Apparently The Fortnite Banana Man Is Important In The Epic V Apple Trial Posted: 10 May 2021 01:00 PM PDT Ally McPeel. You know that moment where Phoenix Wright, apparently an ace attorney, decided to cross-examine a parrot in the first Ace Attorney game? Or the time where he accepted a case that would lead to him defending an orca in court? You know how everyone, from the players to the in-game characters themselves, noted how extremely silly all of that was? Well, the Epic v Apple trial is continuing, with all sorts of ludicrous revelations about the games industry and how lawyers work, and we're starting to think that Phoenix Wright wasn't that weird at all. Soapbox: I Miss My Friends, But I Don't Want To Kill Them Posted: 10 May 2021 12:00 PM PDT Well, maybe a little bit. I highly doubt any of the people reading this have the power to change anything in the games industry, but just in case: my thesis here is that the world is craving online co-op games, and it's crazy that we don't have more of them. Or, at least, more of them that don't involve shooting my friends in the face, or hanging out with strangers. Think about all the success stories of the past year. Among Us: a competitive online co-op game about betrayal, sabotage, and lying to your friends. Valheim: an online multiplayer game about building cool Viking houses with your Viking buddies, and fighting dragons together. Animal Crossing: New Horizons: a game about building extremely cute villages, and inviting friends to hang out in them. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Hitman 3 - Cloud Version Now Includes 60FPS Performance Mode On Switch Posted: 10 May 2021 11:00 AM PDT Smooth stealth. Though the Switch doesn't have the raw power for some multi-platform games, a couple of titles have taken the opportunity to release streaming editions, including Hitman 3 - Cloud Version; it's actually not bad on the system, assuming you have a solid internet connection. Pleasingly the Switch cloud version (along with Stadia) seems to be getting kept up to date, which is to be expected but is nevertheless a relief. Today's big update kicks off Season of Pride, which will be adding a bunch of contracts and content through to 13th June. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Editor On Netflix's Castlevania Discusses The Potential For A Legend Of Zelda Anime Posted: 10 May 2021 10:00 AM PDT "Anyone would chomp at the bit to make a show like this". There have been plenty of rumours and mumblings over the past few years suggesting that The Legend of Zelda might end up getting its very own TV series – remember the live-action Netflix show that was going to be like a friendlier Game of Thrones? – but no such thing has materialised. That live-action project was reportedly canned by Nintendo after it leaked, seemingly putting the gaming giant off the idea of TV adaptations entirely, but things have changed since then. Fast forward to the present day and we know that Mario's getting his own movie in 2022, and Nintendo's opened up about the fact that it's already looking into more animations beyond that; could Zelda finally get the animated treatment fans have been waiting for? Nintendo Reveals The Top 15 Most-Downloaded Switch Games In April 2021 (Europe) Posted: 10 May 2021 09:30 AM PDT The eShop's biggest games. Nintendo has shared an updated list of Europe's most-downloaded Switch eShop games, revealing which titles were the most popular during April 2021. Last month's top game, Monster Hunter Rise, has to settle for second place this time around as Mojang's ever-popular Minecraft grabs number one. Interestingly, New Pokémon Snap has managed to enter the chart in third place despite only being on sale for a single day in April after launching on the 30th. Review: Raiden IV x Mikado Remix - Another Astoundingly Good Shmup For Switch Posted: 10 May 2021 09:00 AM PDT Mix it up. Back in the late eighties when 2D shooting games were a dominant form rather than a somewhat niche genre, a particular kind of shmup became very popular indeed. While the likes of Capcom's 1942 certainly set the groundwork, the success of Toaplan's separate 1987 arcade releases Twin Cobra and Flying Shark made hard-nosed, unembellished military shooting games very popular indeed. In the following two years came the likes of Twin Eagle, Meta Fox, Fighting Hawk, and Toaplan's own Fire Shark and Twin Hawk. Before tucking into the detail, if the title sounds familiar, this is hardly the first time Raiden IV has been released. The 2007 arcade original was quickly followed up by a very respectful Xbox 360 port the following year. Then, in 2014, came Raiden IV Overkill, initially for PS3 and soon thereafter PC, introducing a new scoring model that significantly shifted the flow and feel of Raiden IV – namely the Overkill system. Hotel Transylvania: Scary-Tale Adventures Gets Spooky On Switch This Halloween Posted: 10 May 2021 08:30 AM PDT An all-new 3D platform adventure. Outright Games has announced Hotel Transylvania: Scary-Tale Adventures for Nintendo Switch, launching just in time to tie in with the series' upcoming final film, Hotel Transylvania: Transformania. Port Royale 4 Confirmed To Be Sailing Onto Switch Very Soon Posted: 10 May 2021 07:30 AM PDT With full touchscreen support. The Nintendo Switch, through its solid capabilities and huge popularity, has been able to welcome quite a few new franchises that previously skipped Ninty hardware. Another joining the list is Port Royale 4, though its arrival on the hybrid system has taken longer than originally expected. It released on other platforms last September, but publisher Kalypso Media has confirmed that it'll make its Switch debut on 28th May; it's priced the same as other console versions at $49.99USD, albeit with a 10% pre-order discount. Hardware Review: PowerA Fusion Pro - A Customisable Pro Controller Rival With A Steep Price Posted: 10 May 2021 07:00 AM PDT Swap shop. Despite being available the same day the Nintendo Switch hit store shelves back in 2017, the official Pro Controller remains the interface of choice for the many people who prefer to play docked – and with good reason. It's a comfortable controller with decent battery life and support for a robust range of features – including HD Rumble and NFC, the latter of which allows you to use your amiibo figures in-game. Over the past four years, we've seen many rivals to the Pro Controller appear, and while some of them manage to get a lot of things right (8BitDo's offerings almost always hit the mark), there's usually something missing. PowerA's Fusion Pro comes closer than most, but still doesn't quite provide the full Pro Controller experience – although the unique benefits it does offer might be enough to convince some people to stretch to the $99 asking price. UK Charts: Resident Evil Village Spooks New Pokémon Snap Out Of Top Spot Posted: 10 May 2021 06:30 AM PDT But it's still going strong. UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 8th May, revealing that New Pokémon Snap has been knocked off top spot. The Switch exclusive finds itself in second this time around, as Capcom's new multiplatform release Resident Evil Village gobbles up first place. Despite its weekly sales falling 63% week-on-week (thanks, GamesIndustry.biz), New Pokémon Snap still leads the way for Nintendo as the best-selling Switch game of the week, ahead of games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. OLED Display Firm Mentions 'Switch Pro' During Its Q1 Investors Call Posted: 10 May 2021 06:00 AM PDT A matter of when, not if? While Nintendo continues to focus on the current Switch model and the Switch Lite – both of which are selling better than expected – reports that it's working on a new 'Pro' model refuse to go away. During Universal Display Corp's recent Q1 investors call (thanks, Spawn Wave), reports regarding the new Switch model using an OLED panel were referenced. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Nintendo Acknowledges Blue Switch Lite Colour Argument With Handy Comparison Video Posted: 10 May 2021 05:35 AM PDT "Waluigi vs Nintendo Switch Lite Blue". As it so often does, the internet had a minor meltdown when Nintendo officially unveiled its latest console last month; the new Switch Lite Blue immediately divided fans thanks to its colouring which, in some official promo images, looked slightly more purple than its blue namesake would suggest. Just like the whole blue/gold dress image that did the rounds a few years ago, people couldn't agree on what they were seeing. We've seen folk adamant that it's blue, purple, blurple, and indigo – the term used to describe Nintendo's purplish Game Boy Advance and GameCube consoles. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Monster Hunter Rise Helps Capcom Hit Record Profits Once Again Posted: 10 May 2021 04:30 AM PDT Expects another record Rise next year. Capcom has been on a bit of a roll in recent years. There have been multiple notable releases, but the company's success in making Monster Hunter and Resident Evil current-day must-haves has helped deliver its profits to new heights. Monster Hunter: World was undoubtedly a Western breakthrough for the IP on PS4 / Xbox One and PC, while there've been a glut of quality high-selling Resident Evil releases. The latest financial year results are out and, unsurprising, Monster Hunter Rise features prominently as a major contributor to Capcom's profits. The company states that it's the "fourth consecutive year of record-high profit at all levels in company history", with the Switch-exclusive contributing over four million sales up to 31st March - that total is now beyond six million and it's likely already the company's best-selling single-platform game ever. Other major releases that helped Capcom reach its targets were Resident Evil 3 and ongoing sales of World and its Iceborne expansion. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Random: This Rare Accessory Lets You Play Modern Consoles Through Your Nintendo DS Posted: 10 May 2021 04:00 AM PDT 4K, 120fps output has never looked so good. We've seen some pretty crazy console setups in our time, but we didn't expect to see an Xbox Series X running on a Nintendo DS when we woke up this morning. YouTube channel The Retro Future has shared a new video (above) that showcases Microsoft's latest machine – claimed by the company to be the world's "most powerful console" – hooked up to the tiny, low-resolution screen of an original Nintendo DS. Something tells us that Microsoft would prefer it if you experienced the Series X on a slightly better display, but where's the fun in that? Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Japanese Fans Voted For Their Favourite Animal Crossing Villagers - Do You Agree With The Ranking? Posted: 10 May 2021 03:30 AM PDT Who's your favourite? Animal Crossing: New Horizons has taken Nintendo's laid-back life-sim franchise to incredible new heights, not only smashing sales records but also introducing more players to its welcoming world than ever before. With the game recently celebrating its first anniversary, Japanese publication Famitsu has hosted a survey looking back over New Horizons' first year. The survey asked readers to share when they started playing the game, how long they play for each day and – most importantly – which villager is their favourite. Trials Of Mana 25th Anniversary Concert Virtual Tickets Go On Sale Posted: 10 May 2021 03:00 AM PDT Live Tokyo concert cancelled. Trials of Mana was a notable release on Nintendo Switch last year, serving up an impressive remake of the third game in the series. This year brings the 25th Anniversary of the game's original release in Japan, and Square Enix has provided an update on the planned Tokyo orchestral concert that was planned. Unsurprisingly, the live concert is cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus situation in Japan, but Square Enix has setup a virtual event for those that want to experience the concert and get some goodies in the process. It's a Japanese event, of course, so anyone trying to get in on the action should keep that in mind. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
Zelda-Like Dungeon-Puzzler Elementallis Smashes Kickstarter Goal To Secure Switch Release Posted: 10 May 2021 02:30 AM PDT "Mimicking the style and feel of classic 2D Zeldas". With The Legend of Zelda being the super popular – and super good – series that it is, it's hardly surprising that so many developers aim to create new experiences inspired by or based upon its gameplay. Elementallis is the latest title to do just that, and it's just secured itself a release on Switch. From indie developer Iván Ruiz Lozano, Elementallis is described as "a classic top-down adventure with a modernized retro aesthetic." The game's been generating funds on Kickstarter for around a week now, and with another 24 days still to go, it's already gathered more than double its original €18,000 goal. A Rare SNES SA1 Demo Cartridge Has Been Found And Preserved Posted: 10 May 2021 01:45 AM PDT Power preservation. The Bit Wars were an intriguing time in gaming, particularly in the era of one-upmanship between the Super NES and the SEGA Mega Drive / Genesis. While there could be arguments over sound chips, BLAST processing etc, we also saw special enhancement chips produced that'd go within the game cartridges to improve performance or make certain new techniques possible. Individual games could be standard bearers with these enhancements, something we don't see in the modern era. One example with the SNES was the SA1 chip, which gave boosts in areas like clock speed, faster RAM and more. Perhaps the most famous example of a game using this chip was Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, though the enhancements skipped the PAL territory (Europe / Australia and New Zealand) at the time. Basically, the chip made games run better. Read the full article on nintendolife.com |
