Resident Evil Village Beginner's Tips And Tricks | Guide

Posted: 07 May 2021 03:29 PM PDT

Resident Evil Village is available now and many are preparing to start their journey as Ethan Winters. For those getting ready to take on the latest Capcom horror adventure, there are a few things you need to know before diving in. Luckily, we're here to help. Here are our Resident Evil Village tips and tricks!

What you need to know before playing Resident Evil Village

If you're familiar with Resident Evil, then you already know there will be puzzles to solve and enemies to slay. We've got a few helpful puzzle guides here and here, but what about more generalized tips? The good news is that there really is no "wrong" way to play, but there are a few pointers on how to make your time in this creepy journey a little more efficient and fully optimized.

Pay attention to your map

Whether you're in the village, in the castle, or in the later parts of the story, you'll see certain areas on your map that are either blue or red. Red means there are parts of a certain area that you haven't explored completely. This is great to pay attention to, because some of the items found can be a little hidden. You might need to crouch down to find it, or break glass to get to it, but the goal should be to turn all of the red areas blue. Once blue, you'll know you've cleared it and you're good to move on.

Make nice with Duke

Duke is a helpful lad, much like the Merchant in Resident Evil 4. He's also much more talkative and gives you critical information about important story quests to find Rose and uncover the mystery behind why Mia was killed. Duke will pop up everywhere, including places you would swear up and down that he couldn't fit. Talk to him every time. You can buy from him, sell to him, and this is where you will also level your weapons and increase your inventory space. He is also going to point you in the direction you need to go once you've cleared Castle Dimitrescu. Very helpful dude, show him some love.

Increase your inventory

The first chance you get, increase your inventory with Duke. Trust me, if you don't? You're going to miss out on some seriously powerful weapons later on in the game, as well as important story items.

Level, level, level

Don't just stick with vanilla weapons, upgrade them! Through Duke, you can upgrade aspects of your weaponry such as power and ammo. Do this to your unique play style and you're going to make your arsenal something Lady D and co. wish they never messed with. If you don't, you're going to find your damage against foes significantly lacking.

Craft, craft, craft

While you can absolutely buy ammo from Duke, why waste the money? All around you in this world are materials that can be used to craft ammo and craft ways to heal. This will help you when you're in between visits with Duke and will ensure that you're never in a tight spot where you end up bringing a knife to a gun fight. The crafting in Village is incredibly easy to use, so use it! It'll tell you how much material you have and what you still need, and then poof! More goods. Just, uh, you can't craft your wife suddenly into existence. Sorry, pal.

Tailor your tools

You can slot your weapons in whatever slot you want for your gear wheel. Do that. Playing on PS5, I always had my shotgun in my top slot for my D-pad because that was my go-to. Slot your melee and your firepower accordingly. Know where you've placed them too, that way you can be more strategic with your combat: shotgun, pistol, knife – DEAD. You're welcome.

Block for your life

You can parry attacks by kicking a foe back. This will also help you with reloading your weapon when you're in a tight spot. If you're trying to be conservative with your ammo, or need an additional second to switch weapons, kick 'em back and make them pay.

Sometimes, you do want to bring a knife to a gun fight

If you can, save your ammo. Knives are pretty powerful, so use them. Between that and blocking, it's easy to be more strategic with how you take to combating the various enemies you'll face when looking for Rose.

Don't be afraid to be a chicken

Sometimes the best offense is a defense. And by that, I mean don't be afraid to be a weenie. Since you can't save outside of typewriters, you want to be careful that you're not putting yourself in unnecessary danger. If you start to feel the tides of battle turn out of your favor, there's no shame in turning tail and running for your life. Even if it means just temporarily escaping to regroup.

Enjoy the story

If you find yourself bogged down by trying to find anything and everything, just enjoy the story. A lot of the side quests (the few that there are) and little tokens can be found simply by playing through the campaign. But pay attention. There are a lot of clues in the dialogue, especially from Duke. If you're feeling a little lost, just go to the next part of the story.

And that's it! Those are our Resident Evil Village tips and tricks! To see how our own Ben Reeves felt about this time fighting the ooglie booglies of Village, you can read his full review right here. Happy hunting!

The Top 10 PlayStation 5 Games

Posted: 07 May 2021 03:26 PM PDT

"What games should I get for my PlayStation 5?" This is the question we've been asked the most since Sony's new generation of gaming arrived last November. People want to see what games are the best showpieces of PlayStation 5's power, and also which ones take their beloved medium to new heights. Although the PlayStation 5 is still in its infancy, it has already amassed a nice library of games, including a few titles that you can't play anywhere else.

The Game Informer staff has selected 10 games that we consider to be the PlayStation 5's absolute best. Over time, this article will be updated with the latest releases that we think crack the top 10.

Please note that while the list below contains 10 entries, we aren't ranking them. If a game has made it this far (and managed to stay here), it's a must-play, period. As such, we'll be listing entries in reverse chronological order. Also, with future updates, you'll find a rundown of previous entries at the bottom of the list. While those titles have gotten bumped over time, they are still all great games in their own right and worth exploring if you're already caught up on the latest hits.

Here are Game Informer's picks for the top 10 games on PlayStation 5:

Resident Evil Village

Release: May 7, 2021

The Resident Evil series has struggled with balancing horror and action in the past, but Village hits the sweet spot, offering a series of tense atmospheric frights punctuated by sweat-inducing firefights. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard protagonist Ethan Winters returns for another round with everything that goes bump in the night. However, this time Ethan is on a mission to save his daughter from gangs of werewolves and vampires who have set up shop in a medieval castle and its surrounding village. Capcom's first-person combat has been refined so the combat feels better than ever, and a whole host of ghastly monsters stalk Ethan from the shadows, so whether you're in or out of combat Village generates a powerful sense of tension. Sure, these puzzles could use a little polish, but Resident Evil's boss battles have never been better.

Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Release: March 2, 2021

The Yakuza games of old followed the exploits of Kazuma Kiryu and delivered combat through real-time brawling. Like a Dragon upends that formula with turn-based combat seen through the eyes of series newcomer Ichiban Kasuga. This dramatic shift doesn't steal away any of Yakuza's charm or fun. Like a Dragon is another excellent addition to this long-running series, serving as a refreshing turn-based role-playing take that will hopefully lead to years and years of new adventures seen through the eyes of Ichiban.

Assassin's Creed: Valhalla

Release: November 12, 2020

The Assassin's Creed games are massive in size and scope, delivering exhilarating combat, sprawling exploration, and quests galore. Valhalla is the first entry in the series that truly balances all of these aspects, giving them equal time in the spotlight and not leaning too much on one. With the Viking theme leading the charge, Ubisoft once again brings players into a setting that feels new and is rich in discovery. Like Odyssey before it, Valhalla is another excellent evolution of the beloved Assassin's Creed formula. It never wavers from engaging in big and meaningful ways. The Assassin's Creed series just keeps getting better.

Astro's Playroom

Release: November 12, 2020

A free pack-in with every PlayStation 5 system, Astro's Playroom delivers a delightful platforming experience that demonstrates why the DualSense controller is so special. The adaptive triggers tighten when jumps are charged, and distinct rumble effects shake the controller in dynamic ways that line up perfectly with the action on-screen. Each world that Astro explores is themed after a different PlayStation 5 component (such as the GPU forest), and over 25 years of PlayStation history is on display in the characters, secrets, and imagery that players unearth. Astro's Playroom is the first game every PlayStation 5 owner should play, as it immediately shows you why this high-end console is a game changer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War/Warzone

Release: November 12, 2020

Call of Duty has long been one of the biggest series to date with almost every release topping the sales charts each year. In 2020, the series grew even bigger with two releases: Warzone, the new standalone battle royale experience, and the next entry of Black Ops called Cold War. Both of these Call of Duty experiences are phenomenal on PlayStation 5, delivering different haptic feedback for most of the firearms, gorgeous visuals, and a ridiculous amount of content in all of their avenues of play. The way the two games build off of each other for seasons also gives plenty of reason to play both.

Demon's Souls

Release: November 12, 2020

The wait for From Software's Elden Ring was made a little less painful thanks to the excellent Demon's Souls remake. Returning to the roots of this series and seeing it come to life in such beautiful (and disturbing) ways was one of the highlights of PlayStation 5's launch. The small changes that developer Bluepoint Games made help give this classic a modern touch, and helps it stand tall against the other great Souls games. If you already played this game to death on PS3, the new Fractured Mode changes up the dance just enough to make it feel new again.

Destiny 2: Beyond Light

Release: November 12, 2020

When Destiny is firing on all cylinders, it roars with excitement. While Beyond Light's launch last November didn't hit all of the gameplay and narrative notes players wanted, Bungie has since course-corrected and has updated the game in meaningful ways. Season Of The Chosen shakes up the foundation nicely, offering rewarding progression and a story that delivers interesting twists and turns. Destiny 2 has proven to be one of the strongest ongoing games out there, and it's even better on PlayStation 5.

Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales

Release: November 12, 2020

Insomniac Games' Spider-Man universe is starting to look a little like Marvel's Cinematic Universe with a story continuing through the eyes of different characters. Miles Morales' debut game is shorter than the original game, but is every bit as enthralling. Miles' coming-of-age story is excellently spun, and while he shares the same Spider-Man name as Peter, he emerges as a different type of hero, using invisibility and electricity to clean up the evildoers who are threatening New York City. Here's hoping the next game puts both Peter and Miles in the spotlight equally. We can't wait to see where this Spidey story goes next.

How To Solve Resident Evil Village Abandoned Stone Statue Puzzle | Guide

Posted: 07 May 2021 03:04 PM PDT

Resident Evil Village has a few puzzles that players will encounter, including one that involves stone statues. This one is tricky at first, but it's definitely one of those that once it clicks? It clicks. Without further ado, here is what you need to know in order to solve the Resident Evil Village abandoned stone statue puzzle.

How to solve Resident Evil Village abandoned stone statue puzzle

Getting out of Lady Dimitrescu's castle is.. a pain in the butt. You've got murderous vampires, you've got hallways that all look the same, decrepit floors that also want to kill you because life sucks. It's a lot. Luckily, the puzzles don't have to be an added frustration for those that may be looking for some help so that they can carry on with the (amazing) story.

For this particular puzzle, you'll find it on the second floor of the castle, an area you will be annoyingly familiar with during your time in Village. The area you need to be in is called the Hall of Ablution, a place that you'll find once crossing the courtyard after exiting the main hall. There is a door to the right of the courtyard, make it up towards that and you'll find a set of stairs. Follow the stairs up, go down the hallway and enter the third door on your left.

At first, this puzzle confused the heck out of me, so if you're lost: don't worry, you're not alone. The good news is that it's not as complicated as it actually looks. The better news is that we're here to walk you through it.

When entering the Ablution area, you will immediately see four statues and an ominous puddle of blood in the middle (vampires, remember?). The statues can be rotated from left to right in order to pivot them to where they need to be facing in order to solve this particular puzzle. Let's get started:

Before touching any of the statues, go to directly across from where you entered into this room until you are in front of a bronze plaque. The message reads, "Women are blind to male advances, but the poor shall take their chances, to give their lords their bounty sown, so that soon the wine may flow."

Don't you just hate riddles? Luckily, this is pretty cut and dry when you actually see each individual statue:

Statue #1 Man Riding A Horse

Statue #2 Beggars

Statue #3 Wine Glass Woman (Yeah, girl, get it)

Statue #4 Wine Bottle Woman (She knows what's up)

As per the riddle, you're going to have the women with the wine facing one another with the man riding a horse facing the statue with the woman directly in front of him. Finally, you're going to move the statue with the beggars and make it so it is facing directly at the statue with the man riding a horse and voila! You've solved the puzzle. You'll know you got it right when the pool begins to drain down and then a new passageway will open up to you. Take to the stairs and then get ready to fight for your life.

How To Solve Resident Evil Village Bell Puzzle | Guide

Posted: 07 May 2021 02:15 PM PDT

Resident Evil Village is here and it wouldn't be a new game in the iconic Capcom horror franchise if there weren't a few puzzles to power through. For those attempting to solve the bell puzzle in Castle Dimitrescu, there are a few things you need to know. To help, here is our Resident Evil Village bell puzzle in the Atelier room guide.

Resident Evil Village Bell Puzzle, How To Solve

This particular puzzle is in the Atelier you will come across in Lady Dimitrescu's massive castle. This will require you to find five hidden bells, a task that you'll see when you find a half-written note on the painting atop an easel in the Atelier room. The note will advise Ethan Winters (poor guy) to ring all five bells at once. I know how that sounds, daunting right? Don't worry, you don't actually have to ring them all at the same time, that would be impossible. Instead, you'll hit each bell and this will cause the torch on the top of each to light up. You can trigger the torch at the top being lit up by either hitting it with a melee attack or with a bullet from your preferred gun. It's pretty simple, you just have to actually find the bells first. That's where we come in.

You'll start your journey in the Atelier room, which you'll find adjacent to the Hall of Joy in the castle. You'll run by this area a few times, so you can't miss it. You'll know you're in the right spot because this is where the easel is found, which kickstarts the entire puzzle mission to begin with.

First bell

The first bell is very easy to spot. Directly across from where you entered into this room, you'll see a male bust. Next to it, you'll see the first bell. I recommend hitting it with your knife to conserve some ammo, but there is ammo in the cabinet in the room if you feel shoot-happy.

Second bell

The second bell will be found on that same side where you will spot a space where there should be a painting. In this cap, there are cogs that you'll see that will move. Every few moments, the second bell will be seen. This one, you'll want to shoot (and shoot quickly).

Third bell

If you opted into getting the ammo in the cabinet (you'll need to melee it to access the coveted restock inside), you'll see another bell in front of another painting. This painting has a gold frame, you can't miss it. Hit that bell to trigger the torch, and then it's time to do a little more exploring.

Fourth bell

The nearby stairs are your next destination. Go up and go towards the window on the opposite side. If you look outwards, you'll see the fourth bell. You can shoot it through the window, so make sure you have ammo to spare.

Final bell

And we're almost done! See? Not so hard! In this same area, you'll note a gorgeous chandelier. You can't melee this either, but if you shoot it? You'll make it move and when that happens, you'll note the final hidden bell. Shoot that to trigger the torch and you'll immediately hear a door opening inside yet another painting, this time of Lady D herself. Once this passageway is open, you're done! Try not to die.

Happy hunting!

Yakuza Combat Will Be Turn-Based Going Forward

Posted: 07 May 2021 11:59 AM PDT

Yakuza: Like A Dragon

Following the reveal of Lost Judgment, an interview with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio director Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Kazuki Hosokawa has surfaced on IGN. Lost Judgment brings Ryu Ga Gotoku back to its action-combat roots, leaving many fans to wonder if that meant the Yakuza series would also return to that style following last year's Yakuza: Like a Dragon.

Speaking to IGN, Nagoshi and Hosokawa confirmed that the Judgment series will carry on the studio's action style of gameplay, while Yakuza will continue to evolve as a turn-based RPG. "The Yakuza series has been transformed into a turn-based RPG," they told IGN. "On the other hand, over the years, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has accumulated resources and know-how of making flashy and exhilarating action games that are effortless to enjoy. We decided that we should let our signature action gameplay live on through Lost Judgment."

Yakuza: Like A Dragon Yakuza: Like a Dragon's turn-based combat

Romain Mahut of GameBlog was in attendance at a virtual "Judgment Day" event that followed the Lost Judgment reveal and asked if the studio considered using turn-based combat similar to that of Yakuza: Like a Dragon for Lost Judgment. "For Yakuza: Like a Dragon, we changed the game's battle system from action into a turn-based RPG," Nagoshi said in response. "This was a huge challenge for us, but it was well-received, which we were thrilled to hear. We did discuss the possibility of developing that battle system further for our next title, and while we may pursue the turn-based system even outside the Yakuza series, the conclusion we ended up at was that because this is a different series, the best approach would be to keep them separate and refine what makes each series great. It's my hope that our customers feel the same way we do. That's why we chose 'action' as an important keyword for the Judgment series.

Nagoshi also said on the Judgment Day video he believes that, when possible, a simultaneous global launch is "the right way to go" and that the team has "determined to make every effort to support this for all [its] games moving forward." This is significant as the Yakuza series has a long tradition of Western versions releasing years after the Japanese version. Following the success of Yakuza 0 in the West, the release windows have narrowed, but Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which debuted last year, still had a 10-month gap between the Japanese and worldwide releases.

Lost Judgment Lost Judgment's action-oriented combat

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, while Lost Judgment comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 24. For more on what we thought about Yakuza: Like a Dragon, check out our review here. Capcom Celebrates Resident Evil Village’s Launch By Drawing A Giant Hillside Lycan

Posted: 07 May 2021 11:40 AM PDT

Resident Evil Village begins terrifying fans today, and if you're a UK resident living around the Somerset area, you may have noticed or heard of a giant lycan drawn into a nearby hillside that has puzzled residents for the past week. Nope, it's not the work of any supernatural phenomena or mischievous prankers. Capcom took it upon themselves to promote Village's arrival by creating a unique rendition of one of its deadliest enemies.

The lycan chalk installation measures 58m high and over 100m long. Capcom doesn't provide an exact location, but it's nestled somewhere among grassy hills between the villages of Somerset and Blackdown Hills. For those unaware, the English countryside has historically been littered with similar hillside art and this latest addition appeared a week ago before Capcom raised its hand to claim responsibility (I can only assume the game's title was added last). According to the publisher, the massive beast took less than 24 hours to create. Best of all, it can even light up, creating quite the nighttime spectacle.

"To celebrate the launch of the latest installment, Resident Evil Village, we're thrilled to have brought one of the new, most iconic and fearsome enemies players will encounter within the game to life in a whole new way." says Village's producer, Tsuyoshi Kanda.

I've heard of far more disastrous ways of creatively promoting a big game, so kudos to Capcom for pulling off a cool feat that also feels appropriate for Village. There's no word on how long the lycan will stick around, so it's probably a good idea to swing by it if you're a Resident Evil fan living near the area. The rest of us will have to settle for just playing Resident Evil Village, which impressed us with its fantastic balance of action and horror. Check out our full review here

For more on Resident Evil Village, Capcom recently gave us more insight into Chris Redfield's seemingly darker turn that you can read all about here. If you want another, more unique form of artistic expression, someone turned Lady Dimitrescu into a terrifying version of Thomas the Tank Engine.

Lost Judgment Coming This Fall From Yakuza Studio

Posted: 07 May 2021 11:12 AM PDT

Lost Judgment

Sega and Yakuza developer Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio have announced a sequel to the 2018 Yakuza spin-off game Judgment. Lost Judgment continues the story of private detective Takayuki Yagami, the protagonist of the first game, as he takes on new cases in the action-packed legal thriller. The announcement comes shortly after the original Judgment arrived on new-gen consoles and Stadia after initially debuting exclusively on PlayStation 4. Unlike the original's trajectory, Lost Judgment will debut across both PlayStation and Xbox consoles in a simultaneous worldwide release this September.

Lost Judgment

In Lost Judgment, players partake in detective sleuthing and action combat across a noir-style story about a detective who takes the law into his own hands when the justice system fails. Yagami is joined by his partner and ex-yakuza Masaharu Kaito as the duo investigates a seemingly uncrackable case. Soon, the case leads to a conspiracy-laden tale that reveals just how broken the law system is. While the Yakuza series recently shifted to turn-based combat with Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Lost Judgment preserves the traditional Ryu Ga Gotoku-style of action combat featured in earlier games. Yagami has access to various fighting stances, including the new Snake style which allows him to deflect attacks and use enemies' energy against them. Players will travel between Yokohama and Kamurocho as they investigate the case.

You can see the announcement trailer below.

Click here to watch embedded media

Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio released Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the eighth mainline entry in the Yakuza series, last year. That game replaced longtime Yakuza protagonist Kazuma Kiryu with the more in-your-face Ichiban Kasuga. Judgment features a noir-style narrative, giving it a decidedly different feel than the traditional, mainline Yakuza series. If you're a fan of the sillier side of things, don't worry, as Lost Judgment seems to have plenty of excuses for goofiness built in as Yagami infiltrates a high school in Yokohama where he meets students and participates in quests involving everything from robotics to dancing.

Lost Judgment comes to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 24. To learn what we thought of the first Judgment game, check out our review here. For our review on the most recent Yakuza game, Like a Dragon, head here.

Magic: The Gathering Goes Dungeons & Dragons In July

Posted: 07 May 2021 10:35 AM PDT

This July, Dungeons & Dragons is coming to Magic: The Gathering in force with the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set. While certainly these two massive properties have come together before, this is the first time an entire full-scale Magic: The Gathering set experience will take place within Forgotten Realms.

In other words, this is a super big deal that will have players tapping into tons of iconic Dungeons & Dragons fare when it hits everywhere on July 23. However, if you're like me, most of your time spent playing Magic: The Gathering these days takes place on MTG Arena, where you can start playing with Adventures in the Forgotten Realms on July 8! I don't know about you, but I'm going to celebrate with beholders and barbeque this summer...

As part of a ton of other Magic: The Gathering related items explored in a DailyMTG article, players got their first taste of exactly what D&D looks like with this set. There are basic lands with flavor text! Whoa! As cool as that is, they're still just lands. So let's look at a few cards, including an awesome new card frame treatment influenced by the D&D Monster Manuals of legend.

Portable Holes are always handy! While it's really just the kind of white enchantment removal spell (except it's an artifact!) that you expect to see in any set these days, it's packed with flavor. I expect to see a lot of that as set reveals start hitting next month. Other cards like Power Word Kill are flavorful both from a D&D context standpoint and quite functional within the MTG universe, which is interesting. And of course, there's the Baleful Beholder. We probably won't get the card text on this one for a while, but you can probably assume that it's awesome because it's a freaking beholder. And it shows off a sweet new card frame that's sure to appear on some other well-known D&D monsters!

For those that have played either game over the years, this pairing seems like it was just waiting to happen. What do you think about Magic: The Gathering going all in with a Dungeons & Dragons set? Let us know in the comments!

Bungie Reveals Adorable Destiny 2 Fallen Baby Plushie After Season of the Splicer Fanfare

Posted: 07 May 2021 10:10 AM PDT

Guardians everywhere, including myself, lost their collective minds over the adorableness that is baby Fallen that were spotted in the Destiny 2: Season of the Splicer trailer. Fans of the space shooter have begged for plushie versions of it in every single Destiny 2 group and Discord I'm in, and now our dreams are coming true! That's right! You can have your own cute little baby Fallen with the adorable plushie just revealed from Bungie.

It's not available quite yet, but Bungie did reveal the precious little bundle of pure happiness over on the official studio's storefront. The size comes in at a widdle 10 inches with Numskull Designs. We don't have a price or an ETA at this time, but it is coming sometime this year. Interested? You can add your email to the waiting list right here

The baby Fallen were first shown off during the Season of the Splicer reveal, and it didn't take long before pretty much everyone and their mothers fell in love. It took exactly 10 minutes after the reveal before fanart started pouring in, so Bungie definitely knew what it was doing when it made a plush version of this ball of pure joy that we all need in our lives.

The upcoming season of Destiny 2 kicks off soon. To catch up on all of the newness that is on the way, you can learn more at our dedicated game hub right here. You can also score a free emblem that was hidden within the trailer with the code found here.

Super Replay Is Back With Bloodborne

In part nine of the Bloodborne Super Replay, we're headed to The Old Hunters. A fantastic and incredibly challenging addon to the original game, The Old Hunters features extremely dangerous enemies and bosses. Check out our review here and join us today at 2 PM CT!

Are you ready for a chilling thrill ride through FromSoftware's masterpiece? Bloodborne is a dark horror action/RPG that tasks the player with navigating through haunted streets full of werewolves and shuffling, shambling ghouls – and that's just the first hour. Bloodborne showcases immaculate environments dripping with atmosphere, creative and cruel monster designs, and terrors ripped from the great beyond. And we're going to play through it! Super Replay, the legendary Game Informer series that pairs pro players with even more professional commentary, is back.

Click here to watch embedded media

As the flagship revival title, Bloodborne is going to be live and uncut every Friday at 2 PM CST. So won't you come join us for a blood-tinged brawl? How many times will I choke during boss fights? Will I even remember how to use the parry guns? (Probably not).

But I have faith that together, we will make it through, even if that includes farming up a mess of blood vials to get past a grotesque pig and other creatures of the night. This is a raw, organic playthrough at its finest, as I haven't really touched the game since my second playthrough of The Old Hunters shortly after it launched. In short, it's the perfect way to bring all the fun and intensity of the Super Replay directly into your eyeballs, shot live and beamed into reality via livestream.

"Bloodborne is a blood-drenched horror gem that has only the faintest of cracks in its façade. Bloodborne succeeds through sparse storytelling, lush atmospheres (conjuring up notions of the best of Lovecraft's work), and tight combat that forces you to be aggressive," I said in my Game Informer review. "While this new IP doesn't stray far from the established Souls franchise, it is a magical, wondrous work that admirably instills both terror and triumph in those brave enough to delve into it."

Checkout the entire Replay series here and get started with the Bloodborne run in epic fashion here.

Do you like Super Replay? Are you glad to see it back? What other games would you like to see featured in the future? Let us know in the comments!

Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier Closed Beta Begins In June

Posted: 07 May 2021 08:45 AM PDT

In February, Square Enix announced two mobile games set in the Final Fantasy VII universe: Ever Crisis and The First Soldier. The latter of those is a battle royale game that turned heads for being, well, a Final Fantasy VII battle royale game. If you're unsure of whether or not this intriguing multiplayer experiment is for you, Square announced during a recent livestream that it's holding a closed beta for the game this June.

The beta begins June 1 and concludes June 7. It'll be available for both iOS and Android and, since it's closed, you'll need to register to participate, which you can do at the game's official website. Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier pits players in a giant battle to be the last Soldier standing. You can choose between three classes, Warrior, Monk, and Sorcerer, to take on other players using melee and magic attacks as well as traditional summons (Espers in this case). You can check out the original announcement trailer below to see the game in action.

Android users have until May 28 to sign up for the beta. Despite the announcement, we still don't have an exact release date for The First Soldier other than its "2021" launch window. The same goes for Ever Crisis, the single-player mobile title that spans the entire Final Fantasy VII saga. You can read more details about that game here

Of course, as a Final Fantasy VII fan, you likely want to hear more about Part 2 of Remake as well as the upcoming expansion, Intergrade. You're in luck; the same livestream shed new light on the development of Remake's next chapter as well as debuted a new trailer for Intergrade. You can check out that news here.

Is your curiosity about Final Fantasy VII The First Soldier high enough to give the closed beta a shot? Let us know in the comments.

[UPDATE] Marvel Strike Force Back Online After Entire Evening Of Emergency Maintenance

Posted: 07 May 2021 08:20 AM PDT

Marvel Strike Force

Update: As of May 6 at 11:32 p.m. Pacific / May 7 at 2:32 a.m. Eastern, Marvel Strike Force is back online. The servers were rolled back to a pre-server-reset state, removing all the added resources players mistakenly received, plus any progress that players made in the game within the 40 minutes leading up to the downtime. In addition, the compensation that seemingly caused the problems has been removed temporarily. Developer Boundless Entertainment delivered the following in-game message to players shortly after the servers came back online:

"We recently experienced unexpected technical difficulties due to an erroneous inbox message and had to undergo emergency maintenance. In order to correct the issue, we reverted the game back to a timed backup taken before the issue occurred. This means that all progress made between approximately 4:50PM (PDT) and 5:30PM (PDT) on May 6 has been lost. We understand that this is a huge inconvenience and apologize for the lost progression. We'll be sending compensation for this in the near future.

Players who made purchases during this time will be sent all purchased good. However, it will take some time and players should expect to gradually receive the purchased content, as well as additional compensation, over the next few days.

We apologize for the inconvenience."

Original Story – May 6 at 10:50 p.m. Central

Marvel Strike Force is currently down following a massive glitch during today's server reset. The technical issue occurred as players attempted to access compensation sent by developer Boundless Entertainment to apologize for past technical glitches. Players were unable to claim the rewards from the messages delivered to their inboxes, but much to their surprise, the messages had other effects. While opening the messages and hitting the "claim" button was fruitless for the intended rewards, which included several pieces of Gear and Orb Fragments, observant players noticed millions upon millions in Gold deposited into their account.

The glitch occurred as the servers reset at 5 p.m. Pacific / 8 p.m. Eastern. During that time, loading times were increased, players struggled to get into games, and, as mentioned above, those who tried to claim the compensation for prior technical glitches were unable to do so but did receive millions in unintended Gold. Less than 30 minutes later, around 5:28 p.m. Pacific / 8:28 p.m. Eastern, Boundless Entertainment took the servers down for emergency maintenance. Despite the in-game messaging calling it "scheduled maintenance," posts by the game's community managers on the official Marvel Strike Force Discord channel say otherwise.

The message players are currently greeted with if they try to play Marvel Strike Force

"We are taking the game down for emergency maintenance," CM_Zeeks said in a Discord announcement at the time that the servers went down. "We will let you know once we have further updates."

The game's servers have continued to be offline all evening, with community manager Cerebro updating players at 7:10 p.m. Pacific / 10:10 p.m. Eastern on that same Discord channel. "Update: the dev team is working on the issue that required emergency maintenance and server downtime is expected for the next few hours," he said in the post. "We will continue to keep you updated as new developments occur."

Technical problems have been common in Marvel Strike Force over the course of its life, but lately, the game has been plagued by them. As mentioned above, this glitch occurred when players attempted to receive compensation the developer was delivering for other technical problems that occurred in the recent past, but the community's patience seems to be wearing thin lately. The entire Marvel Strike Force subreddit is currently flooded with topics about the recent state of the game. On top of these recent and ongoing problems, other issues surrounding an inability to claim Raid Milestones after the season expires, Arena ranking issues, problems with offers for characters like Silver Surfer being exploitable by some players, and even a recurring problem with the monthly Strike Pass have happened in just the last month and a half.

I had about 7 million Gold in my account before this glitch happened.

Marvel Strike Force is still down for emergency maintenance as of this writing. This issue comes 24 hours prior to the start of one of its most anticipated events in a long time, as players are about to be given the opportunity to earn Kestrel, the first all-original character created for Marvel Strike Force by Boundless Entertainment in collaboration with Marvel. Kestrel has already proven to be one of the most powerful characters in the game, and while the community's enthusiasm may be hindered by this string of events, you can learn more about her here.

Mass Effect Fans Can Get A Limited-Edition Silver Variant Of The Sold-Out Normandy SR-1 Replica

Posted: 07 May 2021 08:06 AM PDT

With the Mass Effect Legendary Edition just seven days away, BioWare isn't done revealing different ways returning fans can celebrate boarding the Normandy once more. How about with an actual Normandy? Last year, there was a sleek 14" Alliance Normandy SR-1 replica that was available, but it quickly sold out. Now there is a limited-edition silver variant, but it's going soon because there are only 250 available!

BioWare took to Twitter to reveal the latest replica in tandem with Dark Horse Comics. Dark Horse has offered a wide variety of Mass Effect memorabilia through the years, and this silver variant looks stunning! I purchased the normal version when it first came out and it was absolutely gorgeous! I may or may not have also purchased this one too. Maybe.

The latest variant is available for the same price as its previous counterpart: $249.99. There are payment options available for those that would like to not take a bigger hit to the wallet, set up for $75 a month leading up to its ship date.

"Dark Horse Direct and BioWare present the release of an exclusive silver variant of Mass Effect's legendary Normandy SR-1," Dark Horse tells us. "Keep your model rack as stocked as Shepard's with this 14" long, 5.6" wide all silver prototype starship, perched upon a crater-pocked moon terrain base."

It's crafted using polyresin with the expert detailing made by Gentle Giant Studios. It's limited to just 250 units though, so if you want one? You're going to want to jump on this deal fast. You can pre-order yours right here. You can another version in my post below, because I can't help but share that Normandy love for the best damn ship in the galaxy, even if the one pictured below is for the SR-2 from the second game:

Ahead of its May 14 launch, BioWare is also giving away a ton of free content, so don't miss out! You can look at what's up for grabs right here. Interested in learning more about Mass Effect Legendary Edition? Check out our exclusive game hub too. Mass Effect Legendary Edition Will Let You Use Original Mako Controls For Those Who Like To Hurt

Posted: 07 May 2021 06:50 AM PDT

Do you like pain? Then we've got the vehicle for you. While some loved the original Mako controls in the trilogy, it's fair to say that those people are unabashedly wrong. Yes, I'm mostly kidding, but we do have good news for those tied to the vanilla handling of the notorious vehicle. The Mass Effect Legendary Edition will offer the original controls as an option for those that don't want to experience the much smoother handling implemented with the remaster.

"For those people out there who do like pain, we've left the option to leave it back kind of closer to the original controls as well if you want," environment director Kevin Meek said to PC Gamer. "Playing the Mako today versus playing the Mako back in the original, especially on PC, it's like night and day," Meek added. "I don't want to thrash my keyboard and mouse after every encounter with the thresher maw or trying to climb a mountain."

When driving the Mako in the first game, a feeling of chaos is definitely felt. For some, that chaos was good. For others, it was a source of frustration that usually ended with the vehicle being topside. Crash-landing on various worlds only to spin out of control into a pool of lava isn't the standard definition of fun, but that doesn't take away from the other in-air moments that felt nothing short of exhilarating. So what's changed?

The original Mako design made the vehicle move at almost a snail's pace. While a speed variety was there, it varied between "Oh my GOD, drive faster" to "TOO FAST, TOO FAST." With the Legendary Edition, BioWare felt it was important to make small changes to how the vehicle operates, making it slightly more realistic in terms of a solid driving experience.

If you missed our exclusive coverage about the Mako back in February, director Mac Walters  walked us through the various Mako changes. "The footprints of every level are quite large, but they're also somewhat sparse," director Mac Walters explains to us when talking about the environmental changes that Mako lovers can explore. "Part of that was the beauty of it – going out and finding these locations that had that sort of stark beauty to them. But at the same time, you couldn't also help but feel like they could be a little bit more fleshed out."

You can learn more about what's new in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition with our dedicated game hub here, including over 20 interviews for an exclusive look inside the highly anticipated remaster.

Tetsuya Nomura Offers Small Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 Update, "Different Atmosphere"

During the most recent livestream event for Final Fantasy, we received a brand new trailer for Intergrade that shows off new fights, more new faces, and the return of Fort Candor. However, we also got a small glimpse into Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2 from director Tetsuya Nomura and it looks like the team might be prepping for a full reveal sooner than we thought.

It was during the tail-end of the live stream that Nomura mentioned wanting to announce "something" about the second part of the remake but was advised to wait due to that not being approved by the other departments at the studio. But that doesn't mean we were left with nothing. Nomura did mention that development on the second part is going very well and gave a small teaser that Cloud can be seen walking through a "huge nature environment." He also added that Part 2 will have a very different atmosphere from what we saw in the Remake's first half, giving fans a tiny glimmer of excitement to cling to before we learn more.

While it's not the trailer everyone was hoping for (hi, I'm everyone), it is at least a small glimpse into what's next. For the most part, Final Fantasy VII Remake stayed true to the initial vision we all fell in love with, though that started to shift in a different direction towards the first part's conclusion. With the ending showing off a blast from Crisis Core past, what's next could be anyone's guess as far as creative takes goes, but one thing is for sure: we're excited to learn more.

For now, we do have Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade to look forward to. You can learn more all about Yuffie and her friends and what they bring to the table, including new Summons, new boss battles, and so much more, right here with our dedicated game hub

New Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade Trailer Shows Off Fort Condor, Ramuh Summon, And More

Posted: 07 May 2021 06:16 AM PDT

We've got a new Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade trailer to dive into and it shows off more of Ramuh's Summon, Fort Condor, a return from Dirge, and so much more. This is also the final Intergrade trailer before the game launches on June 10.

The trailer opens up with Cloud and the usual gang as they fight once more in an epic battle of survival, only to once more run into an Arbiter of Fate. But the trailer is much more than just the opening sequence, it shows off the stunning graphical enhancements made for PS5 with certain animations looking much smoother than before. Sephiroth makes yet another appearance, once more beseeching Cloud to aid him to "defy destiny."

Yuffie and the new arrivals come into the action when they realize that Plate 7 is about to drop, so they gear up and get ready to fight to help make sure that doesn't happen. But not before playing a round of Fort Condor, of course. Fort Condor is a strategic minigame that is a highly beloved facet of the Final Fantasy-verse, so to see it back is a neat little nod as to how the Remake continues to bring back what we love the most.

Scarlett, the director of advanced weaponry, also makes another appearance, in addition to more fights against Shinra tech. The new boss fights look awesome and having Yuffie and the gang in the Remake adds a little something special for those that have already played through the remake on last-gen consoles.

Tetsuya Nomura also revealed during a live stream event where the trailer first made its debut that Square Enix will have more to share about Final Fantasy VII Part 2 soon, but promises that development is going well and that it will have a very different atmosphere from what players experienced with the first part.

Care to place a bet on when we'll get our first look at the Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2? Excited about Intergrade and getting your hands on the Fort Condor once more?
