It's 10th March today and that means it's officially Mario day. While there's a sale and more to celebrate Mario's 35th anniversary, unfortunately, Nintendo's Japanese customer support Twitter account has dampened the mood with yet another reminder the company will end the Super Mario Bros. 35 service on 31st March 2021.

Last year, Microsoft announced it would be acquiring Bethesda's parent company ZeniMax Media for $7.5 billion. It's now a done deal - with the head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, confirming everything has been finalised.

So, what does this mean for Bethesda games on other platforms such as the Nintendo Switch? In the same Xbox Wire post, Spencer noted how not only would Xbox, PC and Game Pass be the "best place" to play "new Bethesda games" but also how these platforms would be the only way to experience certain future titles.

Ultimate director has finally been verified on Twitter with a blue badge. It's about time considering he's accumulated more than 700,000 followers and is arguably one of the most well-known people within the games industry.

Apart from sharing photos from Smash Bros. on a regular basis, Sakurai occasionally uses the platform to share important messages and updates with fans. In a recent tweet, Sakurai explains how he didn't even request or apply for it himself.

Video: Natsume Releases Trailer For Pocky & Rocky Reshrined, Plus Autumn Release Date

We first found out about the Pocky & Rocky sequel back in September last year, when it was tentatively titled "KiKi KaiKai: Kuro Mantle no Nazo". Today, Natsume Inc. revealed a new teaser trailer for the game, which now bears the title of Pocky & Rocky Reshrined.

The game follows on from the 1992 SNES original, Pocky & Rocky, in that it is also a 16-bit multidirectional top-down shooter, featuring Pocky - a Shinto shrine maiden - and Rocky, her tanuki friend.

Anniversary: It's Super Mario RPG's 25th Birthday!

Don't get too excited - Nintendo likely won't do anything for this one, either.

Let's just ignore the woeful approach of the end of Mario's 35th anniversary, or the completely-ignored 35th anniversary of the Zelda series for a moment. 2021 is also a big year for Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, the game that fused Final Fantasy and Mario to create a timeless, timing-based, turn-based strategy action game that's beloved by pretty much anyone that's ever played it.

We have Super Mario RPG to thank for both the Paper Mario and the Mario & Luigi series...es of games, both of which were spawned out of the collaboration between Square and Nintendo. By adding a story, humour, and plenty of personality to the already-established Mario formula, Square created a game that played with the tools in Nintendo's toybox like never before.

A Musical Story is a narrative about a young man, Gabriel, exploring his memories through music, played as a rhythm game. There is no text, no dialogue - just sweet, sweet music, and the unique visuals of Gabriel's digs, friends, and life.

We're doing the time warp again... and again... and again.

Tell us if you've heard this before: a bunch of characters on a space ship, constantly on edge because at least one of them is not who they seem. They hold meetings and vote off the one they think is the fake while the actual fake tries to hide their identity and kill everyone off one by one.

We're talking, of course, about Gnosia (not that other game), a visual novel with RPG elements that was originally released for the PS Vita in 2019 but has found a new home on the Nintendo Switch. There's a lot to enjoy in this game, which feels like a combination of Among Us and Danganronpa. From clever design to a diverse cast of characters, Gnosia is a deceptively deep experience hiding behind a simple premise.

During yesterday's Monster Hunter Digital Event, Capcom revealed that Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin will be receiving three new amiibo figures.

Lost Words: Beyond The Page Brings Its Award-Winning Storytelling To Switch Next Month

Modus Games and developer Sketchbook Games have announced that Lost Words: Beyond the Page, a critically-acclaimed narrative adventure, will be launching on Nintendo Switch on 6th April.

Described as "a captivating adventure wrapped in an overarching and undeniably touching narrative," the game was penned by Mirror's Edge and Tomb Raider writer Rhianna Pratchett, also known as the daughter of famed fantasy writer, Sir Terry Pratchett. It's earned a number of awards leading up to this console release, including 'Best Indie Game' at Game Connection Paris and 'Excellence in Narrative' at DevGAMM.

The Pokémon Company has unveiled new social media accounts dedicated to Piplup, one of the starter Pokémon first released in the series' fourth generation of games.

Called 'Project Piplup', the new accounts are a "limited-time" affair which will celebrate the Water-type 'mon going forward. Exact details are yet to be shared, but we imagine it'll be a similar deal to 'Project Eevee', an initiative that spawned a variety of events and merchandise surrounding that particular character.

Germany Is Considering An 18+ Rating On Video Games With Loot Boxes

There's a good chance you've seen the controversies surrounding Loot Boxes. We've discussed them on numerous occasions, and there's been a longstanding debate over whether they're seen as gambling. Shockingly, publishers tend to disagree, but they've come under frequent scrutiny from various governments.

Germany is next in line. Within the Bundestag – German parliament's lower house – they've recently passed a reform to the Youth Protection Act, protecting children from "risks from gambling-like mechanisms". This would apply for loot boxes, and any game including them will need an 18+ age rating.

A-Train: All Aboard! Tourism Is Scheduled To Arrive This Week On Switch

A-Train's got a long history behind it. First released back in 1985, this train simulator series has had quite a reach, going from the Famicom to PlayStation VR. A-Train: All Aboard! Tourism is next on Switch and, previously, it was only confirmed for Japanese release. Until now.

Launching on March 12th, A-Train's also coming to North America and Europe. It's developed by Artdink – best known on Switch for Project TRIANGLE STRATEGY – but unlike previous entries, Nintendo is directly publishing this one.

Nintendo Will Stop Repairing Original 3DS and 3DS XL Consoles Next Month Due To Parts Shortage

Update: Despite giving Japanese consumers until March 31st to send in their broken 3DS consoles, Nintendo has now announced that repairs have been suspended for the following models as the parts required have now been totally exhausted (thanks, Nintendo Wire):

  • Original Nintendo 3DS – Model No. CTR-001 – Serial numbers begin with "CW" or "CB"
  • Original Nintendo 3DS XL – Model No. SPR-001 – Serial numbers begin with "SW" or "SB"
  • New Nintendo 3DS – Model No. KTR-001 – Serial numbers begin with "YW"

GungHo Reveals Its Plans For Ninjala Season 5

Nihon Falcom Is Celebrating Its 40th Anniversary With A Special Broadcast

Take a look back at its early efforts with Ys and The Legend of Heroes.

Not every anniversary is always cause for celebration with companies. Nintendo was noticeably quiet during Legend of Zelda's 35th recently, but Nihon Falcom is doing things differently. A special 40th anniversary broadcast planned at 11am GMT, and will be hosted by President Toshihiro Kondo, looking back at the company's long history in RPGs. And what a history that is.

Nihon Falcom opened its doors on March 9th 1982 and was an early pioneer of RPGs, focusing mainly on Japanese personal computers. Nihon Falcom doesn't usually get the same love that other major publishers do – Square Enix and Atlus are more famous in the west, for example – but throughout its history, it has successfully developed a dedicated cult following.

"Going For Golden Eye" Is Getting A Sequel This Year, And It Will Be Free To Watch

Back in 2018, we had the absolute pleasure of watching an independent UK movie by the name of Going for Golden Eye (yes, the space is deliberate). Pitched as video gaming's version of Spinal Tap, it followed the fortunes of a group of people who were keeping the memory of the N64 title GoldenEye 007 alive, and was jolly good fun.

That movie is now getting a sequel called Bringing Back Golden Eye, and it launches later this year. Jim Miskell returns as producer, but he's handing over the director's duties to Dan Guest for this sequel. Former Rare staffer Grant Kirkhope – who worked on GoldenEye 007 – is supplying the soundtrack.
