Nvidia Broadcast App Version 1.2 Launches Today And Improves Echo And Video Noise Reduction

Posted: 11 May 2021 09:27 AM PDT

Nvidia's Broadcast app, which gives users tools for setting up livestreams from their PCs, is getting a big update today that improves its echo and video noise reduction tech. In Version 1.2, Nvidia has added several new features that help you get rid of unwanted environmental audio and video static.

The most significant new feature is called Room Echo Removal, which helps even out your voice if you're streaming from a room with poor acoustics. This feature uses Nvidia's tech to reduce the amount of echo in your audio. The Video Noise Removal feature, meanwhile, will work to reduce noise in your video feed, which is especially prevalent when using low-quality cameras like webcams in low-light spaces.

Nvidia is also overhauling some of the app's existing audio and video features. Version 1.2 improves the capabilities of the audio noise removal tool, including additions that help separate out and silence noise from animals and insects. Auto Frame, which dynamically crops the video feed to focus on the person in the shot, has been updated with a buffer zone so that it doesn't constantly move. Now, the camera will only update the crop if the person in the shot moves outside of the middle third of the screen. Finally, the update now lets you use multiple AI-driven effects at once, so you can, for instance, run Auto Frame and Background Blur at the same time.

EA Play Scheduled For July 22 As An All-Virtual Show

Posted: 11 May 2021 09:23 AM PDT

EA's annual gaming show EA Play Live is coming back in 2021, but it won't be connected to E3. The publisher said on Tuesday that EA Play Live will be held virtually on July 22.

EA made the announcement on social media with a video, but it doesn't appear to contain any teases for what to expect from the showcase. That being said, we have a few guesses. EA is releasing a big new Battlefield game this holiday, while the BioWare team has Dragon Age 4 in the works. These titles, in addition to updates for Apex Legends, are likely to be discussed or shown off during the show, in addition to surprises.

EA Play Live 2020 was held in June amid a very busy schedule for other announcements and reveals from other companies, so it seems EA is looking to give its own show more breathing room this year. Last year's event brought big news, including the announcement of Skate 4.

Review Roundup For Army Of The Dead

Posted: 11 May 2021 09:16 AM PDT

Zack Snyder's Justice League might have only hit streaming in March, but the director's next film is about to arrive. Army of the Dead is Snyder's long-in-development zombie heist movie, and it hits theaters in the US on Friday, May 14, with a Netflix release following on May 21.

The movie focuses on a team of tough mercenaries who are hired to steal millions of dollars from a vault below a Las Vegas casino. The main problem is that Vegas has been infested with zombies, with thousands of hungry undead swarming the streets of the city. The movies has an ensemble cast led by Dave Bautista, and the runnig time clocks in at a hefty 148 minutes.

Reviews of Army of the Dead are now online. So far the response has largely been positive, with critics praising the action, humor, and diversity of the cast, but others more critical of the length and attempts at more emotional content. It currently holds 75% on Rotten Tomatoes--so here's what the critics have said about Snyder's zombie action epic.

Ubisoft's Skull & Bones Pirate Game Has Been Delayed Yet Again

Posted: 11 May 2021 09:10 AM PDT

Ubisoft's long-awaited pirate game Skull & Bones has been delayed once again. The publisher said in its latest earnings report that the game is now slated to launch during the fiscal year 2022-2023, which runs April 1, 2022-March 31, 2023.

This is just the latest delay for Skull & Bones, but it's not much of a surprise. In September 2020, Ubisoft confirmed its developers were working on a "new vision" for the game, following a report that said the title was getting rebooted.

Skull & Bones is progressing well, Ubisoft management said in a news briefing, adding that it has faith in the creative direction of the title. The additional development time will allow the studio the time it needs to realize its vision, management said.

Xbox Series X|S May Update Rolls Out Today, Fixes Quick Resume Complaints

Posted: 11 May 2021 09:03 AM PDT

The May 2021 update for Xbox Series X|S is rolling out today, and it brings with it some much-requested fixes to the Quick Resume feature. This update improves stability and performance for Quick Resume, meaning your experience with it should be both more reliable and quicker.

The main fixes are improved reliability and loading times when switching between games, which will help smooth out some of the complaints from players. In addition, the update also helps make it easier to tell whether or not a game supports Quick Resume (since some titles only work with a traditional boot sequence). The game you're currently playing will have a tag that lists if it supports the feature, and your game library will now have a Group that lists all the titles currently saved in Quick Resume.

Quick Resume is one of the main features differentiating Xbox Series X|S from the PS5. With it, you can keep up to six games suspended in the background, letting you switch between them on the fly without rebooting any of them. While it's a great feature in theory, players have occasionally hit reliability issues when using it, so this update is a welcome fix to help bolster a big part of the Xbox Series X|S experience.

Devolver Announces E3 2021 Showcase Date, June 12

Posted: 11 May 2021 08:10 AM PDT

Devolver Digital, the boutique games publisher behind Genital Jousting and Hotline Miami, will have a presence during the week of E3 2021, and now the company has revealed when its showcase may be. The publisher said on Twitter that it's "probably" scheduled for June 12. The "probably" is likely in keeping with Devolver's trademark humor and tone, as opposed to any real uncertainty over when the show takes place (we think).

June 12 is the first day of E3 2021's digital show. Devolver is not involved with E3 2021 in an official capacity, but the company is seemingly kicking off its own show to make the most of the elevated interest in games that week as the company was known to do in pre-pandemic years.

Devolver and E3's organizer, the ESA, have clashed before. Devolver was known to host its own event across the street from the Los Angeles Convention Center where it would promote its games and work with journalists and influencers who attended E3 proper. Devolver said in 2017 that it lost $100,000 due to its spat with the ESA.

Amazon's New World MMO Showcases New Dungeon Gameplay Ahead Of Launch

Posted: 11 May 2021 08:07 AM PDT

New World is the largest game set to be released from Amazon Games. In the same vein of World of Warcraft and Final Fantasy XIV, New World is an online RPG where players can take on quests, take in lore, and collect loot in the world of Aeternum--essentially a high-fantasy setting that takes inspiration from the Americas during the Age of Exploration. With its August 31 launch approaching, the developers of the large-scale open-world MMO opened up New World to a final preview ahead of its release later this summer. One of the many constants in an MMO is the focus on dungeon-crawling, and we had the chance to dive into New World's take on group quests, called Excavations.

New World puts more of a focus on exploring a large-open world at your own pace, letting you take on trades, engage in PvP and PvE content, and build out your character how you see fit. This aspect of the game comes through in a big way during the Excavation missions. Similar to other online RPGs, you and a squad of other adventurers team up to engage in story-driven, standalone adventures located in instanced locales. In our recent hands-on, we got to explore one of the high-level Excavations set in the Armine ruins, which you can check out below in our new gameplay video.

As the name suggests, Excavations are about uncovering and exploring the lost ruins of Aeternum, which houses ancient treasures and hidden threats that have gone undisturbed before your arrival. This particular Excavation starts out in a network of mines before descending further into the ruins of a lost civilization. Tying back into the themes of New World, the MMO is about exploring an unfamiliar land and uncovering its lost history.

The actual gameplay loop of the Excavation follows the same tried and true formula of MMO dungeon-crawling missions. New World's action-focused combat, which has players manage stamina as they dodge attacks, parry strikes, and aim their ranged attacks in real-time, makes each fight feel like an active and thrilling engagement. With each player taking on a needed role, and with coordination being a must, these high-level, group-focused missions present a solid amount of fun and excitement--if a bit familiar compared to other MMOs. However, what really sets New World apart is the freeform and classless character system.

PUBG Mobile Goes Full Kaiju With New Godzilla Vs Kong Content

Posted: 11 May 2021 07:38 AM PDT

PUBG Mobile has unleashed a clash of the titans on its player base, partnering with Godzilla vs Kong for a kaiju-sized Version 1.4 update to the battle royale.

Godzilla, Kong, and Mechagodzilla will now appear on the Erangel, Sanhok, and Livk maps in the brand new Titan Strikes mode. They will not attack players--unless too many gather around the massive beasts--instead trying to destroy new Apex Cybernetics buildings and Monster Settlements. The new structures can be looted once destroyed, though the Monster Settlements will contain hostile monsters that will need to be defeated first.

The update also comes with a pair of additions timed for early June. The first is brand new Arena map called Hangar coming June 1--which supports which supports the Arena Training, Team Deathmatch, and Team Gun Game modes--while June 9 adds new Lab structures to the Erangel map. These Labs contain "Quantum Transformation Devices" which turns you into a "minature insect player" for a completely new game mode.
