Xbox Series X Expansion Drive Gets Discount On Newegg Posted: 08 May 2021 08:12 AM PDT The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S both support expanded storage for playing next-gen games, but doing so requires a proprietary storage card. Right now, that Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S is on sale at Newegg, giving you more than $20 off its regular price so you can install even more games.
To take advantage of the 10% discount, all you have to do is enter the promo code 93XQY65 in the code field during checkout. This will give you the discount, which drops the price down to $198. Though that is still nothing to sneeze at, the card is the only one that supports direct play of Xbox Series X|S games other than the consoles' own internal storage. Currently, other external drives, including other SSDs, only support storing these games, and they must be transferred to the internal drive to play. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
How NEO: The World Ends With You Is Designed For A New Era Posted: 08 May 2021 08:00 AM PDT The World Ends With You (TWEWY) was a lot of things--an innovative RPG that put the Nintendo DS's touch screen to good use, a stylish experience that demonstrated youthful expression through fashion and music, and one of the most experimental games in Square Enix's history. But despite the game's cult status, TWEWY has not had an official follow up in the 14 years since its release. Until now, that is, with the upcoming NEO: The World Ends With You. The original TWEWY came back around with the Switch remaster in 2018, dubbed Final Remix, albeit with mixed results from the retooled controls to accommodate the platform change. However, this upcoming sequel, NEO: The World Ends With You, is a sort of rebuild of what made the original special. I recently had a brief interview with its key developers, which included Tetsuya Nomura (creative producer and character art designer), Tatsuya Kondo (series director), Hiroyuki Ito (director), and Tomohiko Hirano (producer). And from talking with them, I have a clearer picture of how TWEWY is being modernized not just in a gameplay sense but also in its attitude. We covered NEO TWEWY's character designs and their conception, storytelling and ties to the original game, and how the combat has shifted from touch controls to a fast-paced action-RPG with a dynamic party system. We have a better understanding of what we can expect from this anticipated follow-up, and it seems that bringing the series into a modern era isn't going to take away from what made TWEWY unique, either. My only regret is not leaving enough time to talk about the soundtrack and eccentric jams that have made the series resonate with so many of us. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Nintendo, Please Keep The Weird, Unexpected Releases Like Famicom Detective Club Coming Posted: 08 May 2021 08:00 AM PDT While they may not be blockbuster-level releases, Nintendo's obscure Famicom Detective Club games arrive on Switch next week, making this a notable moment for the system. As Nintendo itself has called them, these two games are "deep cuts" from the company's early years, a pair of previously unlocalized visual novels that originally launched for the Famicom Disk System (hence their namesake) back in the late '80s. This marks the first time either title is ever being released outside of Japan, and I hope Nintendo continues to bring more of these kinds of curiosities to the West. If nothing else, the Famicom Detective Club remakes are noteworthy for their historical value. As with Fire Emblem, my own introduction to the series came through Super Smash Bros. Melee. The fighting game featured a number of trophies calling back to Japan-only titles, including one of Famicom Detective Club's heroine, Ayumi Tachibana. That small Easter egg was a fascinating glimpse at a lesser-known piece of Nintendo's oeuvre, but I had long assumed the series would remain just that--a footnote in the company's history. Their release on Switch, however, finally gives players outside of Japan their first official chance to experience the titles, and introduces the forgotten series to a modern audience. What also makes Famicom Detective Club interesting is the team behind it. The games were originally developed by Nintendo R&D1, the division that produced Kid Icarus and Metroid (among other titles). Many of the developers who worked on those classics had a hand in Famicom Detective Club, including Yoshio Sakamoto. While he is perhaps best known for his work on the Metroid series, Sakamoto was responsible for penning the script for both Famicom Detective Club titles--some of his earliest writing credits on a video game. Take-Two Nintendo Switch Sale Has Deals On Borderlands, BioShock, And XCOM Posted: 08 May 2021 06:42 AM PDT Take-Two has been a fairly big supporter of the Nintendo Switch, bringing some of its biggest games to the little system that could. Several of those games are currently on sale via the Nintendo eShop, offering enormous discounts, and many of the titles are actually bundles containing a few games. BioShock, Borderlands, and XCOM are among the games with their prices slashed, so don't delay if you want them. BioShock: The Collection is one of the biggest deals during this sale, with its price dropping from $50 down to $20. The bundle includes all three BioShock games, with the first two being remastered versions, and it also has all single-player DLC--the multiplayer from BioShock 2 was omitted from the collection. If you prefer to get BioShock, BioShock 2, or BioShock Infinite on their own, you can do that, too. They are $8 each, down from $20. A similar deal is available for the Borderlands games. Borderlands Legendary Collection is $20, down from $50, and packs in the original Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel with their DLC included. The only exception is Borderlands 2's Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary pack. You can also get Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which doesn't include the first game but is $16, or Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition for $12. The Telltale game Tales from the Borderlands has a slight discount, too, dropping from $25 to $20. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Halo: MCC Dev Update Details Various Changes Ahead Of Season 7 Posted: 08 May 2021 06:17 AM PDT Halo: The Master Chief Collection is changing in some big ways very soon. A development update for the game posted by 343 Industries community support and engagement coordinator Tyler Davis has revealed some of the changes players can expect as the game gears up for its seventh season. Today's post goes over planned updates to features across The Master Chief Collection, from multiplayer to flight plans for the next season. It even touches on the upcoming custom games browser for the game, which was recently added to the game for a stress test. Quit BansAnyone who has played a game of Halo multiplayer knows that quitting players are a nuisance. Changes are coming to the system meant to deter players from leaving a game before it ends, though. According to the development update, quit bans are going to be reserved for anyone that ruins the fun of a game. Specifically, that means the first half of a team that leaves. Anyone else that quits out of a game after half their team has left won't be punished. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Roku And Google Argue Over YouTube TV App Posted: 07 May 2021 03:47 PM PDT If you're one of the millions of users who access their streaming services through a Roku-branded television or streaming box, you may have noticed just how long it took HBO Max and Peacock to arrive on the service. Now, Google and Roku are at odds over the YouTube app following Roku's removal of the separate YouTube TV app. Google added fuel to the fire today by adding YouTube TV to the existing YouTube App. The fun kicked off last week when Roku removed the YouTube TV app from the Roku store. The distribution deal between the two companies expired on April 30, and Roku says Google is asking for unfair terms meant to not just benefit YouTube, but also to negatively affect Roku and Roku users. The terms include things like providing Google with special access to consumer data, Roku to build a special YouTube search function into the Roku interface, and even for Roku to meet certain hardware specs. In short, it sounds like Google is asking Roku to be another branch of its existing Chromecast product line at additional cost to Roku itself. When negotiations stalled out and the distribution agreement expired, Roku removed the YouTube TV app. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Get A First Look At Supergirl's New Guardian In Costume Posted: 07 May 2021 03:35 PM PDT
Kelly Olsen (Azie Tesfai) will be picking up the mantle of Guardian in the twelfth episode of Supergirl's sixth and final season, titled "Blind Spots." She is taking over the role from James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks), who left the series back in Season 5. Take a look at Kelly in full Guardian costume in Tesfai's celebratory tweet below.
Making the moment even more special is the fact that Tesfai co-wrote the episode alongside co-producer J. Holtham. It will also be directed by an Arrow-verse regular, David Ramsey, who is slated to appear in it as his fan favorite character, John Diggle. A full description of the episode is not yet available, but it will deal with and address racial inequality. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

The FTC Is Not Happy With Manufacturers That Don't Let You Repair Their Products Posted: 07 May 2021 03:08 PM PDT This week, the United States government signaled its intent to take the side of consumers in the fight over the "right to repair," or the ability for consumers to readily and easily repair their own devices. In a new report, the Federal Trade Commission attacks manufacturers, listing an array of anti-competitive and restrictive action taken to prevent owners from fixing their products. The report, titled Nixing the Fix, has been eagerly anticipated by both manufacturers and consumer rights advocates, as it is one of the biggest signs in recent years of how the U.S. government is approaching the right to repair. In the report, the FTC outlines the policies instituted by manufacturers of devices from mobile phones to cars, such as purposefully limiting the availability of spare parts and instituting product designs that make repairs unnecessarily complex. ![]() The FTC focuses on the impact to the users from these restrictive measures taken by manufacturers. It specifically calls out the disproportionate financial impact that onerous anti-repair designs and policies have on low-income communities and people of color. The FTC states that small repair shop businesses are also unfairly harmed. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Call Of Duty: Warzone Double XP Now Live Posted: 07 May 2021 03:06 PM PDT Double XP in Call of Duty: Warzone is live now, but it only lasts until tomorrow. Activision announced that, in response to 1 million players completing Call of Duty's challenge for supporting veterans, it would grant extra experience points for all players for 24 hours. Last week, Activision kicked off an in-game challenge to raise awareness for action to support veteran medics and hospital corpsmen and women. The challenge tasks people to revive five downed players in Call of Duty: Warzone; competing it by May 9 grants a unique Call of Duty Endowment calling card. In addition, Activision donates $1 to the Call of Duty Endowment charity for each person who successfully finishes the challenge. The total number of players has just crossed 1 million, and as promised, Activision enabled Double XP for all Warzone players. But it won't last long: the promotion will only be live until tomorrow. An exact time wasn't specified, but Activision's announcement came at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET / 6 PM BST so the Double XP is likely to expire at that same time tomorrow. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
Skullgirls 2nd Encore Is Getting A New DLC Character Posted: 07 May 2021 02:47 PM PDT Skullgirls 2nd Encore is getting a new DLC character, developer Hidden Variable and publisher Autumn Games announced. Her name is Umbrella and she is part of the game's Season 1 Pass DLC. She is planned to be released sometime in 2021 and will also be available in the Mobile version. Hidden Variable says that Umbrella is still in early development, but the developer wanted to share some details about her playstyle. Umbrella has a living weapon named Hungern that she utilizes with most of her attacks. Hungern has an interesting mechanic where he gets hungrier and hungrier as the match progresses or after performing certain actions. His hunger level fluctuates and will affect his attacks. Hungern has three states: Starving, Overstuffed, and Ravenous. When he is Starving, Umbrella's normal attacks are slower, but attacks that devour opponents become stronger. The Overstuffed state provides bonus effects to attacks that have him spitting up something from his stomach. Being balanced between those two makes Hungern enter the Ravenous state. This means that he is hungry and powerful, but isn't Starving just yet. Players that can maintain this state will be rewarded. It looks like Umbrella's gameplay direction requires some micro-management. Continue Reading at GameSpot |

Opinion: In Letting Go Of Sons Of Anarchy, Mayans MC Has Finally Surpassed It Posted: 07 May 2021 02:29 PM PDT When Mayans MC first debuted on FX in 2018, the possibility of revisiting the world of Sons of Anarchy was exciting, especially through the eyes of a new group of bikers. Still, the original series left some massive shoes to fill when it went off the air in 2014. While the show's quality may have fallen off in its final couple of seasons, Sons of Anarchy was a groundbreaking series for FX that told a compelling story and featured a group of characters you were dying to root for. How could a sequel series with an all-new cast stack up? Yet here we are, nearing the end of Mayans MC's third and best season. Not only has it measured up to the original series, but it's also toppled it. It took some work to get there, though. After all, while all three seasons of Mayans MC are worthwhile, it's not until the current run of episodes that the show did the smartest thing it could: It buried the past and moved forward. Co-created by Elgin James and Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter, the first two seasons of Mayans MC introduced a very relevant story. Unlike Sons of Anarchy's predominantly white motorcycle gang in a small Northern California town, Mayans is made up of a primarily Latinx cast of actors in a tale set on the border between the United States and Mexico. It couldn't be a more timely narrative. Continue Reading at GameSpot |
