New The Green Knight Trailer Will Drop On Tuesday

Posted: 10 May 2021 10:00 AM PDT

The official Twitter account for The Green Knight, an upcoming medieval fantasy film due out this summer from distributor A24, has announced that the highly anticipated film will finally get its first trailer on Tuesday. Since last year, all fans have had to get a sense of the movie was a short teaser trailer released early February last year.

Before COVID-19 came along, The Green Knight was originally due out last May and was featured prominently in our list of the biggest upcoming movies of 2020. Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a 14th century legend set during the time of King Arthur, in which a Knight of the Round Table enters into a deadly pact with an otherworldly being known as the Green Knight.

The Green Knight is directed by David Lowery, whose previous movies include the 2016 Disney remake of Pete's Dragon and the 2018's crime drama The Old Man & The Gun, which starred Robert Redford in potentially his final performance. The Green Knight also stars Joel Edgerton (Bright), Alicia Vikander (Tomb Raider), and Barry Keoghan (Dunkirk). The film was first announced back in 2018, and is currently due out July 30, 2021 and will reportedly clock in at 125 minutes. The new trailer should be thrilling, as last year's stunning clip showcased how the movie intriguingly blends horror and fantasy.

Filmmaker Claims Capcom Copied His Movie Monster For Resident Evil Village

Posted: 10 May 2021 09:47 AM PDT

A Dutch filmmaker has accused Capcom of "stealing" a monster design from one of his films in Resident Evil Village. Richard Raaphorst, who directed the 2013 horror film Frankenstein's Army, claimed in a recent LinkedIn post (thanks, VGC) that Capcom copied a distinctive monster from that film for a boss fight.

Minor spoilers for Resident Evil Village ahead. You have been warned.

In Frankenstein's Army, a massive monstrosity with a propeller for a head attacks a group of soldiers, who eventually defeat the monster by blowing it up. You can see a part of that scene in the YouTube trailer below. Village has a boss fight with the monster "Sturm," who is also a massive monstrosity with a propeller for a head who eventually explodes. Eurogamer has a clip of the full boss fight, if you're so inclined.

WoW Classic Players Aren't Pleased With Blizzard's Burning Crusade Announcements

Posted: 10 May 2021 09:41 AM PDT

Blizzard recently announced the news that World of Warcraft: Classic players have been waiting for: The game's next "classic" expansion, The Burning Crusade, will arrive on June 1. But many in the game's community have been less than thrilled with two announcements that coincided with the news about the game's launch date, namely the short length of the Burning Crusade's pre-patch as well as the inclusion of additional services and cosmetics Blizzard is now offering for real money in WoW Classic for the first time.

Pre-patches for WoW expansions typically last about four weeks and lay the groundwork for the upcoming expansion. The patches include class balance and talent changes, new items, and typically some kind of activity or questline that leads into the game's next chapter. For Burning Crusade Classic, the pre-patch is of even greater importance than normal, as it not only brings about class changes and item rebalancing, but also two new races in the form of the Horde's Blood Elves and the Alliance's Draenei. Blood Elves are the only Horde race in the Burning Crusade that can be the previously Alliance-exclusive paladin class, while Draenei is the only Alliance race which can be the previously Horde-exclusive shaman class. That means more than a few players will be rerolling to play these new classes.

Blizzard said during the initial announcement of Burning Crusade Classic that the game's pre-patch would allow players an opportunity to level new Blood Elf and Draenei characters ahead of the expansion's launch. Given Blizzard's pre-patch history, most players assumed this would mean a pre-patch lasting about four weeks.

Posted: 10 May 2021 09:26 AM PDT

Far too often monitors feature the same technology of traditional TVs but lack many of their most utilized features. That's especially true if you've grown accustomed to having all of your displays be smart ones, with apps for streaming, web browsing, and more. The Samsung AM500 27-inch monitor is one of the company's attempts to bridge that gap, offering a traditional 1080p monitor with the smart functionality of its TV line. It's on sale today only, too, with Best Buy offering the monitor at a discounted price of $190.

The monitor also features support for Samsung Dex, which lets you turn your Samsung smartphone into a portable computer by hooking up with the much larger display. In terms of I/O you'll get two HDMI ports (one of which features ARC support, if you want to route audio) and two USB ports for charging devices. The monitor lacks any height adjustment support but does feature significant tilt range that will let you get the angle just right.

Netflix's Jupiter's League Gets New Action-Packed Behind-The-Scenes Video

Posted: 10 May 2021 08:36 AM PDT

Netflix has released a thrilling behind-the-scenes video offering Jupiter's Legacy fans insights into how the first episode's climactic hilltop battle scene featuring the supervillain Blackstar was actually filmed. In a little over three minutes, the actors and crew break down how they filled three months with planning for this scene alone.

"The challenge of this sequence is we have a massive, tone-setting action piece with about nine different characters," says Philip J. Silvera, the production's stunt coordinator. "And there's a lot of story to tell, and a lot of action to show in a very short amount of time."

As actor Josh Duhamel, who plays The Utopian, says, this short video is a great reminder of how "tedious" huge setpieces can be to produce, but with careful attention to detail, "the cumulative effect of it all [will make it] really intense."

Notorious Horror Movie Faces Of Death To be Remade By Cam Filmmakers

Posted: 10 May 2021 08:35 AM PDT

Controversial horror movie Faces of Death is getting a remake. The new version of the 1978 film will be written by Isa Mazzei and directed by Daniel Goldhaber. The pair previously made the acclaimed 2018 psychological horror Cam.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the rights to Faces of Death have been picked up by Godzilla vs. Kong producers Legendary Entertainment. The site states that the company hopes to kickstart a new franchise.

The original Faces of Death is part of so-called mondo subgenre, and consisted of gruesome footage of supposedly real-life deaths, presented by pathologist Francis B. Gröss (in fact actor Michael Carr). The footage is a mix of real and fake, from real-life car accidents to staged executions and cannibalism. The original film was a big hit on VHS in the US, and was followed by three sequels. In the UK, the movie was banned as part of the "video nasty" scare of the early '80s, and footage of real-life animal violence remains cut from the film to this day.

Gears Studio The Coalition Confirms Two Projects In Development, Will Use Unreal Engine 5

Gears developer The Coalition is now making games using the Unreal Engine 5, which is the latest edition of Epic's game development tools that promise better graphics. The studio also confirmed it has multiple new projects in the works.

In a blog post, The Coalition said, "We're excited to start shifting our resources to next-gen development using Unreal Engine 5."

The Gears series has a close connection to that engine, of course, as the franchise was originally developed by Epic Games itself before Microsoft acquired it. The original Gears of War was one of the first games to run at 720p on Xbox 360, while Gears 5 was updated on Xbox Series X|S to support 120fps on console in 2020.

Gal Gadot Confirms Joss Whedon Threatened Her Career During Justice League Reshoots

Posted: 10 May 2021 07:40 AM PDT

Gal Gadot has commented on reports that director Joss Whedon threatened her career during Justice League reshoots in 2017. The Wonder Woman star confirmed the story on the Israel TV show N12 News.

During the interview, N12 News reporter Yuna Leibzon asked Gadot about reports that her attempts to change the way Wonder Woman was portrayed in the film were blocked by Whedon. "He even said you should just be pretty and say your lines. You weren't going to let him get away with it," Leibzon said.

Gadot then confirmed that this had happened, and that she dealt with it right away. "What I had with Joss basically is that he kind of threatened my career and said if I did something he would make my career miserable," she said. "I handled it on the spot." Check the interview footage below:

PS5 And PS4's Most-Downloaded Games Of April 2021 Include MLB The Show 21, Returnal, And Outriders

Posted: 10 May 2021 07:39 AM PDT

It's time, once again, to look at which games cracked the top 20 list of most-downloaded titles on PlayStation Network across PS4 and PS5--and for April 2021, an older game does not hold the top spot on either list. The US and Canada PS4 and PS5 charts are both topped by new releases, with MLB The Show 21 grabbing the number one spot.

For the last few months, both PS5 and PS4 charts in the US and Canada have been dominated by GTA V or Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but that's changed in April 2021. On the PS5 list, MLB The Show 21 takes the top spot despite it being free with Game Pass on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S; Outriders and the PS5-exclusive Returnal come in at 2 and 3. In Europe, FIFA 21 continues to reign, with Outriders at second and It Takes Two at third.

On PS4, MLB The Show also dethroned GTA V and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, although those two titles still achieved second and third place, respectively. Nier Replicant snuck in at 15, making it the only other April release to crack the top 20. Other notable titles include Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker at ninth place, PGA Tour 2K21 at 12th place, and Gang Beasts at 20th place.
