sequel that once again stars Barry Steakfries in his quest to stop the latest evil scheme of Dr Brains.

Much like the original game, Jetpack Joyride 2 is an endless runner where players touch the screen to make Barry jump over obstacles and enemies, or maneuver directly over and through more devious traps by using Barry's jetpack.

One big change is that Barry now has a gun in addition to all of his other power-ups, which can be used in segments to take out hovering robot enemies. Don't worry though, Little Stomper is still around and there's even a robot dog sidekick.

Fortnite Zero Crisis Finale Event Revealed For Season 6, And You Can't Miss It

Posted: 09 Mar 2021 07:06 AM PST

Epic Games has announced some crucial details about Fortnite's Chapter 2 Season 6 update involving one of its new events, the Zero Crisis Finale. In a blog post, Epic confirmed how things will go when the big update arrives on March 16. Here's what we know.

Zero Crisis Finale

When the update launches on March 16, Season 5 will officially come to an end. This will involve playing through the conclusion of Agent Jones' mission as part of the Zero Crisis Finale event. "The aftermath of this event is sure to shape Reality as we know it," Epic said.

This Zero Crisis Finale event is a "solo experience," Epic said, and you can play through it whenever you log into Fortnite for the first time when the update comes out. This is a big change from the past, as previous events of this nature were structured more like live events where if you couldn't attend it, or if servers were full, you potentially missed out. Fans complained about this, and it appears Epic listened and is delivering a change.
