Soapbox: Why Do People Love Games Like Stardew Valley And Animal Crossing? Posted: 08 Mar 2021 02:00 PM PST Playing games shouldn't feel like work, right? One of my favourite things to do after a long day of nine-to-five work is crack open a beer, get cosy on the sofa, and play two to five hours of a game where I have a nine-to-five job. It seems ludicrous to spend my free time doing exactly what I do in my non-free time, and yet, here I am - one of millions of people doing tasks for fun and zero profit. In fact, I paid for the privilege to pretend that I have to restore and maintain a struggling farm/tourism spot/tiny café. What gives? Why are games like Harvest Moon, Story of Seasons, Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing so dang popular? Are we just so entrenched in capitalism that we can't even fathom escaping it, and playing a game in an economy-free world? Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Video: WarioWare Could Have So Much Potential On Switch Posted: 08 Mar 2021 12:30 PM PST So why hasn't it happened yet? When you hear the words 'irreverent rapid fire microgames played in quick succession', you hopefully think of WarioWare because we're not sure there's much else that fits that description. These games have always taken advantage of the hardware available to the consoles they're on, from the Wii Remote to the DSi camera, and yet in the age of the Switch and the Joy-Con with all its whizzbang features and fancy gadgetry, we have yet to be graced with a Switch-compatible title. There's so much to unpack that our very own Jon Cartwright simply had to put Tetris 99 down for just a moment and ponder what could be done with the series on Switch. From the IR camera to HD Rumble, there's so much potential it's bordering on criminal. Give the video above a watch to see what he has to say with his mouth sounds. Random: The Author Of World War Z Just Released A Minecraft Novel, And It's Playable, Too Posted: 08 Mar 2021 12:00 PM PST From now on, we're only reading books that have Minecraft maps. Did you know about the official Minecraft novelisations? There are quite a few already, boasting authors who penned the novelisations of Star Wars movies, Dungeons and Dragons quest writers, and multiple New York Times bestsellers. Max Brooks, author of World War Z (which was made into a movie starring Brad Pitt) is not new to the Minecraft novelverse, as he published Minecraft: The Island back in 2017, which is all about a lone castaway surviving on a mysterious island made entirely of blocks. But Brooks is back with a second story: Minecraft: The Mountain, a sequel in which the lone castaway, Guy, meets another stranded survivor, Summer, - on a mountain this time! Polymega Release "Still On Track" Despite Production Problems Posted: 08 Mar 2021 11:30 AM PST Business licence suspension also being resolved. What a rollercoaster ride the Polymega has been. When it was first announced the excitement was palpable; here was an all-in-one solution for retro fans which would allow them to harness their existing collection of games and play them with modern creature comforts, such as save states, patches and HD output. Such an epic venture was always going to be prone to some delays, but Polymega has been pushed back more than once, with its latest (tentative) release window being February (yes, the month just gone). The machine has missed this revised release window, with reports from Japan suggesting that production has been delayed by the ongoing civil unrest in Myanmar. NK Trading Co., Ltd., the Japanese distributor of the system, has stated that "satisfactory supply cannot be provided"; it is also citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a contributing factor. NK Trading is aiming for a shipment within the year (it's not known if this refers to the calendar year or the financial year, the latter of which ends at the start of April) but notes that it is, at present, "difficult to predict an accurate schedule." It was reported that this production delay is also believed to impact North American and European orders. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |

Valheim On Switch? Port Wizards Panic Button Would Love To Help Make It Happen Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:30 AM PST "I would love to port that to Switch". Sandbox survival title Valheim is currently causing quite a storm in the world of indie gaming, selling over 5 million copies in the space of a month to become one of the most-played titles on Steam. It's also had rave reviews, and when that happens, it's inevitable that people start talking about console ports. Created by a five-person development team, Valheim places you in the Viking afterlife and expects you to craft, built and fight in order to succeed. As is the case with so many popular games these days, there's a social element to this challenge; you can face-off against other players or create groups of up to nine people to tackle Valheim's often brutal world as a team. Apex Legends On Switch Will Offer Cross-Play But Not Cross-Progression - For Now, At Least Posted: 08 Mar 2021 08:05 AM PST "I think we're a ways out from being able to offer that". Apex Legends arrives on Switch tomorrow, and we were lucky enough to sit down with the team behind the port recently. One of the questions many fans have wanted answering related to cross-progression – an understandable request given that many people are already playing the game on other platforms, and want to continue that progress on Switch. The Dynasty Warriors Live-Action Movie Will Finally Release Next Month Posted: 08 Mar 2021 05:30 AM PST Filming finished in 2017. Movie adaptations of games don't exactly have the best reputation, and usually for good reason. We've seen recent exceptions like Sonic The Hedgehog – and Mortal Kombat at least looks promising – but historically, a lot of them have turned out terribly. Dynasty Warriors is next in line, and it's arriving on April 30th in China and Hong Kong. A new trailer promises the large-scale battles Koei Tecmo's hack-and-slash series is known for, covering the Yellow Turban Rebellion that led to the fall of Dong Zhuo. That's quite significant as it's also the opening event for Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the novel Dynasty Warriors is based on. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Talking Point: Here's Why You Shouldn't Be Worried About The Rumoured Switch Pro's 720p Screen Posted: 08 Mar 2021 05:05 AM PST When "just enough" is "good enough". The "Switch Pro" is on its way – at least, that's what a report from Bloomberg is telling us. The outlet has spoken to a source close to Nintendo's production line and has stated that an updated version of the console is coming soon, boasting a 7-inch, OLED panel with a 720p resolution. While it's also being reported that the new Switch will support 4K output when docked, many people have focused on the console's built-in screen as a point of contention, voicing their displeasure at the fact that the panel isn't getting a resolution bump over the LCD on the current model – something which seems, on paper at least, like an obvious place for improvement. For the record, the standard Switch has a 6.2-inch screen while the Switch Lite has a 5.5-inch panel. Both use LCD technology and offer a 720p image. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
